Broncos Knock Off Steelers, 31-19

September 9th, 2012 - 9:50pm by Tyler Everett

After trailing 19-14 one minute into the fourth quarter, the Broncos stormed back with 17 unanswered points to open the season with a 31-19 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Facing a five-point deficit after a Pittsburgh touchdown, Manning marched the Broncos 80 yards down the field, then added a two-point conversion to take a 22-19 lead.

Denver’s D forced a three-and-out on the next Pittsburgh possession, and the Broncos then moved down the field to set up a 26-yard field goal by Matt Prater that made it 25-19.

The Broncos defense delivered the knockout punch on the following series when cornerback Tracy Porter jumped a route on the sideline and sped 43 yards into the end zone for a 31-19 lead that the Steelers were never able to threaten.

Neither team was able to produce much offense in the opening quarter, but both Ben Roethlisberger of the Steelers and Peyton Manning of the Broncos came alive in a back-and-forth battle that the Steelers led 10-7 at halftime and the Broncos led 14-13 going into the fourth quarter.

My favorite moment was when Polamolu and Peyton were playing that mind game, we may have had to call a time out and get a delay of game, but watching Polamolu get so pissed because Peyton kept reading him was hilarious!

  2. strandoftds82 says:

At the same time Wolfe. LOL

  3. singer says:

We had 94 yards rushing against The Steelers…great njob oline and we held them to 76 yards rushing…great job d! And welcome to the big bad WOLFE!!!

  4. strandoftds82 says:

It`ll be interesting to see how the weekly blog contest went. I got pretty close.

  5. SWBronco says:

I also loved seeing DMT stiff arm Polamolu, that man’s got a pair to just say “I can stuff him.” Seeing that flipping arm tackle I was really worried, but DMT was just like “got ya” haha

  6. strandoftds82 says:

That looked like a Karate move. HaHa!!

  7. SWBronco says:

I was thinking the same thing strand. A little Judo or Jiujitsu right there

  8. singer says:

Polamalu left the field after the game w/out very much interaction w/ our team….hmmmmmm

  9. tnalen66 says:

    Bronco football is back!

  10. DaddyBronc says:

TP is shy – I wouldn’t make much of it.

  11. strandoftds82 says:

The Steelers feel defeated as they should. HaHa!! We defeated them! YES!!!!!!

  12. strandoftds82 says:

Troy is my most favorite football player who`s not a Bronco. He`s fun to watch. I`m also bias, because Troy went to USC and they are my college team.

  13. tlcat06 says:

SWBronco… Peyton was a freakin assassin! My favorite part too!! Polomalu was SOOOOOO mad! Peyton knows so much. It’s like he spent the last twenty months learning more than he knew before.

  14. DaddyBronc says:

Everyone should realize that we were only one play away by T. Porter – and the score could have just as easily have ended 26-22 / Pit.

  15. wolfedom says:

All should realize you don’t throw at our corners.

  16. raidrhadr says:

SW once we have audible terminology for all of our plays…Peyton doesn’t have to call a TO and we score a TD on that instead. That was just a taste of what to expect down the road.

    PFM!!!! Nuff said.

  17. SWBronco says:

    Cat it really does.
DB Trust me, we know, but it’s a team game obviously. I loved seeing Porter do to Ben almost exactly what he did to Peyton a few years back

  18. tnalen66 says:

our D backs had a few drops. GREAT GAME, GREAT WIN!

  19. strandoftds82 says:

This was such a bazaar game. Reothlisburger kept burning us on 3rd downs all game, and we still pulled out a win. Manning burned the Steelers D all night also, but that 3rd quarter was rather scary due to our D getting tired. I was concerned. Our Defense came thru still. All I can say is WOW!!

  20. DaddyBronc says:

I’d say that a 75 y.o. DC had Peyton guessing the entire first half – and he was assisted by the huddle which allowed the defense to breathe.

That 36 seconds when Manning cut loose and so did DMT seemed to be the foundation upon which Broncos went no huddle and then Manning quickly wore out the Steel D and started chopping them to pieces.

  21. wolfedom says:

Cat you’ll have braggin rights with the kiddos tomorrow.

  22. singer says:

How many sacks did we end up with?

  23. tnalen66 says:

Why is Jim Lenards our kick/punt returner?! slow & no moves

  24. raidrhadr says:

DaddyBronc…we should have played more aggresive at the end of the first half instead of a soft zone. Also Rahim Moore’s dumba$$ penalty cost us for sure. In my opinion there is more work to be done on the defensive side than anything. It’s just mental stuff ya know.

  25. strandoftds82 says:

Porter kept missing INT`s all night until the end he finally got one, and for a pick 6. He was coming close 3 other times.

  26. tnalen66 says:

    5 sacks

  27. DaddyBronc says:

    Wow!!!

  28. tlcat06 says:

Tracy Porter tried for that ALLL night and you better believe that Peyton is his biggest fan.

Wolfe I DO!!!!! I have the perfect orange and blue shirt to wear tomorrow too!!! I’m so happy.

  29. DaddyBronc says:

Hadr – agreed – we shouldn’t have been down at the half. I still don’t blame Moore for that penalty – in the end that receiver may get the fine.

  30. raidrhadr says:

Strand…if we had been aggressive like at the end of the game…worthlessburger would have been sacked like 7 times and we wouldn’t be having this conversation. We played alot of soft zone and not much man coverage like last year. This is a problem so far. Hopefully Del Rio fixes that. We have the talent at DB to cover…why not be aggressive up front.

  31. singer says:

Thanks tnalen. Wow i guess i don’t understand the negativity. we won against a very good team . they get paid to play also.

  32. strandoftds82 says:

    Hip-Hip-Hooray!!

  33. 7milehigh18 says:

Love It! Love It! really liking the addition of TP. helps so much to have two shutdown corners.

  34. wolfedom says:

We can all walk a little taller tomorrow, all except DB that is. Who else was it that predicted a loss in the game contest?

  35. DaddyBronc says:

We need a name for the Champ / Porter tandem.

Where the heck is OC and the rest of you creative folk???

  36. strandoftds82 says:

I do prefer man to man.

  37. tlcat06 says:

Singer, this wasn’t the Bills we played tonight. I think some people are forgetting that. We played the Steelers and beat them again. Ben was zippin passes left and right and we didn’t have an answer… Except for Peyton. So, we have nothing to feel bad about here. We have the five toughest games still and I’m proud of what we did here tonight.

  38. DaddyBronc says:

That’s alright wolf – I’m used to short – I can take it – my team won – I’ll still walk a little taller!!! LOL

  39. strandoftds82 says:

Porter anticipates when the QB is about to throw the ball. He has great football instincts.

  40. wolfedom says:

The number one defense and Peyton burned them. Our defense allows only 19. I’m very proud tonight.

  41. DaddyBronc says:

Couldn’t have said it better, Cat. We beat the Steelers. They will again be a playoff team. This is a significant win.

  42. singer says:

I am sure glad the refs didnt end up determining the outcome of the game. That 4th down conversion was horrible. The d stopped em on that one. But i gotta give BB credit he made plays and we eventually stopped em. And for the most part we came out of the game healthy.

  43. strandoftds82 says:

I`m only 5’6″. I guess I can take a tall pill before I go to bed. LOL

  44. 3rdGeneration says:

I’m usually very critical of Mays, but I have to say I didn’t think he played that badly tonight….at least on 1st and 2nd down. On 3rd down our whole defense appeared to take a nap.

  45. 3rdGeneration says:

I don’t understand why Fox didn’t challenge the spot on that 4th down play.

  46. DaddyBronc says:

Ddi anyone notice if Harris went back in the game after his injury timeout??? I didn’t notice.

  47. strandoftds82 says:

These refs suck!!!!!!!!! Their flippen bias!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  48. singer says:

Prolly didnt think it would get overturned

  49. singer says:

    Yes Harris went back in

  50. strandoftds82 says:

Nah Daddy, I believe the pick 6 was a play or so later.
