Broncos Defeat Raiders 38-24

November 6th, 2011 - 6:47pm by Kenny Legan

The Denver Broncos used all three phases to defeat the Oakland Raiders Sunday at the O.co Coliseum 38-24.

Quarterback Tim Tebow had two touchdown passes and 118 rushing yards. But he wasn’t the highest rusher on the day for Denver, as running back Willis McGahee ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns of his own. Overall, the Broncos put up 299 yards on the ground against the Raiders.

Denver also got it done on defense. Cornerback Champ Bailey picked off Oakland quarterback Carson Palmer twice — the second of which sealed the game for Denver. Cornerback Chris Harris also had an interception, which led directly to a 60-yard touchdown run by McGahee to tie the game 24-24 at the end of the third quarter.

Not to be outdone, the Broncos special teams got into the mix. With 5:53 left in the game, Eddie Royal received a punt and ran 85 yards for the go-ahead touchdown.

Check back soon for more reaction from the game on DenverBroncos.com.

GO BRONCOS! Picked us to lose and didn’t think we would turn things around this week. Crow never tasted so good! haha.

  2. collies10 says:

Yeah Denver0723 same here but who cares we were good in alot of areas tonight

  3. broncosfan96 says:

BRONCOS! That was amazing! There is definitely improvement! Just keep getting better each week and keep focusing and I know we will have an amazing season!

  4. collies10 says:

Hope Bay was able to watch this game. Love his analysis. I think that game would of eased his pain alot.

  5. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

it feels good to win more againts the raiders.

  7. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

True that collies! I bet he’s loving his crow also. lol

  8. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Or in his case “dirt” lol

  9. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I picked us to win … only cuz i cant stand to ever pick us to lose … let alone against the raiders … i did not think that this team was capable of scoring that high … who knew … raiders gave us alot of help too tho. I enjoyed the victory … even if we got our usual jerkyl and hyde team. I also saw slight improvements in TT and he passed better when he had time. He is far from Pro bowl caliber but all I wanna see from him and this team in general is improvement.

Hats of to Doom finally getting himself a sack.

Double hats of to Von Miller for the sacks and constant pressure … one of which led to a INT.

Hats off to Royal for receiving TD and Return TD.

Hats off to McGahee for toughing it out with a recently repaired hand and gashing them on the ground with some help from TT runs.

We just clicked on alot of cylinders in the second half.

Congrats to Chris Harris, Undrafted Rookie with his first pick.

And hats of to Jacoby Ford for that TD catch … that was amazing even tho he is a raider ….

    …. O yea … Goodman sucks

    Later Days, TRB

  10. collies10 says:

Tebow does not have to be best passer in game. Just has to keep opposing teams honest. i think we saw what the fear of his running does. Lions result was bad. But I think them or Greenbay will win the superbowl

  11. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

    Goodman DOES suck seriously!!

  12. fansince77 says:

Well dang… if the Broncos could’ve pulled one off against the Lions, my guess of a 4-4 4xdivision tie would be complete. Still happy with this though ———- who knows, maybe by next week, it’ll be a 4-5 4xdivision tie LOL!!!!!!!!!

  13. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Tebow caught fire in the second half, setting the tempo on our first drive. I know he was just hearing them chants and thinking ok, alright, GOD BLESS!!! lol

  14. strandoftds says:

    Goodman is really bad.

  15. Randy2191 says:

I could of swore both miller and doom had 1.5 sacks each but NFL.com says miller had just .5

  16. strandoftds says:

    LOL

  17. fansince77 says:

Am I the only one here fairly impressed with Harris at CB… even if he hadn’t gotten the pick, he was showing some great coverage chops, especially for a rookie.

  18. strandoftds says:

Your right. Miller had a sack all by his lonesome later in the game.

  19. fansince77 says:

Randy… I think one of his sacks was called back due to a defensive penalty downfield. VERY frustrating.

  20. Mustang says:

Awesome team effort today. So stoked…

  21. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

So, after two more starts like this is the ‘Palmer project’ thrown to the dogs as well?

  22. strandoftds says:

I do like Harris, heck yeah!

  23. socalbigbroncofan says:

Good day to be a broncos fan. Better day to be a broncos fan in so cal with all these raiders fans. Especially the one im related to do.lol. great game all around. Also never hurts when all the division rivals lose. Luv it. GO BRONCOS. GO TEBOW.

  24. BroncosLAX says:

Credit where credit is due and at least for one week Tebow did show improvement and will make me eat my words. There were still badly thrown balls but for the most part he was poised and made good throws setting his feet well… Hats off to Tebow and the Teeam today

  25. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I think the TD strike to Royal was a roll out too. We need more of those. When Tebow was able to get protection and set his feet. He threw alot better. I repeat still got a long way to go but all I wanna see this year is continued improvement. I am not saying he is the one … and he is not a bust either … he is 2-1 as the broncos starter this season … and 3-2 in the NFL as a starter … thats what he is. TRB

  26. fansince77 says:

I think what impressed me with Tebow today is the long drive resulting in a TD — most of his passing snaps were taken from under center. Hopefully he continues to show improvement.

  27. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Fan, A lot of people are impressed with Harris and for good reason. TRB I think Goodman played pretty good today, but we definitely need an upgrade. How about a hats off to Dawk after hyper extending his knee and coming back a play later! Pretty crazy day in the NFL over all.

  28. strandoftds says:

I just saw that the raiders vs S.D. is on Thursday Night Football. Lets win in K.C.

  29. collies10 says:

I think the coaches got the play calling right toight. They are starting to learn how to use Tebow. Got a casablana feeling this for Fox and Tebow “this could be the start of a beautiful friendship”

  30. BroncosLAX says:

    Tebow is actually 3 – 3 as a starter

  31. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Thx for given credit where its due LAX .. even when I didnt want Orton to start … I could admit if he made a great throw … Anyone that expects Tebow to be God overnight is a joker. He has a long way to go. But im willing to watch it unfold … not to turn on him. Another Division game next week. Excited about that. A road win in the black hole of all places. Snapped raider win streak, even tho they had a new QB and no Darren McFadden it was great to watch. The AFC West is so wide open … EVEN WE are still in it lol. And for those bagging saying .. woopty doo, we beat miami …. tell that to the chiefs. Any given sunday baby. TRB

  32. strandoftds says:

I wonder if they`ll show this game on NFL Network.

  33. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    correct LAX … 3-3 … my apologies.

  34. fansince77 says:

Dawkins is a madman!! I think our team showed amazing resilience all the way around. Alot of heavy duty shots taken and they continued to play an old-fashioned face-in-the-dirt pound it on the ground sort of game. Love these kind of games.

  35. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    Didnt see it strand?

  36. strandoftds says:

    Champ got 2 picks. Yes!!

  37. Broncos Born & Raised says:

I agree those three step drops were looking pretty good. He was more collected and got the ball out of his hands faster as well – both from the pocket and the shotgun. If he can continue to improve and punish teams for stacking the box, then we got a pretty good team on our hands. And now we’re only one came back in the division!

  38. BroncosLAX says:

See I am generally reasonable I mean it is the running game that won this game but Tebow was a huge factor in the running game so I can give him credit he played how I would have liked to see him play in Miami… Hasnt made me believe yet but if he continues to improve I will be pleased

  39. strandoftds says:

I meant during the week. So how do you find out about these games then? Do they decide right away on which games they will show?

  40. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I believe he was only sacked once … maybe twice … thats improvement … but there were also mad holding calls.

  41. BroncosLAX says:

We tend to have many more penalties when playing the raiders

  42. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I mean Willis was an absolute monster … and this is coming from a guy that still believes in Moreno but Willis Did work. Too bad he is 30. Woulda loved to have him for a long time. Too bad we couldn’t get DeAngelo Williams. Still looking forward to Fannin but yes … Wills had some tough runs and gainer s… and on some other runs … the hole was so open my grandmother coulda run through it. What gave us the ability to run that well was the HB draw fake Tebow run … after a while they didn’t know who would be running it. That split second hesitation was all it took. TRB

  43. Atwater4HOF says:

The theme for this season is making improvements.

    From last week:
Play calling was not suited to Tebow’s skill set. THIS WEEK we ran the read options, 3 step drops, and got Tebow out of the pocket.

Offensive line/Tebow took way too many sacks last week. Negative plays are drive killers. THIS WEEK both the Oline and Tebow did a much better job of protection and avoiding those negative plays.

We lost the turnover battle 3-0 last week. THIS WEEK we won the turnover battle 3-0. Great game from Champ, DOOM, and Von.

McGahee didn’t play last week. THIS WEEK he was unstoppable. Definitely our offensive MVP this season.

Tebow was all around bad last week. THIS WEEK his TD throws to Royal and Decker were on the money. Also stood in the pocket and delievered the ball on time for the most part. He had blitzers in his face but he hung in there and at least was able to throw the ball away.

Hopefully the John Fox conspiracists can use this week as proof that those claims are outlandish. Big game next week in Arrowhead and we actually have a chance to salvage this season if we can continue to improve on this game.

  44. Atwater4HOF says:

Ryan Clady unfortunately has regressed this season. I still have confidence in him, he just needs to focus on better footwork and technique. Way too many penalties on his end.

  45. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

The people that think Fox is trying to kill Tebows’ career are just unreal, imo not to be taken seriously…

  46. bronco4L says:

now we have the chiefs lets hope for another win.

  47. nelsonflowers says:

Good job guys! Kudos all around. Let’s keep it rolling.

  48. thebroncoguy says:

I dont know if you guys have noticed this, bug mcgahee is the key to our success, the three games we have won have been because he has had a good day at the office, tebow wins games with a solid running game. Lets hope mcgahee keeps up good work! With solid running game tebow can develop into a starting QB!

    Go Broncos!

  49. BeastFromEast92 says:

All I can say is this is a great win…and a TOTAL team effort!!!!!

We looked like a totally different team!!!

  50. 1nOnlyTRB says:

We looked like a totally different team … IN THE SECOND HALF lol … first half we kinda looked the same … but still improved over all.

There is no team in the NFL where one man wins it all … except maybe Colts … Manning was that damn team… look at them now lol.

    TRB
