Broncos Blog Scoring Contest: Week 9

October 29th, 2012 - 11:32am by Gray Caldwell

There were a whole lot of good guesses before last Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Quick refresher — the Broncos defeated the Saints 34-14.

In first place with a prediction of 32-14 was Jessie, who takes home seven points.

Three players were just six points off from the actual score — Andyboy31, Wolfedom, BoyXjslv — who take home second-place points.

For the record, a handful of bloggers submitted multiple predictions. Please don’t do that going forward, but in the event it happens, only the first prediction submitted will be accepted.

350legend was seven points off, and takes home third place honors.

Predictions for next week’s game in Cincinnati will be accepted starting at noon MDT tomorrow, and can be submitted here.

  1. DaddyBronc says:

Congratulations to the winning guesses –

So what is going on with the blog?

71 posts during the game? Was last seasons, 400 – 1400 posts during a game, an anomaly???

  2. baylinorcrush says:

They were blogging on the Jets blog about Tebow’s punt assignment.

  3. DaddyBronc says:

I’m feeling like a winner in the contest even though I wasn’t close enough to get points. I guessed 32-20 Broncos. First time ever that I wasn’t ‘burned by Brees’.

  4. DaddyBronc says:

I’m thinking Ryan went after Tebow to ‘park’ him. A little revenge treatment.

Tebow is not conventional, but he deserves better than this.

  5. RH709 says:

Yes it was. That was the Tebowites (I am not hating on him or them, just stating that they exist).

It’s easier to conplain then compliment so there is a whole lot less to blog about.

Looks like Fox and McCoy let Manning be Manning from the get go this week. Good on them as it is not always easy to relenquish. I love the sideline shots where Manning has the entire offense huddled around and he is teaching them and rallying them.

WW was an absolute freak last night. Hope that wasn’t just a halloween costume cause it was unreal. McGahee (McBeastlee) just pounds the rock. He always seems to fall forward for 2 to 3 yards even after he is completely wrapped up. Sometimes DMT looks so relaxed cause his size and speed advantage ( I mean this in a good way). It’s almost like…route…catch…stiff arm…first down…yawn. Rinse and repeat. As much as it pains me to admit it, thank you Josh McDaniels for choosing DMT over Dez Bryant.

I wrote some things about last years draft class a few blogs back. This is what I said on October 25, 2012, “Virgil Green doesn’t light up highlight reals but he is on the team and contributing, can’t ask for too much more out of the 7th round. Green gets a C+.” Well Green made a fool of me by lighting up a highlight real with some freakish athletism for a 6’4″ 250 pound may. Did he do hurdles in HS or something?!? I’ll gladly eat crow. I stand by my C+ because it hasn’t been routine yet but if this continues then Green becomes one hell of a 7th round steel. Thank you John Elway.

Many of us never thought much of the Brookings or Leonard signings this offseason. Hell, we didn’t even see how they made the team. I’ll take a second helping of crow and I’ll take it with a smile. Thank you John Elway (TYJE).

  6. RH709 says:

I swear the Jets need to line Tebow up everywhere. Put him as a down lineman and call him eligable. In all seriousness though, Tebow is a gifted athlete, get him the ball in space and watch him truck some fools. RB, TE, WR, I don’t care. Get him the ball. When he actually becomes a threat then things open up elsewhere.

This is why Ryan coaches defense.

  7. RH709 says:

This is what Wiki said about Green…At the 2011 NFL Combine he was the top tight end performer in the broad jump and vertical jump categories.

Guess we learned the man can leap if we missed it in the scouting report. :)

  8. wolfedom says:

I think the blog is too busy watching the game to be posting. Our team played very well and I even got some points. What a great day for Bronco football. I was just thinking about the 100 million dollar contracts and wondered. Mario Williams, Mike Vick, or Peyton Manning, who do you want? I am happy with our choice.

  9. marshisboss says:

So with Joe Mays out for the season does DJ play in the middle when he comes back because there is no way WW should be benched

  10. RH709 says:

If you are going to compare contracts then compare the guaranteed portions. and yes, Id take Manning.

D.J. might backup at both Mike and Will but Woodyard and Brookings will start.

  11. alaskanbronco06 says:

NFL Trade deadline is tomorrow. I wonder if they will get anymore trades since that is why they moved it back.

  12. strandoftds82 says:

The NFL trade deadline has been pushed back 2 days to thursday due to hurricane Sandy.

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

Some players that are on the block.

DeAngelo Williams, Stephen Jackson, Dwayne Bowe, Braylon Edwards, Steve Smith and LeGarrette Blount.

Jags have contacted Jets for Tebow and the Browns for McCoy. According to Ryan they are going to use Tebow more and not trade him.

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

Thanks stand. I just saw that.

  15. horsepower1 says:

As a Bronco fan, Manning is the better Bronco QB for this team now!!!!!! (Love Tebow and wish him succees…just not against the Broncos) What a move by Elway getting this done with not only Manning but they were very effective in this years draft. The young players are contributing and I honestly thought it would take awhile for this team to start gelling not only on Offense but Defense as well. We are getting better with each game and if healthy could be fighting for home field advantage. I guess you can’t underestimate the work ethic and smarts that we have brought to this organization. I see nothing but good things to come for many years. Lets make this organization the best in football!!!

    Caramelloo: Buck Dat!! LMAO!!!!!

Mays out: I was hard on him at LB but Love the attitude this guy brings to the game. Get well soon Mays!!!

DJ Williams has hurt this team with the off the field issues he could make people have a short memory by keeping his nose clean and contributing immediately. A Super Bowl could erase alot of those troubles.

Look out NFL….the Horsepower has just been tuned up!! GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. strandoftds82 says:

Ya AB, it was just announced a short time ago.

  17. strandoftds82 says:

I’d be in for Blunt, but he’s got attitude problems in the past.

  18. strandoftds82 says:

I think we need just one big solid RB for insurance. IMO

  19. strandoftds82 says:

DJ comes back after one more game. It makes you wonder since Mays is out for the season now. I bet we sign Mike Mohamid LB from our PS for this game.

  20. RH709 says:

Agreed Strand. They will sign Mohamed for one game for sure.

  21. oldsouthstander says:

A great win over an excellent offensive team. The D was fanbtstic and shut down an elite QB. The O looked great, but, here’s the caveat, the Saint’s D is what it is, 30th. Two 90+ yard TD possessions says a lot as to just how futile the Saint’s D is. Hope the Broncos O doesn’t get big headed. But with PFM coaching the O after ever score and, assumedly, showing them how they could have done better, the chances are pretty slim.

    ALL HAIL THE NECK!!!!

    DON’T WRECK THE NECK!!!!!

  22. RH709 says:

As much as I like what the Bronco’s defense did, I do not think it’s the norm for this team just yet. The luxury of playing the Saints is that thier offense is already one dimensional. Denver was able to run a dime or nickle package the whole game and not fear the running game.

Things are coming together though and it’s very encouraging. Nate Irving and Danny Trevathan stepped up well. I forget who I talked to on here but we discussed the development of Trevathan as a top cover LB. We were hoping that Trevathan could be the answer to stopping some of the NFL’s great TEs. Danny did pretty well against an injured Graham.

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand if we go after a RB I think it would be Williams because Fox loved him when he was with the Panthers and really knows him.

  24. strandoftds82 says:

I agree on that part, but very expensive.

  25. tlcat06 says:

I am so mad we didn’t let Prater try that ridiculously long field goal. He would’ve made history. I know it.

  26. Bronconasty says:

when DJ comes back, i think they will use him as a rotational player and work him into a role. he could probaly come in on Nickel or Dime situations
