Broncos Awarded Jones

June 24th, 2009 - 5:55pm by Zach Eisendrath

The Broncos were awarded wide receiver C.J. Jones off waivers from Kansas City, the team announced on Wednesday.

Jones is a third-year wideout who has spent time on the active roster with Cleveland in 2003 and the practice squad with the Browns in 2003-04. The move reunites the 5-11, 195-pound receiver with Head Coach Josh McDaniels, as Jones spent time on New England’s active roster in 2008 and spent the entire 2007 season on the Patriot’s practice squad.

Jones played collegiate ball at the University of Iowa. A two-year starter for the Hawkeyes, Jones totaled 72 catches for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns in 24 games. During his senior campaign, Jones set an Orange Bowl record when he returned the opening kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown against USC.

Anyone see the article with Cutler talking about Brandon?

LOL! Cutler said he’s talked to Brandon almost everyday. He said he’s been talking to him to see how’s he’s been doing through all this because he went through a similar situation.

    LOL!

Uh…Jay no you didn’t. Our coach shopped you, didn’t say anything to you, you got pi$$ed, wouldn’t return phone calls, wanted a trade, and ended up going to a team that is ran by one of the most retarded families in all of sports.

But hey, tell Brandon we all said hello! :)

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

i am not hating fan for being negative (even though i am not)
i am hating fans for the uncalled for name calling.

lynch4prez, royal beast and me: they pulled our post. i can see why they pulled what royalbeast said and my reply b/c they were not the proper things that anyone would want their mother to read. but as for lynch, i read yours before it was cut and you were ok in my book, infact i liked it somewhat.

Send Marshall to NY to self destruct-stay out of trouble-stay healthy-stay out of jail-OR STAY OUT OF DENVER!

I like to see this insurance in case we don’t end up with three Brandons. It seems that us bringing two additional receivers in- since Brandon started this drama -should do well to intimidate him and show we are prepared to go on without him, therefore showing how little leverage he has….

I wonder if his agent ever had the decency to bring up the demand/lack of demand for a troubled player such as him. Of course, it is hard for anyone who makes ‘middle class’ salary, to imagine having the nerve to say 2.2 million “isn’t enough”. I know I can’t. Like Jay, I hope him the best regardless - Boss said it best: “Once a Bronco, always a Bronco” - of course it’s a little different with each player. But Jay will always be a Bronco to an extent (always have the good times there were, to reflect on/ watch again).

I just know that McD, until now, is a winner. Not as a Denver Broncos headcoach, sure, but something caught attention of Mr. Bowlen. Yeah, as a headcoach he has to prove all, so until then, he can’t be bad or good yet.

JUST after at least one season he can be judged. And as a new headcoach of a team, not even with just one season. All we know right know and no one can deny is that McD did a great job with the Patriots. We can like or not what he’s doing with the team, but we surely don’t have a s**t of idea if it’s right or wrong.

I’m a fan too since ‘76, and this is not the worst off season. This is just another different off season, hard each time a new head coach has arrived to this team.

    Go Broncooos!

  7. headlesshorseman says:

OOOoooo! Another player from New England - yeah! why doesn’t McD just cut all the players from the Shanahan era and hire all the left overs who played or used to play with New England. Oh wait, he’s doing that now.

Exactly, your one of the only people who get it. Sure I didn’t like Cutler getting traded away and yes I’m not happy about how things are going with Brandon. But how can you judge a coach who hasn’t coached a game yet and how can you judge a team that hasn’t played a game yet. The NFL is full of possibilities. Jay Cutler could break his leg and we could go to to the superbowl this year for all we know. Anything is possible. (But I highly doubt that will happen.) lol

    texark,

there was something wrong with my post?!?!?!? I just stated a few facts. Looks like im gonna have to start toning it down a bit. Didn’t think I was that out of line but I can’t really remember all I said. Wish I saw your response.

Anywho, I don’t see this man as much of a price and we seem to be adding more and more names to the wide receiver list. this guy doesn’t sound to special but then again, The beast was drafted in the 4th round and R.Smith wasn’t drafted at all.

    ORANGE CRUSH ALL DAY!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!

Word. And I agree with you on the other blog about Orton not putting up the same numbers as Cutler. Orton is an okay QB, Cutler is gifted. Orton is system QB, not that there’s any thing wrong with that. As long as it’s a good system. (just ask matt cassel)

    Broncfalls:

Sinc you don’t seem to think that 2 years of 100+ catches + yardage is enough to get you paid more that 2 million a year then you are crazy! There are guys that don’t even start in this league and that are special teams players that get paid more than 2 million a year. I think that Marshall is worth a new contract. He’s isn’t getting suspended by the league because the charges were dropped. A pro-bowl receiver in the NFL only making 2 million dollars a year is just play crazy and I understand why he feels that way! PAY THE MAN!

  15. brian_schneider says:

I’d hardly call Marshall a “Man”, give the “kid” a new contract with a bunch of clauses and get his butt to training camp.

  16. tdforeal says:

broncofan0510: the charges were dropped by his fiancee, they haven’t been dropped by his ex-girlfriend. That is still going to court. And if it does and he gets anything, I have no doubt Marshall will serve a lengthy suspension after they reduced it last time cuz he promised it wouldnt happen again.

  17. eeerockski says:

Goodell reduced his suspension because there was evidence that he was innocent (like charges being dropped, a hand written letter from his ex saying he didn’t hit her, AND his word). PAY THE MAN, or trade him… at this point I can’t take anymore bs on this team! dammit!

  18. rayjr26 says:

    broncofan0510

now im sure its possible, but seems unlikely a special teamer is making 2.2 million a year. can you throw out a couple names? also, you know, these guys come out of college and sign a CONTRACT. that is a binding agreement. brandon has 1 yr left on his. and if in that year he can keep his production up, stay out of trouble, stay healthy, and stay team oriented, then there is not a doubt in my mind that he will land a contract with the team that will make him happy! but until then, he should just suck it up! he made his bed (signed the contract), now sleep in it and just be happy he gets to play a GAME for a job!! thats all i have to say about that!

I see a lot of comments that I like and a lot of comments that I don’t like. That’s what is so nice about living in The U.S. of A. We are all entitled to our own opinions. But if I recall correctly McD. didn’t initiate the calls to try to trade Cutler. He did listen to offers from other teams who were trying to aquire Cutler which po’d Cutler and so he is no longer a Bronco. Well too bad, as I watched almost every game last year and he made some very dumb mistakes last year, some that didn’t cost the team because of bad official mistakes.

The Broncos shouldn’t have even been in the running for West Division champs last year as they should have lost the first game against the Chargers. So as far as I’m concerned the Broncos finished 7-9 last year so if McD. leads the Broncos to a 7-9 record this year then we’re better off than last year because he did it without Cutler. I’m more excited with what a lot of you are calling Orton as a ball control QB as maybe there won’t be so many interceptions and with shorter pass plays maybe there won’t be so many sacks.

Call me an old fuddy duddy but I like being able to see the QB and the receiver at the same time on my wide screen tv. LOL

I love watching the Broncos win or lose and always will even if AL Davis was to buy the team but it would be hard to keep the tv on while they were showing his face.

Go get em boys and kick some royal butt. ORANGE CRUSH forever.

  20. texark-fan says:

tjnartw, you are right about mac and jay. most people seem to forget how all of this started, they also forget that jay would not pick up his phone to stop it. but we will be talking about this until ………
people also say we are the #2 offence, we scored 370 last year. if we are #2 than the bears are #1 b/c they scored 375 points last year. that imo puts ORTAN and cutler even. :( i was going to say more about cutler but i think you know already.

“There are 3 things that can happen when you throw the ball, 2 of them are bad.”

  21. Dynamicdave says:

broncofan0510, you’re incorrect about the Marshall deal. He STILL has upcoming charges to face with the Watley thing. It looks like he has the upper hand in the case but as we all know, the courts could surprise us all and rule against him. Should that happen, he could STILL be suspended. His hip is not sure to be at 100% (although they feel it will be, it still needs to be tested and he needs to see how it holds up after a hit). You can give him a contract but it needs to have clauses/conditions. You don’t give away a long term contract with a ton of guaranteed $$ unless you are sure that he won’t get suspended or have lingering affects from the hip.

    Hey Broncos Faithful;
I hope you are all enjoying your summer. i don;t know about you, but today is Canada Day up here in the Great White North (meaning only 4-5 more months before snow), meaning it’s July and training camps start this month. Personally, I can’t wait. It has truly been the craziest off-season since the Broncos were losing Superbowls. With change came Championships and I can honestly say that I can another Superbowl team in the future.
It probably will not happen this year, but the play-offs are within reach (the west is weak and San Diego is ready to fall). Let’s come together and put our faith in the new coach and the direction that he is taking the team. He comes from a background of winning and domination (the single greatest offensive team ever). The former coach had the same credentials and he led the team to two Superbowl titles.
To finish, I would like to say “Happy Independence Day” and that you are the greatest friend our country could ever ask for!
    Go Broncos!
    MikeyD
