Broncos Blog Scoring Contest: Final Standings

January 25th, 2013 - 10:13am by Gray Caldwell

Well, bloggers, the season has come to a close. And so has the scoring contest.

Congratulations to this year’s champion — The Dane.

Tied for second place thanks to Week 17 results were Wolfedom and baylinorcrush.

In third were Dbroncos82, strandoftds82 and Jake.

As promised, there will be prizes for first, second and third place. I aplogize for the delay in posting — wanted to make sure we got the prizes locked up.

The Dane will receive a Broncos helmet autographed by linebacker Von Miller. Wolfedom and baylinorcrush will each receive an authentic Peyton Manning jersey. Dbroncos82, strandoftds82 and Jake will all three receive a Broncos prize pack, including apparel, a cheerleader calendar and other memorabilia.

In checking the results from Week 17 (I apologize for not publishing those earlier) and the Divisional Round, I discovered something unfortunate — apparently somehow the ability to predict scores was cut off on Jan. 1. That was an error on our part, and resulted in no predictions for the playoffs.

I sincerely apologize, and that will be sorted out for next year.

Let’s get to the Week 17 results.

In the regular-season finale, the Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 38-3. Daddybronc took home first place points with his prediction of 38-9, raindodger and baylinorcrush came in second place and Wolfedom and Keith Kahler came in third.

Without further ado, we’ll get to the full, final standings. Once again, congratulations to this season’s champ, The Dane, and the other winners.

  1. The Dane says:

Thanks Gray, the contest has been a lot of fun. Awesome prizes, congrats all.

  2. baylinorcrush says:

    I bet, LMAO!

  3. The Dane says:

    LOL

  4. wolfedom says:

I agree Bay and Dane, the contest has been real fun. I don’t have the victories like you,Bay, but will certainly cherish this one. Dane, what a great trophy you will receive. The contest was something I looked forward to and thank Gray and everyone for participating. I don’t think I could have ran such a contest, it would be overwhelming. Thanks again Gray!

  5. baylinorcrush says:

Enjoy your jersey, well done wolf!

  6. killerkod says:

Bay, when I mentioned the idea of trying to get the blog to run the contest, I think you said something like, “good luck with that.” lol Well, guess it just goes to show that the blog admin are interested in our ideas and that’s an awesome way to have things. Thanks Gray for putting it off and sticking pretty close to the original format bay had created.

  7. strandoftds82 says:

Congrats to ya also Bay. Nice prize! Awesome Jersey bro!

  8. strandoftds82 says:

I got me another large Broncos Schedule from a sports bar I hang out at from time to time. Its the same place I play Texas Holdem at on Tuesday nights. To bad we didn’t get to the SB. This 2013 schedule would have been even more special. Bonkers!

  9. sndvl says:

It is amazing how this contest evolved! With baylin starting it up 4 years ago, Kod spearheading the campaign to make it official and the ‘prize’ idea by me after our draft competition.

Seems right baylin earned his Jersey!!!

  10. strandoftds82 says:

For all of the hard work Bay put in the blog contest in that time frame, I’d have to agree with you Sndvl.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks guys, and I do believe I deserve it big time. Last year at the end of the season when I had to carry the contest into two more playoff games I thought I was going to die from blog work exhaustion, honestly. I had like about 75 score guesses every week, it got to be way too much, never would of done it another year…. That was partly why I figured I’d retire from the whole thing, but then I realized when I started to work less on it I enjoyed it more so I came back, but never ever to carry the same workload again, like the news every morning and the draft contest… I must have been insane, and many folks actually hated it as you all know, LOL.

  12. strandoftds82 says:

Alaska, my brother just told me that JJ Abrams got the gig to DIRECT the new STAR WARS movie. Perfect fit I think.

  13. still1972 says:

congrats to the winners in the blog score contest. I myself kinda feel like the Broncos was in it up to the last game but couldnt pull it out. oh well like we always say wait til next year.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah still1972, that was one of the first thing I noticed, you just one single point out of the prizes, bummer. Close but no cigar, just like the Broncos as you said…

  15. tbroncof says:

    Great Senior game,imo.

There were 4 guys that stuck out to me that we could use:

    Kawain Short DT Purdue
    Ziggy Ansua DE BYU
Vince Williams MLB Florida St (my favorite)
    Stepfon Taylor RB Stanford

Not saying we should draft any of them, just saying they looked good, and we need a DT/DE,MLB,and RB!

I’m sure there will be lots of names being tossed around before draft day,but here’s 4.

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

Tbronco I was just about to speak about Short. I have brought him up a few times during the season. He is a monster. Pushes the pocket good at stopping the run can take up two blockers has great awareness of where the ball carrier is going. Only downside I have heard is his motor.

Not a big fan Ezekiel Ansah. I like Williams and Taylor as well. Taylor is a back that does it all and does it well but doesnt excel at any one thing.

On another note Margus Hunt was non existent. Blew contain multiple times didnt get much pressure. Good thing though is he never gave up and continued to move to the ball carrier.

JJ Abrams hmm Not a big fan of a lot of his movies. Hope he does a great job with them.

  17. tbroncof says:

AB..just call me tbf bro(Tennessee BroncoFan).

  18. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Alright tbf lol

  19. tbroncof says:

Did you hear those guys talking about the senior WRs falling outta the 1st round of the draft,McShay said that about 4 JR WRs are coming out,so the senior WRs will get pushed out of the 1st round.I’ve been watching 2 of them all year, remember these 2 names come draft time,Cordell Patterson, and Justin Hunter, both play for Tennessee, and are freaking stud WRs!

  20. strandoftds82 says:

Those 2 names are high in some mocks TBF!

  21. strandoftds82 says:

TBF, I love the CD from Kix: Blow My Fuse!

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

TBF I like them both. Wouldnt mind them if we needed a bigger outside WR. I personally like Hunter more.

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

TBF I havnt watched a lot of them but have heard Harvin like comparisons with Patterson.

  24. strandoftds82 says:

We need a jammin Slot/WR. And WR Andre Caldwell is a gonna and will need to be replaced. There’s a eason he road the bench, something happened in he wasn’t even used whatsoever. I think Matthew Willis is gone too. We need a few WRs in my estimation.

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

Swope Strand lol or maybe even Conner Vernon he had some nice plays today receiving and run blocking.

After what I saw today Short. I watched a lot of him during the season as well.

  26. strandoftds82 says:

Tennessee, My gut tells me Eddie Lacy RB. And Foxy has a history for drafting RB’s in the first two rounds. If not, I like Barret Jones O-Line.

  27. strandoftds82 says:

So I’ll hop on the Swope ban wagon. LOL

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

TBF Jenkins is a big boy a 358. He has fallen out of the first round on many boards. His senior bowl performance will continue his drop along with this whole past week. Combine may cause him to rise again. But right now I wouldnt take him in round 1.

Honestly after going back and watching a couple Purdue games I have on my DVR I want Short more than Jenkins. Short isnt nearly as big (Hes only 310) but he does everything better than Jenkins IMO.

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

If we could get a second 3rd wound pick that would be great because the RB and WR I like the most are projected to be a 3rd round pick and likely to stay that way unless they completely steal the show at the combine.

Short is still projected a late 1st early 2nd.

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

Stepfan Taylor and Ryan Swope. You couldnt tell about Swope? Lol every chance I get im mentioning him.

I think short will be there around 28.

  31. sndvl says:

Anybody watching the Pro Bowl today?

  32. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I will be … we got a few Broncos in there … should be fun.

    TRB

  33. dwalls2 says:

Yeah, what with our coaches and many players involved, I might look in. I’m in a pretty good pool for the Harbaugh Bowl so I might peek in on it next week, too.

  34. socalbigbroncofan says:

well football season is almost over. just 2 weeks left. then straight to the off season. i will check out the pro bowl. does anyone know why von is not playing. i did see that dt is playing. good for him. he had a good season.

  35. oldsouthstander says:

Well, disguising bloggers names didn’t work, so here’s the rest of the BBBPs sans blogger names:

    Caldwell most YAC of Broncos.
    Nope.

    DMT 1000 yards, 10 TYD.
    Ablosutely!!

    Von 10+ sacks.
    How about 18.5!!!

    McG 1000 yards.
    Bummer.

    Prater record FG.
    Nope.

Champ starts all 16 games, 5 Int, 2 for TD, no TD 1 on 1.
    Wrong.

    PM starts first 15 games.
    Actually all 16.

    Von leads league in sacks.
    Almost.

Mays leads Broncos in tackles with 100+.
    Not even close.

    DMT 1523 yards, 11 TD.
    Very close.

Champ 7 Int, 2 for TD.
    Nope.

    Miller 20.5 sacks.
    Close, 18.5.

    PM 4576 yards, 43 TD, 12 Int.
    Pretty close.

    Champ leads league in Int.
    Nope.

    BBBPs yet to be determined:

    PM MVP

PM MVP and comeback player of year.
Wolfe 9.5 sacks and in DROY running.

  36. oldsouthstander says:

    FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

    HO AAAA!!!!!!

  37. strandoftds82 says:

Here are the players I believe we must re-sign and their numbered as most important.
    1. Ryan Clady LT
    2. Dan Koppen C
    3. Britton Colquitt P
    4. Brandon Stokley Slot WR
These next group of players I believe we need to re-sign because they are a sound nucleus that will have a real impact for our team. Then we can go and focus on FA and also the draft to fill some needs. And there is no axact order of importance, just go and re-sign them.
    5. Justin Bannan DT
    6. Kevin Vickerson DT
    7. Mitch Unrein D
    8. David Bruton S
    9. Tony Carter CB
Just my wish list to get started before FA starts.

  38. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Lol Bay Bays kid with a champ jersey on

They played pretty hard this year … didnt watch last year but i heard it was terrible lol

    later days, TRB
