KICKOFF: Matt Prater is in to kick off to start the second half. Raymond Radway is deep to receive, and he finds some room out to about the 24-yard line. There’s a flag on the play — illegal block in the back on the Cowboys. That pushes the ball back to the 10-yard line, where Stephen McGee steps in under center as quarterback.
Q3 14:28: After a 1-yard run on first down, Jason Hunter chases McGee out of bounds, but the quarterback throws the ball away before he steps out, making it third-and-9. On third down, McGee finds a receiver after getting nice blocking in the pocket — it’s an 11-yard gain for a first down. On the ensuing first down, McGee fakes a handoff and fires downfield under pressure from Derrick Harvey, and the pass is incomplete thanks to tight coverage by Cassius Vaughn, who tipped the pass away at the last moment.
Q3 12:56: On second down, Lee Robinson blasts the Cowboys running back after a gain of just a yard, making it third-and-9. Before the next play, the Cowboys are called for a false start. Now third-and-14, McGee is chased out of the pocket by Jason Hunter, and though McGee finds room to take off down the field on a scramble, he’s stopped short of the first down. But now there’s a flag on the play — illegal contact on Perrish Cox, giving the Cowboys a free first down. Head Coach John Fox is not happy with the call on the sideline.
Q3 11:39: After a 2-yard run by Lonyae Miller, McGee finds Kevin Ogletree for an 11-yard gain and a first down. On the next play, Kevin Vickerson and Lee Robinson hit McGee, but he gets the pass off and it flies out of bounds for an incompletion. Now second-and-10, McGee lines up in the shotgun. Phillip Tanner gets the carry on a draw play, and the running back picks up 6 yards before Nate Jones brings him down. On third-and-4, McGee is hit again, but again gets the pass off — and again it’s incomplete out of bounds. That makes it fourth down, and Cox is deep to receive the punt. He calls for a fair catch at the 19-yard line. Looks like it’s Brady Quinn’s turn to take over the offense.
Q3 9:19: A few notes from the first half: Matt Willis leads all receivers with 50 yards on two catches, including a 43-yarder from Tim Tebow. Speaking of Tebow, he finished the first half 6-of-7 for 91 yards and a quarterback rating of 118.8. Kyle McCarthy led all Broncos defenders with three tackles, including an 8-yard sack. Denver’s first-team offense marched 74 yards on 13 plays on its opening drive.
Q3 8:39: Quinn’s first drive ends after three plays — a 5-yard run by Brandon Minor, followed by two incompletions. Britton Colquitt is in to punt, and his kick is fielded at about the 27-yard line. The 49-yard punt is taken to the 36-yard line before David Bruton made the tackle.
Q3 8:22: McGee scrambles to his right for 11 yards on the first play of the drive. On the ensuing first down, the quarterback hands off to Lonyae Miller, who picks up a yard before Lee Robinson and Braxton Kelley make the stop. On second down, McGee seems to have a miscommunication with his receiver, as he throws the ball directly out of bounds while the receiver kept sprinting up the sideline. Now faced with third-and-9, McGee lines up in the shotgun. He squeezes a ball past Vaughn’s coverage to Tysson Poots for a first down at the Denver 43-yard line.
Q3 6:14: The Denver defensive backups are struggling to get pressure on McGee, as he sits in the pocket and finds Dwayne Harris for a 26-yard gain to the 17-yard line. The defensive unit can still hit hard, as Phillip Tanner just found out on a run cut short by Mario Haggan after just a yard. On second-and-9, it’s the McGee-to-Harris connection again, this one setting up a first-and-goal at the 7-yard line.
Q3 4:24: On first down, McGee fakes a handoff and rolls to his right, finding Raymond Radway for the first touchdown of the game. David Buehler’s extra point is good, and the Cowboys grab their first lead of the game.
COWBOYS 10, BRONCOS 9
Q3 4:09: After a touchback, Quinn and the offense take over at their own 20-yard line. On first down, the quarterback falls down as he hands off to Brandon Minor, who picks up a yard on the carry. On second down, it’s Minor again, and he gains 3 yards. Third-and-6 has Quinn in the shotgun. He takes the snap and gets it to Virgil Green for what looks like a first down — there’s a flag on the play, however. Pass interference on Green, negating the catch and pushing the ball back 10 yards. On third-and-16, Quinn finds David Anderson, but the receiver is 2 yards short of the first down. Colquitt is in to punt, and he booms it to about the 15-yard line. Again Dwayne Harris loses yards on the return, as he’s taken down by David Bruton at the 13-yard line.
Q3 1:32: Phillip Tanner takes a carry and it looks like he’s wrapped up, but he escapes a pile for an 11-yard gain and a first down. On the ensuing play, Tanner doesn’t get away — and barely gets back to the line of scrimmage as Haggan and Quinton Carter stop him after a gain of 1. On second down, Shaun Chapas has a pass go through his hands for an incompletion, bringing up third-and-9. McGee lines up in the shotgun, drops back and is quickly sacked by Jason Hunter, bringing up fourth down as the third quarter comes to a close.
Q4 15:00: Perrish Cox is back to field the punt, and he takes it at about the 40-yard line and gains 6 or 7 yards — but there’s a flag on the play for unsportsmanlike conduct on the kicking team, giving the Broncos 15 yards from the end of the play. The ball is now at the Dallas 39-yard line, where Quinn and the offense will begin their drive.
Q4 14:49: Mark Dell gets involved right away to start the drive — streaking down the sideline for a big completion from Quinn, and then breaking away from two defenders to tack on a few more yards. All-in-all it’s a 26-yard gain to the 13-yard line. On the ensuing first down, Quinn holds his hands in the air for a touchdown virtually as soon as he handed the ball to Jeremiah Johnson, and the running back delivers, bursting through a big hole in the line for Denver’s first touchdown of the night. Steven Hauschka is in to kick this time, and his extra point is good as the Broncos retake the lead.
BRONCOS 16, COWBOYS 10
Q4 14:14: Hauschka’s kickoff goes for a touchback, and McGee is back in to start his drive at the 20. He avoids pressure and gets it to Chapas for a 4-yard gain. A run by Tanner for no gain is followed by what looks like some busted coverage for Denver. A short pass to Harris turns into a 76 yard sprint to the end zone for a touchdown. The snap for the extra point is botched and never gets to the holder, however, so the game is now tied.
BRONCOS 16, COWBOYS 16
Q4 12:36: Brandon Bing is deep to field the kickoff, and the rookie finds a little space before being brought down at the 21-yard line. Quinn is back in under center for another drive. He quickly hits Jamel Hamler, who sidesteps a couple defenders for a 6-yard gain. It’s another run by Johnson on second down, and the speedy back picks up 3 yards, setting up third-and-1. Johnson picks up the first down, but Stanley Daniels is down after the play.
Q4 10:39: Minor takes a carry on the ensuing first down, picking up a yard. Second down is a play-action pass to Eron Riley, who picks up a first down. Quinn looks for a wide open Hamler in the middle of the field on the next play, but his pass is batted down at the line of scrimmage.
Q4 9:07: Johnson picks up 10 yards on the next play, giving the Broncos a first down at the Dallas 40-yard line. The next play is a play-action pass to Riley — the defense is focusing on Johnson after his recent string of tough runs. The ensuing first down is a run by Minor, and the back picks up 2 yards. Quinn’s pass is incomplete on second down, bringing up third-and-8, and the crowd — still a large number of people — is getting loud. Quinn is in the shotgun and he finds D’Andre Goodwin for a first down inside the 10-yard line. That makes it first-and-goal at the 8-yard line.
Q4 6:30: A run for no gain is followed by a play-action pass that is broken up in the end zone, setting up third-and-goal. Quinn is in the shotgun. He takes a los wnap and buys time int he pocket before finding Riley in the back of the end zone. The receiver goes high to catch it and bring his feet down in bounds. The Broncos retake the lead, and Hauschka’s extra point is up and in as the Cowboys Stadium crowd boos.

Q4 5:44: Hauschka kicks and its returned by returned to the DAL 35-yard line.
Q4 5:44: After a 4-yard run, Tanner takes the second down carry 12 yards for a first down at the Denver 49.
Q4 4:14: McGee’s first down pass in incomplete. On second down, Tanner runs 11 yards for another first down.
Q4 3:22: Tanner runs for 2 yards on first down. McGee goes deep down the sideline on second down but its too far and incomplete. Third and 8 upcoming.
Q4 2:43: McGee completes over the middle to Dwayne Harris for two yards. 4th and 6 now.
Q4 2:00: 2-minute warning stops play.
Q4 2:00: McGee goes over the middle and completes to Rucker for a first down all the way to the DEN 5-yard line.
Q4 1:09: After the 26-yard pass, Tanner runs up the middle for no gain. Second and goal now.

Q4 0:15: Its a 13-yard TD pass from McGee to Harris. DAL will go for 2 point try.
Q4 0:15: McGee finds Rucker in the end zone on the roll out and Dallas takes a 24-23 lead with 15 seconds remaining.

Ouch! That does suck for us. lol
dang that harris kid sure knows how to go after a teams 3rd D
they will run lol
Boooooo
That is sad!! Say bye bye Nate Jones!!!
OWNED lol
thats effin weak…
Double Booooo
And we choke when we need the D the most. All I can say is THANK GOD that isn’t our starting defense.
hmm weber hail mary to end the game? lol
lmao ashley… thank god in deed lol
LIKE I SAID, GOODBYE NATE JONES, I WILL NOT MISS YOU AT ALL!!!!!
GO WEBER!
Jones gave up the TD and 2 point conversion!!
TEAM looks good though, Later.
Proud of are team tonight, we looked great in a lot of areas
same old same old broncos
got hopes upfor weber and nothing darn
Yea we looked good in all areas!! Love to see that Tebow went 6/7 passing and should have had a TD if it hadn’t got called back!! He was statistically our best QB tonight!! And please, if anyone saw the game, please tell me that you saw Orton throw 3 STRAIGHT incomplete passes out of bounds in the red zone and made us settle for a FG!! Nothing has changed with him and I DO NOT want to see him doing that all this season!! I want Tebow to get some first team reps and get some more practice! How awesome would it be if he beat out Orton in the preseason!!
But like Bay always says, I am going to start rooting for Jones to get cut!!! He is soooo small and always gives up the big play!!!! I mean I have a great question, why did we cut alphonso and keep jones???? At least phonzie had more potential!! I wished we had him than jones any day!! Always thought that was a VERY bad move!!
Typical pre-season game … first team guys looked pretty good … we just have to finish the drives … Orton looked pretty good – showed his experience … Tebow – so-so … Quinn, hard to tell w/ 3rd vs 3rd – but I wouldn’t be scared if he had to come into a game … nice to be at home the next two weeks … lots of time now to prepare … I think they know the next 10 guys to cut …
Questioning anything that happened during the McDaniels era is probably a bad idea… most of his moves were completely unjustified. Phonzie is just another example unfortunately
You know, you guys can keep banging away for Tebow – it’s like beating your heads against a wall … he’s NOT going to become the first string QB … you got stars in your eyes … that’s just the way it is … live with it …
Actually, it’s getting damn old to come on this blog and hear the same old, same old about Tebow … it does nothing to further an intelligent discussion about our Broncos … so, until the season starts, I’m out of here … bye, Bay …
Yeah, good game. Broncos looked good .Boy those no name recievers were really good Dell and the guy who got hurt I hope he’s OK.Immeadiatly we can see how much better this admin is at evaluating talent than any time I can remember(I go back to 75).We all heard how much better Brady was and sure enough he was pretty good, he really throws a pretty ball much better pocket presence.By the way if you bet on the spread the Broncs covered(no money no bet and I always take the money line when Broncos are underdogs so I would have lost.Did you notice Jeremy Beal just horrible workout numbers made a bunch of plays, and it will be really hard to cut Hunter.Good work Go Broncos!!I still want Orton as my starter but the most fun of all will be seeing how fast Tebow can improve ,Quinn too.
Tebow so-so and Orton looked pretty good? That is just false. Tebow looked good, Orton looked so-so if anything. Tebow still needs to be more poised and make quicker reads but the bottom line is he moves the chains and 6/7 is a solid day slinging the pigskin
Ok cya WieminCA
bullrush ur not a fan get off the site, Bro im with you brother I seen alot tonight thank you. All you wanna be coaches and players quit ur jobs tomorrow I think you have a carreer in the NFL. If you so called Broncos fans didnt see anything with the first drive and ran the ball inside the twenty and the drive stalled and kicked a field goal wasnt that great to run the ball to the one yard line then call a pass WOW that must of ben Otorns fault. Hey Bay what did you SEE.
Broncobet-
Its going to be very intriguing on which Dlinemen get cut this year. We have a ton of depth with Hunter, Harvey, Beal, McBean, Vickerson, Thomas, etc. I like them all lol
I will give everyone my Cons and Pros of tonight’s game!!
Pros…
Our whole defense looked really good in my opinion!
All QB’s looked like they have improved!
Tebow and Quinn looked really good!
Miller was always around the ball.
All WR’s played very well!
Vaughn looked amazing today!
Prater went an amazing 4-4 in FG’s
Jerimiah Johnson looked really good and our running team looks like it has improved greatly!! Moreno and McGahee look to be a very dynamic duo!
Cons…
We had several penalties on 3rd down that gave them the 1st down so have to limit those
And as I have said before, Nate Jones was absolutely horrible and was a huge disappointment!! We need to cut him very quickly!!
Also as I have stated, Orton went three straight passes where he threw the ball out of play in the red zone and had to go for a FG!! We will not be able to hang with teams this year with only FG’s!! Tebow is a red zone machine and he proved that also tonight with getting that TD but it getting called back!
That was basically all the pros and cons that I saw but I will be going back and watching the whole game over again!!
Penalties were a big concern. I’m sure we will have that straightened out before week 1 though
Also on the Con list, as miller pointed out, passing on 1st down and goal and not running the ball!! I am sure that Orton made that mistake as Fox loves to run the ball!! But yes, we ALL saw how Orton buckled under pressure tonight and couldn’t step up to make the play and get the TD!!
Yes Atwater,
I am sure that Fox will fix that for us!! Also on my pro list up above, Colquitt looked extremely good tonight and he looks to have an amazing NFL pro career!! That boy has a lead foot!!
Tough to call Orton out on the first possession of the first preseason game as buckling under pressure… just my opinion.
I am not saying that I am judging his whole preseason game on just tonight and the first preseason game, it’s just that has what he has needed to work on desperately and it doesn’t look like he has learned anything from that!! I guess we will see but he is in a QB competition so you think he would be fighting for the score when he clearly didn’t!
I’d love to cut Jones but our secondary depth is pretty weak. Bailey, Goodman, Thompson, Cox (which is a touch n go situation), and Vaughan. That leaves us with 4-5 corners. We might be stuck with Jones but hopefully Vaughn steals his spot
Yea it’ll be something to keep an eye on next week. Definitely need to see TDs on the board I agree
Yea Atwater,
Vaughn definitely stepped up tonight!! Anyone would be better than Jones!! He is way too small and doesn’t cover well at all and clearly seemed that he didn’t know who to cover!! On the last TD and the 2 point conversion, those were his men to cover and he’s just looking at them when they are catching the ball!! He leaves them wide open!!
I told my friends who I was watching it with that they would throw his way on the 2 pt conversion and sure enough…2 pt conversion successful!!
WieminCA just got added to my, “Sucks to be you” List when Tebow is making the pro bowl teams, wins and playoff runs. Nothing new, everyone is scared of Tebow style QB’s. Vick wasn’t getting any support either going into his second year. Let’s see what happens. Young was written off, Brady, Rodgers were both unheard of. We all shall see, but it really does kill me, those that say absolutely he will fail.
He was bad all night no doubt.
The last TD falls on the middle linebacker dropping back way too far in the zone. Jones was near the play as well though
stevecan2-
Yea WieminCA is clearly a Tebow hater. You can’t say Orton was good and Tebow was so-so that just is flat out not true. And then he follows it up by whining about how all this blog ever does is talk about Tebow and Orton. Hmm hypocrite? I think so
Yeah, it’s always heated. My thing is, I like Orton. Always have, always will. But in comparison to Tebow, not even a comparison. I never in my life would have seen Tebow coming to Denver. Now that he is here, Orton took a back seat in my mind.
I think bay and all the others on here should get together, put all your moneys together and buy a team because to me you really sound like you know what your talking about WOW. Ive been a bronco fan forever you are the worst fans ever at this point, just keep listening to bay. If they were to start Tebow tomorrwo and you didnt like it, you would blame them twice. Myself what I saw tonight that we were pretty deep in all aspects, member bronco fans were rebuilding RT com down for crying out loud let the coaches and the broncos new regiem do what they need to do . One guy says same old broncos, WOW you kidding me , first pre-season game agaisnt dallas at dallas an lost bye one on the last play give me a freekin break go rute for the friggin Raiders Ahole.
We can mive McCarthy to the corner spot! Still cut jones. I did see the MLB out of position in the TD. But the 2 pts was all Nate.
A lot to work on. Sure. We’ve only been out there two weeks. I saw a lot of good things. Namely the run game and the depth at Dline. Prater!
QBs. What can I say. The plot thickens. Seriously. How is it Quinn looked like the Davy vet out there tonight? Orton? I’m one of your biggest supporters. You have to make a play. I’m not gonna pin it all on him. Lloyd makes his living making those kind of grabs. Tebow? Bud. If you dint want your NFL to stand for Not For Long- learn to slide. Please. Diving head first between the hashmarks in the middle of the field is the quickest way to the IR for your position. And you missed a wide open receiver. Plant your feet in the pocket and drill him in his numbers.
Sucks we lost. But it’s only preseason.watch the film, get to work and get your first W on home turf! Sorry for being an armchair coach. I’m a lil buzzed
I thought we looked good.
- Really liked the one-two punch of Moreno and Mcgahee. Moreno is looking faster/more agile then ever and Mcgahee moves the pile.
- I am worried about Moore. I remember 2-3 missed tackles off the top of my head- yes he can cover but learn to tackle!
-@Atwater. Yes, Tebow was so-so. He did no better in the redzone then Orton. Yes he was 6/7- BUT those stats don-t show the low and throne behind passes. 3 of those catches the receivers had to “dive” to get. A TD was possible on the slant but since it was thrown behind no chance for yards after catch. The bomb was the only pass that really stood out to me as “good”.
- Didn’t get to see much of Orton, so you can’t really judge. Yes he stalled in redzone because of penalties, no better or worse then Tebow.
- Quinn started out slow but seemed to get better as game went along. MUCH more poised in the pocket. Actually looks like he has some confidence.
- Bunkley didn’t play many snaps… but when camera panned over him on sideline he looked beat. Out of shape??
- Haggan showed good range and tackling ability even with his limited speed.
- Mohammed didn’t impress. To slow in man coverage and looked lost in zone coverage at end of game.
- Hunter worked hard and looked good mostly. I don’t like how he trys to speed rush on outside though all the time. I remember the tackle just pushing him that way and a nice draw going right past him.
- Saw ‘flashes’ from Jarmon and Beal. Both looked like they were giving it all.
- Cox had a nice pick. He did get beat a few times, needs to tighten up coverage (looks worse then last season).
- Vaughn looks much better. Was pretty solid in man coverage but a little loose in zone a couple times…. um… would like to see him wrap up tackles more, alot of arm/dive tackles which might be escaped by first stringers.
- Was really rooting for Mcbath. Didn’t notice him much- except his blown coverage on the ~80 yard td run. #dissapointed.
-McCarthy was a pleasant surprise. Didnt see him in coverage much. The few times he was he did well. Solid tackler. Like the edge rush.
-Minor, Ball, and White all didnt impress. #backupolineissues. Johnson got in some nice runs (but through wide open gaps). Would like to see him running against defence that Ball/White did and see how he does.
-Rookie wideouts impressed. Didnt see enough of undrafted CB’s to really say.
-Franklin looked OK in pass defence. Had a blown assignment on a run play leading to tackle-for-loss. #rookiegrowingpains
-GET RID OF JONES DARNIT. Dude wasnt even trying towards the end- just standing around. Blown coverage everywhere. I had him giving up 6+ passes. AGAINST THIRD STRINGERS!!!!!!
Orten played the first posetion, I seen tebow getting jacked thats why they took him out. He was supposed to play the third quarter also, Tebow will get hurt bad trying to run the way he does sorry all the experts on here cant see that, this is not college ball.
Caotico Rt on brother, someone else that seen what I did thank fellow fan. I think our run game against Mr. Ryans first string was great, but to start throwing after runnning all the way to the one, ram it down their throats at that point, hell the field gets smaller and everyone is waiting for a change. But that was Ortons fault.
I think the broncos look very good regardless loseing bye one on the last play. GOOOOOOOO BROOOOOOOOCOOOOS.
Saw a lot of good stuff in that game. Orton was the worst QB, going for 2/6 37 yards or so. Tebow looked pretty good. Quinn, was the big surprising, leading the broncos to all their TDs for the night.
Run game looks exciting, and Jermiah Johnson was really hitting the gaps with a lot of speed. Was a great game.
broncosfreak30,
Highlight on all of the sports news stations was Orton difficiency inside the red zone. I also agree, from the highlights I saw, defense looked good and offense seemed improved. Not much from me though since all I have to go on is the highlights from ESPN.
Interesting assessments, that 3 incomplete passes by Orton is not his fault, yet every throw by Tebow is scrutinized to the umph degree. It does nothing, sitting in the pocket like a statue, if you aren’t completing passes, moving the chains and putting 6 up on the board. I am physced that Orton will finally not have to carry so much weight this season and he will finally be able to produce consistently, but I am still very cautious about 3rd down and red zone efficiency.
I am treading on dangerous ground here, but it is fact, that even Elway got himself into a large majority of situations requiring a spectacular 4th quarter come back. So it strikes me as definitely odd that so many are ready to cut Tebow’s head off. But, it was no different with Elway came in the league. (As far as fans reactions) Furthering why I back Orton’s comments about not playing for the fans.
