Broncos Brace for Quick Turnaround

November 14th, 2011 - 4:57pm by Max Henson

The Broncos had no time to waste.

After defeating the Chiefs in Kansas City, Head Coach John Fox boarded the plane and immediately got to work on preparation for Thursday night’s game against the Jets.

“I watched our game flying back on the plane, got that out of the way,” Fox said earlier today. “When I got home I watched the Jets play New England, probably for the second half, and watched it in its entirety today.”

Quarterback Tim Tebow was in a New York state of mind before the plane back to Denver even took off.

“I am going to start watching Jets film in a few minutes when we get on the bus and try to prepare and get ready,” Tebow said after the game.

During a normal week, Mondays usually serve as a day to study the most recent game film. But with the Jets coming to town Thursday, Fox and his staff analyzed the Kansas City film Sunday night and quickly turned the team’s attention to the Jets.

According to Fox, the team will review the Chiefs film following Thursday’s game. For now, the Broncos are focused entirely on Week 11.

“We’re right into the New York Jets,” Fox said.

The quick turnaround presents a challenge for both teams as they install their respective game plans. Focus and attention to detail will be particularly important with less time to prepare.

“They’ll have the same issues — same as us,” Fox said. “It’s really not what you know, but it’s what can you get across to your players in a short period of time. That will be the week’s work.”

Denver played on Monday night to open the season, but a Thursday night game changes the week’s schedule more drastically.

It will be rookie linebacker Von Miller’s first experience with a short week and he understands extra hours of study will be required to meet expectations on the field Thursday.

“It just comes with being a pro. You just have to stay on top of things,” Miller said today. “We definitely have to watch a lot of film this week and just prepare as hard as we can.”

Fox and his staff will be working overtime to ensure the players are put in the best position to earn their fifth win of the season.

“We’ll be here late tonight, I’m sure,” Fox said.

And no I don’t base my season record prediction on who starts and who doesn’t, just an overall feel for the team as a whole and the schedule they are up against.

thanx bay, nites, and ma hallo

I allways learn alot from you guys, different angles to think on, much appreciation

SANCHEESE will be the official sandwich of Miller & Doom this week.

  5. Louisianabroncofan says:

I am thinking our d is the reason we won that game. We can really bring the heat at opposing qb’s and our o does just enough. Whatever wins though because I love the wins. especially since it was back to back wins on the road against the raiders AND the chiefs. Wow!

    Thanks for responding.

It seems to me like when we are running an offensive scheme, everything is kind of a hodgepodge with no real rhythm to it. Unlike other teams, even though the receiver might be open a split-second, it’s smoother. Is it because we’re not passing that much, or because we’re young, or the other teams’ defense is that much better?

  7. daddybronc says:

MB60 – your observation is correct in large part. It is difficult for a receiver to continue to run a decoy route when a run play has been called and they then need to think ‘block’ rather than ‘pass’. The Broncos have their receivers in a precarious situation in that they have to look like receivers, perform as downfield blockers, and then peel off away from coverage in order to become a downfield pass threat in a broken play. It was especially true that the receivers didn’t get open against KC this week because the Broncos didn’t call pass plays – they simply didn’t need to.

  8. Pakaloloman says:

seems to me its a bit of all of that, that fluidity comes from the repitition, and the lock out hurt us bad, in that we are going through a regime change with on the fly learning, im pretty sure this feeling is new to many fans, but we look to the next game and leave the future where its at.

  9. Pakaloloman says:

hey daddybronc, how bad do feel the lock out affected us?

  10. daddybronc says:

I think all of the Broncos passing problems are Orton’s fault!!!

  11. mainBroncos60 says:

Thank you Daddybronc and Pak for your answers. They make sense. I just wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing something or not understanding.

    Go Broncos!

  12. Pakaloloman says:

when orton was doing his thing, hittn them receivers like crazy, in stride, i feel like alot of that is repitition,. and feel like thats what tebow needs,. call it tire practice …,but get him some

  13. daddybronc says:

I think that without the lockout the Broncos management already had enough evidence that Orton was not the guy, that Tebow would have had the camp, and Tebow would have been the starter. I think all Orton had to do was give some semblance of hope of a better than 4-12 record and he would still be the starter and Tebow would still be sidelined and allowed to mature for another year. As much as I despised the play of Orton, I still think that Tebow desperately needed that offseason training camp. All of the timing and chemistry issues between Tebow and his receivers originates with the NFL lockout. I could go on to preach this sermon in full – but the lockout happened – it will happen again – in the end it’s all about the money!

  14. mainBroncos60 says:

If it’s okay, I have another question.

If Tebow can throw that incredibly beauitful pass to Decker in the fourth quarter, how can everyone say he can’t pass? I certainly have seen the awful and embarrassing passes, but how can he hit one like that and then be so awful other times? How does one judge? By the beautiful pass or the awful ones?

  15. mainBroncos60 says:

Will the real Tebow stand up!?! LOL

  16. Pakaloloman says:

if your a Bronco fan i say pick the beautifull one, its all perspective.

  17. Pakaloloman says:

ah, yes the money, if by the astronomicly small chance that Tebow gets a play off game, dont we owe him like 12mil more or some such ludicris amount of hay?

  18. Pakaloloman says:

man admin fix the clock, bout had a stroke, gota sleep sometime

  19. Pakaloloman says:

They call that the intangible( tebows remarkble ability to sudenly become much more accurate and all around more effective when it realy matters most) his 4th qrtr ratings are pretty good, but most importantly he is a realy good sport, true gentleman., and a natural leader., id love to see the guy develope as a Bronco.,

  20. mainBroncos60 says:

Thank you, Pak, for responding to my questions. I couldn’t agree more about TT becoming a long-time Bronco.

    Hope I haven’t been a blog killer!

    Go Broncos!

  21. Atwater4HOF says:

With our recent surge I kind of wish we didn’t trade Llyod a few weeks ago. Decker is playing well but it would be nice to have a receiver that can make a play on the ball without being wide open. It is what it is though. Time for Willis or Thomas to step up.

I still like my 7-9 prediction I had to start the season.

I have us beating Vikings, Chiefs, and either Jets or Bills.

    MB60…..WELCOME to the Country!!!!!!!!

  29. sndvl says:

MainBronco60, I don’t think the issue is whether Tebow can make that beautiful throw or not. It has more to do with whether or not he can do it on a consistent basis. Emphasis on consistent! That key factor will determine his tenure in Denver as a QB. Or in the NFL for that matter.

  30. daddybronc says:

MB60-All the experienced fans here on the blog debate these things incessantly, so I won’t presume to be giving you more than my own opinion.

I think that Tebow demonstrated his accuracy beyond question in college. Tebow has had unusual scrutiny from the beginning of his public career. As such, when an analyst says something about a player, it gets repeated, and it remains the truth until proven not true.

Tebow got his rap by; refusing to set his feet before throwing, using more of a baseball throwing motion than the conventional Pop Warner pass, throwing bad passes while under pressure, and by having game jitters in Miami and throwing some doosies that are inexplicable.

As to setting the feet – Tebow definitely needs an off season with a training camp to correct this. Coaches are right to not address this mid-season.

As to the throwing motion – a baseball is thrown more like a catapult motion whereas – Pop Warner used to define the pass as beginning in the telephone position – starting at the ear. In Pop Warner we were taught that the ball was held in two hands, snapped to the ear for quick release, never exposed to the defense. This is nonsense as far as Tebow is concerned – the majority of his passes are thrown on the run and while scrambling. Throwing motion drills would be wasted on Tebow.

Now to the real reason for passing problems in Denver: The receivers in Denver spent their offseason and their first 4 plus games working with Kyle Orton. (Orton does an excellent job of conventional QB. He was a very analytical, smart, accurate passer. If Orton had been surrounded by teammates that were all adequately handling their positions, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Orton played uninspired football and so did the majority of his supporting cast with notable exceptions.) Tebow then is thrown into a situation where his team is barely functioning, and having no real practice with his receivers. Then the Broncos front office took away the one receiver that had demonstrated an ability to adjust to Tebow’s scrambling and remain open for longer periods of time. (Lloyd) Each one of the Bronco receivers run very differently, with different skill sets, play preferences, straight away speed and cutting speeds and angles. It really is a wonder the Broncos complete any passes at all.

The solution: TIME – enjoy the ride – expect growing pain – expect flashes of brilliance – it’s all good – help me encourage this fan base not to throw out the baby before his first run around the block!

  31. mainBroncos60 says:

Thank you, BFE, for the welcome. I’m glad to be here.

Sndvl — that makes perfect sense. In your opinion, is it lack of talent or lack or practice that makes TT less that consistent?

  32. alexanserg says:

Can’t wait for thursday. No idea what our offense is going to look like, but I am pretty sure our defense is going to have a field day.

Loved what miller was saying about having to match the other D. “If they get 3 and outs, we have to get 3 and outs.” Shows a lot of responsibility there.

    Go Broncos!! Go Tebow!

    Von DOOOM!!!

  33. alexanserg says:

By the way. I must say, Orton has handled being benched with a lot of class. I see him on the sidelines talking with Tebow between plays. I haven’t seen him pouting or sulking at all.

Probably because he knows 1-4 means you deserve to get benched and changes need to be made. Add in the surge since then, and I imagine Orton realizes he has nothing to complain about.

At anyrate, much respect to Orton (and really all our QBs) for the class they have shown through all this hoopla.

  34. txwinebergs says:

John Fox. I know you read these.. You can thank me later. I was saying this all a long. Bring in Tim Tebow, Bench Orton. Then I said you needed to give Tim A Chance and give him the ability to do things he can do, and not restrict him. Then I said in previous posts, In previous posts I said that if you instill belief in your QB and the players buy into this, then the team will be more effective. It so just happens that all the things I have said, its not surprising that I see you talking about it in your press conferences, and also implementing it on the field.

Since I am not on your payroll, I belived as a reward I propose this. If the Broncos make it to the Superbowl this year, and YES I honestly believe they will, I propose you find a way to reach me and pay for me and my family a trip to see the broncos play in the Superbowl this year. And I have no doubt that DENVER will be there as long as you let TIM make plays, and continue to believe in him, and help him, and not restrict him. Heck with the critics…Is that to much to ask? !!!!

  35. BeastFromEast92 says:

Orton still made 9 million dollars this year, that’ll take the sting outta being benched huh???

    Orton sucks!!!

  36. daddybronc says:

I forgot to mention timing – Timing is critical –

When I was writing about the different skill sets of rec. – timing is the issue. Angle of the cut has been an issue as well – but being on time is even more essential. The number one skill to getting the QB- receiver timing right is reading the defense and automatically knowing where the pressure is coming from and where that indicated the open receiver is going to be. It is at that point that the QB has a decision to make.

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

txwinebergs…if the Broncos play in the SB this year,I’ll pay for your tickets, plane tickets, food, and hotel room, and all the beer you can drink too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. mainBroncos60 says:

Wow, Daddybronc! Thanks for that. I think I’m beginning to understand (except for the feet part; if the game’s going too fast for TT, then it’s really going too fast for me to see his feet-lol).

I have seen TT go way behind his ear to throw. It flat looks awkward. Where in the world did he learn that? Also, is it true that TT is dislexic? My sister’s a lefty and she believes that leftys sometimes have a problem with that. If he is that might explain part of his supposed inability to learn the playbook.

    Thanks again. This if fun!

  39. mainBroncos60 says:

    *is*

  40. alexanserg says:

I don’t think dyslexia has any relation to being left handed.

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:

    I got a twin brother and he’s a lefty,he reads fine!

  42. alexanserg says:

But then, I really don’t know

  43. alexanserg says:

I’m right handed, and I tometimes have souble with dyslexia.

  44. mainBroncos60 says:

Very good! I’m right handed, and obviously I have trouble spelling. LOL

  45. daddybronc says:

Daddybronc is a lefty – one of those weird kind that write, eat, kick, bat, hammer lefty -but throw righty.

    I read fine!

Lefties are artistic – articulate – emotional –

BFE – oh no, not two of you!!! LOL – Is he a Bronco fan? Some other town’s drunk? LOL I’d bet he’s the family pet and you’re the blacksheep! Just kidding you.

  46. sndvl says:

Depends on what your definition of talent is!
No arguing the fact that Tim Tebow is a talented football player. Can he (and like Elway said awhile ago), become a talented QB?
So I suppose it’s lack of practice…or offseason…or game time experience…reading defenses…running through his reads…rapport with his receivers…proper mechanics (as mentioned, eloquently may I add, by DaddyBronco)…
As long as we are running the ball the water have been, who cares if Tebow can throw.
I wouldn’t be surprised (depending on Willis Ms status) to see Orton make an appearance Thursday night in the backfield with Tebow…

If the last two weeks are any indication, there is bound to be a wrinkle or two in the offensive gameplan!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

  47. daddybronc says:

Hey Bay – did I ever give a season win/loss prediction? If not – is it too late? Are you giving points on this?

  48. mainBroncos60 says:

Well, I’m out. Thanks for being patient with this newby.

    Go Broncos!!

  49. alexanserg says:
