Broncos Blog Scoring Contest: Week 10

November 9th, 2012 - 9:50am by Gray Caldwell

Thanks for your comments, everyone. Let’s keep this thing going!

A lot of great guesses this week, and apparently great minds think alike, because five people guessed 31-20 and six went with 31-17.

But for a refresher, the Broncos defeated the Bengals in Week 9 by a score of 31-23, so one blogger stood alone at the top of the leaderboard this week — Thomas P, who predicted a final score of 31-21.

In second place were Dbroncos82, strandoftds82, still1972, footballMANIAC and The Dane. Third-place points go to TicoBroncoFan, Miller Time 58, broncsbomber66, BroncoBoogie, Ginandy2009 and baylinorcrush.

Predictions for this week’s game in Carolina are already being accepted, and will be up until kickoff on Sunday. They can be submitted here.

    from PFF:
Denver’s linebackers will be largely responsible for holding the Panthers’ running backs in check. Von Miller might be best known for his pass rushing skills, but his ability to crash to the ball carrier is equally impressive. He has accrued 16 stops in the run game this year, compared with just a single missed tackle. Fellow outside linebacker Wesley Woodyard has recorded a defensive stop in the run game on 12.1% of his running plays, good for third among 4-3 OLBs. Filling in for the injured Joe Mays has been the duty of rookie Danny Trevathan and veteran Keith Brooking. While they haven’t been sensational, neither has embarrassed himself either, with just a single missed tackle between the pair on their combined 326 snaps.

    and a little more…

The incredible season of Ryan Clady has received plenty of coverage, but few have talked about his sophomore teammate on the other side of the line. Orlando Franklin has benefitted from ‘The Peyton Manning Effect’ as well, surrendering just two sacks, two hits, and seven hurries on the season. Though it’s not the league-leading 98.5 mark of Clady, Franklin’s Pass Blocking Efficiency of 97.1 is still good for seventh among tackles. Unfortunately for Franklin, he’ll have to contend with Charles Johnson, Carolina’s most dangerous pass rusher. In his past two games, Johnson has tallied five sacks and 13 pressures, propelling him to the top of the 4-3 DE Pass Rushing Productivity Charts with a score of 14.7. This matchup could be the most important factor in limiting Manning’s impact on the game, so look for Denver to roll backs or tight ends to his side if Franklin starts to struggle.

A big thanks to you Gray! I like this contest better. No disrespect to the other one, but I’ve been playing the other contest set up by Bay for 3 years now. Much better I think.

  6. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Quick Question?

    54 – 48 = 6 points difference from the actual game score

    55 – 54 = 1 point difference from the actual game score

How does it make any sense at all to reward the person that is 6 points off the total simply because they had half the score correct? six points off is six points off? (if giving points to the people farthest from the ‘actual’ game score isn’t remedial i’m not sure what qualifies? accept claiming integrity is most important to you then in the same breath discounting what Tebow brought in the way of intangibles?!?)

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

I will enjoy the logic behing this answer I’m quite sure!!! Thank you for your time Gray, and everyone does really enjoy what you do here!!

I’m off for the day, going to the VNEA Western National Pool Tournamen in Cheyennet! Should be great fun!!!

    B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS!!!

  8. baylinorcrush says:

I knew you never figured out how my contest worked turtle, hence you messed it up without really knowing. It’s how many points you are off each score, if you had 31 for the Broncos you are dead on and if you had 17 for the Bengals you were 6 points off, hence you are 6 points off overall. The total amount of points scored by the two teams has absolutely zero to do with anything.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

In your version I could of said Broncos win 54-0 and would of won. That’s what’s bogus about it, plain and simple.

  10. Bronco_Turtle says:

Then it should be called the individual team score pick’em… not the Game Score Contest, that’s not a tough distinction to make…. I know it’s just words, but words believe it or not have meaning!!!

So, if the Game Score has nothing to do with ‘Total Points’ then that’s really bogus… I do enjoy the individual team score version though, seems cute and fun!

  11. baylinorcrush says:

At last you get it! Fantastic!

  12. Bronco_Turtle says:

Wish I could say the same for you BAY!

  13. baylinorcrush says:

Can I take it back? LOL.

  14. strandoftds82 says:

Turtle, The two contests aren’t much alike. In the older version which I like I’m in 2nd place, in yours I’m down more than a few, a big difference I think. Last year and the year before I did badly but still enjoyed the contest a lot. Baylinocrush`s version is easy and simple to go by. Just saying and no disrespect.

  15. Bronco_Turtle says:

    You could try

  16. strandoftds82 says:

    Another new blog.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

Well done strand, but I’m glad you only got 5 and I got me 3 (unexpected), keeping it close, stay tuned….

  18. Bronco_Turtle says:

No worries Strand! the only reason you aren’t on top in mine is the WOS! Which really does add a second dynamic for being the most wrong! (thanks for the WOS Bay, I’m not shallow and don’t mind giving appropriate props!)

  19. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, that part you got right and I used to really love it, giving it to the fools, LOL.

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

I wish you weren’t so Shallow and Flaky Bay, I know we could have some great conversations!!!

  21. baylinorcrush says:

There you go again, the ranch hand has got it all figured out….

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

Nope… but I do enjoy learning!!! I respect your football knowledge, but despise your Penultimate View that you have of yourself… I learn new things everyday, and that’s what makes life fun buddy!

  23. strandoftds82 says:

Like the ole saying goes, (you can’t change a leopards spots). I’m a creature of habit too. HaHa!!

  24. baylinorcrush says:

You stole my line, just said “I learn something new everyday” when in a previous blog I asked what The Duke on NFL footballs meant and Stuart gave me the answer.

  25. Bronco_Turtle says:

Learning new things is actually the theme of my main Book Series. ‘The essential Freddie Filo’… See, we do have alot in common, I finished the first in the series in 2008, and I’m on the 4th installment

  26. Bronco_Turtle says:

So remember please that Freddie says… ‘If you think, you can change the world…’ and

‘Anything in life that can be done for money can be done for free, it is simply a matter of choice for all parties involved…’

Don’t be a slave to the dollar, and never let them take away your ability to think for yourself!!!
