Broncos Claim Davis

June 1st, 2010 - 4:45pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos on Tuesday claimed linebacker Bruce Davis off waivers from the New England Patriots.

Davis was drafted in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The second-year player saw time in five games with the Steelers as a rookie, then spent most of the 2009 season on the Patriots’ practice squad.

Davis tallied 29 quarterback sacks in his collegiate career at UCLA — second in school history — along with 137 tackles, 42.5 stops for loss and 17 passes defensed. In 50 games for the Bruins, Davis started 28 contests at right defensive end, causing six fumbles and recovering three.

He earned first-team All-American honors from College Football News as a junior and was voted All-American second-team and All-Pac-10 first-team as a senior.

Glad to have him on board. Alot of LBs and alot of competition. With any luck, he will have a resurgence in the Blue and Orange and be who the Pittsburgh steelers thought he could be; maybe even better. TRB out.

  2. 203killinspree says:

I would like to believe it, but he hasn’t made it with two franchises who know their stuff. Especially Pitt. If they let him loose, his chances are not very good.

  3. CrazyBRONCOSfaN08 says:

Once again, another patriot . . . wtf. GO BRONCOS!!!

  4. denverbro89 says:

He will be good on special teams, which was a problem last year because Larsen was hurt, so was Greisen, and Andra Davis wasn’t fast enough to be effective, which ultimately led to him being released.

  5. denverbro89 says:

I keep hearing people say Knowshon Moreno had a sub-par year, I think he was just over utilized, he had way too many carries, mainly because he was used as the short yardage back, and I also remembering a stat, telling that he was one of the backs that had the least amount of negative runs.

  6. shelflyfe says:

I think its good to add more young talent to the roster, especially to bolster up our special teams unit!

Thomas, Tebow and Decker interview. This is great stuff because you can see the bond they are already making….our future right there!

  8. BroncoAussie says:

“Negatives: Lacks definition and will need to add strength regardless of his pro position. … Essentially a one-dimensional speed rusher who plays with too high of a pad level and can get stoned at the line if he tries a bull-rush or to spin back inside. … Too often Davis is finished if the offensive tackle gets his hands on him. … Showed the lateral quickness at the Senior Bowl needed to move to linebacker, but struggled with the mental side. May not have the instincts for the position.”

Whoever did this analysis was spot on with this guy. Will probably be a special teamer unless he gets cut.

If you are a TRUE Broncos Fan, you gotta love the transition our team is
making. All of the haters will be crying when we succeed!

  10. BroncoAussie says:

Haha there is no such thing as a TRUE fan, it is a term drummed up by people that don’t like other people saying bad things about their team.

Def of Fan: An ardent devotee; an enthusiast.

Which we all are or we would not be here on this blog, unless your a troll (raiders fans).

I think this guy is an extra body for training camp, though all he has to do is beat out Jarvis Moss for a roster spot.

  11. BroncoAussie says:

oh and I wasn’t calling da1rob a troll, was saying raiders fans in general are trolls haha. If that sentence come across wrong, was not an attack.

  12. FTR says:

No worries BA. Trolls they are and always will be!! We got it the first time.
    Go Broncos

The true king has returned to claim his throne!

  14. greatness007 says:

I told you all we would draft Tebow. You laughed and mocked me. I said Marshall would get traded. You thought I just didn’t like him as a person. I said Thomas over Dez. You questioned my football knowledge. Now I tell you Orton will start. Brandstater will get cut if no trade happens. Mark it down and question it as usual.

  15. florio's_mom says:

What are the winning lottery numbers 007?

  16. BroncoAussie says:

Haha florio, I wonder if he would like to put a wage on it. But that is the most likely situation. Orton starts and then loses his job. Brandstater can’t be traded so we will cut him and hopefully get him on the PS.

  17. greatness007 says:

Flo if you can remember me? I had this 007 first. I been doing my own thing over at ESPN. All my mini me’s have used the moniker. It ok they might have silent my friend uub. I am still who they all imitate. LMao. T.R.O.T.K.!

  18. greatness007 says:

Everyone know who started the 007 moniker on here. People found out I work for ESPN. Then tried to get me thrown off. It just made me concentrate on helping write articles over there. I just heard how the same people that wanted Tony pike now in love with Tebow. T.R.O.T.K.!

  19. BroncoAussie says:

Tony Pike was overrated, Tebow is interesting, great person, but great football player? That is to be seen. But 007 you work for ESPN? nice.

  20. Broncosfan01 says:

Just heard that Ryan Harris is healed and will be on the field tomorrow for passing camp.

  21. BroncoAussie says:

    Where you hear that?

  22. florio's_mom says:

He heard it from 007. Lol

  23. BroncoAussie says:

Haha florio nice call, very funny

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Nice aussie … like your stance on the true fan thing. Woulda touched on it myself but u did real well. Glad to hear about Harris. We will need him especially if tebow gets the nod. Which I doubt but u never know. Funny greatness talks about Tebow, I wanted him after we lost cutler, but when “experts” started questioning his ability, I started getting wishy washy. Shoulda kept the faith. Happy to have him onboard, and while I am biased and want either Quinn or Tebow to get the nod. All I want is the best man for the job throwing the ball. And 007, def was with u on thomas over dez but I was Marshall over all WR options. TRB out.

  25. BroncoAussie says:

Thanks TRB, it was simple and the truth.

And yes I hope the best player wins the QB position. As for Marshall he was a great player but as a person? I am not to sure and I am not going to fight over old dried up milk. But I am interested in seeing Thomas and Decker play. They could be good and Royal looks like a lock at the slot.

  26. Bones1965 says:

Ask Ryan Harris how good this Davis kid is he beat him for 3 sacks against my IRISH.

  27. BroncoAussie says:

I think as a DE he was good, but as an OLB, fail. He should try and catch on with an 4-3 team.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

For all the “PAY DOOM”, “SIGN DOOM” fans out here, what Klis says today about his signing deadlines might be of interest to you:

There are two deadlines. One is June 15. This is when Dumervil must sign the $3.168 million tender he received from the club as a restricted free agent. If he doesn’t sign it, the Broncos can pull their tender and Dumervil would receive a 10 percent raise from his previous year’s salary, which would come out to $588,500. Elvis may be a man of strong principal, but he’s also smart. There will be a push to get a new long-term deal done in the next two weeks. But if not, better believe Dumervil will sign that $3.168 million tender on June 15. At that point, the next deadline for a long-term Dumervil deal is July 29, when veterans report for training camp.

And I believe that if he doens’t sign by July 29, then he is without a contract and must sit out the year before been allowed to look for employment elsewhere. As I’ve always said: Not gonna happen, but it is taking way too darn long.

  29. baylinorcrush says:

As for this Davis practice squad guy, good luck making the team, better shine on ST would be my advice…. Most these Summer late signees have very minimal chances to make the team, McD has already assembled what he believes will be his team and it would be just icing on the cake if one of these last additions actually makes the team and contributes come regular season, just my opinion.

  30. baylinorcrush says:

And this is from Woody about McD:

McDaniels and John Elway have become friends and will be golf partners this summer. Elway told McDaniels that the Super Bowl champions didn’t have as much talent as other Broncos teams, but they were closer on the field and off and had great leadership, and there were no me-first players. McDaniels’ own beliefs were strengthened by what he heard. McDaniels is committed to winning — and fearless in making brash, controversial decisions. McDaniels is committed to Denver.

The Broncos will be a Super Bowl team again. McDaniels will be a successful, popular coach. He will not be leaving anytime soon.

And, correct me if I’m wrong, this is from the same Woody who said a year and a half ago in no uncertain terms when McD traded Cutler than this coach would quickly run himself out of town!!! What an amazing transformation, wouldn’t you say? LOL.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

I’m having fun with this one, this is what Woody said March 19th of last year:

Go ahead, trade Jay Cutler! Get rid of him! Really, really punish him by sending him to Detroit! Or, better still, Siberia! Purge the pouter! Kick him to the curb and throw him under the Bus Cook! But, remember this: Those Jeffs-, Jodys-, Jaspers-, Joshes- come-lately had better study the Broncos’history, or they are doomed to repeat the three-, four- and five-victory seasons. Two words: Steve Ramsey

  32. baylinorcrush says:

    This was March 16th:

Jay Cutler blinked. The seemingly-soon-to-be ex-Broncos quarterback pushed all in and demanded a trade on Sunday night in a Mile High-stakes game. There is no winner. Everybody loses. And the Broncos are the worst for it. An organization that used to be one of the classiest and most successful in professional sports has displaced Dallas and overtaken Oakland as the most diss-informational, dysfunctional franchise in the NFL.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

    This was March 1st:

The Broncos have lost quarterback Jay Cutler. If Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders were thinking, even for a microsecond, about trading Jay Cutler, both must be fired today by Pat Bowlen. If the Broncos’owner was a co-conspirator in such a preposterous, outrageous thought, he should fire himself. Do not suffer the fools gladly. They obviously know not what they do.

I could go on and on researching articles where he jabbed at McD and the entire Bronco organization just a year ago, but I think you get my point…LMAO!!!! And now, for the flavor of the day, Woody says “The Broncos will be a Super Bowl team again. McDaniels will be a successful, popular coach. He will not be leaving anytime soon.” Give me a break Woody, what a joke.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

WOODY PAIGE: THE KING OF ALL BANDWAGON FANS!!!!!!

  35. sndvl says:

So, if DOOM is forced to sign that 3.1 million tender, we will have to pony up mega dollars come free agency time. Or risk losing him outright. Sure there is the franchise tag route, but that is a risky road to travel as well. With McD there are the roads less traveled too. Like trading him, for draft picks, which would be better than losing him for nothing. Even though I believe that is a ridiculous notion. (Thought that about Cutler, Hillis, Marshall et al.).
I dont really understand why this has yet to get completed. It just screams hypocrisy all around. These guys in charge of “making the decisions”; preach team first, good character types, hard working; Its become blah blah blah to me.
We all can agree that DOOM is the prototype player McD has claimed to want on his team. Screamed it, preached it. Look at the Tebow pick. No different, other than DOOM HAS PROVEN EFFECTIVE AT THE NEXT LEVEL!
I know, Im only one fan, whose voice really doesnt mean anything to those making the decisions. But when everbody in BRONCOS COUNTRY is screaming to PAY DOOM, they should really listen!
    GO BRONCOS 2K10!!!!!!!!!!

  36. hometeam007 says:

Baylin, thanks for the research. Ahh the memories!!!

I would agree with Woody’s most recent sentiments however. I do believe that McDaniels is trying to bring back the comradeship and team first mentality that wins championships. It makes me proud to be a Bronco Fan!

  37. DLMyers says:

Those who have screamed Pay Doom and then bash the organization for not doing so have not possibly seen the other side.
Maybe Elvis is not worth the BIG money! Maybe the Broncos slot him in the $3-$4 million range! Exceptional good pass rusher but just OK on run support.
Most very good LB’s get about $5 million a year, so where do you slot Elvis?

  38. iwillx2 says:

we should defifitly pay Doom erville he has definitly earned it and he is worth being paid BIG money and a long term contract. We are definitly moving in the right direction. McDaniels is making some hard, contriversial decisions and they definitly need to be made. We won’t always agree with his decisions but when they pann out, they help us win and we start winning CHAMPIONSHIPS everyone will be praising and riding McDaniels jock. I am a believer in Josh McDaniels. I don’t particularly love every move he makes but I do believe they are to better our teams and that we will be a better team because of them. Just trust the guy and give him a chance. He will win.

  39. 1nOnlyTRB says:

While many know im not a fan of McD and that I just accept his existence, I truly hope he succeeds. And for one reason only (minus the obvious one being i want the broncos to be awesome), because if he doesnt succeed and gets fired, what we would have lost would have all been for nothing. But like everything in life, no reward without risk right? I havent joined the pay doom campaign because I believe it goes without saying. People tell me “the front office knows best and blah blah blah” but if they dont pay doom, well, I would be at a loss for words. So i believe it will happen. Just a waiting game I suppose. TRB out.
