Broncos Fall to Falcons, 27-21

September 17th, 2012 - 10:14pm by Tyler Everett

The Broncos came back from a 20-point first half deficit to cut Atlanta’s lead to 27-21 with 3:25 remaining. But the Falcons were able to run out the clock and prevent Denver from completing the comeback.

Running back Willis McGahee led the way for the Broncos with 113 yards rushing and two second half touchdowns on 22 carries.

Denver fell behind 10-0 early in the first quarter and was unable to erase a 20-0 first half deficit in a 27-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.

Denver found itself in a 10-0 hole after committing four first quarter turnovers — three interceptions and one fumble. Atlanta’s first touchdown drive of the game covered just one yard after Falcons safety William Moore returned his interception to the Broncos 1-yard line. Atlanta running back Michael Turner plunged in from a yard out to make it 7-0 Falcons.

Atlanta led 20-0 before Broncos QB Peyton Manning led a 13-play, 80-yard drive with time winding down in the second quarter. Manning capped the drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who made the leaping reception despite tight coverage in the corner of the end zone.

The Broncos outscored the Falcons 14-7 in the second half thanks to solid defense and two rushing touchdowns from McGahee, but Atlanta picked up multiple first downs to seal the deal after Denver had cut it to 27-21 in the closing minutes.

we need safeties. ours are terrible esp. moore

  2. alaskanbronco06 says:

    It was 27-21 not 27-14

  3. tnalen66 says:

Moore is always late on every play and makes stupid penalties

  4. wolfedom says:

I don’t think any one could have predicted the first half. Bad ref calls, turn overs, and no pressure on matt. We will survive.

  5. tnalen66 says:

At least we came back & made a game of it. Too many TOs and way way too many bad calls.

  6. alaskanbronco06 says:

No one predicted the game would go like this. Everyone expected a shoot out. Besides the first quarter was a good game.

Strand lol early you said its not how you start but how you finish well this game it was how we started lol

  7. alaskanbronco06 says:

Refs were really bad that game.

  8. Banned_inc says:

way to state the obvious ab !!!!!

  9. Aroe58 says:

ahhh this lose hurts…but i love the fact that this team has heart and never gives up

  10. tnalen66 says:

No show should never carry the ball.

  11. wolfedom says:

Steve Young says the NFL doesn’t care, if they did they would settle the ref strike. They want to break the union.

  12. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Lol banned….

Nalen I agree he shouldnt run but he did have a nice catch.

  13. socalbigbroncofan says:

cant have 3 interceptions in the first quarter. and how come we couldnt beat manning when we had nolan. lol.

  14. tnalen66 says:

Nolen brought his A game. I miss him as a DC

  15. tnalen66 says:

Yes No show is a very good 3rd down back catching out of the back field

  16. mainBroncos60 says:

    I think we were out-coached.

  17. wolfedom says:

We were outplayed, no pressure on Ryan and no turnovers.

  18. tnalen66 says:

    Nolen vs McCoy yes.

  19. socalbigbroncofan says:

if offense gets it going from the beggining we have a good chance but falcons played a good game. too bad they choke in the playoffs. also gonzales still hasnt won a playoff game.

  20. Silverbullet K says:

Did the broncos blow another high draft pick? Where is Ronnie Hillman? Injured?

  21. tnalen66 says:

Ryan got away way too many times.

  22. tnalen66 says:

We seem to always have a bad 2nd pick

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

Moore and Porter both dropped possible INTS one was a pick 6.

We need a better OC not DC I think JDR is doing a good job. I mean this was only his second game. We need to work on our quick pass defense (I said this last week) and to cover our blitzes better.

  24. tnalen66 says:

    Ayers, Tebow, Moore , Hillman???

  25. mainBroncos60 says:

I’m not so sure about JDR. I thought our defense played poorly.

  26. socalbigbroncofan says:

also other teams our going to look at what the falcons did to manning. we need to protect him better. and build momentum before manning does his thing. these guys are still learning this system.

  27. tnalen66 says:

It seems like we have need a safety for years. Not since Lynch & Ferguson have we have too good safeties

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

Our D held them to 13 points off 4 turnovers thats not bad. Wasnt our Ds best game but we were also playing a great offensive team.

  29. tnalen66 says:

Kuper will be a huge help we he returns

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

Ramirez right now is the weak link on our OLine. Cant wait for Kuper to return

  31. socalbigbroncofan says:

time to go back to work. houston will be tough. good thing we are home.

  32. tnalen66 says:

At least we have the next two games at home.

  33. socalbigbroncofan says:

yes safety needs to be improved. moore is always so close. but close doesnt cut it. he has to make a play.

  34. wolfedom says:

Peyton is a class act. Takes all the blame on himself. Said he put them in too big a hole and couldn’t get out.

  35. alaskanbronco06 says:

Moore does need to make that play. He missed a int or two last week and missed a big one this week. He HAS to make those plays. Or he can be shown the bench or door.

Wolfedom thats good to hear he did that. His three INTs were all bad choices by him.

  36. tnalen66 says:

Atlanta is a very good team. SF vs Atl in the NFC championship game. SF SB bound.

  37. socalbigbroncofan says:

thats all true. no turn overs its a different game 21-14 denver. i wont count that moreno turnover becasue it was bull.

  38. tnalen66 says:

If Moore tackles Jones it would of gotten very interesting

  39. alaskanbronco06 says:

SBBF It was. We had the recovery.

And Nalen I agree about that!!!

  40. tnalen66 says:

yes ,but No show did fumble it. One of a dozen bad calls against us.

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

Two big calls that stand out to me were one was a holding play by Atls OG on Wolfe I believe in the end zone which if called wouldve been a safety and we wouldve got the ball back. And the other was a no call for PI on a 3rd down against Atl.

Thats fumble was a bad call too but I said that as well.

  42. socalbigbroncofan says:

i said before the game. if we win that game. i go with a frisco and Denver superbowl. thats close and i believe we make the playoffs. by december we are a scoring machine with manning.

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

Can we get the score fixed? It says we lost 27-14 instead of 27-21….

  44. tnalen66 says:

The pass int. calls were soooo bad. No contact and they call it on us on 3rd down, and they don’t call about 5 for us. one in the end zone and one on the deep ball to decker late in the 4th & the next play is a sack and we punt

  45. alaskanbronco06 says:

On offense we have to remember they are still getting used to Mannings calls and all that and Georgiadome is a very very loud place

  46. alaskanbronco06 says:

Nalen I agree. those two were bad onces as well. The one in the end zone was it when the defender had his hand grabbing the neck hole of Deckers jersey?

  47. socalbigbroncofan says:

the refs were terrible. i hope this game is enough to make the nfl get with the program and bring the original refs back. like my boy ed hochuli. lol.

  48. tnalen66 says:

i do think it is rediculous that the refs our asking for a pension plan for the few days a year they work.

  49. tnalen66 says:

yes that was one of them. even gruden was on our side on the pass int calls

  50. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yea he was. So many calls he was questioning saying he had no idea what they were calling.

If JDR leaves or get fired after this year can we go get Gruden for our DC? Lol I love Gruden and think he is a excellent defensive minded coach. But only if that happens to JDR
