15:00: The Redskins will receive the ball to start the second half. Matt Prater boots the kickoff through the back of the end zone for a touchback — Washington returner Rock Cartwright signaled that the kick was good — it apparently went through the uprights.
Q3 14:49: The Redskins open the quarter with a screen pass from Jason Campbell to Fred Davis — a 10-yard pickup and a first down. The next play brings a handoff to Ladell Betts, and he is dropped by Brian Dawkins for no gain. There is an injured Bronco on the play — it’s hard to tell who it is at the moment.
Q3 14:14: It’s D.J. Williams, but he jogs off the field followed by trainers. Wesley Woodyard looks to be in the game in his stead. Campbell takes the next snap in the shotgun and gets the pass out quickly to Santana Moss, but he is brought down quickly by Andre’ Goodman after a gain of three yards. That sets up 3rd-and-7 for the Redskins at their own 33-yard line.
Q3 13:18: Darrell Reid and Elvis Dumervil combine to bring down Campbell for the sack on third down. Eddie Royal calls for a fair catch on the ensuing punt, and the Broncos offense will take over at their own 28-yard line.
Q3 12:55: Chris Simms is in at quarterback for the Broncos. On his first play from scrimmage, he hands off to Knowshon Moreno, who finds some room up the edge and picks up nine yards on the carry.
Q3 12:15: Simms hands off again on 2nd-and-1, and Moreno picks up two yards and a first down on the carry. Simms takes the snap from under center, drops back and can’t quite connect with Correll Buckhalter on his first pass of the season. That sets up 2nd-and-10, and Simms lines up in the shotgun. He fires to Jabar Gaffney, who picks up about eight yards, but there’s a flag on the play — pass interference on Eddie Royal. That makes it 2nd-and-20 on the 29-yard line.
Q3 11:00: Simms hands off to Moreno, and the rookie picks up 18 yards. A pass from Simms to Brandon Marshall picks up five yards and the first down.
INJURY UPDATE: Kyle Orton has an ankle injury, and his return is doubtful. D.J. Williams has a neck strain, and his return is probable.
Q3 9:27: Simms is in the shotgun on 2nd-and-10 after an incompletion in first down. After scrambling around a bit in the pocket, his pass falls incomplete on second down as well. That brings up 3rd-and-10 for the Broncos on the Washington 48-yard line. Simms scrambles to his left and finds Brandon Stokley — but the refs determine that the receiver was bobbling the pass as he went out of bounds, and the Broncos are forced to punt.
Q3 9:03: D.J. Williams is back in the game as the Redskins have a first down on their own 32-yard line after the Mitch Berger punt. They run with Ladell Betts on first down, and the back picks up eight yards on the carry. Second down brings another quick gain by Betts — 11 yards and a first down.
Q3 7:54: Andra Davis sacks Campbell on a blitz on first down, and it looks as if the ball came out, but it’s determined that Washington has a 2nd-and-17 at its own 44-yard line. Kenny Peterson is down after the play.
Q3 7:53: Peterson walks off the field with the help of the trainers. The refs announce that the ruling on the field on the previous play was that Campbell’s forward progress was stopped, so there’s no way to review if there was a fumble.
Q3 7:26: D.J. Williams makes the tackle on the ensuing play — a nine-yard completion to the Denver 47-yard line. That makes it 3rd-and-8 for Washington, and Campbell is in the shotgun. He is forced out of the pocket and fires to Devin Thomas near the first-down marker, and the refs rule it a catch. It’s a 10-yard completion to the 37-yard line.
Q3 6:00: Rock Cartwright carries the ball for six yards before being taken down by Davis. On 2nd-and-4, it’s Cartwright again, but he is brought down by a pack of Broncos led by Davis for no gain. That sets up 3rd-and-4, and Campbell fakes a pass before handing off to Betts on the draw play. It looks as if he’s short of the marker, setting up 4th-and-1 at the 28-yard line.
Q3 4:53: The Redskins have elected to go for it on fourth down. Cartwright is in the backfield as the crowd is on its feet. It looks like Campbell audibles at the line and tosses the ball to Cartwright, who tries to find the right sideline. Dawkins is all over it, however, snuffing out the play behind the line of scrimmage and forcing a turnover on downs. There was a flag on the play — holding on the Redskins — which was declined.
Q3 4:31: Simms hands off to Moreno on first down, and he falls forward for a gain of a yard. Simms connects with Scheffler on the next play, but he is hit after a gain of two. On 3rd-and-8, Simms drops back into the shotgun. He is sacked by two Redskins, however, forcing a punt.
Q3 2:55: Berger’s punt bounces an extra 15 or 20 yards down to the Washington 9-yard line, where the Broncos down it. It’s a 65-yard kick.
Q3 2:50: Betts carries for a gain of eight on first down, and Moss hauls in a pass on second down for a gain of five to pick up the first down. The next set of downs starts with a Betts run yet again — a pickup of four yards.
Q3 1:05: Betts takes another carry and picks up another first down on the ensuing play. With the clock winding down in the third quarter, Campbell hands off to Quinton Ganther, but the back is met immediately by a pack of Broncos after a gain of one yard. That brings us to the end of the third quarter, and the Broncos still hold a three-point lead in the contest.
Q4 15:00: Washington has a 2nd-and-9 at its own 35-yard line, and Campbell takes the snap in the shotgun. He gets the ball to Malcom Kelly after two Broncos defenders ran into each other. In the end it was an 18-yard completion and a first down. Betts picks up 18 more yards on the next play, carrying for a first down at the 29-yard line.
Q4 13:05: It’s 2nd-and-6 after a four-yard gain by Cartwright. It brings yet another run from the Redskins, and Cartwright picks up the first down at the 15-yard line. Peterson is back in the game on the defensive line and helps chase Campbell out of the pocket. The quarterback runs out of bounds for a gain of two yards. Second down brings another run from Betts, but Woodyard chases him down and tackles him for no gain.
Q4 11:25: On 3rd-and-8, Campbell finds Cartwright, but D.J. Williams stands him up and the rest of the Broncos defenders arrive to take him down after a gain of one. That brings up fourth down, and Shaun Suisham is in to attempt a 30-yard field goal attempt. It’s good, and the score is tied yet again.
BRONCOS 17, REDSKINS 17
Q4 10:40: Suisham again boots the ball out of bounds on the kickoff, giving the Broncos posession at their own 40-yard line.
Q4 10:33: A Redskins defensive player is down after a three-yard carry by Moreno on first down. It’s Albert Haynesworth.
Q4 10:25: Moreno follows his blockers, finds the hole and picks up 11 yards for a first down in Redskins territory. Simms fakes a handoff to Buckhalter and tries to launch downfield for Marshall — but he is picked off in the end zone by DeAngelo Hall. Hall then pitches the ball to LaRon Landry, and in total the return sets up the Redskins with a first down at their own 40-yard line.
Q4 8:57: Dumervil brings down Campbell for another sack on first down. On 2nd-and-12, Campbell hands off to Betts, who finds a hole for an 11-yard gain. That makes it 3rd-and-1, and Cartwright fights his way for the first down.
Q4 7:10: Peterson brings down Betts on first down after a gain of two, but Campbell fires toward Antwaan Randle El on the following play, good for a nine-yard gain and a first down.
Q4 5:56: A first-down carry by Cartwright nets three yards, followed by a run by Betts on second down that picks up four yards. That puts Betts at exactly 100 yards rushing. On 3rd-and-3, Denver calls its first timeout of the half.
Q4 4:37: The teams are back at the line of scrimmage, and Devin Thomas keeps his balance through several tackles to take a completion all the way to the 5-yard line — a 27-yard gain.
Q4 3:27: Betts picks up three yards on 1st-and-goal, but is stopped for no gain on second down. Denver calls its second timeout of the half.
Q4 2:49: Apparently Betts was credited with a gain of a yard, and it’s 3rd-and-goal for the Redskins at the 1-yard line. Dawkins hits Betts, but as he falls he reaches the ball over the goal line for a touchdown as the FedEx Field crowd explodes. Suisham’s extra point is good and the Redskins take the lead.
REDSKINS 24, BRONCOS 17
Q4 2:36: Royal returns the ball 30 yards to the 27-yard line, where Chris Simms and the offense will take over. Simms is in the shotgun as the crowd is on its feet. He is hit by Andre Carter as he throws, and his pass falls incomplete. On second down, Simms is again in the shotgun and he is again hit as he throws, and his pass again falls incomplete.
Q4 2:27: On 3rd-and-10, Simms drops back and fires very high toward Marshall — the pass is tipped by a defender and falls incomplete. Haynesworth is down again after the play, but walks off the field with the help of trainers.
Q4 2:20: On 4th-and-10, Simms is in the shotgun. he buys time and fires high for Marshall. The receiver leaps in the air but can’t bring it down, and the Broncos turn the ball over on downs.
Q4 2:13: The Broncos stop a Betts run after a gain of a yard and Denver calls its final timeout of the half.
TWO MINUTE WARNING: Betts carries for one more yard as the clock ticks down to the two-minute warning.
2:00: The previous run has been corrected, as it is now being called a rush for no gain. It’s 3rd-and-9 for the Redskins at the 26-yard line. Betts picks up eight yards as the clock continues to run, and Washington lets it tick down to 1:15 before calling its first timeout of the half.
1:15: Suisham is in the game to attempt a 35-yard field goal — and it’s good, giving the Redskins a two-posession lead.
REDSKINS 27, BRONCOS 17
Q4 1:06: Royal returns a squib kick 10 yards to the 26-yard line, where the offense takes over. Simms is in the shotgun and is brought down for a sack. On 2nd-and-14, Simms completes a pass to Moreno, who gets out of bounds after a gain of seven. On 3rd-and-7, Simms is sacked by Brian Orakpo. That brings up 4th-and-17, and the last play of the game. Simms fires incomplete to Daniel Graham and the Redskins get the 27-17 victory.
The Broncos fall to 6-3, and a meeting with the San Diego Chargers at INVESCO Field at Mile High awaits in Week 11.

and thats a good point mania..Why the hell isnt hillis playing????????
denver would make detroit look like the next superbowl champs. i bet i can tell you what mcd will say post game. he’ll congraguate the other team… say they played better… that we needed to play a complete 60 minute football game to win… that we didnt execute… that we lost in all phases of the game… that we have alot of work to do… and that he’ll look at the game tape to see what needs to be fixed… sound about right guys?
sound right D
WAs hillis injured or something?
Im not understanding the story behind Hillis…first he was in the dog house, then he had personal problems…i dont know whats up with him
OH… and our players will say that they’re not panicking yet….
dont you wish we could start this game over again…:(
yes
Now you all frickin see what I’ve been saying every week….Orton is not our problem…he really impressed me today…besides that missed throw to Royal…he was spot on…On that Royal throw though…Eddie looked like he let up a little bit almost like he wasnt expecting the ball…anyone else see that? Anyway…If Orton can come back I think we will be ok…it all boils down to next week…bottom line.
ya know guys.i dont post very often, but today had me soo upset i had to vent
I understand… LB…. this game was in the bag eh?
im sorry..im getting sick of people saying “next week”..u said that after baltimore then Pitts burgh..now washington…cmon
yes werlecar..it was
Hey….besides the loss today….wasn’t seeing Orton and Marshal hooking up like that encouraging??
Can we stop asking why hillis isnt playing…at least our running game was good this week…besides Ive always been a Brandstater guy (dont like simms) but I have never wanted Orton back as much as I do now….its like along with that shave came a new Orton…..plus if we had gone vertical agaisnt ravens and steelers like we did today we might have done alot better…either way, water under the bridge just like this game….if we want the West we are gonna have to punch the chargers in the mouth and everyone in the AFC west to get it.
shutout..yes it was great seeing them hookup..that should silence the naysayers about orton not being able to go deep
too bad we can’t be on the field punching too!!!
amen..i mean i know its easy to criticize in front of the tv..but these guys are the professionals..
That’s kinda what I say to my dad when he yells at the tv… they know what they are doing, etc .. but I get yelled at!
Well I certainly didn’t see us losing to a 2-6 team. Ick. I didn’t get to watch any of the game at all but it sounds like we left our good game in the first quarter with 2 TDs. The more losses we get the more work they have cut out for them to get better. 3 straight losses now – they’ve dug themselves a pretty deep hole. I didn’t see any of the game so not anything I can really comment on other than…
I don’t even want to hear a snitch from now on about how Simms is better than Orton. He got his shot today and blew it. Looks like our back up can throw an INT too. Orton will be fine and I hope some of you can now learn to trust our starter and McD’s decision to make Orton that guy. He had a reason for doing so other than that’s who we got in the trade of the year. Don’t even try to put this game on Orton. Someone was able to say they were wrong, so kudos to you Broncomania56.
This season isn’t over yet and we can still pick up our own slack but they seriously need to get some consistency going. They completely blew their lead, which sadly enough seems to be the only consistency they have going on. Ridiculous. We have a huge division game against a team looking for some revenge considering we beat them on MNF a few weeks ago. I can’t take watching another home loss. This team can’t afford 4 straight losses. All I can say is they better start showing up to games fully ready & prepared to attack or this season will only get worse. We have several huge games left like Indy… oh mylanta, I’m not sure I want to know how that game will go and end. That one has me worried. If we don’t get our act together that will be one ugly game for us.
Keep your heads up, this season is far from over. They got time to work out the kinks and get on a better track but won’t be easy at all now that we’ve suffered 3 straight losses.
Keep the faith Bronco Country…
GO BRONCOS!!!!
LOL Werlecar
That’s some post! But yeah.. I know. Hard to watch the home games when we lose. We’ll see what happens right!?
07Elway:Well i guess its good you didnt watch the game..you would have been beside yourself..im at a loss for words about what happened in the second half. And Orton wanted to come back in which really ticked me off..i just seemed so unnecessary with Simms playing like he did.Oh well.. im still venting i guess but let the record show i never said anything about starting Simms over Orton.I was always with you and Dynamic Dave…
Lot of drunk unhappy fans tonight in Denver, and colorado springs…
And im a drunk and unhappy fan in california…
Ah sorry LB! do you live near san diego?!
?
How on Earth did we go from Elite to Stink!?
This was a game we NEEDED! Where is the urgency? Where is the desire, heart and resolve? I can’t believe we’ve gone soft but we have…
San Diego is taking the Eagles for a RIDE and will tie us after accepting the division was ours only 3 weeks ago.
This is CLEARLY unacceptable quality football. Mediocre in ALL PHASES of the team.
I want to see a playoff mentality next week at home vs. the Chargers.
Upsetness…
Ok, for all those who wanted Orton out and “give Simms a chance”… wish granted.
What the hell is happening to our D??????????????
Pretty close…Corona
Well some of you got what you wanted. Orton injured his ankle. Simms came in. lol That’s about all he did. Orton was tryna talk his way beack in wasn’t happening.
I would like to give props to Greatness007. I didn’t know you was making the trip. For all who was at the game. In the 3rd from the left side. If you were like me behind the bench. The reason they were cheering during the TV timeout. Greatness gave away 20 tickets in a tailgate trivia contest. Only if you were in a Bronco jersey. When one of the people told me some guy calling himself Greatness was giving away tickets. In the gold parking lot. I knew it was you.
Should have let me know man. I could have saved my money. lol I see you doing it big though.
We had that game and just gave it away. I’m not gonna rant. It is what it was.
LOl greatness…
Broncos 17 Redskins 27
Time for predictions result, you all know it’s ugly once again as we all pick our team to win…
However, one guy had a much better feel than anyone else for today’s score, and even so TheRoyalBeast made fun of him because of his score pick, he is the undisputed smartest man on this blog for the week:
Orange Crusher, predicting only a one point win 10-9
We bow to you, we all hate you , but you knew better than any of us this wasn’t a cake walk.
With honorable mentions, for realizing this would be a tough game regardless of the opponent:
oldsouthstander, predicting only a 6 point win 16-10, and
baylinorcrush, predicting a 7 point win 13-6.
As for the majority of the other picks, they are not worth mentioning, they were all between 10 and 21 points win.
However, and this is always the fun part, two picks were way over the top, so we are going to give them the shame on you pick, either for not respecting the Redskins O or over respecting our D big time, your choice:
coachemup 34-10, a 24 point win, and
57 yellow T-bird 31-6, a 25 point win…
20 entries this week and regardless of the loss, great fun was had by all! LOL. The Chargers are up next, please place your picks any day you wish except on game day. Good luck. Come to think of it, good luck to our team too. This was seriously ugly. Well, I’ll have all week to talk about it, so let’s not spoil the moment. LOL. YOU GO, ORANGE CRUSHER!!!! YOU DA MAN, don‘t pay no attention to TRB! LOL.
LB – yeah I the only part I did see was at the half of the Minn-Det game they showed a clip of Orton’s long bomb down field to Marshall for TD and so I’m thinking that’s all I’d like to remember about this game. lol I know you’ve had Orton’s back but there’s a few around here who wanted him benched so Simms could play and I swear if I hear one person say they were happy about it… they’re gonna get an earful from me!
1) Orton CAN throw the long passes and they can be caught and brought in for a TD.
2) Simms is NOT better than Orton.
If there was a day people got that picture, today would be it. See what happens when people make snap judgements. Comes back to bite ya. My point from day about this was McD is our coach and people need to trust his decisions on things like who our starting QB should be. Now granted, in the past 2 games I got to see he’s made some questionable moves like in our playcalling… can’t say anything about today’s loss as I didn’t get to see anything but I’m sure he did the same there. Bottom line, he is our coach and he should be trusted so he had better get this team back to winning formation or every risky move he’s made will be questioned by season’s end. As a coach, he needs to take charge but this loss, like any other, is on the entire team. They had the lead for the longest time and blew it. They need to learn the 3 C’s…
Consistency, consistency and more consistency. The lack thereof kills ‘em every time.
Name the only team in NFL history to start 6-0 and not make the play offs? Well our D can’t play 4 Quaters. We can’t beat the only team Detroit beat in 2 years. I think we are done 8-8 will not get it done.
Ubb, Greatness,
Yall were at the Game!?!? Yall from the DMV (D.C, MD, VA) area or did yall come from far for the game….live in MD myself considered going to Ravens or Redskins game, now im glad I didnt go to either…such a dissapointment.
At least I for one can say I never liked Simms, Im all about Brandstater but understand why Orton got the go ahead. Orton coulda played, saw him practicing before the second half started…was still setting his foot right and he looked like he could goo….once I saw simms in the game I knew we were goners….was hoping Brandstater would get the start but was hoping Orton would come in even more…thats his time to shine, in the lead, manage the game and run the ball….sigh, very dissapointing
i have not seen a qb play as bad as criss simms in a while
Also McD is hard headed and while he is a smart guy that might be his problem….he is too logical sometimes, needs more gut instincts shoulda let Orton go back in, I could tell he was itching to go back in.
Every time Simms was talking to McD. Orton was right there. McD just kept him out for SD. He probably thought we could get it done. Buck fumbled again. Knowshawn was getting his man. That one Int that Hall got killed us.
I stay in MD. So it was no prob for me. Greatness on the other hand. I think you would have to ask him. I’m not sure anyway.
O7, no need to be fighting to be right on this one regarding Orton. I know you did not watch the game, but trust me the D lost this one. This is not about who of us fans are right or wrong, it’s what is the team going to do about this three game losing streak. I said earlier if we lost today we are looking at a 4 game losing streak and a 10-6 record at best which will get us nowhere this year. So please, let’s keep things in perpective, whether anyone respects Orton or not at this point doesn’t really mean diddly. I can’t believe you did not get to watch the game today, it would of been a good time for you to assess where we are really at. My 8-8 record prediction for the year still looks pretty good, I am afraid. I hope I’m wrong, just calling it as I see it. And like I’ve said all along 8-8 would be a successful season in this, a rebuilding year. That’s what this year really is, I have no idea why people would put higher expectations into this year considering what happened in the off-season. Just my opinion.
i have been a bronco fan forever and i am old please broncos you are killing me
I was surprised that Simms did that horribly – not too bad until that INT by DeAngelo hall in the endzone, then he couldnt have sucked worse
Actually, it just came to me that this is the first game in my early year predictions that I had us winning and we lost. Sobbering thought.
GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
=-/ all i was saying was dont be quick to throw simms under the bus. We are prob. going to need him very soon if ortons injury is as bad as it looks.
What i find interesting is alot of you are pinning me for negative critisim, when i even said i believe we will win our next three games…I defended simms to the point of recognition, because the guy hadnt gotten the reps with mcdaniels offense like orton has…And with no o line support thats tough cookies. Now i can agree he threw the game away sure, but who did we expect to step in? Tom brady? last i checked that guy is our 3rd string
Our defenses flaw was simply underestimating the skins and overestimating our d line. We played alot of zone today compared to usual and got burned in the running game.
He just needs to be more consistent (and better, lol) and then if Orton cant finish out a game, he can ensure the win. And next time, hopefully he’ll get injured further into the game where we have a more assuring lead.
I agree.
You guys are just killing me, looking at the O flaws and completely ignoring the D’s atrocious play… Whatever…
You just said that lol and me and marshall are the only ones posting..And i agreed with you lol.
