Don’t really like the idea of Mike Holmgren going to Oaktown… With the guy they have running the show from Green Bay(McKenzie), and Holmgren’s connection they might as well add the colors Green and Yellow!!!

    F Oaktown
    F Green Bay
    F Brett Favre

    Heres to Teo and Hunt…

  4. OTbroncos says:

I hope we don’t draft for need in the top half of the draft, as that’s what FA and the bottom half of the draft are for. I liked what I saw from Desmond Trufant. 6’0″ corner with a 4.38 40, and good coverage skills. I also like his NFL blood lines.

  5. OTbroncos says:

I can appreciate the ‘QB of the defense’ arguement, and I’m rooting for Manti to succeed in the NFL, but I just think unfortunately for him, all the distractions make Te’o undraftable. Elway traded away the biggest circus in NFL history, I’d be shocked of he goes out the next year to use his top draft pick to bring in a potentially bigger one..

  6. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT funny you say last because just last night Cat said the same thing to me. Lol one circus for another.

The biggest lie of the draft is that teams draft BPA. They dont. If you watch the draft teams draft a position of need. Granted it is the best player available but for said position. Especially in earlier rounds.

  7. OTbroncos says:

I was impressed with Margus Hunt as well. I’d be all over it in the 2nd.

  8. OTbroncos says:

We could have ‘Hunt Wolfe’ on the DL….. Lol

  9. OTbroncos says:

Some teams draft for need more than others, but I agree that everyone is aware of their needs, and take it into consideration. However, the teams that do it more tend to get themselves in trouble. Take us when we took Von Miller. At the time we need a DT in the worst way.

  10. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT at the time we also needed help getting after the QB. We had Doom but that was it and its been shown success cant happen with 1 pass rusher. So we drafted by need there as well.

  11. OTbroncos says:

Some positions are always in need i.e. pass rushers and legit CB’s. I’d be happy to see us get one of each with our 1st two picks.

  12. alaskanbronco06 says:

I wouldnt mind that OT. Id still prefer DT then CB.

  13. OTbroncos says:

I just want the best athlete who can make the biggest impact on the field this season, and I don’t see that in any of the DT’s available in the bottom of the 1st round.

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

IMO there will be a handful of DTs towards the end of the first round who can make a big impact next year on our DL.

  15. OTbroncos says:

There might be some decent DT’s at the bottom half of the 1st round, but my arguement has to do with salary cap issues down the road. Signing an above average DT in free agency is much cheaper than replacing Champ Bailey would be. Same thing goes for Dumervil. We also have quite a few elite players that are going to be coming off rookie contracts in a few years.

At 6’2″, 292 lbs, Florida State DL Everett Dawkins ran the 40 yd dash – official 5.00 in his first attempt and a 5.05 in his second attempt. He pumped 23 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press. He posted a vertical jump of 30 inches while his broad jump measured 8 feet, 6 inches. He had interviews with 49ers, Redskins, Rams & Panthers, plus others.

So far, walterfootball projects Broncos to draft Dawkins in 3rd rd, though he may have moved up the board with a few Teams.

  17. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Hunt would be awesome, he reminds me of wolfe in the sense that he looks capable but kinda flies under the radar for the most part … until his freakish combine that is. Last year most of us didnt know Wolfe. After Hunts combine he could got late 1 early 2 in which case we would have to get him with our first or move up in the second round.

Teams do draft BPA, but u gotta balance that with need. If the Lions for example bomb next year and they have the number 1 pick and the number 1 player in draft is a QB (though it will most likely be clowney) they won’t draft QB cuz they have a really good young one. Its a balance. This year though i think the Lions need to draft Milliner in the first and Trufant in the second cuz their secondary stinks that bad lol … assuming we don’t take trufant, which i wouldn’t mind but i don’t think CB is as pressing as the outside world is making it. They saw Champs worst game ever, and all of a sudden think they know what the broncos need. The same broncos that had no 300 yard passer all season. With champ harris and carter, we are better off than most, add porter and we are stellar.

I was readin DP there was a comment where someone was talking about ND v Bama, saying Bamas massive OLine owned the DL and Teo became a non factor … he sucks. And some one responded, “you mean like the ravens revamped O owned our dline and von miller became a non factor?” … thats one of the points I tried to make. Not comparing the 2, thats an insult to miller but the DL gotta do their job for LBs to do theirs and I know that wasn’t the only qualm for some, also missed tackles on a bigger back and “giving up” … assuming thats quantifiable. Just pointing that out.

Nice insight royal, whats his wingspan tho. Fox can be pretty tough on shorter DTs and DTs with short arm span. At 6’2 he maybe unimpressed. Thats my part of me thinks he is loving the potential of Hunt … I can just see him getting him. Few years back I was big on Stephen Paea from Oregon, Broncos liked him too, but fox said his hands were too short. Thats where im getting this idea from.

Good chat, too bad I got to run… Later on all.

  20. alaskanbronco06 says:

TRB teams draft for needs. They take who they think the best player is for the need but in rare situations is it just BPA. You can go look at the past 5+ years of drafts 1st round and you can see only a handful of players taken that wernt for a position of need.

Also you can question him giving up all you want. All you have to do is just watch the game again. You can see it on his face early that he gave up. You can see it in his play on the field as well.

  21. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT signing a above average DT in FA and not wanting one drafted for salary reasons down the road is a funny argument. I say that because we dont really have the money this year to even sign an above average DT. We have 14.8 million not including roll over from last year and just around 18 million with the roll over. 9.5 goes to Clady for his franchise tag. which leaves 9 mil or so. Granted we can release some players to add a bit more (About 10-15 mil for names ive seen mentioned) and then we have to take into account money for our draft picks and other guys to resign.

Important thing to note is last year we stood pat when we got to around 12 mil till after draft time.

  22. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Its kinda hard to specify need to tell you the truth … not unless you have a BOSS at the position … every position usually can be upgraded. So everything is almost always a need. Idea of a percieved need by the Broncos always being ignored is DT for example like going VM over Marcel Darius or even Patrick Peterson as our CBs were on Life support. We chose VM cuz we believed him to be the best player available … LB wasn’t a NEED but definitely could be upgraded is what I am saying. But like i said, its a blance so there really is no right or wrong answer lol

  23. 1nOnlyTRB says:

AB, Maybe if Peyton took a Brady deal, he wouldn’t be sucking us dry for darn near 20 million a year. Brady agreed to make less than that in 2 years. Just saying … thats why the Patriots have the rings and remain competitive year in and year out. Cuz the players put their money where their mouth is, starting from the top and the highest paid.

  24. alaskanbronco06 says:

TRB Pass rusher was a need. OT already mentioned that example and it isnt fitting. We needed everything. CB help DT pass rusher. We took the pass rusher. A need. DT was addressed last year. Wolfe was drafted to play DT as before Hunter got hurt our starting DTs were Wolfe and Warren. He as we know ended up seeing a lot of time as a DE majorly due in part to Hunters injury. Needs can be easy to tell if you watch a lot of games and look at the stats. What makes it harder is we dont know progression of players from one year to the next.

Last years second round pick is a very good example. Brock Osweiler wasnt the BPA by far. But we needed a QB (Unless you wanted Hanie to be the backup) We went with out need. Best example for BPA is when Packers took Cobb.

There are times when teams do take BPA but 95% of the time it will be the best player in an area of need. Its more of a combination of both.

  25. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Good point TRB re: Paea- I didn’t find the exact wingspan for Dawkins but did find this… ” 2nd smallest arms and wingspan of anyone”.

  26. alaskanbronco06 says:

Brady changes his deals two years in a row and everyone forgets that this guy wouldnt even think about it few years ago. Brady willing to do that has nothing to do with them having rings. Since they got their rings when he was on his rookie deal and new signed deal. Also the fact Brady is on the same team is a big help for him to do it.

However I have mentioned the fact Manning should meet with Elway and everyone to work something out to help make more cap room. Also everyone just mentions Manning. However Champ is making 10.5 mil and Doom 12 mil. They both want to win (Champ especially so) they both are willing to do what it takes to help the team. Why is no one screaming about them doing something about their deals? Both have been good but not worth that kind of money.

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

About Dawkins his arm length is 32 3/4 inches.

  29. 1nOnlyTRB says:

You always address the head first … which is QB. Its called leading by example. And sure champ makes 10.5 but Peyton makes darn near double that. And he never gave the discount to the colts either. This wasn’t meant to be a blame game, just pointing out facts. Champ has always been open to accepting less. Don’t know dooms situation, if memory serves right his deal maybe ending soon. Now whether they have been worth their money is debatable. Doom missed a full year but has been a force year in and year out when he plays … these days von just gets there before him. Last year he had 56 tackles, 6 fumbles forced and 11 sacks … thats impact. And champ was part of a secondary that held QBs below 300 yards all year … a defense which operates on the ability of champ to play on an island. didn’t work out in playoffs but u cannot ignore all the other games because of ONE performance.

The way I read the Brady deal, and I could be wrong, he added three years to hid contract for the extension. I don’t see Peyton adding three years and let’s not forget he has only been here one year.
