Broncos Brace for Quick Turnaround

November 14th, 2011 - 4:57pm by Max Henson

The Broncos had no time to waste.

After defeating the Chiefs in Kansas City, Head Coach John Fox boarded the plane and immediately got to work on preparation for Thursday night’s game against the Jets.

“I watched our game flying back on the plane, got that out of the way,” Fox said earlier today. “When I got home I watched the Jets play New England, probably for the second half, and watched it in its entirety today.”

Quarterback Tim Tebow was in a New York state of mind before the plane back to Denver even took off.

“I am going to start watching Jets film in a few minutes when we get on the bus and try to prepare and get ready,” Tebow said after the game.

During a normal week, Mondays usually serve as a day to study the most recent game film. But with the Jets coming to town Thursday, Fox and his staff analyzed the Kansas City film Sunday night and quickly turned the team’s attention to the Jets.

According to Fox, the team will review the Chiefs film following Thursday’s game. For now, the Broncos are focused entirely on Week 11.

“We’re right into the New York Jets,” Fox said.

The quick turnaround presents a challenge for both teams as they install their respective game plans. Focus and attention to detail will be particularly important with less time to prepare.

“They’ll have the same issues — same as us,” Fox said. “It’s really not what you know, but it’s what can you get across to your players in a short period of time. That will be the week’s work.”

Denver played on Monday night to open the season, but a Thursday night game changes the week’s schedule more drastically.

It will be rookie linebacker Von Miller’s first experience with a short week and he understands extra hours of study will be required to meet expectations on the field Thursday.

“It just comes with being a pro. You just have to stay on top of things,” Miller said today. “We definitely have to watch a lot of film this week and just prepare as hard as we can.”

Fox and his staff will be working overtime to ensure the players are put in the best position to earn their fifth win of the season.

“We’ll be here late tonight, I’m sure,” Fox said.

Thanks for killing the mood and turning the Broncos Blog into the sociology blog. The NFL fined him, not western culture. And I have a hunch this fine won’t stop him from putting food on the table.

  33. Broncos Born & Raised says:

For all those who have been saying that Fox and company are conspiring to eliminate Tim Tebow:

“We got young quarterback that’s doing a terrific job in my estimation, that will just get better with time. He’s got maybe one of the better fouth quarter ratings there are, even passing the ball. I think he’s got a pretty good record thus far. He’s proven the ability to bring his team back. All those things are good [things] that I think any coach can build on.”
    - John Fox in a response to a question that wasn’t even directly about Tim. Sounds like about as big vote of confidence a young player can get. Can we put that “The Broncos want Tebow to fail” garbage to rest now please?

  34. Broncos Born & Raised says:

What was mine, Bay? I think 8-8.

  35. baylinorcrush says:

It’s not a perfect world, won’t happen, haha. Anyway I would agree 100% that Fox has no desire to lose with Tebow, but Elway must be a little taken aback by now that we have as many wins as we do kind of messing up some of his plans I believe. I just posted a long comment earlier today that no bloggers really knew how to deal with about Fox, Elway and Tebow all having different agendas. Nothing is black and white even in the NFL.

  36. baylinorcrush says:

    Yes, 8-8

  37. Pakaloloman says:

agreed, take the trash to the curb. what was yours bay?, you seem to have a good grasp of all stages of the game, i bet you analyzed the schedule well, but who would of thought orton would stink it up that bad, and thats gota throw all strategy out the door

  38. baylinorcrush says:

    I got 6-10

  39. Pakaloloman says:

i took 9/7 only because i cant bring myself to doubt my Broncos desire to win, and 8/8 has got to leave a bad taste.., didnt even look at the schedule before i made it

  40. Pakaloloman says:

you go staight of f the schedule, or base that off what you thought orton could do?

  41. Broncos Born & Raised says:

I read that post. I saw a piece with some very similar thinking a couple weeks ago. Can’t remember if it was in the DP or one of the “fanshots” off of mhr. I think it’s a pretty transparent concept that coaches want to win now and execs want to build for the future. Like you said, though, Tim may be putting a bit of a monkey wrench in Elway’s plans. Personally the way I view all the visits to colleges and the scouting of qb’s to simply equate to Elway being thorough. He does not have to make a decision about what’s best for the future right this second, and I’d like to think he won’t until the end of the season. In the mean time I am enjoying watch us win games in rare fashion. I hope it continues.

I am new to the forum and would like to ask a question. If I’m in the wrong place please let me know and I’ll go elsewhere. Incidentally, I have been a Bronsos fan since the teams inception. But I am not even close to being an expert.

In watching other games it seems to me as if the receivers are usually open (or a lot anyway). On the other hand, it seems as if the Broncos receivers are rarely open. I know our QB needs to throw more and better, but if no one is open, how can he? What am I not understanding, or am I seeing things wrong? Thank you.

rare, ha, lol… ive never seen one like sundays win, i was probly like 2, last time it happened,( 1978?)

  44. Broncos Born & Raised says:

These are probably the most glowing remarks Elway has made about Tebow yet. Maybe he’s clsoer to being sold on Tebow than we thought:

Bottom line, John Elway said this morning: the Broncos won. No matter that Tim Tebow threw eight passes, he said.

Speaking during his weekly radio segment on 102.3 The Ticket with Vic and Gary, Elway said repeatedly that the Broncos only threw eight passes in yesterday’s 17-10 win over Kansas City because it was what “the game dictated.”

“You can always go back and question, ‘We could’ve done this,’ or, ‘We could’ve done that,’ but we won the game,” said Elway, the team’s executive vice president of football operations.

“As the season continues to go,” Elway added later, “the game is going to dictate whether we throw the ball or we run the ball. Yesterday, we were dictating what we wanted to do.”

Besides, Elway said, “We’ve proved that you can win a football game by running it 55 times and throwing eight times.”

But don’t expect the same type of extraordinary unbalance as the season wears on. Elway said Tebow will be throwing more.

“Tim’s going to have to throw the ball the rest of the year, there’s no question,” Elway said. “We want Tim to be able to throw from the pocket, (but) we’re not trying to make him a pocket passer.”

So how did he judge Tebow’s performance?

“The bottom line is quarterback rating is tied to wins,” Elway said on 102.3 The Ticket. “Since he’s started, we’re 3-1. I think things are going the right direction.”

Tebow only completed two passes, but one was a 56-yard strike to Eric Decker that gave the Broncos a 17-7 lead with 6:44 to play.

“He made a great throw the clinch the game,” Elway said. “To me, that’s locking up a football game, that’s winning the game. That pass won the football game.

“We know Tim Tebow can make those clutch throws like that. … You can’t throw a better pass than Tim Tebow made in that situation.”

jets 19 broncos 13. I think Rex will have a game plan to slow down the running game. No Show is out and MaGahee is banged up. I hope miller and doom eat up sancheese

  46. Pakaloloman says:

welcom fellow BRONCO BROTHER, some one with ability and intelegence is on it, your in the right spot for anything Broncos

  47. baylinorcrush says:

Pretty much always make my mind up about the schedule when it first comes out after the draft, that way I don’t let my pro Broncos emotions get to me and make me see or hope things that aren’t there, and the memory of how teams were the previous year and how they did in the draft and FA is fresher too that way, two years ago I had the 8-8 pegged dead on but last year I was way off with 9-7. Gotta catch some zzzzzz’s, always get up bright and early.

  48. Louisianabroncofan says:

Our d will eat up Sanchez and the jets o. Hey 60, in the NFL receivers are very rarely wide open or even kinda open. The slightest separation and a tiny window are considered open in this league & that’s why you hafta be very accurate to be a good NFL qb.
    Broncos 14
    Jets 10

  49. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Hard to say mainbroncos60. I think’s part, recievers, part Tebow, part shceme. We have young players in a new scheme and Tebow will be the first to tell you he has a lot to work throwing the ball. I don’t think it’s 100% one person’s fault though.
