Third-and-4 from the Carolina 38: On the Panthers’ first drive of the game, linebacker Von Miller burst into the backfield and brought down Cam Newton for a 6-yard loss. That play set the tone for a Denver defense that totaled seven sacks in the win.
Third-and-8 from the Carolina 9: Under heavy pressure, Newton heaved a pass down the right sideline for Louis Murphy, who was covered closely by Tony Carter. The pass sailed incomplete forcing the Panthers to punt from deep in their own territory. The Broncos converted the ensuing strong field position into a 10-yard touchdown strike from Peyton Manning to Brandon Stokley that tied the game 7-7.
Third-and-4 from the Carolina 26: Another third down resulted in more pressure from the Denver front four as defensive end Elvis Dumervil got to Newton and forced his league-leading fifth fumble. Newton recovered the loose ball, which turned out to work in the Broncos’ favor as on the next play, Trindon Holliday returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown, giving Denver a lead that it would not relinquish.
Third-and-8 from the Carolina 24: It looked like the Panthers had made a big play to recapture momentum when Newton hit Murphy for a 34-yard gain, but the play was called back due to offensive pass interference and Carolina was forced to punt.
1st-and-10 from the Carolina 28: The Broncos’ drive came to a halt when Manning was sacked and fumbled the football, which was recovered by the Panthers. Again, a Carolina fumble recovery proved favorable for the Broncos when on the next play, Carter stepped in front of Newton’s pass and returned it 40 yards for a score to give Denver a 24-7 lead.
Third-and-10 from the Carolina 35: Another third down, another Broncos sack. This time it was cornerback Chris Harris who came on a blitz and brought down Newton for a 3-yard loss to force a punt.
2nd-and-7 from the Carolina 14: Defense End Robert Ayers, who was filling in for an injured Dumervil sacked Newton for a 12-yard loss at the Carolina 2-yard line. On the next play, safety Mike Adams brought down Newton in an end zone for the Broncos’ second safety of the season.

Bring back the “Eating Greedy” dance.
Wierd to have tge defense/st win games when the offense struggles (3/13 on 3rd downs). Anyway, what a game. knowing Newton holds the ball longer than any QB in the league, its not supprising Denver went sack happy.
Thank you John Elway!!!!!!!
McGahee, I love you man but WTF?!??!?
Holliday, bet those Texans fans are saying ‘wtf?!?’
I love tgis team. Great group of guys. When Von Miller was asked what has made this defrnse ball out like this and he answers ‘Wesley Woodyard without hesitation. Makes ya wonder what DJ wasnt doing at WLB. just saying.
Oh yeah. hey bay, ive been way off on predictions and you rightfully called me out. tgis time I hd 35-17 and it was 36-14. redemtion? lol
The Broncos offense better not play this sloppily against a good team, we’ll be destroyed. What’s wirth McG and his suddeen fumblitis?
D was awsome!!!!!!
ST are certainly looking better with the addition of holliday (sp).
Thanks, Freak!!!
nice win but it felt like we were revirting back to fumbling the ball again. still got work to do
B-R-O-N-C-O-S Broncos Broncos Broncos!!! Team looked great! Im posting from my phone, internet is out… Ayers rocks!
Just so you know… The Broncos have lost to three teams whose combined win record is 22 and loss record is 5.
I have to agree, BT… Ayers was awesome today!!!
Just so you all know…losing to great teams won’t get us the Lombardi. But it is good to feel like the Broncos are a winning team.
It just doesn’t feel like a SB year…does it???
Hi DB! Hi Cat! Cat, did you here the announcer make the statement that Marino would have had 600 TD’s if he played with today’s rules?!? At least I’m not the only guy who thinks so.
And congrats to PM for tying Marino’s touchdown mark, next togo down… The favrah!!!
Hopefully my net is back tomorrow, I’m sick of this touchscreen…
Heard that – I never did like Marino that well. But…Marino was a passer and would definitely have more yards today than in his day.
(I think that Marino was one of the ‘pretty’ QB’s – kinda like a Brady or Newton – hard for me to take too seriously no matter what the stat sheet says. Sorry Cat, They just don’t do anything for me.) LOL
Dj Williams is a middle line backer just so u know . That’s what he came in the league as .
good win been a long time where i felt good when they got the ball. no fumbles it is 50 to 14. our front 7 is looking better than the Giants, and we know what wins gmes. 7 sacks with disruption every pass play. we look good right now
Vick with 2 sacks as a tackle von doom makes that happen
its come to the point that they need to double miller and doom if ayers and vick get that push wow
the last thing we he to worry about is the offence PM was pissed and what happened 7 points. 2 fumbles in a row and he gave it a “whatever”
DJ will be lucky to suit up again as a Bronco. If he gets to suit up it will most likely be as a special teams guy. I will be ticked if he plays in any spot except Brookings – it is the only position he could improve – that is if he really is able to be up-to-speed and game-ready before post season.
DB perhaps I might agree with you if we didn’t LOSE to those teams by a combined total of 18 points and if we didn’t lose to them before we had jelled as a team. SO! I disagree in that I think if we played any of those teams again we would beat them now. Me yes, to me it feels like a championship year, but wait… I’ve always believed that it had the potential to be.
I live for stats, they’re so fun to throw around. Funny how you liked to throw stats at me when you were trying to convince me all kinds of things about Tebow, but they don’t matter now. HA!
Oh, and I was impressed by Ayers yesterday, but until he does it on a consistent basis, I’m going to be hesitant. He always had the potential, now he needs to be consistent.
Oh and yes, BT I did hear the announcers say that, but seeing as how Peyton had been able to reach 420 playing less games than Marino, who’d knows how many TDs he’d have now if he didn’t have to take last season off!
Geez DB, you’re the eternal pessimist when it comes to this team. Wins in this league don’t come easy, especially on the road and we’ve won three of our last 4 in the other teams house. Were they perfect wins? Not by a long shot…….but what this team has done is gelled and they find a way to win football games. To me, that screams championship calibre……..cause that’s what championship teams do…..find a way to win the game.
If we had a chance to play those teams we lost to earlier in the season, we’d have a much better chance to come out on top. But we didn’t………and I think we needed those tough games for us to accelerate our developement as a team. And we did come out of thar tough schedule at 3-3, which is still pretty good since a lot had us starting 0-6 or 1-5.
What I loved most about yesterday was that it wasn’t all on our O’s shoulders. The other phases of the game stepped up. And when a team can do that, that is also a championship calibre team.
I can’t say for sure we’re gonna win the super bowl, but I know we’re gonna make on heck of a run at it.
I hope Doom is going to be able to play this weekend and its just a precaution that they had taken him out.
@ alex, Moreno did not get benched for that one fumble he had, that just wouldn’t make any sense on its own whatsoever. It may not even be the body of work over the years, I bet it runs much deeper than that, like in practice, who the man really is, how he acts and if he is teachable, touched on that a while back. IMO he has deep attitude issues that might be attention disorder related of some sort, like he has no clue how to settle himself down on the field and wait for any of his blocks to form, he just runs right into whatever is in front of him, sometimes he gets lucky, most times he doesn’t. It’s just like the farthest thing from organized football, it’s street ball and no way the coaches can have that liability on their team in their system, yes Moreno, there is a system, anyway that’s my take.
DJ, I’m in mourning, the guy is about to be back in Bronco uniform, what else can I say, haha.
Ayers, the only guy I picked correctly in the contest for the first draft of McD, at #17 if I recall, was just about to give up on one of my boys, so glad he is catching up at lightning speed now, looking forward to many years of contribution from him. B F E and I were always his most ardent backers.
But my other boy Willis, what a disappointment on that one play where he tries to dance around sideways instead of forward to get the first down which was only a couple yards away. And what a stare and lecture for Manning… When Manning speaks football players listen.
That’s simply amazing the amount of respect that immediately permeates the field when Manning walks on it, FROM EVERYBODY ONT THE FIELD, IN THE STADIUM AND BACK HOME ON TV SCREENS. I mean when he first comes on the field in any game, I all of a sudden get to experience a fuzzy warm security blanket type of feeling like this is going to be a comfortable game with no prayers needed, just a cruise control type of ride and my 58 year old heart loves nearly every minute of it.
Which brings up the fact that this is the least dramatic year on the blog we’ve ever had since I’ve been here, and by a mile.
No major issues of any kind.
The ones like I who chose to criticize what and whoever deserves it even if it means the top tier of the organization are remaining pretty quiet and happy since things are going smoothly in the right direction.
The ones who can’t stand that and keep on reminding us that we are mean nobodies to even dear criticize a professional football organization and telling it what to do since we are not NFL coaches, team managers or team owners ourselves,….well those are now utterly quiet too.
No more hardcore haters because McD is back in N-E.
No more overly religious followers posting bible verses left and right on a football blog in the name of their QB and no more posters with groupie inclinations and minute professional football knowledge since Tebow is in N-Y.
Other than a handful of exceptions, this season and this blog have made me feel like I’m slipping into a comfortably numb zone, big Pink Floyd fan here, LOL. I can honestly say that from 1974 on I have never felt quite that way watching a Bronco season with the exception being 1998, the season when we all knew we had the best team in football and won handily nearly every game by big margins, but we were going for back to back SB wins and that added a lot of excitement for me. This easy going feeling this year is definitely a first and maybe it’s just age catching up with me….
Either way here lies the danger obviously.
I hope no one in the organization or on the team feels remotely as comfortable as I do. And I do know that Manning will see to that and work out everyone as hard as he does himself so they can keep their eyes focused on the prize, I mean the all the way prize. Why not? I mean Elway brought Manning in to win more championships, period, no reason to wait til next year anymore. Seem like we said that for so many years, now I’d like to throw that saying out the window for good, at least for the forseeable future.
As you can tell I’m really enthused by our team and organization now, I’m just so comfortable though I hope I don’t sleep through any of it, just kidding, this boy NEVER misses a game. Last one was in the early nineties, too busy building a business back then, plus we stunk, LOL.
GO BRONCOS!!!
Yeah Willis got a arse chewing. He’ll get that figured out.
Yea I agree…I think he would upgrade our MLB position. He is a great tackler and will be much better than Brooking. Woodyard and Miller will not lose their spots to him. Woodyard has earned that starting role!
Yea let’s hope so strand..
He’s having an MRI on his shoulder today
It was quite a surprise to actually see our defense play better than our offense yesterday. Decker and Thomas need to work on catching the ball. Both deep balls that were thrown to them were catchable. Even the catch that Thomas had at the end of the game for like 46 yards was about dropped. Have to be better on offense. Hopefully they will touch on that a lot this week, especially with Willis’s fumbles!
@Cat, I’m with you, this team is championship caliber. I obviously thought so cause I put $100 on them go win the SB duting training camp.
No way DJ replaces Brooking and DJ is not a good tackler. He drag tacklees and lets guys gain 5 more yards every time.
RH709..
DJ is actually one of the best tacklers we have. That’s why he’s led our team for the past 4-5 years in tackling. Now I’m not sure if he’ll be ready to play or not and up to speed with our defense so it might make sense to bring him in slowly and put him in in only a few plays for the next two games to see if he is up to speed. But he is a sure tackler on defense though. I think him, Woodyard, and Miller for the rest of the year would be a great linebacking corps with having Trevathan and Brooking as backups. I’m loving our linebackers but I still say we draft a MLB with our 1st pick next year. Maybe the 2nd pick draft a Safety or good RB.
How’s this for a wild idea to give McG some competition becauser of his onset of fumblitis, trade our 7th rounds to the Jets for TT as RB?
When he was drafted I said then that the Broncos needed to do with him what the Packerts dids with a Heisman winning QB, Paul Hornung, make him a HOF calibre RB.
Was only able to catch a partial on the game at BW’s on my way home from a visit to the family. I saw Manning’s fumble and McGahee’s fumble but I also saw Tony Carter’s pick 6 and our D molesting Cam Newton. From the highlights and articles sounds like we had good game. Trindon is really brought some excitement back to the return game! Still need to clean up the give a ways.
I also loved them rubbing Newton’s Superman impression in his face.
RH709 I partially agree with you about DJ although he is a good tackler but what I saw from very close when he played inside is that he was not gap sound. In other words he was not in the right place or attacking the right gaps. Not attacking gaps at all. With that said I don’t see how we try to work him in to his natural WILL position because Woodyard and Trevathan have that locked down IMO.
One thing I will say about Trindon is hold on to tha ball all the way throught he endzone. On both his big returns he is close to letting the ball go before he breaks the plane.
brian…when he scores again (and he will) I bet he does something like kneeling and smashing the ball into the endzone turf. His team mates and coaches will not let that pass I’m sure.
Trindon flipped the ball pretty early last week on his KO return too.
Bay…with regards to Willis. We saw Trindon get 2 touches in a row and IMO that is a direct result of Willis not playing well.
Too bad I didn’t start Denver’s Defense in my fantasy league yesterday. I lost by 1.4 points…
The good- Defense with 7 sacks, multiple tackles for loss, Carter’s pick 6. Swarming to the ball. Sound tackling. Etc.
JDR has transformed this D. And I’m loving it
For the offense, simply our O-Line.
The bad- 3/13 on 3rd down. Obviously an area that can be improved. The WRs mental mistakes. Hopefully it’s just an issue with youth (the slot machine excluded) and can be corrected with time & effort.
The ugly- the fumbles. All 3 of them. Ok. The Manning fumble, strip sack. Give credit to the DE. But the stat where this is the most lost fumbles for PFM in a season. 2? Well we can live with that. McGahee and his fumbling issue. Can’t blame that on youth. Maybe it’s his style of running. Or the way he’s holding the ball. Not sure. But it needs to be corrected. Can’t have that trend continuing in December/January.
And then Holliday’s fumble. What was he thinking? Luckily, it didn’t cost us. Even though it should have. In the spirit of fairness. Even though I’m obviously biased. And glad it didn’t. That could have been a huge momentum swing.
I don’t mind TD celebrations at all. Nothing wrong with having a little fun. If I were a coach, my instructions – hand the ball to the ref after a signal of score, then do your thing…
All in all, love this win streak. Lets keep it rolling. I imagine KC will wind up without a win tonight. Leaving us in the driver’s seat for the AFC West. Setting up a huge matchup in Denver Sunday. A win, can set us up with a 4 game lead with 6 to play. What’s better than 4-0? 3-0 in the division!!! And push our streak to 5 wins. You know it…
Broncos Country Strong 2012!!!!!!
Having a lot of tackles and making sound tackles are two different things. DJ will see the field but it will be as a backup and he will be gone unless he drastically changes his play and his off field issues.
Bring Tebow back as a RB, yeah that’s just what this team needs.
The blog would pick up again though, LOL.
No arguments about my fading boy Willis, but Trindon isn’t exactly a security blanket, like sndvl says, but he sure is exciting.
Watching the game again right now. Is it me or after Decker dropped that ball in the 1st qtr…did he go straight to the dog house or what? He only had 2 for 15.
Decker needs to be humbled here and there, it will be good for him long run, get back down to earth kind of thing and make the simple plays.
And I will pray for something, for DMT’s legs to hold up and not reverse to brittle days.
Stokley is the bomb at his age though, now there is a security blanket if he can stay healthy….
Bay, I agree with all. Stokely might be one of the best route runners in the game.
and that was a catch that he made in the 2nd half.
Stokely was an awesome pick-up for our team……he can still make plays…and clutch ones at that. He’s playing like he still has a few years left in him yet. He’s a precise route runner, which is why he can continue to produce in an offense like Manning’s. So glad we have him……and I’m sure Manning is as well. He’s also making Decker and DT better route runners too.
I’m interested to see how they work DJ back into the D. Regardless of my dislike for the way he’s handled himself off the field, and the fact that I don’t think he’s ever played to his full potential, he can and will help our D get even better. He must be uber motivated to get on the field and show what he can do. That can only bode well for us.
Man…I just watched that safety again. Von doing the safety dance and Adams doing the superman…hilarious. I just watched it like 5 times in a row and rolling on the floor.
kk…where do you play DJ? He will not play his natural position and he is a downgrade IMO at the MIKE spot. So what do you do?
