Broncos Knock Off Steelers, 31-19

September 9th, 2012 - 9:50pm by Tyler Everett

After trailing 19-14 one minute into the fourth quarter, the Broncos stormed back with 17 unanswered points to open the season with a 31-19 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Facing a five-point deficit after a Pittsburgh touchdown, Manning marched the Broncos 80 yards down the field, then added a two-point conversion to take a 22-19 lead.

Denver’s D forced a three-and-out on the next Pittsburgh possession, and the Broncos then moved down the field to set up a 26-yard field goal by Matt Prater that made it 25-19.

The Broncos defense delivered the knockout punch on the following series when cornerback Tracy Porter jumped a route on the sideline and sped 43 yards into the end zone for a 31-19 lead that the Steelers were never able to threaten.

Neither team was able to produce much offense in the opening quarter, but both Ben Roethlisberger of the Steelers and Peyton Manning of the Broncos came alive in a back-and-forth battle that the Steelers led 10-7 at halftime and the Broncos led 14-13 going into the fourth quarter.

  2. strandoftds82 says:

  3. BuddhaBroncos says:

yea that is what I wanna know: what is the injury report.

  4. strandoftds82 says:

I`m curious about Ty Warren. I hope he`s fine.

  5. singer says:

ty warren is the only injury i believe. was an elbow injury in the 1st quarter. did not return

  6. TheCladyBunch says:

All in all a great win, altho this game was very odd. This bodes well for the Broncos if they can figure out a few kinks and gel a bit more. We couldnt stop them on third down and shot ourselves in the foot a few times, and couldnt get in rythem also. Yet we won , and probably could have won by 17 or more. What a surgeon Peyton was, unbelievable. #Eat Greedy

  7. tlcat06 says:

    Thanks, DB!

  8. singer says:

yes Harris definitely went back in

  9. strandoftds82 says:

I`m looking forward to seeing the contest numbers tomorrow.

  10. DaddyBronc says:

On the challenge by Pit when Deck fumbled into the endzone:

Help me out, I don’t get it. Steelers never picked up the ball. The call was down at the 1 yard line. What was being challenged? Why did it make a difference to the Steelers?

  11. tlcat06 says:

Anybody stick around and hear Peyton thank all his receivers for the 400th touchdown pass? Unbelievable character this guy has.

  12. singer says:

I don’t believe WE had a single 3 and out tonight. can anyone verify?

  13. tlcat06 says:

DB, if he had fumbled out of the end zone and it was a fumble, I think the Steelers would’ve gotten the ball. That’s one of those weird rules…. Anyone know? It’d act like a touchback? I don’t know for sure…

  14. 3rdGeneration says:

    Payton has a huge forehead.

  15. singer says:

the Ball was fumbld through the endzone. would have been a touchback db

  16. socalbigbroncofan says:

Just left the game flying back tomorrow. Such a good game for my family and i. My sons first football game. All of us wore orange manning jerseys. Go Broncos

  17. strandoftds82 says:

I`ll tell you what. I was irritated the whole stinking game. Not only did we play against the Steelers, but we also played against the refs as well. Every call went the Steelers way. There ruining the games!!

  18. strandoftds82 says:

    Congrats Socal!!

  19. tlcat06 says:

The refs were atrocious and sometimes I say at and it’s not really true, but Goodell is going to have to get that fixed. The ones on Wednesday were great, but the ones for our game… It was awful. Like the first down they gave the steelers when Ben didn’t even get close to the first down??? Fox didn’t challenge or didn’t have enough time to, but I was furious!!! and when Peyton got 12 on the field and we had to punt….

  20. 3rdGeneration says:

Socal…great to hear! Wish I was there too. Were there a lot of Steeler fans? I swear they’re like a parasite. I’ve never been to a game where there is more opposing fans as the damn Steelers. I could hear their stupid “HEEEEATH” through the TV.

  21. tnalen66 says:

fox should of challenge the 12th man on the field & the 4th down

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

That was AWESOME!!! DMT is such a STUD!!! so is Miller but everyone knows that! DB did you get to watch the game?

  23. strandoftds82 says:

Well, I`m off to bed. Big day tomorrow. Laters!!

  24. strandoftds82 says:

Oh, now Turtle shows up. Hello Turtle. Talk to ya tomorrow bro.

  25. Bronco_Turtle says:

Didn’t OSS win the prediction contest last season?!? cause he won again tonight…

  26. DaddyBronc says:

That is a weird rule – I know they had to put some of those in place to eliminate intention forward fumbles but I thought the opposing teem had to down it in the endzone.

  27. tnalen66 says:

fox should of challenged the 12th man on the field & the 4th down play.

  28. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Laters Strandsky!!!

It’s gonna be a great week!

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

Cat the 12 man call wouldve only given us another shot for a 1st. Wouldnt have been a first down. Just 3rd and 7 instead of 3rd and 12.

What annoyed me was how many times Miller was held and no flags.

  30. Bronco_Turtle says:

DB… if it goes out of bounds in through the end zone then it’s an automatic touchback/turnover

  31. tlcat06 says:

Oh no, I meant that AB, sorry I said it wrong. Thanks

  32. singer says:

not if it rolls into then out of the endzone.

  33. tlcat06 says:

Miller was held the whole game.

  34. Bronco_Turtle says:

Only if it goes out of bounds singer… it’s still live if it’s in play

  35. Bronco_Turtle says:

Miller still looked awesome! so did Wolfe, and Mays… Bronco Football makes me so Happy! silly right?

  36. DaddyBronc says:

    Hey Turtle!

Yes I watched the whole game less a few minutes here and there.

I just rewatched the rerun of DMT taking off. His after burners when he sees open green are electrifying. I’m gonna go watch that again.

  37. singer says:

sure gonna be interesting to hear what the talking heads on the nfl network are gonna be saying.

  38. Bronco_Turtle says:

He’s sooo much fun to watch in the open field… and really to think about the last three WR products coming out of GT is kind of mind boggling!!! Megatron, Optimus and now Hill from the Jets! all three match up nightmares!

  39. singer says:

Thats what i was trying to say turtle. if the ball is fumbled across the plane of the endzone and go’s out of the endzone w/out a recovery it is a turnover and a touchback

  40. tnalen66 says:

yes touch back. it happened to the Saints to day. I HATE that rule

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

Lol ok cat. And your right that wasnt a 1st down by Big Ben.

Man Moore annoyed me. He dropped two or three possible INTs and then that personal foul against him. I doubt a fine will be handed out but it was a helmet to helmet hit which is illegal. Just wasnt on purpose which is why I doubt the fine.

Steelers quick passes were a bad surprise. Not something theyve done over the last few years and wasnt expecting that. Neither was our D as it tore them apart ad it completely took away from our pass rush. As we saw at the end when Big Ben has to hold onto the ball we can get the sack pretty easily. Also didnt help during the game that he is hard to bring down and kept escaping the sack. Our quick pass D needs work as the Falcons Patriots and Saints will all exploit that. Not to mention our division foes.

  42. 3rdGeneration says:

I’m excited for our offense. Any team that can make them look like an average defense is pretty dang good.

  43. BuddhaBroncos says:

Yea that fumble out of the end on happened once b4 in recentish Denver history and was challenged and went the broncos way. If anyone remembers what I’m talking about they get a cookie of +2 orangeandblue.

  44. tnalen66 says:

the Offense should get the ball at the spot of the fumble.

  45. sndvl says:

The worst call in my opinion was the personal foul on Rahim. Sanders for Pitt was the one who led with the helmet…

  46. Bronco_Turtle says:

agreed sndvl… that was an awful call… Rahim did nothing wrong! and howdy by the way!

  47. tnalen66 says:

    the playoffs against the PAts

  48. BuddhaBroncos says:

    Endzone* darn autocorrect

  49. Bronco_Turtle says:

Moreno looked strong… but get the man some shoes that fit! he lost one in Pre-Season also!
