Broncos at Eagles: Second Half Live Blog

December 27th, 2009 - 4:02pm by Gray Caldwell

Q3 15:00: Matt Prater’s kickoff is downed in the end zone for a touchback to start the half.

Q3 14:41: Philadelphia starts its drive with a 25-yard gain to the 45-yard line on a pass from Donovan McNabb to Jeremy Maclin. On second down, however, McNabb has a long time to throw and tries to loft a pass to DeSean Jackson, but Champ Bailey jumps the route and intercepts it. Denver will take over at midfield.

Q3 13:54: Knowshon Moreno carries for four yards on first down into Philadelphia territory, and an Eagle is down after the play. He walks off the field with the help of trainers — it was defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley. On second down, Kyle Orton is in the shotgun. he drops back and fires to Brandon Marshall, who avoids his first tackler and picks up yardage for a first down.

Q3 13:09: Philadelphia is called for a personal foul — 15 yards for a facemask by Trent Cole — giving the Broncos a first down at the 22-yard line. On the next play, Orton fakes a handoff to Moreno and fires to Marshall for a quick two-yard gain. On second down, Orton fakes a handoff to Moreno and fires again to Marshall for a first down.

Q3 11:30: Moreno takes the direct snap in the “Wild Horse” formation and picks up two yards on first down. On second down, Marshall gets a quick pass and gets inside the 10-yard line, but a penalty pushes the ball back — too many players in motion at the same time. That makes it 2nd-and-13, and Buckhalter is back in at running back. Orton fires to Tony Scheffler, but the tight end bobbles it and it is nearly intercepted after he tips it in the air.

Q3 10:30: On third down, Orton gets it to Daniel Graham, but he is hit hard and taken down at the 15-yard line. Now Prater is in to attempt a 33-yard field goal. It is up and in, and the Broncos narrow the Philadelphia lead.

EAGLES 20, BRONCOS 10

Q3 9:42: Prater’s kickoff is fielded for a touchback, so the Eagles will take over at their own 20-yard line.

Q3 9:14: LeSean McCoy picks up 11 yards before being knocked down by Brian Dawkins. On the ensuing first down, McNabb tries to find Leonard Weaver, but D.J. Williams is there in tight coverage to force an incompletion. Mario Haggan takes down McCoy after a gain of four yards, and the Eagles are faced with a 3rd-and-6. On a deep pass intended for DeSean Jackson, Champ Bailey is called for pass interference, giving Philadelphia a first down at the 24-yard line.

Q3 7:21: After a four-yard run and an incomplete pass, the Eagles have a third down. McNabb throws an incompletion under pressure, but there is a flag on the field. Once again it is on the Broncos — illegal hands to the face — which gives Philadelphia a first down. That’s the fourth first down the Eagles have been given on a penalty.

Q3 7:09: On the ensuing first down, McNabb fires a pass that is tipped by Renaldo Hill, but Jason Avant finds a way to haul it in anyway as he falls down in the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point is up and in.

EAGLES 27, BRONCOS 10

Q3 7:04: Alphonso Smith is back deep to receive the kickoff. The rookie takes it out a few yards past the 20-yard line — officially the 23-yard line.

Q3 6:59: On first down, Orton is forced to thrown an incompletion near Graham’s feet under pressure. On second down, Denver is called for a false start, backing up the line of scrimmage five yards. On 2nd-and-15 at the 18-yard line, Orton fakes a handoff to Moreno before being sacked at the 11-yard line. That makes it 3rd-and-22, and the play is a screen pass to Buckhalter. The former Eagle follows his blockers and bursts for the first down 33 yards later.

Q3 5:33: Orton finds Scheffler on the ensuing play for another first down at the Philadelphia 30-yard line — a 26-yard gain. On the next first down, Orton fires deep to the front left of the end zone under pressure, but there isn’t a receiver close. The quarterback is called for intentional grounding, making it 2nd-and-20 at the 40-yard line.

Q3 5:06: An Eagle was down after the play — cornerback Sheldon Brown — and he walks off the field flanked by trainers. The game resumes and Orton fires a pass toward the end zone with Scheffler streaking down the sideline — but Asante Samuel leaps into the air and grabs an interception before streaking back down the field into Denver territory. There is a flag on the field after the play.

Q3 4:51: Two fouls are enforced against Philadelphia after the interception. It is still the Eagles’ ball, but a 15-yard penalty on Macho Harris for launching himself into Scheffler is followed by a 5-yard penalty on Samuel for spiking the ball after the interception. Since the personal foul occured at the 4-yard line, it’s half the distance to the goal to the 2-yard line, then another half-the-distance penalty, so Philadelphia starts its drive at the 1-yard line.

Q3 4:11: McNabb fumbles the snap on first down but recovers it at the 1-yard line. Two incomplete passes later, Philadelphia punter Sav Rocca is forced to operate from the back of his own end zone. Alphonso Smith is back deep to return. He gets it to the Philadelphia 30-yard line after the 40-yard punt, but there’s a flag on the play.

Q3 3:57: A five-yard penalty on Philadelphia is marked off at the end of the run, so Denver takes over at the 25-yard line. On first down, Orton hands off to Moreno, who is dropped by two Eagles behind the line of scrimmage.

Q3 3:14: On second down, Orton finds Gaffney for a six-yard gain, and Russ Hochstein is down after the play.

Q3 3:10: Hochstein walks off the field flanked by trainers, and the Broncos have a 3rd-and-5. Orton finds Brandon Lloyd for an 8-yard gain and a first down at the 12-yard line. On the next play, he completes a pass to Marshall for a quick five-yard gain.

Q3 2:00: On 2nd-and-5, Orton gets it to Gaffney for the receiver’s second touchdown of the day. Prater’s extra point is up and in, and the gap is narrowed once again.

EAGLES 27, BRONCOS 17

Q3 1:42: This marks Gaffney’s first multi-touchdown game of his career. Prater’s kick is fielded at the 1-yard line, and Darrell Reid drills Macho Harris with an enormous hit, which forces a fumble. The Broncos recover the fumble and will take over at the Philadelphia 16-yard line.

Q3 1:16: On first down, Orton finds Marshall, but the receiver is tackled for no gain. On second down, Orton drops back and quickly finds Moreno in the middle of the field. The rookie sprints into the end zone for a touchdown, then sprints to the sideline to celebrate with Buckhalter. Prater’s extra point is up and in, and the Broncos pull to within three.

EAGLES 27, BRONCOS 24

**INJURY REPORT Hochstein has a knee injury, and is out for the remainder of the game.

Q3 0:53: McNabb’s pass is knocked down by Le Kevin Smith on first down. It was an attempted screen pass for Brian Westbrook. On second down, McNabb is in the shotgun. He takes the snap and is brought down by Vonnie Holliday for the sack. As the clock ticks down in the third quarter, the Eagles are faced with a 3rd-and-16 at their own 14-yard line. Renaldo Hill blitzes in for a third-down sack — a loss of four — to bring up a 4th-and-20 for Philadelphia at its own 10-yard line. That also brings the third quarter to a close.

Q4 14:48: Alphonso Smith is back deep to receive Rocca’s punt. He returns the 60-yard punt 21 yards to the Philadelphia 49-yard line. On first down, Orton is sacked trying to avoid pressure. That sets up 2nd-and-16 for Denver at its own 45-yard line. The ensuing play is a screen pass set up for Lloyd, who is tackled behind the line of scrimmage — a loss of two. That makes it 3rd-and-18, and the crowd is on its feet. Orton is in the shotgun, and the defense is called for a neutral zone infraction. Now it is 3rd-and-13 at the Denver 48-yard line. Orton is still in the shotgun, and the crowd is back on its feet. The quarterback launches downfield for Marshall, but the pass is broken up by Shelden Brown.

Q4 12:58: Mitch Berger punts 32 yards, and DeSean Jackson calls for a fair catch at the 20-yard line.

Q4 12:22: On first down, McNabb hands off to Weaver, who fights through some tackles before being tackled after two yards. McNabb’s pass is incomplete intended for Jackson on second down, setting up 3rd-and-8. McNabb is in the shotgun, and after nearly being sacked by Dumervil, lofts a pass toward Jackson. Champ Bailey dives in to break up the pass at the last second, however, forcing a punt. Bailey is down after the play, however.

Q4 12:09: Bailey walks off the field flanked by trainers, and Smith is back to return the punt. There are flags on the play after the 49-yard punt. It’s a personal foul for a facemask on the Eagles, moving the start of the drive to the Denver 47-yard line.

Q4 11:59: On first down, Buckhalter takes a carry for about three yards. On second down, Orton finds Gaffney, who turns outside and sets up a 3rd-and-2 at the Philadelphia 45-yard line. Orton avoids pressure and fires to a sliding Lloyd, who can’t haul it in. Berger is in to punt, and Jackson awaits inside his 10-yard line. Berger skies it and Jackson calls for a fair catch at the 19-yard line.

Q4 10:50: McNabb is in the shotgun on first down with Westbrook to his left. It’s a handoff to the running back, who is tackled by Holliday after a gain of two. On second down, the Eagles change formation and McNabb tries to throw downfield to Maclin, but Andre’ Goodman is there to help break it up and the ball squirts loose as the receiver hits the ground. Philadelphia calls its first timeout of the half.

Q4 10:00: On 3rd-and-9, McNabb drops back in the shotgun and finds Reggie Brown, but it’s short of the first down. That brings a punt on 4th-and-1 from the 28-yard line. The punt sails out of bounds at the Denver 44-yard line — a 28-yard punt.

Q4 9:30: A 5-yard pickup by Moreno on a first-down screen pass is followed by a Moreno run, which picks up three more yards. Now it’s 3rd-and-2 at the Philadelphia 48-yard line. Orton is in the shotgun, and Denver calls its first timeout of the half.

Q4 8:40: Orton avoids pressure and finds Gaffney yet again, who gets down to the Philadelphia 30-yard line for a first down. On the next play, Orton quickly fires to Lloyd, who dives forward for a yard. That makes it 2nd-and-9, and Orton gets it to Marshall, but the receiver is tackled behind the line of scrimmage.

Q4 6:50: On 3rd-and-13 at the 33-yard line, Orton is in the shotgun. He gets it to Buckhalter as he is nearly sacked, and the running back scrambles to the 28-yard line. It’s not a first down, but it shortens the Prater field goal attempt. The kicker is on the field for a 46-yard attempt — and it sails through the middle of the uprights to tie the game.

BRONCOS 27, EAGLES 27

Q4 5:57: David Bruton forces a fumble on the kickoff return, but the Eagles recover, and they will begin their drive at the 30-yard line. McNabb fakes a handoff and looks downfield, but Dumervil streaks into the backfield for his second sack of the day. He now owns the Broncos’ single-season franchise record for sacks with 17.

Q4 5:21: A false start penalty on the Eagles makes it 2nd-and-25 from the 15-yard line. McNabb is in the shotgun, and Dumervil bull rushes his blocker into the quarterback to knock him down as he lets a pass fly. The pass is high and incomplete out of bounds, bringing up third down. On third down, he scrambles out of the pocket, picks up 27 yards on a run and sets up a first down at the Philadelphia 42-yard line.

Q4 4:21: A two-yard run by Westbrook is followed by an incomplete pass intended for Maclin. That makes it 3rd-and-8 at the 44-yard line, and McNabb is in the shotgun. He completes it to Maclin, but it looks to be short of the first-down marker. The crowd is clamoring for the offense to stay on the field on 4th-and-1, but Rocca is in to punt.

Q4 3:08: A flag comes before the punt for delay of game, but the refs waive it off, saying, “We were a little slow spotting the ball for fourth down.” After the punt, the Broncos have a first down at their own 9-yard line.

Q4 3:00: Buckhalter picks up one yard on first down. On second down, Orton drops back into the shotgun. He finds Lloyd for a first down, but a flag is down — holding on the Broncos. Half the distance to the goal, 2nd-and-14.

Q4 2:18: Orton finds Gaffney again, but the receiver is taken down at the 10-yard line, making it 3rd-and-9 on the other side of the two-minute warning.

Q4 2:00: Orton is in the shotgun on 3rd-and-9. He takes the snap, drops back, avoids pressure and then scrambles out of the pocket and tries to pick up the first down on a run. He’s short of the first down, but there’s a flag on the play — holding on the offense. The penalty is declined, fourth down. Berger is in to punt. It is fielded by Jackson, but there is a flag on the field — but then it’s picked up by the refs, so the Eagles have a 1st-and-10 at the Denver 42-yard line.

Q4 1:05: After a two-yard run by McCoy, McNabb takes the snap in shotgun. He fires for Maclin, but it is ruled incomplete. The booth elects to challenge it, however.

Q4 0:59: The refs overturn the call and give the Eagles a first down at the 13-yard line after the completion. Westbrook takes a carry but is brought down immediately, then Denver call its second timeout of the half.

Q4 0:52: On second down, Weaver picks up three yards and Denver call its final timeout of the game. Philadelphia has a 3rd-and-7 at the 10-yard line.

Q4 0:07: McNabb takes the third down snap and takes a knee in the middle of the field for no gain, bringing up fourth down. Philadelphia calls a timeout, and David Akers it on to attempt a field goal.

Q4 0:04: Akers hits the 28-yard field goal and the eagles lead the game by three.

EAGLES 30, BRONCOS 27

Q4 0:00: The game is over after the Broncos attempt a few laterals on the kickoff return, but the game comes to a close after a Bronco is tackled out of bounds. Denver falls to 8-7, and the Kansas City Chiefs head to INVESCO Field at Mile High for the regular-season finale.

    Still in it. Wow!

  2. Firefighter7134 says:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario paints the playoff picture very nicely. Looks like we need the Bengals to win and then either the Ravens or Steelers to lose.

Even though I am a die hard Broncos fan and want to see them make the playoffs, I don’t think they deserve it. McD’s coaching is not worthy of being a playoff team.

I just watched ESPN and they were talking about how Moreno wasn’t worth the 12th overall pick. He has no 100 yard rushing games and over the past few games is averaging less than 3 yards per carry. I know I am beating a dead horse, but we could have benefited all season if McD used Hillis more.

  3. broncofannsd says:

Here are the playoff scenarios according to Vic Carucci. If I am reading this correctly, if the Jets and/or Ravens lose, the Broncos are in.

    5. Denver Broncos (8-7)
Week 17 opponent: Kansas City (3-12)
Outlook: Despite losing to Philadelphia, the Broncos remain very much in play for a wild-card spot. They currently hold down the No. 5 seed but next week when the common opponents tiebreaker kicks in, Denver could be on the outside looking in. The Broncos, who have the same conference mark as New York and Baltimore, would lose out to the Jets (common opponents) and Ravens (head-to-head) in tiebreakers. So they need to beat the Chiefs in Week 17 and get some help.

    6. N.Y. Jets (8-7)
    Week 17 opponent: Cincinnati (10-5)
Outlook: The Jets took advantage of the fact that the Indianapolis Colts pulled Peyton Manning and other starters in the second half, and scored a victory that kept their postseason hopes alive. All they need to do is beat the Bengals, who figure to be resting their starters, and they’re in. So much for Rex Ryan’s premature declaration last week that his team was out of the playoffs.

    7. Baltimore Ravens (8-7)
Week 17 opponent: at Oakland (5-10)
Outlook: With Sunday’s loss, the Ravens missed a great opportunity to reach the playoffs. Still, a win in Oakland next week puts Baltimore into the postseason for the second consecutive year. The Raiders, however, won’t be easy. Among their five victories this season, four have come against playoff contenders (Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Denver).

    8. Houston Texans (8-7)
Week 17 opponent: New England (10-5)
Outlook: The No. 3 seed is on the line for the Patriots, so the Texans won’t have an easy victory. But they’ll need it — along with help — if they are to get into the postseason for the first time.

    9. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-7)
Week 17 opponent: at Miami (7-8)
Outlook: The Steelers must beat the Dolphins and get some help. Like Houston, their 5-6 record in conference games has put them behind Denver, Baltimore and New York.

    10. Miami Dolphins (7-8)
    Week 17 opponent: Pittsburgh (8-7)
Outlook: The Dolphins are the longest of longshots, but if they beat the Steelers and get help — lots of it — they can sneak in. Not likely with a conference mark that would only be .500.

    11. Jacksonville Jaguars (7-8)
Week 17 opponent: at Cleveland (4-11)
Outlook: Beating the Browns, who are on a three-game winning streak, is hardly a given. And even if the Jaguars win, they’ll need pretty much everyone ahead of them to lose.

  4. BoltRaiderHater says:

I know that the Broncos have blown every opportunity that they have had, but the thing that makes me mad is the refs taking away opportunities and then handing them to the other team. The BS holding calls when we get a big play, where was the holding call when mcnabb ran for 26 on 3rd & 25? or what ever it was. Holding is such a subjected call left up to the official, I say the NFL make it fair across the league and do away with it. The only holding that should be a penelty is if a player is taken to the ground, where its a no brainer for the official. Every single play there is holding. I don’t know if its just me, but it seems like the team that is expected to win gets a lot of help from the refs. If this keeps up then I might have to change my handle to “RedwingStarHater” and do away with the nfl.

    GO BRONCOS !!!

  5. baylinorcrush says:

brocofannsd, you are correct but this is what I had to say about it last night:

TRB, like I said no way the Raiders win over Baltimore to get a worse draft pick and get us in the playoffs, Al Davis hates us, and no way the Jets lose to Cinci because Cinci has clinched their division and cannot improve into a bye week seed, plus the Jets win and they are in. Sorry….

The season is over as I see it.

  6. broncofanlvnm says:

So as I see it, it comes down to this. We must first beat the Chefs. Then two of the following three teams need to lose: Jets (win common opponents) , Steelers (win head to head) and Ravens (win head to head). The Jets have the Bengals at home. The Bengals may or may not find it important to win this game as they could get the #3 seed IF the Pats lose at Houston who is also still on life support for a wild card. Fat chance the Steelers lose at Miami and Baltimore is not the kind of team to lose a game like this in Oakland when all they have to do is win and their in. It looks pretty bleak they way I see it. I predict wild cards going to Pittsburgh and Baltimore and a Denver win to close out the season against the Chefs. Oh well at least a winning record for our Broncos at 9-7. It looks like more re-building for next year.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Well you guys, it looks like I’ll have to wait to post the predictions result, it’s not letting me post it right now.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

broncofanlvnm, bingo, you guys are starting to get it, LOL. TRB and I were trying to explain it all last night, but to no avail, no one listened, how weird…

  9. baylinorcrush says:

They probably didn’t want to listen because they wanted to hear better scenarios, LOL.

  10. broncofanlvnm says:

    Baylinorcrush,
It would help a lot if the networks would take into account the tie breakers at least in week 16. I know that things could change if you take them into account earlier in the season, but not a lot could change in the second to last week. It would make it less confusing for the fans if this were done. A lot of fans are just getting their hopes up for a big let down and more confusion as to why the Broncos aren’t in after next week.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

You are correct, this is why I posted the following last night:

A word of warning, don’t get all hyped up about us being the 5th seed on all the playoff scenarios, that’s only because they don’t account for all the tie breaker procedures until the completion of the last week as TRB said above, like the head to head tie breaker, which is most likely how we will miss the playoffs. Just saying.

  12. broncofanlvnm says:

How do they have us at the 5th seed anyway. I guess it’s based on conference record?

  13. baylinorcrush says:

I think it’s conference record and strength of schedule, the latter is what puts us over the top… for now…. but it’s a mirage next week head to head comes into play…

  14. broncofanlvnm says:

I’m really starting to get the hang of this internet thing. LOL! If you go to NFL.com and check under standings, then by conference, you will see us at #5.

  15. brian_schneider says:

I didn’t get to watch the game but it turned out to be a good one with the exception of the loss. I caught the score at halftime and I wasn’t all too happy. I’m still not quite sure what to think of our team. Overall we’ve had a descent season, we’ve shown some good and bad, we’ve pretty much blown the expectations of what some thought we’d do at the begginning of the season (3-13), and we’ve got some young guys that stepped up and could potentially make an impact in the future. At the same time we come back from a 13 point deficit to an explosive Philly team, but we slack off against a struggling Raiders and Redskins team???
We still have one more game against KC and I hope we just blow them up, just out of pure anger. We’ll finally be over the .500 mark and have a winning season. I love this team and I’ll support them until my last breath, but I don’t think that we deserve to go to the playoffs. I said this my whole life, if a team has to worry about who wins or loses to get into the playoffs then they have no business being there in the first place. We let it slip out of our hands. We were in control, we were in the drivers seat, but now we have to rely on some other team controlling what we do. The season ain’t over but it has definately been a learning one. I guess even after a face lift, you just can’t go flaunting around right away, gotta take the bandages off slowly and carefully. We’ve learned some things and I hope that McD has learned some things about playcalling.
Anyway regardless of postseason lets just get a win against KC and make it a winning season.
I’m still not quite sure if McD thinks that his predictable playcalling is good, or if he’s just too stuburn to switch it up. Remember when we were going deep against WAS, then we haven’t done too much of that lately. It seems like the D coordinator on the other side of the field already knows whats going to be called. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice same on the playcalling.

    Go Broncos!!!!

  16. baylinorcrush says:

Either way we made our own destiny many moons ago when we lost at home against SD, at Washington and last week at home against the Raiders, they have no one to blame but themselves for the predicament they are in now. Just live and learn. Must win games are not just the ones you must mathematically have at the end of the season to fend off elimination, they are the winnable games you must win in order to achieve your goals regardless of when they are played. The proof is now right in front of their eyes.

  17. broncofannsd says:

baylinorcrush… I read what you had to say last night, but this is the NFL and on any given Sunday, anything is possible. If you go by logic, you are probably correct in saying that the Raiders and Bengals won’t show up next week, but then again, Denver should have beat the Redskins, Chargers and Raiders. I’m not sure if they deserve to be in the playoffs, but anything can happen.

A lot of frustrating things to take away from this season. Hopefully McD can be more creative in his play calling next season. I am sick of seeing screen after screen after screen. How many times do you have to run the same play before you realize it’s not working. New Coaches/Players = same results. Start strong, finish weak and choke their way out of the playoffs. Hey Coach, maybe those games against the Redskins and Chargers were must wins after all. Totally and completely disappointed…

  18. brian_schneider says:

I’m still not quite sure what to think. We have a new system, new coaches, and a bunch of new players, but we still started strong and clawed our way to the end. What do we attibute this to?

  19. broncofanlvnm says:

I wish someone could put their finger on what happened after the bye week to cause this team to do a complete 180. Maybe it would have been better if we didn’t start off winning 6 in a row. Maybe it would have been better if we started something like 3-3 or 2-4 and then did the 180 to a winning record instead of a dismal 2-5 since the bye week. idk. Like you said Brian you have to win the games you are supposed to. Especially that Redskins and Raiders games. I was at the Raiders game, and I’m telling you the fans have really had enough of this BS! Broncos better win their last game or I’m afraid their could be a riot in Denver next week!

  20. broncofanlvnm says:

    Sorry 2-7 since bye week.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

brian, man, you do miss a lot of games, you missed a dandy yesterday, as I posted earlier the team can hold it’s head high on this one, all out 110% effort. Defensive penalties killed us, McNabb’s lone run for about 30 yards on 3rd and 25 in their own end killed us. Us in the fourth quarter starting two drives in a row at midfield and coming out with no points killed us. The medical ward we found ourselves in killed us. The fact that they made all their circus catches and we made none of ours killed us and Stockley killed us single handedly when he decided to high five the ref, LOL, and got ejected. Like I said, with all that it was 27-27 with 4 seconds to go, the team played their heart out and McD also opened up the playbook. However all too little too late, kind of a microcosm of every single game we played this year, slow start, too big a hole to dig out of.

  22. broncofanlvnm says:

I’m not really sure, but since Stokley got ejected, doesn’t that give him an automatic one game suspension as well. So does that mean he can’t play next week also?

  23. baylinorcrush says:

No need to bring up the must win game thing again, back to the San Diego game, I knew it was a must win game so did Rocky mts 69, broncosfan01, tnalen66, broncomania56 and broncsfan 83, the rest of the world, including the team, the coaches, Mike Rice and just about every other blooger said no, this is an important game but not a must win… same with Wahington and Oakland. I honestly don’t know how these folks go at gauging the games importance, I guess with a calculator so they know when mathematically it becomes a must win game. RRRRAAAGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! WAKE UP, sorry, I forgot, it’s most likely too late now. Well, WAKE UP FOR NEXT YEAR ANYWAY.

  24. broncofannsd says:

Losing Ryan Harris really hurt us this year. Our O-Line wasn’t the same when he got hurt. Let’s face it, the play calling and offensive game planning sucked. McD constantly talks about situational football, yet certain players remained on the bench during key situations in various games this year. With exception to the Redskins game, the deep ball/threat was non-existent this year, but at least we got to see screens and Know-Show up the middle over and over and over. I’m not sure what to think of Know-Show at this point, but as many have said, you’ve got to wonder what could have been if we drafted a defensive player, especially when already had a solid back field with Buck and Hillis.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

The league will review the play, asess a fine if they see fit and could add more suspension, but I seriously doubt it, it was a very minor infraction to the no contact with officials rule.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

As for Moreno, I voiced my discontent here all year, and I heard it from the bloggers plenty, well it seems I’m not alone anymore.. I would of picked Beanie Wells had I picked a RB so he could fit McD’s power running scheme much better than Moreno. However the guy who fell to our pick and we passed on to my greatest chagrin was Orapko, that was the guy with the 12 th pick, he went right after us with the 13th.

McD had the last laugh and chose Know-Show for some odd reason. Just like you, I thought we would choose Orakpo considering we had a solid backfield. Unfortunately it’s a moot point now.

I’m not sure we are better off than last year. The D still needs help. With exception of Clady and Harris, the O-Line needs help. And then there is Kyle Orton. I like the guy and think he is a great team player with a winning attitude, but I’m not confident that he’ll take this team to the SB. Maybe he’ll make huge improvements during the offseason and surprise us all. He needs to work on his pocket awareness. Overall, I thought he did a pretty decent job this year.

    ARE YOU FREAKIN’ KIDDING ME?

I wonder how many teams in the NFL (head coaches that is) would take a receiver like Marshall who has posted 3 years of 100+ catches, is stronger than probably any other reciever, has speed and height and make is primary route screens & quick slants???

I can still taste the vomit in my mouth watching this play calling! Scheffler’s missed opportunity on the deep ball, good call! at least they tried it! BUT WHY WOULDN’T YOU LET MARSHALL MAKE A PLAY FOR SOME BALLS??????? OUR TIGHT END RUNS A GO ROUTE UP THE SIDELINE BUT OUR PRIME TIME RECIEVER RUNS SCREENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    SICK TO MY STOMACH!

  29. broncofanlvnm says:

IMO the one deep ball they did throw to Marshall that got picked, he wasn’t aggressive at all it going for it. With his size, he should have gotten in front of the defender and made the catch. That was pretty weak Brandon.

  30. broncofannsd says:

Broncfalls… at least McD was predictable in his play calling and called the screen or Know-Show up the middle over and over and over and over. I am glad Shanny was replaced so we can watch weak play calling and see the same results at the end of the season… What a joke!

  31. baylinorcrush says:

That INT pass was intended to Scheffler not Marshall, gotta be correct went calling players name. And you are right Scheffler should of come back to the ball and defended Assante Samuel from making the INT.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

    That was for broncofanlvnm.

  33. broncofannsd says:

    Hey Coach,

Maybe in the 2010 draft, you can take another RB or trade up to select another 2nd or 3rd round DB. Don’t worry about addressing the O-Line or D-Line. It’s not important, just like the Chargers game at home wasn’t a must win.

Always a fan to the day I die, but a pissed off one until this BS changes.

  34. broncofanlvnm says:

My bad. Sorry Brandon. Don’t know how I mix him up with Scheffler. Still was a weak effort on the play, but that play did seem to turn things around for us in the game after the penalties were enforced and then we came back to tie it.

  35. brian_schneider says:

@baylinorcrush: Actually this is the first game I’ve missed. The Thanksgiving Day game I was fortunate enough to watch when I initially thought I wasn’t going to be able to. I was driving back from the family so I listened to some of it, but I don’t have Sirius or anything like that and AM wasn’t really coming in all that well. Yeah it looks like I did miss a good one. So why did Stokely get ejected?

  36. Anniyan says:

As most of the fans here, I am also so disappointed. But let us be honest, at the very onset of this season, we were not even talking about Playoffs, but now we are bashing the coaches for not making it to playoffs. As all of you have mentioned, I am also ready to point out to the mistakes, the games we lost that we were supposed to win and what not..i am mad too. I still believe in miracles and wish the results pan out in our luck next week to get us in to playoffs. However the season ends, 8-8, 9-7, playoffs, no playoffs, I am glad that we showed in many instance that we can play as a team and can gel together. Hope we have better goals and objectives, make use of every oppurtunity and not take any games light, I see that it comes back to bite really hard :(

    Good Luck Broncos!

But still I am praying and hoping that things work out in our way.

  37. broncofannsd says:

Anniyan… I didn’t have high expectations for this season. However, I did expect better play calling and offensive game planning, along with not letting certain players sit on the bench when they could have been very valuable, especially during key short yardage situations.

Like you, I still hope for the best, but it’s a long shot. The Bengals vs. Jets game is being pushed to Sunday night. Bengals haven’t been playing well and since it’s the final Sunday Night game before the end of the season, Bengals might actually show up and try to keep the winning moment going into the playoffs.

  38. baylinorcrush says:

brian, Stockley got upset when he was held on a catch attempt in the middle, and did not get the call, so he vehemently was asking for a flag, went all the way down field to the backfield judge to let him know what he thought, and while walking away from him he slapped the judge’s hand with his own = ejection.

  39. Broncosforlife80 says:

only 2 teams in the history of the NFL have failed to make the playoffs after starting 6-0…last year we were the first to blow a 3 game lead with 3 to go in quite some time and now we could be only the third team ever to not make it after 6-0 you know what everone is saying especially the media right now and especially if we dont make it FLUKE!
    i dont wanna hear it!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

  40. Anniyan says:

I agree with you broncofannsd – i am as disappointed as you are. I am just trying to find some positives so that I can feel better, it is becoming a culture that we lose to raiders atleast once in the season even if they have the worst record.

I don’t have the wealth of football knowledge that most of them possess here in this Forum, I came to this country in 1997, fell in love with the game and has been a Bronco fan since then. Every year it is hard to see them not making the playoffs (exception – 2005). It is good to have this forum to vent out the frustration. Whatever happens however it ends, we still love and have faith in Broncos.
