Q3 15:00: Matt Prater is out to kick off to the Chiefs, who deferred after winning the toss at the start of the game. The kickoff is returned to the 26-yard line.

Q3 14:56: The Chiefs run the ball on first down — a two-yard gain by fullback Tim Castille. On second down, Mario Haggan nearly sacks Matt Cassel, but the quarterback escapes. Andra Davis immediately takes over the pressure, however, forcing Cassel toward the sideline, but Cassel lets go of an incomplete pass at the last moment to avoid a sack.

Q3 14:08: A pass on third down falls incomplete, and the Chiefs are out to punt. It was quarterback Brodie Croyle back to punt, however, and the Chiefs fake it. Croyle backs up to fire a pass, but Richard Quinn sprints into the backfield, leaps and tips the pass to ensure an incompletion and turnover on downs.

Q3 13:25: A one-yard gain on a first-down run is followed by an incomplete pass, setting up 3rd-and-9 for the Broncos at the Kansas City 26-yard line. Orton lines up in the shotgun, but a blitz by cornerback Travis Daniels brings a big hit on the quarterback from his blind side right as he let go of the pass. It falls incomplete, and there is a flag on the play for holding on the Broncos. It is declined, bringing up fourth down.

Q3 13:20: Prater is in to attempt a field goal, but the refs stop the play before he can kick. Not sure what the issue was — it looked like they moved where the ball was marked — but Prater is in to kick again, and he knocks home the 44-yard field goal to extend Denver’s lead.

BRONCOS 17, CHIEFS 6

*INJURY UPDATE: David Bruton (thigh injury) is doubtful to return to the game.

Q3 13:01: D.J. Williams leads a charge of defenders, taking down running back Javarris Walliams behind the line of scrimmage — a loss of one yard. On second down, Andre’ Goodman grabs an interception, his fourth of the season. That sets up the Broncos at the Kansas City 21-yard line.

Q3 11:40: Two Knowshon Moreno runs give the Broncos another first down at the 11-yard line. The rookie takes a third-straight carry down to the 7-yard line — a four-yard gain. On 2nd-and-6, Orton lines up in the shotgun, fakes a handoff to Moreno and fires left to Brandon Marshall on a bubble screen. The receiver follows his blockers and bursts into the end zone for a touchdown before sprinting down the sideline to hand the football to Head Coach Josh McDaniels. Prater’s extra point is up and in, as the Broncos capitalize on the turnover.

BRONCOS 24, CHIEFS 6

Q3 10:24: Wesley Woodyard makes the special teams stop after Prater’s kickoff, setting up the Chiefs at their own 24-yard line.

Q3 10:14: Jamaal Charles picks up seven yards on first down before being tackled by Dawkins. He picks up two more on second down before being taken down by D.J. Williams. That makes it 3rd-and-1, and Charles manages to lean his body just past the first-down marker after being tackled by Davis.

Q3 8:40: Cassel’s pass is underthrown on first down, falling in complete. On second down, his pass aimed at Lance Long is intercepted by Renaldo Hill, giving the Broncos offense the ball at the Kansas City 42-yard line.

Q3 8:17: Buckhalter picks up a quick first down after a 13-yard pickup, then follows that up with another first down on a 10-yard gain.

Q3 6:50: Moreno picks up a yard on first down, then a pass to Marshall goes for a loss of two. On 3rd-and-11 from the Kansas City 20-yard line, Denver calls its first timeout of the second half.

Q3 6:03: After an incompletion aimed at Marshall, Prater is back in to attempt another field goal — a 38-yarder. It’s up and through the uprights. For Prater, that makes it a personal-best 10 consecutive made field goals.

BRONCOS 27, CHIEFS 6

Q3 5:48: Goodman makes the special teams stop at the 20-yard line after the returner took it out from two yards deep in the end zone. Cassel gets a pass to Wade right away on first down — a five-yard pickup. Cassel lines up in the shotgun on second down and is nearly sacked by Dumervil before firing an incomplete pass aimed at Charles. On 3rd-and-5, Cassel lines up in the shotgun once again, scrambles around in the pocket and fires a pass downfield intended for Wade — but it is overthrown, and the crowd boos after the incompletion.

Q3 5:03: Dustin Colquitt booms a 58-yard punt, which Royal returns seven yards to the 24-yard line. Buckhalter takes the ensuing first-down carry, then Marshall takes a reverse for two yards. An Orton incompletion on third down brings out Mitch Berger for a punt, but there is a flag on the play for running into the kicker. The five-yard penalty is declined, however, as it would not have given the Broncos a first down. After the punt, Kansas City takes over at its own 23-yard line.

Q3 3:08: After a 16-yard pickup on first down, a false start penalty backs up the Chiefs to their own 34-yard line, setting up 1st-and-15. On the next play, Mario Haggan burst into the backfield, hitting Charles and forcing a fumble. Goodman picked up the fumble and sprinted 30 yards for the defensive touchdown. Prater’s extra point is up and in.

BRONCOS 34, CHIEFS 6

Q3 2:28: Charles takes a handoff on first down, picking up three yards. On second down, Cassel fires downfield to Wade for a first down at the 40-yard line. On the ensuing play, Vonnie Holliday sacks Cassel for a loss of three. Cassel lofts a pass downfield intended for Brad Cottam, but it bounces off his hands incomplete. That makes it 3rd-and-13, and Cassel calls a timeout — the team’s first of the second half.

Q3 1:04: Cassel throws incomplete on third down, bringing up fourth down and a punt. Royal receives the punt and runs backward, trying to reverse field. He is tackled inside the 5-yard line, however, and is down after the play. Royal walked off the field under his own power — apparently he lost his shoe on the play.

Q3 0:10: A three-yard run by Moreno on first down is followed up by a sack-fumble by Tamba Hali. The Chiefs recover the fumble at the 3-yard line, setting up 1st-and-goal for Kansas City.

Q3 0:02: Brodie Croyle is in under center to start the next drive, and his first pass is tipped, but still made it into the arms of Cottam for a loss of a yard. The play brings the third quarter to an end, with the Broncos lead standing at 34-6.

Q4 15:00: Charles takes the carry on second down and gets into the end zone for a four-yard touchdown. Ryan Succop’s extra point is good.

BRONCOS 34, CHIEFS 13

Q4 14:57: Buckhalter is back deep to receive the kickoff. After fielding the kick at the 6-yard line, he brings it out to the 20-yard line, where the offense will take over.

Q4 14:37: A four-yard run by Moreno on first down is followed by a play-action pass from Orton — it’s a screen intended for Graham, but the play is well-covered so Orton throws it at the tight end’s feet.

Q4 13:59: Orton drops back and finds Marshall on a bubble screen on third down, and the receiver sprints down the sideline for a 49-yard gain. That sets up first down at the Kansas City 27-yard line.

Q4 12:48: Two Moreno runs net five yards, and on 3rd-and-5, Orton finds Buckhalter out of the backfield for a gain of about five — the referees are asking for a measurement.

Q4 12:15: The referees determine Buckhalter was just short, and it is fourth down, with just less than a yard to go. The Broncos elect to go for it, and Moreno finds the sideline after a block from Larsen, bursting the rest of the way into the end zone for his second touchdown of the day. Prater’s extra point is up and in, and the Broncos extend their lead once again.

BRONCOS 41, CHIEFS 13

Q4 11:51: Three incomplete passes from Croyle bring up fourth down. On the last of the three there was a flag for holding on the Chiefs, but the penalty was declined. Colquitt is back in to punt to Royal, who is back in the game. He fields the kick at the 20-yard line, makes some dfenders miss and brings it out to the Kansas City 41-yard line. That’s a return of 39 yards on a 50-yard punt.

Q4 11:26: Orton finds Scheffler on first down for a big gain to the 22-yard line. It’s a 19-yard gain, and the next play brings a run by Buckhalter for a loss of a yard. Marshall gained two yards on a pass from Orton on second down, and Royal took an end-around for another yard to set up a 37-yard Matt Prater field goal on fourth down, which the kicker drilled through the uprights.

BRONCOS 44, CHIEFS 13

Q4 8:19: A pass from Croyle to Cottam picks up a quick first down, then the two connect again for a nine-yard gain. Castille takes a carry for 16 yards and another first down on the ensuing play. Darcel McBath, Vonnie Holliday, Robert Ayers, Wesley Woodyard, Darrell Reid and Ty Law are all seeing extensive playing time on defense now, as some starters seem to be done for the day.

Q4 6:23: The Chiefs have a 3rd-and-10 on the Denver 13-yard line after two Croyle incompletions. The quarterback lines up in the shotgun before Kansas City calls its second timeout of the half.

Q4 6:19: Croyle lines up under center on third down, drops back and tries to find Wade, but the pass bounces just off his hands incomplete. On fourth down, the Chiefs offense is still on the field. Croyle is in the shotgun. He takes the snap and finds Castille, but the fullback is short of the first down. The turnover on downs gives the Broncos offense the ball at its own 5-yard line.

Q4 6:03: Chris Simms is in at quarterback, and he hands the ball to Peyton Hillis, who picks up a quick five yards.

Q4 4:40: Hillis picks up four more yards on second down, setting up 3rd-and-1, but a false start penalty makes it 3rd-and-6. Hillis takes the carry and picks up the first down, keeping the clock running.

Q4 3:10: Hillis continues to carry the ball, and the Broncos are left with a 3rd-and-3 after two rushes net seven yards. On the ensuing play, Hillis picks up 13 yards to pick up the first down and bring the game to the two-minute warning.

Q4 2:00: Hillis pushes his tacklers up the sideline for a 12-yard gain and another first down, meaning Simms can simply take a few quarterback kneels to end the game and seal the victory.

With the 44-13 win, the Broncos move to 8-4 with a matchup at undefeated Indianapolis next on the schedule.
