Broncos Blog Scoring Contest: Final Standings

January 25th, 2013 - 10:13am by Gray Caldwell

Well, bloggers, the season has come to a close. And so has the scoring contest.

Congratulations to this year’s champion — The Dane.

Tied for second place thanks to Week 17 results were Wolfedom and baylinorcrush.

In third were Dbroncos82, strandoftds82 and Jake.

As promised, there will be prizes for first, second and third place. I aplogize for the delay in posting — wanted to make sure we got the prizes locked up.

The Dane will receive a Broncos helmet autographed by linebacker Von Miller. Wolfedom and baylinorcrush will each receive an authentic Peyton Manning jersey. Dbroncos82, strandoftds82 and Jake will all three receive a Broncos prize pack, including apparel, a cheerleader calendar and other memorabilia.

In checking the results from Week 17 (I apologize for not publishing those earlier) and the Divisional Round, I discovered something unfortunate — apparently somehow the ability to predict scores was cut off on Jan. 1. That was an error on our part, and resulted in no predictions for the playoffs.

I sincerely apologize, and that will be sorted out for next year.

Let’s get to the Week 17 results.

In the regular-season finale, the Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 38-3. Daddybronc took home first place points with his prediction of 38-9, raindodger and baylinorcrush came in second place and Wolfedom and Keith Kahler came in third.

Without further ado, we’ll get to the full, final standings. Once again, congratulations to this season’s champ, The Dane, and the other winners.

    TGIF!!

  2. alaskanbronco06 says:

We have bigger needs than a DB and RB with our early picks this year imo.

  3. alaskanbronco06 says:

We did go after Asante we were talking with them for a trade. Just didnt get it done.

DT and MLB are our two biggest needs.

  4. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yea we were….We were one of the most talked about teams when it came to Samuels. He wouldnt restructure his deal so we eventually pulled out. The contract issue may very well be what takes us out of the Revis talk.

  5. strandoftds82 says:

I don’t want Revis. He’s not a team player. It wouldn’t be a good fit with him here. IMO

  6. 1nOnlyTRB says:

yea , looks like there is genuine interest in revis … who by the wa makes like 14 mil a year. No thanks. Never liked the guy. Dont think he is as good as they say. He got a massive ego. Too expensive, and just plain annoys me. But if we get him, it is what it is. We are competitors now. It isnt like when Fox took over … people will actually want to come here now.

I don’t see denver drafting any RBs in the first 3 rounds … we just did last year … but we sure could use a FA back. I like lagerette blount. Been well behaved since entering the league and with Moreno and hillman … we don’t need him to learn to block or catch. Just get the tough yards.

Revis is coming of ACL injury … his price will drop.

    TRB

  7. strandoftds82 says:

Every year, all Revis does is want a new contract. He’s NEVER happy. He’ll be a cancer what ever team he goes to.

  8. alaskanbronco06 says:

I dont want Revis either but we are really really interested in him. 14 mil on a one year deal right now. So would need a new contract and last I heard he wanted around 17 mill. Dont want him as all. Hate the interest.

Issue with Blount is he drops the rock a lot.

  9. alaskanbronco06 says:

I wouldnt want Nhamdi. I personally never thought he was/is as good as everyone says/thinks he is.

  10. strandoftds82 says:

Heck, I’d rather want to go after Aqib Talib than Revis.

  11. strandoftds82 says:

And Talib is a FA. We wouldn’t have to give up the farm. Can’t go wrong there. LOL

  12. alaskanbronco06 says:

Was that to me? I dont think Revis is as good as people think he is either. He gets away with a lot and many WR say he is a very dirty player.

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

I dont want Talib either. To many off field issues. Hes good on the field though.

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

I bring up Revis because we are really interested in him. Not that I want him. I said earlier that I dont want him. And no Talib and Nhamdi arnt better than Revis. I dont want any of the three of them. And Nhamdi is also selfish.

  15. strandoftds82 says:

Bro, I was listening to Blood of the Nations today by Accept! I still enjoy that CD bro. Love the tune Shades of Death!

  16. strandoftds82 says:

Thats what I’m saying, give Talib a chance I think.

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

Not trying to bro. Just saying I dont want any of the three. Talib has been given second chances and blew them. He hasnt been in trouble in NE so maybe our locker room can keep him that way. Just personally dont like that risk.

  18. strandoftds82 says:

My favorite priest CD is Unleashed in the East!

  19. alaskanbronco06 says:

Thats kinda how I hope our draft goes. DT MLB RB then Swope.

  20. strandoftds82 says:

Jenkins for the BEEF in 1st round! He’s a monster DT!

  21. tlcat06 says:

How about we stuck with what we have and draft another stud at CB? Bolden told Elway he’s taking someone’s job next year.

  22. strandoftds82 says:

What type of WR is he? We need a speedy WR in the slot.

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand Swope is a cross of Welker and Stokes. Has amazing hands and will go up and get the ball no matter how hard hes going to get hit.

  24. strandoftds82 says:

If we go DE draft Margus Hunt! He’s unstoppable!

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

I want to get help at CB but not a big name guy. A solid known guy kinda like we did with Porter last year.

  26. strandoftds82 says:

I like Swope already then. I’m excited about him then. I’m gonna look at some footage of him later, i’m curious now. LOL

  27. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Wow awesome prizes I was in the top 5 last year and would have been in 3rd place if I didn’t post my last score after midnight. lol

This year I didn’t even participate — kicking myself now — an autographed helmet by VON MILLER! Nice. And my good friend bay getting a PFM jersey, well deserved for the founder of this competition.

Anyway, on the Revis acquisition i’d have to say umm NO. Us fans know exactly what Broncos players are as far as character and ethic and most, if not all of us can feel that this guy is not Broncos material.

    -Royalty

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

I am eh on Hunt. He “broke” out in the Hawaii bowl but he was playing opposite a true freshman who didnt have much experience playing. Dont get me wrong he had an amazing game and is rocking the senior bowl but everyone calling him so amazing based off his bowl game is kinda ridiculous to me.

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

    LOL Strand!!!

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

Stokes is up there in years and Swope can be a good replacement for him when he retires. Adding him to Decker and Thomas would be a great WR trio for years IMO

  31. strandoftds82 says:

Nice! Gotta bring Stokely back for another year. He and Swope can feed off of each other. I like it! LOL

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yes there are exceptions to that. But there have also been players who have risen up boards in situations like Hunts and gone on to have a short bad NFL career. Hes a big guy and love his strength. And really do think Fox and JDR would be able to coach him up. Just the fact of why he has risen so fast is a little worrisome to me.

  33. strandoftds82 says:

I’ve seen Swope in the 3rd round in some mocks.

  34. strandoftds82 says:

    Hunt is moving up fast!

  35. alaskanbronco06 says:

I would trade up into late 3rd early 4th to get him. He will likely rise some between now and the draft though.

Another two years would be great. Still dont think that means we shouldnt get Swope who can learn from the guy he is being compared to the most.

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

I have seen him around 3rd and 4th round. Rarely in the 5th. I think he may end up being a early 3rd round pick. In which case we should trade up to early 3rd to get him.

  37. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

AAAAHHHHH WE SHOULD BE SUPER BOWL CHAMPS!!!!!!! sorry… was just watching press conferences….

  38. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

    Whats up b-f-e

  39. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Well I guess everybody is asleep later…

  40. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

I thought you left too yeah me too TGIF!!

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

Sorry B-f-e Had to take care of the kiddos. Our sack total was great! I think if we can get a better DT at pushing the pocket it would go even higher.

  42. wolfedom says:

Hi Tbronco, I like the way you think. I remember last year we were screaming for the Beef same as now . Jenkins is another Wilfork and will plug up the inside for sure. Trade Moreno, Ball and invest in a bruising Rb who is capable of making it through the year.

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

Warren is a FA. But I have mentioned Wolfe kicked inside and getting a DE instead.

  44. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Revis very well might be a bronco … whether we like it or not. Maybe our new thing each season will be big name acquisitions. I know many arent fans of the idea … myself included. All people are saying is we are strong candidates..

RB has been mentioned alot. I don’t want to use a high pick on one but if I had to pick
Christine Michaels RB Texas A&M. A bit of a maturity concern but kid is talented and slated to go in the third but much like Doug Martin last year … im sure his stock will rise. He was in the dog house his senior season so he is kind of under the radar but the skills are there. Got power, top speed, quickness and burst. Just a thought … Aparently he is already impressing in senior bowl. Our last aggie is doing us proud lol

If there is one thing i know we arent getting in the first round is beef at DT … i think fox has made it very clear to all fans, analysts and mockers alike that he doesn’t pay them no mind lol. Not unless beef at DT is the best available player at the time. We will see. Still holding out for safety help, also from Texas. Kenny Vaccaro (second choice is Eric Ried from LSU).

    TRB

  45. 1nOnlyTRB says:

And for those looking for a powerful durable back in the draft. Mid round.

    Le’Veon Bell 6’2 240 MSU

NFL comparison would be legerette blount. If you watch him run you will know why … runs with so much power but much like Blount, loves to jump over people for a big man lol. I suppose big men learn to use the hurdle alot because most defenders dont wanna tackle them head on lol

Was thinking exactly along those lines! That Peyton jersey is like the fruit of my labor since the scoring contest is my baby, my creation. And it’s an AUTHENTIC! All I have ever owned are replicas, what a perfect development to a great Bronco part of my life…. Guess what I will be wearing for each game next season at the sportsbar? LOVING IT!!!

And Royalty, good to see you back on here, and yeah I remember quite well, always riding that midnight deadline by a thread and I told you one time you may get burned and you did, LOL.

  47. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, my file on this contest alone is a full one inch thick, LOL, told you it was work!

  48. baylinorcrush says:

And some say it’s all luck, LOL!

  49. baylinorcrush says:

No one knows how much time I really put in researching all the variables each week to guess the scores, it can be tiresome and head spinning but it’s obviously all worth it in the end. Just like anything, hard work usually pays off.

  50. baylinorcrush says:

Talking about work, I’m in the middle of hand washing about 35 vinyl albums right now, and it pays off big time if you are into getting the best sound possible, amazing really, if you love vinyl and have never cleaned your albums, even brand new ones, learn about it, get you the necessary stuff, and you won’t regret it ever.
