Broncos Blog Scoring Contest: Final Standings

January 25th, 2013 - 10:13am by Gray Caldwell

Well, bloggers, the season has come to a close. And so has the scoring contest.

Congratulations to this year’s champion — The Dane.

Tied for second place thanks to Week 17 results were Wolfedom and baylinorcrush.

In third were Dbroncos82, strandoftds82 and Jake.

As promised, there will be prizes for first, second and third place. I aplogize for the delay in posting — wanted to make sure we got the prizes locked up.

The Dane will receive a Broncos helmet autographed by linebacker Von Miller. Wolfedom and baylinorcrush will each receive an authentic Peyton Manning jersey. Dbroncos82, strandoftds82 and Jake will all three receive a Broncos prize pack, including apparel, a cheerleader calendar and other memorabilia.

In checking the results from Week 17 (I apologize for not publishing those earlier) and the Divisional Round, I discovered something unfortunate — apparently somehow the ability to predict scores was cut off on Jan. 1. That was an error on our part, and resulted in no predictions for the playoffs.

I sincerely apologize, and that will be sorted out for next year.

Let’s get to the Week 17 results.

In the regular-season finale, the Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 38-3. Daddybronc took home first place points with his prediction of 38-9, raindodger and baylinorcrush came in second place and Wolfedom and Keith Kahler came in third.

Without further ado, we’ll get to the full, final standings. Once again, congratulations to this season’s champ, The Dane, and the other winners.

Wow very cool! Congrats to you all! Espeially Dane a Von Miller autographed helmet. SWEET

  2. alaskanbronco06 says:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000130789/article/darrelle-revis-freeagency-trade-talk-getting-fired-up

Another Revis trade article. Revis is good as gone according to the owner. NE is out of it as NYJ wont hand them a guaranteed division apparently.

I dont think Revis should be included in biggest FA acquires. As he isnt a FA. Biggest trades possibly yes.

  3. RH709 says:

WOW. Dane you are getting one sweet price. That rocks.

  4. sndvl says:

They are all sweet prizes! Congrats to all…

  5. brian_schneider says:

Ok Dane…give me back my Delorean.

  6. sndvl says:

As for Revis. I don’t see him going to Buffalo either. Seattle may be a long shot too. Unless they added one of their own corners in the deal.

GB & SF seem the likeliest. I won’t even mention us, because I don’t believe Mr. Elway will be willing to pony up the steep asking price the Jets will be asking/receiving.
I’m pretty certain the deal will include a player and draft picks similar to the Cutler deal.

  7. alaskanbronco06 says:

I can see GB big time. They took a chane on Woodson when he was a trouble maker. Wouldnt be surprised if they took the shot again.

  8. 1nOnlyTRB says:

The dane was the undisputed leader … congrats. Congrats all. Sweet prizes. makes me wish i partook this year but i was barely on the blogs … would kill for a VM helmet lol

Never been a fan of trading DJ but at 30 and with the emmergence of woodyard, it may be time. There was no way i was willing to let him go when we didn’t have VM or this year when weakside was still a question. I believe he can be effective at MLB for one more season. We cannot address everything in one draft. So maybe MLB next time. Minus his DUI and Suspension, he does everything else we ask him to do. Produces, takes pay cuts if needed, plays any position. Never says anything stupid. His time has just run out here unfortunately it would seem

Revis … ha! … that is all. Man is a punk in the tackle game and has and excuse everytime he gets beat. Which is often. I like how champ blows it in one game and all of a sudden he isn’t good anymore. Granted it was a big game on a big stage. Only the people who watch playoff game and no other broncos games would say silly things. If anything, after champ got beat by pure speed not coverage issues, the DC should have adapted, no matter if champ thought he was capable of covering one on one

Only way I welcome a New RB to denver is if we are trashing McGahee. Another body behind Gahee, Moreno and possibly hillman will not be a quality body. Personally i wish to say good by to Ball. I just don’t see Gahee playing the back up. Wish we had just gotten Doug Martin last year like i campaigned. Durability speed and power. smh. Either way my opinion is we don’t need more bodies at RB … we need quality and to shed the ones not good enough or past their prime.

    TRB

  9. wolfedom says:

Yahoo!!! Congrats to the Dane , he ran away with the contest and deserves the top prize. I couldn’t be happier and bet Bay is as well. I can’t wait to go to Denver this year for spring training and attempt to have Peyton sign it for me. Congrats to all

  10. wolfedom says:

I was with you on Martin all year but that didn’t happen and now we still need a good back. I think we try and trade Knowshon while he may have some value and send Ball with him. I’m not up on the upcoming RBs at the draft so can’t predict. I am pushing for the big, beefy DT this year and I like Jenkins from Georgia. Broncos haven’t called me yet for my opinion though. As far as Champ, are you kidding me? There is none better and not only on the field but in the locker room as well.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

    Thanks Gray, well done!

Thanks for the Peyton jersey, if I could I would like to have the orange version, thank you.

And as always my motto is never ever give up! On the last week I moved up from like 8th to a tie for runner up, absolutely awesome finish. In the 4 year life of the contest I have one title and three runner ups, that’s going to be so hard to keep up and I honestly had serious doubts about this year since I did not run it.

Anyhow congrats to the new champ The Dane and everyone else who managed to get some points, because many bloggers never did, that’s how tough this particular contest is.

  12. RH709 says:

We don’t need a back. Missing McGahee and Moreno were not the reasons we lost against Baltimore. Sure it didn’t help, but we do not need another back.

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

Durability. WE dont have a durable back. McGahee and Moreno cant stay healthy. That has been obvious.

  14. RH709 says:

The health of any player often has a lot to do with luck unless we are talking about a chronic or recurring injury. In this case, we aren’t.

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yes it is a lot to do with luck. Luck is against Moreno and McGahee in staying healthy as they havnt been able to.

  16. Royalbroncofan1 says:

McGahee’s body is pretty beat up after all the years and injuires he’s endured. A tribute to him really as he blew out his knee at the Unv of Miami, and recovered to have an NFL career. Don’t believe he has the durabilty to last another full season, so Broncos will need an RB this year, whether it’s in the draft or F/A. jmo

  17. wolfedom says:

McGahee is a true warrior whose time as the main running back may have passed. Moreno hasn’t been there for a whole season and although its maybe bad luck it is what it is. He is just too fragile. Hillman may prove to be a quality back but has issues with blocking and isn’t able to run between the tackles, so this is an area we need to address.

  18. killerkod says:

    Hey Gang……

It’s been a while since I’ve posted……..I’m actually still stinging badly from that horrible way we went out. I stil can’t believe how badly we blew that game. I’m sure it’ been over analyzed so I won’t go there. All I can say is I hope history repeats itself like it did the year after Jacksonville embarrased our team at home.

Congrats to all the winners……….now those are some seriously sweet prizes! Jealous! Glad we got the blog contest going officially! Finishing 12th is admirable! haha Like bay sais, getting any points at all isn’t the easiest task. Looking forward to next season’s version.

So I guess now all our attention starts to shift to the draft. Where should our focus be?

  19. alaskanbronco06 says:

How goes it Kod? IMO we should look at DT and MLB without question. And Ryan Swope….lol

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Congrats Dane!!!

    Thanks Gray!

  21. RH709 says:

That I will get on board with AB.

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

    What up Guys!

    OFFSEASON SUCKS!!!!

  23. killerkod says:

Yeah, I hear ya……….Brooking was average at best. And we sorely need more push up the middle so a DT would be great too. And after seeing Champ struggle so badly against the Ravens……I do think it’s time for him to move to safety……it’s just a matter of when he will admit he can’t keep up with the speed guys anymore. I think he could be a pick machine at safety.

  24. Bronco_Turtle says:

There is no reason Champ has to stay as the #1 Corner really is there? I mean, if he doesn’t want to move to Safety he may have to take a demotion to #2 corner and take the lesser of the opposing O’s Wideouts…

  25. killerkod says:

I def think Carter and Harris have such a huge upside and next year, with Champ at safety, we could have a shut-down secondary. But either way, I agree with ya turtle, I don’t think Champ should be the number 1 corner next year.

  26. RH709 says:

I know a lot of you want Jenkins cause he is the big beef. I am very high on Jesse Williams from Bama. I just don’t think we need a guy modeled after Vince Wilfork. I see us needing a guy more like Haloti Ngata. I want a guy who can one gap or two gap and can 0T, 1T, or 2T all with equal ability.

  27. wolfedom says:

RH, I know where you are coming from but have to disagree a little because of the players we have now. I think Wolfe can fill the positions you discuss and having a guy like Wilfork enables him to accomplish more in the pass rushing attack. jmho

  28. Bronco_Turtle says:

RH Willfork can do any of those things!

Willfork or Ngata… couldn’t go wrong if we found a guy that is 90% of either one of those two…

Is it time for another “Bring us Some Beef” Petition?

  29. wolfedom says:

That’s it Turtle!! We need the beef.

  30. Bronco_Turtle says:

    *** BRONCO BEEF 2013 ***

    BRING US SOME BEEF!!!!

    Bronco_Turtle

*** Cut/Paste and add your name if you too want some BEEF in D-Town ***

  31. Banned_inc says:

For god sakes bring us some beef fo

  32. RH709 says:

I like what Wolfe currently does which is play 5T on running downs and then jumps over to play a 3T on passing downs while Miller edge rushes. I want a guy who can play nose tackle if need be but can also have more of an interior pass rushing rule if asked.

I guess, in the end, I would be fine with Jenkins. I just think he doesn’t provide the versatility.

  33. brian_schneider says:

What was the deal with Caldwell, I thought he’d have a bigger impact/role this season…

  34. RH709 says:

Manning mostly runs 3 WR sets and you gotta be damn good to beat out Thomas, Deck and Stokes.

  35. brian_schneider says:

I remember seeing Willis get some passes his way. I remember hearing how Caldwell was going to help our WR core…Is Caldwell not that good of a WR?

  36. RH709 says:

“Andre is a speed wide receiver who was very productive in the first part of his career with Cincinnati,” Elway said. “He will add quality depth and competition to our roster, and we are happy to have him.”

  37. since1972 says:

RH709: Have a good time in Oakland kinda nice being a mx fan carries through the Broncos offseason. Makes the time go by quickly. Go Poto !!

  38. tlcat06 says:

All you winners, I’m super jealous! Wow!!!!!!

  39. Bronco_Turtle says:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000130779/article/lions-jahvid-best-unlikely-to-play-football-again

This will be a more and more common story in the near future… Best was exciting for sure

  40. lonewolf7 says:

Great job The Dane! You totally blew us away. Congrats to all for playing and especially to those who get prizes. Bay, you have a heck of a way year after year of doing so good in these contests. Now you have a sweet jersey to show for it. Have fun!

    Go Broncos!!!

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

Broncos Hakws and Niners have become the early favorites for Revis.

  42. strandoftds82 says:

Way Cool! Thanks Gray! And thanks for putting in all of the hard work you put in in doing all of this! Kudos to ya!

  43. strandoftds82 says:

A big congrats to The Dane in scoring all of those points! Nice job bro! Great prize and well deserved!

  44. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Loved best loved him alot … had some great reggie bush type college highlights. Man woulda been awesome. Wasn’t meant to be i guess. His college injury was pretty bad and to risk it after that was worth it but not anymore …u proved u were first round talent and hopefully u made some money. Sorry to see him go. Surprised this isn’t an austin collie story instead.

Funny thing about the beef … its been called for for so long its crazy. I will never forget PP v Dareus lol. That was a crazy offseason … VM wasn’t really in the competition till later and he won out and so did we.

College RBs arent look too stellar this year … im sure there will be some mid round diamond in the rough …. only guy showing promise is Lacey of Alabama … the rest are just okay.

Either way, injuries happen to all players. If we want a legit durable back we are gonna have to drop McGahee and hang on to moreno and Hillman as flex guys. Trading Moreno is also an option. But injuries happen … Nature of the game

    TRB

  45. strandoftds82 says:

AB, I’m curious, where did you hear about this being Denver is interested in Revis and one of the top teams? Kinda bazaar!

  46. alaskanbronco06 says:

One article (Ill try to find it again) said Denver may offer a couple picks Mays and any combo of Williams Ayers McGahee and Moreno.

  47. alaskanbronco06 says:

The picks were a first this year or next and a 2nd round whichever year the first isnt.

  48. strandoftds82 says:

    Thanks AB!

  49. strandoftds82 says:

    tbroncof, wassup dude?!
