Broncos Game-Winning Drive Earns Award

November 25th, 2011 - 4:55pm by Stuart Zaas

For the second straight week, and third time this season, the Broncos have earned the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week.

Denver’s 95-yard game-winning drive against the Jets was voted as the moment or play of the week that best represents determination and perseverance.

The Broncos won the award for Tim Tebow’s 56-yard touchdown pass late in Denver’s 17-10 victory over Kansas City and also for their for come-from-behind victory over Miami in Week 7.

With LLoyd and Gaffney gone…..we don’t have veteran leadership at the WR position….but Tebow has to play with what he’s got….Decker,Thomas,Willis, and Royal are a great core of WRs …IMO!!!

Response to Bay from awhile back: Doesn’t take a lot of faith – some Tebownite will always upstage me and keep me off the WOS. I still have 0 pts. I believe, but when Timmy starts completing – I’m gonna pick up the big pts. (Just givin’ the rest a head start – so it’s fair – LOL)

I’m still thinking that Tebow’s passing problems are at least half the issue of being in-sync with the receivers / ball spin / and timing. All issues that just take time to resolve.

It is interesting to me that in the game that Tebow threw for 300 yards – against Houston – the top receivers were Lloyd (111), Gaffney (90), Buckhalter (50). Veteran receivers that have worked with lefties before. The problem in my opinion is that the Broncos are inexperienced – primarily with each other.

One of these days it is gonna click (hopefully in a Chargers game.) and Tebow is gonna spank somebody with some numbers.

BTW – I like Abra just fine when he behaves himself.

  18. daddybronc says:

Hey BFE – drink safe my man!!! Good to see you faithfully on the blog!

Anybody read this? The whole team is sticking up for one another and Tim is sticking up for what Elway said about him. And by the way, the thing Elway said about him WANTING Tebow to be the guy but he can’t know for sure… I said that pretty much verbatim two or three weeks ago. And who better to remind Elway of himself than our generations comeback kid!? And I read another article where Elway says he has to wait for the off season to work on Tim’s mechanics so I really think it’s Tim’s job to lose! Just keep finding ways to win games…

Today is the deadline to place your SD game score prediction, midnight blog time, no picks on game day ever, no exception.

  22. baylinorcrush says:

    Building a reputation, haha:

For the second time this season Broncos rookie linebacker Von Miller has been fined by the NFL for a hit on an opposing quarterback.

Miller was fined $25,000 for a hit on Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez in the Broncos’ Nov. 17 win over New York in in Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Specifically Miller was cited for “roughing the passer” and striking an opposing quarterback in the chest area with his helmet.” Miller was also penalized as a repeat offender this season.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

Great news for all the Ortonites out here, well, the handful of them:

Our shopping spies tell us that Kyle Orton’s No. 8 jerseys are on sale for 75 percent off at the team store at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Doom about often unsung hero Bunkley:

“We haven’t had a guy like that, not since I’ve been here,” Dumervil said. “He’s been like a monster in there. You see a big guy dominating in there, dominating the centers, you see the job he did dominating an all-pro center like (the New York Jets’ Nick) Mangold last week. That’s a difference-maker.”

“He’s the guy we’ve been looking for,” Dumervil said. “You can have the pass rushers and the guys at corner, making interceptions, but if you’re going to be a good defense, you have to have that guy in the middle. He’s our guy in the middle.”

Once in a while Xanders pulls out a major coup in trading even so they are few and far between compared to flops, so job well done on this one X-man:

Bunkley is athletically gifted enough to have been the 14th pick of the 2006 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, just three spots after the Broncos selected quarterback Jay Cutler. But after a rough start to his rookie season, in which he was Dawkins’ teammate, Bunkley never rose to the expectations that came with being a first-round pick.

Philadelphia traded him to Cleveland in August for a fifth-round pick, but the Browns quickly nixed the trade after a medical examination. (Bunkley suffered nerve and ligament damage to his left elbow a season ago, but he maintains the injury didn’t require surgery and would not have been an issue had he played with the Browns.)

The Broncos stepped in and traded a conditional draft pick to the Eagles for Bunkley, who was inserted into the starting defensive line almost as soon as he got here.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

The lowdown on exactly what kind of turnaround our D is having:

    Category 2010 (rank), 2011 (rank)-10 games

    Points allowed per game 29.4 (32) 24.7 (23)
    Total yds. allowed per game 390.8 (32) 356.4 (17)
    Rush yds. allowed per game 154.6 (31) 114.1 (16)
    Sacks 23 (32) 27 (10)
    Interceptions 10 (T-30) 7 (24)

Still hurting on pass D though

    Pass yds. allowed per game 236.3 (25) 242.3 (22)

    And here comes Rivers, haha.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Even so the Chargers are not the team of yesteryear, and Rivers is a part of that he is still 9-2 as a starter against the Broncos, including a win already this year, and that figure would be 10-1 if not for a friendly call by referee Ed Hochuli in 2008.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

About the Orton vacant 53rd spot on the roster:

    Still no moves.

The Broncos have yet to make a move to fill the spot on the 53-man roster left vacant when Kyle Orton was waived Tuesday.

The team has the option to play Sunday’s game in San Diego with 52 players on the roster, as long as 45 are made active for game day. If the Broncos do not make a move by today, the team would have Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn as its only quarterbacks.

Rookie quarterback Adam Weber remains on the practice squad.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

    The Miller sack watch:

Miller leads all rookies with 9 1/2 sacks this season and is one of only two players in the NFL, along with Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen, with more than nine sacks, more than 30 tackles and at least three forced fumbles.

Jared Allen and Von Miller already in the same ballpark, wow.

Not looking forward to have Jared on Tebow next week…. but SD first.

  29. Applejack says:

Bay, what do you think was the reason for McGahee’s lack of productivity last week? Hamstring or were the jets able to shut him down?

    Thank you in advance.

  30. risky305 says:

The jets have a top 5 defense; we were fortunate to get any rushing yards on them, their DB’s allow them to stuff the run.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

I thought they should of sit him against the Jets since he definitely was not 100%, a hammie injury is always something you play defensively with, like you’re afraid to go all out to re-injure it, just hoping the 10 days off gets him 100% this week because the Chargers’ weakness is against the run up the middle over their center, exactly McGahee strength, Larsen could be a real big help in this game too.

  32. Applejack says:

    Thanks Risky and Bay.

I was surprised he played on Thursday also.

So, I know Ryan changed it up on the 20 yard TD run, but prior to that, had anything changed in the run defense? Why was Tebow able to run effectively during the earlier parts of that 95 drive?

  33. baylinorcrush says:

When you’re leading at the end of a game, it only makes sense that the D will play it not to give up the big play down the field, the dreaded prevent D, whether they went to a pure prevent D or not they allowed the front line to be softer in order to cover their back ends, and Tebow saw bigger holes and exploited them.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

Anyhow, think next game, like tomorrow, LOL, the Jets game is in the books, what do you see in SD?

  35. Applejack says:

Thanks, makes a lot of sense. My version of reviewing game films!

I think Fox ball theology says run first, run second, no turnovers. Control the clock, control the rhythm and avoid stupid penalties.

  36. Applejack says:

    Denver 20
    SD 13

  37. RabidOrange says:

Does anyone know when the game is for sure tomorrow? The front page says 2:15 on CBS, but there was a blog on Monday that said that kickoff got noved to 11:05 on FOX? Which is right? I don’t want to tune in at 2 and find the game over…

  38. RabidOrange says:

Whoa! Scratch that. Should have looked at the blog first. That was for the Vikings game. My bad… Semper Broncos!!

  39. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, I have a little news that will make Broncfalls feel better about his season record prediction of 12-4 which eliminated him from the proceedings, just realized on the other end of the spectrum fthoodfan is also eliminated having predicted 4-12 giving you company, LOL. Next up on the block after Sunday’s game will be either the 11-5 (7 bloggers) or 5-11 (3).

  40. Orange_Crusher says:

I wonder how many ortonites picked us to have an 8-8 or better season?

  41. baylinorcrush says:

    sndvl 10-6
    Carnage 10-6
Wiemin didn’t get in on it

  42. strandoftds says:

Rabid, the game is at 2:15. The week after has been changed from 2:00 to 11:00 MNT against the Vikes.

  43. strandoftds says:

It looks like BFE was alive and kicking last night. LOL

  44. Orange_Crusher says:

Bay, just out of curiosity, do you think abra is orangutan/glax? Also, do you think he might also be smiley and a couple other handles?

It seems like he always mentions “eggos” and something nasty about somebody’s “mom”. Anyhow, just wondering what you thought about it all, it’s disrupting and hard to read the blog when he’s posting…. He even said he was apple at one time last night but obviously apple is having a normal convo with you this am so it must not be glax?

He’s probably got a couple dozen personalities and Tweet accounts so he can tweet John Elway bad messages and act like he’s different people…..LOL

  45. Pakaloloman says:

24-20 Denver, Happy Turkey Day after Bronco Brothers, time to dredge the river ( VonDooom on you ), hey bay , if you gota chance to post points results thus far?, id b intrested in top ten winners and 5 worst bottom feeders, trying to get a better idea of whos on 1st ect.

  46. Orange_Crusher says:

The Ortonites could benifit from Tebow more than the Tebowites on the season predictions. What a shame… I would have picked 9-7 If I knew TT was the starter…..

Where is sndvl anyways?? I hope he’s not over at the KC blogs? Somebody needs to go over there and check on him……LOL just kddn sndvl!!!

  47. baylinorcrush says:

Yes, abraham is aka orangutan aka glasnax, and no the other guys were different last night, as soon as he is on I’m gone, but talked to Gray about his newest handle abraham and he will keep an eye on him, so far you can tell he knows all about that and has tried to do his darn best to remain civil but his nastyness bleeds through nonetheless, he just can’t help it, just like life is too short to drink cheap beers, life is too short to get into a conversation with guys like him, at least for me.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

I try to do that every week pakaloloman, look for the next overall standings Monday morning in the SD game predictions results. A quicky for now:

    Leader, oldsouthstander, 25 points

    Lanterne rouge, CarnageBronc, minus 6

  49. strandoftds says:

BFE will have a fit as soon as he realizes he was shooting the breeze with glax/orangutan. And yeah, a leppard can`t change his spots. Fruitcake!!

  50. OrangeTsunami says:

What’s up Bronco Contry!!! Spent the Holiday with mostly Jets and Steelers fans here out east.. Held my own, and told them not to surprised if either one of them saw us in the tournament, but clarified that I was only talking to the Steelers fans, since the Jets won’t make the playoffs… lol

    Broncos 27
    San Diego 24
