Broncos at Ravens: Key Plays

December 16th, 2012 - 8:28pm by Gray Caldwell

Third-and-1 from DEN 46, 12:17 1st quarter: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco took the snap and executed a quarterback sneak for what would have been a first down, but defensive tackle Justin Bannan wrenched the ball away for a fumble, and safety Rahim Moore fell on the ball to give the Broncos possession. Denver’s offense responded with a touchdown drive.

Second-and-6 from BAL 31, 8:12 2nd quarter: On their sixth drive of the game, the Ravens finally picked up a first down thanks to a 14-yard run by Bernard Pierce. To that point, the Broncos had forced a fumble followed by four consecutive three-and-outs. On the very next play, an offensive holding penalty got Baltimore behind the chains, and the team had to punt right back to Denver four plays later as the Broncos defense continued to dominate the first half.

First-and-10 from DEN 27, 12:59 3rd quarter: The Ravens opened the second half with a steady drive into Denver territory. But on first down, linebacker Von Miller stopped running back Ray Rice at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Two consecutive incompletions by quarterback Joe Flacco let the Ravens with a fourth down, and Baltimore had to settle for a 45-yard field goal. Denver scored a touchdown on its ensuing drive to extend its lead to 24-3.

Third-and-8 from BAL 45, 7:14 4th quarter: After Baltimore scored its only touchdown of the game up to that point, the Broncos offense was driving down the field, looking to answer. But a long drive would have been for naught if the Broncos couldn’t convert a third-and-long near midfield. Quarterback Peyton Manning dropped back and hit wide receiver Eric Decker for a 13-yard gain and a first down — and Ravens cornerback Cary Williams tacked 15 yards onto that with an unnecessary roughness penalty. Four play later, the Broncos capped off a 15-play drive that took 9:59 off the clock with a Matt Prater field goal.

Second-and-16 from BAL 29, 0:05 4th quarter: Defensive end Elvis Dumervil raced around his defender to sack Flacco, taking down the Baltimore quarterback for the team’s second sack in as many plays to end the game and seal the win.

Lol Strand….well 11-5 is better than my prediction of 10-6 and third in the division and missing the playoffs.

This year has been a total surprise.

Wow I thought I heard it all but I was wrong.

Apparently NE is all Brady and he has no help. That was used as an argument for Brady for MVP. smh

    Dear Mrs. Bay,

I want to wish you the happiest of Birthdays. I hope you and the family are all well. I continue to enjoy it when you loan Mr. Bay to us, as he continues to be the most effective at stimulating something on the blog. I also wish you the blessings of the season as we celebrate our Saviors Birth and the coming New Year. Happy Birthday!

I feel a bit dirty having cheered 49ers the way I did tonight. I couldn’t believe it when the Pats started coming back from a 31-3 deficit to tie it 31-31. I feel a bit guilty that I was feeling so low at that point…LOL. (Seeing as how the Colts did us wrong!)

I believe in spite of my guilt and shame I am likely to be a Viking and Colt fan for the coming weeks!!! LOL

Having now caught the Pats – The Brown and the Chief are both feeling like trap games.

If Foxxy sits Manning I’m certain to blow something very important to me!!!! LOL (Like a gizzard or something…)

  8. DaddyBronc says:

So…to beat the Pats you need a quick strike offense and turnovers??? (file that)

Brady with 65 passes and over 400 yards – and he loses??? LOL Hahahaha!!! I’m lovin’ it!!!

    Mornin’ Broncos Country!!!

What a great experience to be there for a history defying game.Even though I happened to be in line for the bathroom on 2 of the biggest/best plays of the game.Had to wait til I got home to see a replay of Reed playing the paying the part of human hurdle.Way to go Knowshon!

Missed the 51 yard pass to Decker too.

My seat was right in line with the 10 yard line on the Broncos side.Harris made that grab right in front of me.

Quite the game to behold in person and had some great endzone seats (endzone where, pick 6 happened, decker deep TD, and Moreno TD run) … I actually have a video of Moreno’s TD run. Might put it up on youtube and share it. Was seated right behind the band. Was great. There were quite a few Broncos fans out here in Baltimore but we were drowned in a sea of purple. Even saw a kid dressed in a Barrell … in Baltimore … too funny.

For my first live game to be a blow out it was awesome. One of the most memorable moments that was a joy to behold in person was the pick 6 because i called it. Lets just say that the ravens fans around me weren’t pleased. Also the hurdle was awesome in person. Von Miller is a beast. Remember this one spin move he pulled when the ravens were backed up in thier endzone. It was quite beastly to behold in person. Almost got to Flacco.

All in all, great game, great expirience. And if i ever get the video up on youtube, ill post the link in group. Not an avid youtuber but ill put this one vid up. Hopefully sometime today.

I doubt Manning sits any of these games. He isn’t going to want to and Fox really does let him do what he wants for the most part and we have to win them. Perhaps the second half of the KC game depending on the score at half time. Personally think he has too much fun out there and wouldn’t like to see him pulled. I’m not worried about him getting hurt at this point, he knows how to take a hit. Also, don’t look for is to run the score up on our opponents. If we’re winning like we were against Baltimore were going to run the ball and we definitely will not try a fake punt when were up by 30!!! Only reason the 49ers let the Pats come back was because they stopped playing their defense and went preventative and couldn’t get their original set up back until the end of the game. We play Broncos football we can beat anybody.

I haven’t been this happy in a long time and after having a migraine all weekend after what happened on Friday it was just what the doctor ordered.

  12. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks DB, my wife will love it, she had a wonderful day starting at midnight when I gave her some sea water pearls which allowed me to step out later on to watch the game with my buddies, LOL. Got back right after the game though and cooked her dinner, what a guy!

    AWESOME GAME!

    EVEN BETTER SEASON!

And THANK YOU 49ERS, now we are in control of our destiny to get a bye.

Last year was the MAGICAL SEASON, this one is the DREAM SEASON.

  13. DaddyBronc says:

Our expectations have definitely been changed.

Like – what’s gotten into Knowshon? That young man is definitely making a bid to remain a Bronco. Here’s hoping he can remain healthy.

I don’t know what your agenda is with running up the score – these are pros –
I know, I know , I know…everybody gets a trophy and we need to come away having high self-esteem when we suck!!! GAG!!!

  14. baylinorcrush says:

Moreno has simply learned how to run in the NFL through his experience with the scout team. No more b.s. improv, just sound fundamentals. He has fully turned the corner IMO. Now the only thing that can derail him is injuries, but I’m comfortable about that since we have Lukesson, no more pulled anything, or just about, which is what Moreno always felt victim too under Tuten.
And we have Hester the Molester too, haha, TD BABY!

  15. DaddyBronc says:

I like Hester but I’m surprised that Little Gronk hasn’t become that …for the Broncs. I gues he just doesn’t have what it takes???

  16. killerkod says:

I have been one of the stronger opposers to Moreno……….cause let’s face it….up to this point he’s been a major disappointment. But I have to say the guy has really impressed since he’s gotten a chance to play again. He seems like a completely different player. I guess some time in the dog house has made him a better man and player. He’s being more patient and hitting the holes when they open and what impresses me most is that he’s running with authority….keeping the legs churning and fighting for extra yards while securing the ball. He was in total beast mode yesterday. We’re gonna need that type of effort in the playoffs.

Such a great day! A Broncos win and a Pats loss……….we’re in the driver’s seat and we know PM will not take the foot off the pedal. Time to embarrass the Browns and Chiefs. Some think these are trap games, but with the 2nd seed on the line, PM won’t let that happen.

    GO BRONCOS!

  17. tlcat06 says:

DB, I think it’s disrespectful and unnecessary. Peyton obviously feels the same way I do about it as he could’ve aired it out a ton in the 4th quarter and gotten more points. He didn’t. We could’ve scored a TD against the Raiders at the end of that game. We didn’t. It’s about winning the game, not acting like Pete Carroll and faking a punt when you’re up by 30 points. I just find it to be disrespectful and I’ve never liked running up the score. Of course I realize there’s the argument that this is the NFL and if you want them to not run up the score then stop them, blah blah blah… I just happen to think there’s a way you should do things and a way you shouldn’t. I mean, look at Brady throwing a fit like a two year old girl who didn’t get his way. How silly does he look now, especially since he didn’t win? LOL

  18. killerkod says:

although much didn’t show up on the stat sheet, Von was a beast too and his constant pressure def affected Flacco.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

The one thing that will be hard for me to swallow is when Moreno will sign a new contract with us for all kinds of dough when actually after all the horribly disappointing seasons he has had we should get some of our money back from that first “under performing” contract. Oh well, good for him, bad for our piggy bank.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Fox is the one who doesn’t run up scores and he doesn’t do it out of respect for other teams as much as he does it by design to run the clock out by running the ball trying to avoid taking any chances at messing the game up, it’s just that simple IMO.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Shanny used to never run the score up for a different reason, to not reveal anymore of our plays that he absolutely had to, so he could save them for another week. There are multiple reasons not to run up the score and I tend to think they make more sense that running it up, but I could care less how it makes the other teams feel though… MAN UP! LOL. Or get even next time, that’s even better.

  22. killerkod says:

haha bay……..don’t think that would go over well in the contract negotiations! lol

  23. DaddyBronc says:

I too, enjoyed the Brady temper tamtrum – LOL no class!

But… with the manner in which teams can suddenly turn a game around and score scads of points in just seconds…what was it? 3 TD’s in 71 seconds this week? An NFL team needs to play aggressive for 60 minutes and score every chance and in every manner that they are able.

…there is absolutely no reason Carrol shouldn’t have tested a play that he intends for use in the playoffs. (Might have been foolish to show his hand…? I don’t know.)

In the NFL…running up the score is not unethical.

  24. AZBroncolover says:

Hey, Cat… Told ya… We all appreciate the sacrifice you made here…
Now, if you could just change your score for the next few games, you will be site MVP…

Happy Decker kicked it in for ya…

  25. DaddyBronc says:

Me too Cat! Are you out of school for the holidays?

  26. AZBroncolover says:

A question, guts and gals… When Brady spiked the ball, he was not penalized for it… I don’t know if it was because time was called, but I thought someone could enlighten me…

    Thanks in advance…

  27. baylinorcrush says:

In my guts I don’t know because I didn’t see it, haha.

  28. strandoftds82 says:

And how about when the Ravens player blatantly kicked the ball after a play was over and no yellow flag. That was a crock!
