Prior to taking the practice fields to start up Week Two of OTAs, the Broncos took to the golf course for a little team bonding on the greens.
The team was divided into foursomes for a nine-hole scramble that was followed by long-drive, putting and chipping contests.
“It’s something we would have done a year ago and something I’ve done in the past,” Head Coach John Fox said. “I think it’s a good team-building opportunity. We have a pretty good mix of who is playing with who. Guys have a chance to spend a bit of time with the offense if they’re on defense and vice versa, and guys in the building, whether it’s the equipment guys or the training staff – I call them the football grunts, all out there together. It’s good camaraderie.”
The foursome of Offensive Quality Control Coach Brian Callahan, cornerback Chris Harris, defensive tackle Mitch Unrein and fullback Chris Gronkowski took home the front nine victory, while guard Zane Beadles, punter Britton Colquitt, Strength and Conditioning Assistant Jason George and wide receiver Gerell Robinson won on the back nine.
Fox, who played with Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway and Broncos President Joe Ellis, said he didn’t post his strongest round.
“Not good,” he joked of his performance. “I haven’t found my game this year. I’m still looking for it.”
Fox wasn’t the only one to struggle on the course though, which is something he’s OK with if it means his players stick to their day jobs.
“What’s good is that we don’t have a great golfing football team,” Fox said. “We’re more focused on the football end of it. Too many times I’ve had some really good golfers and we haven’t been very good football teams. Hopefully they’ll keep their skill level to the football field.”
