Broncos at Vikings: Gameday Coverage

December 4th, 2011 - 2:45pm by Kenny Legan

PREGAME:

We’re here at the Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, and it’s a good thing we’re indoors. It snowed a fair amount yesterday and is currently just 24 degrees outside.

Both teams are enjoying the comfort of the dome, as they are warming up on the field. We’re about an hour and a half from kickoff so stay tuned as we keep you updated with all the latest info.

BRONCOS AT CHARGERS GAMECENTER: For play-by-play action and up-to-the-minute stats, check out the DenverBroncos.com Gamecenter. We’ll keep you updated here with scoring plays, drive recaps and all the fun bits and pieces you can’t get from looking at a box score.

BRONCOS ON TWITTER: Another option is to follow the @Denver_Broncos Twitter account. There are constant updates on there throughout the game. You don’t have to be on Twitter to read the posts, but if you are, you should follow the account for news throughout the week as well.

MILLER INACTIVE: Broncos starting linebacker Von Miller is inactive for today’s game after sustaining a thumb injury last week. Mario Haggan, who started all 16 games in both 2009 and 2010, will start in his place.

BRONCOS-VIKINGS GETS WIDER AUDIENCE: Today’s game, which starts at 12 p.m. CST, can be seen throughout the majority of the United States.

PREGAME PHOTOS: Here are some pregame photos, courtesy of Eric Lars Bakke and Ben Hays, of the Broncos warming up.

COIN TOSS: The Vikings won the toss and elected to receive.

VIKINGS FORCE A SAFETY: After downing a punt on the 1-inch line, Jared Allen tackled Willis McGahee in the end zone for a safety.

BRONCOS STARTERS: Here are the offensive and defensive starters for the Broncos.

BRONCOS STOP VIKINGS WITH FUMBLE RECOVERY: As the Vikings were driving on 3rd-and-goal, safety Brian Dawkins sacked Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder, forcing a fumble which defensive end Jason Hunter recovered.

HAGGAN COMES UP WITH A PICK-6: Linebacker Mario Haggan, starting in place of the injured Von Miller, has given Denver the lead with a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown.

DUMERVIL DROPS PONDER: Defensive end Elvis Dumervil sacked Ponder, giving him 6.5 sacks on the season and at least half of a sack in five consecutive games.

FUMBLE LEADS TO VIKINGS FG: Willis McGahee’s fumble gave the Vikings good field position, but the Broncos defense held strong, giving up just a field goal as the Broncos now lead 7-5.

FIRST QUARTER SUMMARY: The first quarter has come to an end, with the Broncos leading 7-5.

VIKINGS RETAKE THE LEAD: Christian Ponder threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kyle Rudolph to give Minnesota a 12-7 lead.

VIKINGS EXTEND LEAD INTO HALFTIME: Ryan Longwell’s 25-yard field goal has given Minnesota a 15-7 lead as the teams head to the locker rooms for halftime.

BRONCOS SCORE TO OPEN SECOND HALF: Tim Tebow connected with Demaryius Thomas on a 21-yard touchdown pass on Denver’s first possession of the second half..

HARVIN GIVES VIKINGS BREATHING ROOM: Wide receiver Percy Harvin scores on a 52-yard touchdown catch-and-run to give Minnesota a 22-14 lead.

INJURY UPDATE: Broncos receiver Eddie Royal, has a neck injury and is questionable to return. David Bruton is also questionable to return with a calf injury and Quinton Carter is probable to return with cramps.

HARVIN SCORES AGAIN: Percy Harvin has scored on another long catch-and-run, giving the Vikings a 29-21 lead with 9:41 remaining in the fourth quarter.

MCGAHEE, TEBOW TIE THE GAME: Just 49 seconds after Harvin’s touchdown, the Broncos tie the game on McGahee’s 24-yard run. It’s now 29-29 with 8:52 left in the fourth quarter.

MCGAHEE TOPS 100-YARD MARK: For the sixth time this season, Willis McGahee has rushed for more than 100 yards.

LONGWELL PUTS MINNESOTA AHEAD: Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell has put the Vikings ahead 32-29 on a 39-yard field goal with 3:06 remaining in the fourth quarter.

THOMAS’ BIG DAY: Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has two touchdowns and 144 receiving yards.

  3. OrangeTsunami says:

Funny thing, at half time I was thinking I was gonna have to update my draft wish list to include a WR in an earlier round, and then all of a sudden Optimus explodes out of no where!!!

  4. risky305 says:

I can’t wait for Skip Bayless on First Take…He should wear a Tim Tebow jersey..

  5. socalbigbroncofan says:

This is the dawning of the age of Demaryius…. age of Demaryius.. age of Demaryius!!! Demaryius….. lol!

  8. jsizzla says:

How about Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio? Biggest Tebow hater out there, says we’re all buyin’ into the moment and we’re all fools. I’d like to punch that guy!

  9. strandoftds says:

    I`ll watch it, you betcha!

  10. jsizzla says:

Where’s Jim Everett when you need him, to beat up a talk show host. That was awesome!

  11. OrangeTsunami says:

How about Trent Dilfer saying that he would go “all in” with Tebow after today… Talk about a flip flopping… He and his brother are avgerage at best QB’s, kind of reminds you of another average NFL player – Merril Hoge!!! LOL!!!!

  12. socalbigbroncofan says:

whos that guy on nfl net. he sat next to jamie pukes, he is a big hater too.

  13. strandoftds says:

Skips going to enjoy this another few weeks, todays win, and next weekends slaughter against the Bears. Skips riding the ORANGE KOOL AID TIDAL WAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. OrangeTsunami says:

Dukes is a big time hater too… Someone should make a list of all the Time Tebow haters in the media!!! Sleep!!!! LOL

  15. jsizzla says:

Trent Dildo, yeah that guy was not a good QB, who’s he kiddin’?

  16. OrangeTsunami says:

    *Tim Tebow

    LOL

  17. strandoftds says:

I remember Jim Everett. I grew up 10 minutes from Anaheim Stadium where the Rams played. It sure wasn`t the L.A. Rams, more like Orange County. LOL

  18. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Not quite excited about Bay Bay yet … sure he got the skills but it didn’t feel like he was playing with full power and speed … might be because of injury … because he didn’t look like the guy i saw in college or last year as a matter of fact … but he played very well. Coined it “Bay Bay Day” … Many more hopefully. Decker can’t do it alone and Royal is snake bitten or something.

Bay Bay showed flashes last year as well … all I want from him is consistency … thats what he lacks … that and durability lol. But I don’t expect to see too much from him … he has missed too much time … pretty much all he can run is a go route like back in college. He has alot to learn. Im not knocking him by any means just saying what I see. TRB

  19. socalbigbroncofan says:

jim miller form sirius radio on nfl ch. he said we couldnt beat the chargers or any team with a good qb who can throw. hes always hating.

  20. josephjjp69 says:

Well i guess the game plan to stop the broncos option didnt work out to well seeing that we could run nfl formations n still pick up the W. Good to know bc now all the teams we play have to be aware that we can win a game without it and that makes it that much harder to gameplan against the broncos. TT’s throwing improving will also make defenses have to second guess on wat 2 do. Glad to c DT finally show up when we needed it the most. As for b. Lloyd he has to b hatin himself for wanting out. Thats what he gets lol.

  21. OrangeTsunami says:

Agreed that DT has a ways to go yet, but today was a great sign… Mostly due to the fact that he gained hella confidence in his body.. After suffering multiple injuries, it must be hard not to play scared.. Granted there is work to do, but I am very optimistic about Optimus’ future in the Orange & Blue!!!!

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

Sizzla… It was Jim Rome that Everette beat up on set… not Cowherd…

  23. jsizzla says:

I like Marvin McNutt wr out of Iowa. Best hands in college football. Big play reciever, most td’s in iowa football history. Ex-QB like Decker. He was top reciever in Big Ten this year and I think he could slip to the second round. Wouldn’t be a bad pick and he won’t drop those passes in the bread basket.

  24. 3rdGeneration says:

What more is there to say that hasn’t been said? Great, great win. I would live to see us put a team away early. That’ll be a big step when we can do that. Goodman had a bad game, but came through when it counted. Shows character. I think he’s still a solid CB, and am glad to have him. People have bad games. Look at Tebow over the weeks. Bad 3 quarters followed by great 4th and we hail him king. Goodman should be no different. We need a solid number 2 QB. I still worry Tebow is an injury timebomb with his style of play. Our D isn’t the same without Miller. Haggin played well, and hats off to him, but we weren’t the same without Miller. All in all, we’re in a great spot to finish as the west winnner. From there, ANYTHING can happen.

  25. 3rdGeneration says:

It might be worth dropping Quinn and adding McNabb.

  26. Bronco_Turtle says:

TRB I love ya man, but Bay Bay is a horrible nickname for DMT… I liked the Optimus Prime reference…

DMT just sounds like a good Drug!!! :o )

  27. jsizzla says:

Yeah turtle I know it was Rome, but I wish Everett would come back and slap cowherd around because the guy’s just brutal!

  28. strandoftds says:

    D. Thomas has been called Bay Bay since a child by his family.

  29. OrangeTsunami says:

DT went to Georgia Tech, the same college that Calvin Johnson went to.. Johnson was nick named Megatron, and a few years later, DT was dubbed Optimus Prime…

  30. Bronco_Turtle says:

He looked like the boss today!!! He is a Stud, and with a little TE help this offense could be really really scary!!!

  31. strandoftds says:

The Bears won`t even score a TD against the Broncos. There might even be a shut out.

  32. Bronco_Turtle says:

Haggan does a Great Miller Dance!!! that was classic!

  33. Ty-one-on says:

Adding McNabb ? That lazy bastard wouldn’t fit in with this team at all.

  34. socalbigbroncofan says:

coach fox should win coach of the year. they say habough from sf should get it. fox took a 4-12 team, 2nd worst team now leading the division, could go to the playoffs, picked miller who might get defensive and rookie of the year and to top it off winning with a qb that they said couldnt win. You cant write this stuff. I luv me some Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow.

  35. sndvl says:

Well, with the win today (not only does it eliminate the 6-10 prognosticators) but John Fox just surpassed the combined record of the two teams with the worst records last year…..?!?! Wait?! What!? Lol

  36. Bronco_Turtle says:

DMT literally made number 33 fall on his A**… can you imagine the rash of Sh*t that that guy is gonna get in film study tomorrow…

  37. strandoftds says:

We`ll take it. a 7-5 record sure looks good. LOL

  38. OrangeTsunami says:

Harvin looked great tonight… We need that type of WR if Royal or Willis can’t step into that role

  39. OrangeTsunami says:

Considering those two guys are busy running into each other… LOL

  40. strandoftds says:

I`ve got faith in Matthew Willis.

  41. Bronco_Turtle says:

Willis is all he’s ever going to be Strand… solid but has reached his ceiling….

  42. strandoftds says:

Willis is a flat out DEEP THREAT for LONG BOMB TD`s. Just wait and see.

  43. Broncos LAX says:

This game revealed something very apparent… Von Miller may be the MVP of this team he affects the game on defense in so many ways and I’m sure the Vikings would have had a much worse time with Von wreaking havok. Tebow had a great game doing very little over the ground and a lot through the air 67% completition and a 20 yard percompletition clip!

Robert Ayers after going 2-5 falling to the lions did say he expects us to finish 11-5 lol genius?

  44. OrangeTsunami says:

Yeah, I’m not sold on Willis either.. He looked lost on that Royal hit.. Trust me, I’d love to be wrong on him, but I not waiting on him either.. I suspect we’ll be taking a Harvin type WR in the draft.. Imagine that quick type WR, together with Decker and DThomas… Oh boyyyyy

  45. Bronco_Turtle says:

I’m really glad that Miller got the chance to recover and we still managed to get good pressure in the first half… He is by definition a Game Changer and I can’t wait to see him getting after Hanie or whoever the Bears put on the field… the Chiefs sacked Hanie 7 times today…

  46. strandoftds says:

    Hanie scaked 7 times. MAN!!

  47. OrangeTsunami says:

Anyone else see when Willis was standing next to McGahee?? Classic!! LOL

  48. Bronco_Turtle says:

Willis is a middle of the road number 3 or 4 reciever for maybe 3 or 4 years… DMT is a REAL DEEP threat, and has better size and speed… I’m not hating on Willis but the guy has been about as influential in game situations this year as Mitch Unrein…

  49. strandoftds says:

    ooops, SACKED!!

  50. Broncos LAX says:

At least wilis is active haha unrein well he may get a play every few weeks
