Broncos at Ravens: Key Plays

December 16th, 2012 - 8:28pm by Gray Caldwell

Third-and-1 from DEN 46, 12:17 1st quarter: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco took the snap and executed a quarterback sneak for what would have been a first down, but defensive tackle Justin Bannan wrenched the ball away for a fumble, and safety Rahim Moore fell on the ball to give the Broncos possession. Denver’s offense responded with a touchdown drive.

Second-and-6 from BAL 31, 8:12 2nd quarter: On their sixth drive of the game, the Ravens finally picked up a first down thanks to a 14-yard run by Bernard Pierce. To that point, the Broncos had forced a fumble followed by four consecutive three-and-outs. On the very next play, an offensive holding penalty got Baltimore behind the chains, and the team had to punt right back to Denver four plays later as the Broncos defense continued to dominate the first half.

First-and-10 from DEN 27, 12:59 3rd quarter: The Ravens opened the second half with a steady drive into Denver territory. But on first down, linebacker Von Miller stopped running back Ray Rice at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Two consecutive incompletions by quarterback Joe Flacco let the Ravens with a fourth down, and Baltimore had to settle for a 45-yard field goal. Denver scored a touchdown on its ensuing drive to extend its lead to 24-3.

Third-and-8 from BAL 45, 7:14 4th quarter: After Baltimore scored its only touchdown of the game up to that point, the Broncos offense was driving down the field, looking to answer. But a long drive would have been for naught if the Broncos couldn’t convert a third-and-long near midfield. Quarterback Peyton Manning dropped back and hit wide receiver Eric Decker for a 13-yard gain and a first down — and Ravens cornerback Cary Williams tacked 15 yards onto that with an unnecessary roughness penalty. Four play later, the Broncos capped off a 15-play drive that took 9:59 off the clock with a Matt Prater field goal.

Second-and-16 from BAL 29, 0:05 4th quarter: Defensive end Elvis Dumervil raced around his defender to sack Flacco, taking down the Baltimore quarterback for the team’s second sack in as many plays to end the game and seal the win.

If anybody is wondering why the Texans let Hilliday go, this game should have highlighted why: he’s as likely to fumble as break a big one. Priority offseason acquisition is his equivalent who doesn’t fumble. and a better backup guard.

I’d like to add the 3rd and 4, with just over 2:00 left in the 3rd quarter. Woodyard broke up a pass play to force 4th down, and running across the field to congratulate him was DJ Williams!

  5. CARAMELLOO says:

The Tavens did a good job kicking away from Holliday. yes he fumbled one but I still consider his upside is > his downside as a Bronco.

  12. CARAMELLOO says:

Man you would think my wife and I are die hard 9ers fans the way we are pulling for them to get this win!! I wonder what our team is thinking and feeling right now? I know I’m getting killed in my fantasy league but it doesn’t matter bc the Broncos crushed the Ravens and could be the #2 seed in a few mins.

This was not written by me but was sent to me via email. It is just so amazing that I have to share.

twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven’s gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn’t know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
“where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“this is heaven.” declared a small boy. “we’re spending Christmas at God’s house.”
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.
and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of mom and dad.”
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!”
“may this country be delivered from the hands of fools”
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools!”
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“come now my children, let me show you around.”
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.

  30. strandoftds82 says:

Alaska! Thats is the most glorious poem I ever read! Absolutely beautiful! Thanks Bro!

  31. strandoftds82 says:

I’ve have to copy that poem! WOW!

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

Your welcome Strand!!! I dont know who actually wrote it and have been trying to figure it out.

  33. strandoftds82 says:

Alaska, I have a book thats called My Time In Heaven. Everything thats in this poem pertains to this book I’ve read many times. Its about the beauty of heaven when you get there. This guy who wrote it was in heaven for 8 hours and came back to tell mant what he saw and later wrote this amazing book. And Children were there playing and growing up too. Just wanted to share that with you.

  34. alaskanbronco06 says:

That is very very cool strand!!! Sound like an amazing book.

  35. strandoftds82 says:

My god, we are going to have a bye week! I mean Cleveland and K.C. in our own backyard.

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

I know strand!!!! Especially how easily weve been stopping the run? They should come by rather easily.

  37. strandoftds82 says:

    Broncos 2012!!! ORANGE AND BLUE!!

  38. strandoftds82 says:

And the Browns played poorly today!

  39. strandoftds82 says:

We held Rice to under, what 60 yards was it? I’m not sure, but we stopped him.

  40. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand we held Rice to 38 yards rushing and only 3 receiving yards.

  41. strandoftds82 says:

I just looked it up. Ray Rice only had 38 yards rushing. The whole Ravens Offense only rushed for a measly 56 yards in the game.

  42. strandoftds82 says:

    And zero TD’s for Rice.

  43. strandoftds82 says:

    AB, thats crazy.

  44. alaskanbronco06 says:

We have stepped up our run D greatly.

  45. alexanserg says:

to put that in perspective we held him the whole game to about as much as he got on 4th and 29 vs the chargers

  46. strandoftds82 says:

    LMAO!!

  47. alaskanbronco06 says:

    very true Alex.

  48. strandoftds82 says:

Well I just want to say that I predicted the Broncos to go 11-5 this season.

  49. strandoftds82 says:

To bad I’m going to be wrong. HaHa!!
