KICKOFF: The Chiefs will receive the ball to start the second half.
Q3 15:00: Dexter McCluster receivers Prater’s kickoff and returns it 28-yards to the 32-yard line. Jamaal Charles runs for 1 yard on first down, and then carries for 16 yards and first down on the next play.
Q3 13:37: Thomas Jones runs up the middle for 11 yards before he’s stopped by Kevin Vickerson, and on the next play Perrish Cox stops Charles for a 4-yard loss. Champ Bailey storms into the backfield and sacks Cassel to knock the Chiefs back for a 9-yard loss. Cassel’s long pass on third down is incomplete, but the officials call D.J. Williams for unnecessary roughness for hitting a defenseless receiver and the drive continues.
Q3 11:02: Thomas Jones runs up the middle for 8 yards, and then Charles carries for 13 yards to the Denver 17-yard line. Jones takes his turn for 12 more yards, and then carries again to the Denver 2-yard line. On-second-goal from the 2, Cassel lines up in the shotgun formation and hands off to Charles for an apparent touchdown, but a flag is on the field. Kansas City is called for illegal formation because they did not have enough men on the line of scrimmage. They move back 5 yards, and Thomas Jones carries for 5 yards. The Chiefs line up for third-and-goal from the 2-yard line, and another flag is down. Kansas City is called for a false start, so now the Chiefs have to gain 7 yards for a touchdown. Jamaal Charles runs for 5 yards on the draw play, and the Chiefs will go for it on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line. Mario Haggan drives Cassel way back for the sack, and Denver escapes the drive without allowing any points.
Q3 7:32: The Broncos will take over on downs from their own 16-yard line. Orton takes the snap under center and hands off to Moreno, who runs for 2 yards. Dan Gronkwoski returns to the game and lines up in a two-tight end set with Graham. Orton fakes the handoff to Moreno and fires deep to Brandon Lloyd, but Brandon Carr is there to deflect the pass. Facing third-and-8 from the 18-yard line, Orton takes the shotgun snap and throws a pass behind Eddie Royal. Britton Colquitt is on to punt, and Javier Arenas calls for the fair catch at Kansas City’s 34-yard line.
Q3 6:35 On the Chiefs first play of the drive, Dexter McCluster busts an end-around for 57 yards, but it’s called back for holding. They now face first-and-15 at the 29-yard line, and Cassel’s pass fall incomplete. Thomas Jones runs for 3 yards, and Cassel converts the subsequent third down with a 19-yard pass to Verran Tucker.
Q3 4:19: Setting up at midfield, Cassel hands off to Jones for 1 yard. McCluster tries to the end around again, but Renaldo Hill sniffs it out after a 1-yard gain. On third-and-8, Cassel drops back and appears to fumble while Mario Haggan hits him. D.J. Williams pikcs up the ball and returns it just short of a touchdown, but there’s a flag on the field. The officials say there is no fumble because Cassel’s arm was moving forward, and the penalty is intentional grounding on Cassel. That counts as a lost down for the Chiefs, so they’ll punt on fourth down. Eddie Royal calls for a fair catch, and the Broncos will take over at their own 17-yard line.
Q3 3:16: Dan Gronkowski motions out wide, and Orton takes the snap over center. He finds Jabar Gaffney over the middle, but Brandon Carr smacks him hard and separates the receiver from the ball. On second-and-10, Knowshon Moreno carries for 2 yards, but there’s a flag on the field. Chirs Kuper is called for holding, but the Chiefs decline, which brings us to third-and-8. Orton’s pass intended for Lloyd is incomplete, and Colquitt punts for 29 yards on fourth down.
Q3 2:36: The Chiefs take over on the Denver 48-yard line. Jamaal Charles takes the handoff and runs behind a blocker for 14 yards before Wesley Woodyard pushes him out of bounds. Thomas Jones handles a pitch up the right side and runs for 2 yards before Jason Hunter tackles him. McCluster takes a handoff up the middle of the field and he’s stuffed by Denver’s defense. The rookie fumbles, and the Broncos recover.
Q3 1:24: Credit Justin Bannan with forcing the fumble and Mario Haggan with recovering it. The Broncos start the drive from their own 32-yard line, and Moreno carries for 2 yards on first down. Orton lines up in the shotgun and finds Gaffney over the middle for 10 yards and first down. Orton hand off to Moreno, who runs 6 yards to the Kansas City 49-yard line. That brings us to the end of the third quarter.
Q4 15:00: Moreno knifes up the middle of the defense for a 22-yard gain on a draw play to open up the fourth quarter. Orton looks deep for Lloyd on the next play, but Brandon Carr jumps in front of the the pass and almost intercepts it, but he can’t keep possession as he hits the ground. Eddie Royal pulls in a 4-yard catch on second down, and Orton again looks for Lloyd on the deep ball on third-down. They can’t complete it, and Matt Prater comes in to attempt a 41-yard field goal. The kick is good.
CHIEFS 10, BRONCOS 6
Q4 13:42: Prater kicks off to McCluster, who returns it 16 yards to the 24-yard line before he’s stopped by Richard Quinn.
**INJURY UPDATE** Spencer Larsen is out with a hamstring injury. His return is questionable.
Q4 13:36: Cassel’s first-down pass intended for Dwayne Bowe is broken up by Champ Bailey. The Chiefs set up a screen pass to McCluster, and the rookie gains 6 yards on the play. Facing third-and-4, Cassel takes the shotgun snap and and fires a pass to Terrance Copper, who gets tangled up with Jamaal Charles and can’t make the catch. Dustin Colquitt comes on to punt to Eddie Royal, and the receiver returns it 15 yards to the Denver 34-yard line.
Q4 12:26: Orton takes the snap under center, fakes the handoff to Moreno and fires deep for Gaffney, but two Chiefs are there to deflect the pass. Moreno handles the draw on the next play, breaking one tackle and slipping another for a 13 yard gain.
Q4 11:40: Orton’s first down pass intended for Lloyd falls incomplete, and the second down handoff goes to Moreno again. The back picks up 5 yards, and the Broncos face third-and-5 from Kansas City’s 48-yard line. Denver takes its first timeout of the half.
Q4 10:57: Knowshon Moreno gets the call on third down, easily converting the third down with a big run up the middle of the field for 24 yards. Orton’s pass is incomplete on the next play, and he’s called for delay of game after that. On second-and-long, Tamba Hali bursts into the backfield, sacks Orton, forces a fumble and recovers it himself.
Q4 9:58: The Chiefs take over on their own 40-yard line. Jamaal Charles runs for 3 yards, and then Cassel completes a 22-yard pass to Bowe, but it’s called back for offensive pass interference. Cassel completes an 8-yard pass to Tony Moeaki, but that’s not long enough, and Dustin Colquitt comes out to punt to Royal, who returns it 15 yards to Denver’s 34-yard line.
Q4 8:08: Orton’s first pass intended for Lloyd falls just too low to catch, and the quarterback’s second-down try to Moreno is incomplete as well. The Broncos are called for illegal formation on that play, but the Chiefs decline the penalty to get to third down. On third down, Orton launches deep to Lloyd, but he can’t make the tough catch over the defender. Britton Colquitt punts to McCluster, who returns it 4 yards to Kansas City’s 27-yard line.
Q4 7:44: Jamaal Charles carries the ball for 4 yards on first down, and Terrance Copper turns a short pass into an 8-yard gain and a first down for the Chiefs.
Q4 6:31: Copper gets the call gain on a 5-yard pass, and Charles carries for 6 more yards and another first down at the 50-yard line. Kevin Vickerson was shaken up on the play.
Q4 5:32: Cassel fumbles the snap, but Jamaal Charles is there to fall on the football before Robert Ayers can get to it. Ayers bats down the screen pass on second down, and the Chiefs face third-and-17. Cassel takes the shotgun snap and finds Thomas Jones underneath for 12 yards, but it isn’t enough. Eddie Royal calls for the fair catch on Dustin Colquitt’s punt at the Denver 15-yard line.
***INJURY UPDATE*** Joe Mays is out with a knee injury and is questionable to return.
Q4 3:50: Orton finds Brandon Lloyd for 18 yards on the first pass of the drive, but he can’t complete a pass to Gaffney on the next play. A group of Chiefs swarm Orton on the next play, and the quarterback is called down for a sack before he dumps the ball off to Moreno. On third-and-18, Orton finds Moreno over the middle for 14 yards. Britton Colquitt comes out to punt, and McCluster returns the football 2 yards to the Kansas City 17-yard line.
Q4 2:32: Thomas Jones runs for 4 yards, and Denver calls its second timeout of the half.
Q4 2:11: Jamaal Charles takes the handoff and runs 6 yards to Kansas City’s 27-yard line for a first down. That brings us to the two-minute warning.
Q4 2:00: Cassel hands off to Jamaal Charles, who runs for 1 yard before Kevin Vickerson tackles him. Denver takes its last timeout.
Q4 1:54: Charles runs for 2 more yards to bring up third down. Kansas City takes their first timeout of the half.
Q4 1:09: Charles carries for the third straight time, gaining 3 yards this time. Eddie Royal is back to receive Dustin Colquitt’s punt. Kansas City takes their second timeout.
Q4 0:20: Royal can’t bring in the punt, and it bounces behind him. Verran Tucker touched it before Perrish Cox scooped it up, so the Denver retained possession at the 8-yard line. Orton’s Hail Mary pass is incomplete and the Chiefs win it by a score of 10-6.

Orton can totally redeem himself or fail, again.
Its Deja Poo!
Ummmmm what was that?
oh cool…….
That play sums it up!
The ref just said ” at this spot here.”!!!
Oh crap! Why do I keep watching Bronco games when all they do is make me feel like crap!
6 to 10 best game ever
awwwww they hugged
WOW! Thanks for the blogs. They were better than the offense today!
The Broncos make me wanna kill myself!
Fail
Pathetic
Tebow-less
unlove-ed
thats the broncos
No shoe laces for you fanatic66
Well bye guys
I heard somewhere McD will be fired today
Woulda shoulda coulda
I doubt it Salo, Good job to the D and Moreno, you guys played great today. Orton= pathetic=TEBOWTIME! nuff said!
be cool lads the seasons gone, but let mcdaniels start next year the chess pieces are being moved into position. He picks all draft picks based on a 2 year learning curve he is trying to build an empire not a city
tebow tebow tebow..
I think when they hugged McD was asking Haley if he had any job openings.
I just want to why we only go for it on fourth if we’re winning? I mean who thought we would have a chance when we punted for the last time?!!!!! The guys are talented (great game Knoshawn and Champ!!!) but I don’t understand the pass play calling. I think the coaches have given up.
Have always been a bronco supporter but McDaniels sure makes it hard. Looking for just one thing he has did right while single handedly destroying the Denver program. He will probably trade Moreno for a 3rd round pick that we can’t use till 2015
I have to say Haley is the biggest cry baby ever!!! Refrasing that and saying the third in front of Philip Cry me a river and his coach. oh well next year maybe the broncos will win something. OH wait if Orton plays the comeback will fizzle into a fumble or int. or three and out. NEver mind. Wow knowshon really played well along with the defense. What a turnaround, if only the broncos could have done that kind of defense all year long. Oh well, sign champ, he really shut down Bowe.
GO BRONCOS
So we finally have a game where the run is working and we never play our running / scrambling TD. Excellent decision. NOT!
Kyle Orton proves once again, that he is a 3 quarter QB. Choked AGAIN! I can’t believe he is still starting. Now that MATHEMATICALLY it is no possible to anything this year, PLEASE start Tebow (he’s supposed to be the future). Maybe we can get a 7th round pick for quinn and a 3rd for Orton and start adding to the defense.
Go Knowshon! Great game! Sorry you have horrible coaching.
Champ you deserve every penny you get and hope you get an extension.
DJ, don’t feel bad that was a BS call.
Go Broncos in 2011!
Okay guys, it is definitely over now! We have shown that we are the laughing stock of the NFL!! 6 points in a whole game??? No touchdowns?? To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t have minded having Chris Simms in today’s game! Orton was absolutely horrible and about threw a pick about 8 times and always under threw his receivers!!! I will tell you something, we had a better chance to win the game with putting Tebow in in the 4th quarter! Orton was so nervous to get sacked and he even go sacked and fumbled the ball!!
Also, McD should be very nervous right now with how he didn’t go for it with 2:30 left on the clock in the 4th quarter!! He goes for it a lot of times already and then when you need to on 4th and 5 with 2:30 left he punts the ball???
The only two players that looked like they practiced and prepared this last week was Moreno, Bailey, and Prater!!
We play at Arizona next week and I think that would be the perfect time to put in Tebow! Derek Anderson sucks and their defense has just fallen apart! That would be the game for him to come in and get his chance to prove himself! I know McD is trying to protect his job but I think we could actually have an easy win against Arizona with how good our defense played today even with all of our main guys injured!!
It is Tebow time and we have to get ready for next year!!! We better get the right players this year in the draft with our good draft picks!!!
This game confirmed for me that Orton is definitely not the long term answer. I like the guy and think he’s overachieved big time, so my hat’s off to him. But this is the first game of the season really where the running game and the defense were outstanding the whole game but Orton looked horrible. Like I’ve been thinking most of this season, his great stats are just the result of playing from behind against soft coverages and prevent defenses. Sure he’s made some great throws, but when his team needs him to put a hall of fame type of drive together to pull out the when, he always fails. He’s just not a franchise quarterback.
As for Champ, I think he finally got tired of how his season’s been going and took out his frustrations on Dwayne Bowe. That was good to see.
I will also add that the coaches have completely killed us this year! I am not the type of person to make excuses, but I am sorry, whenever you have poor coaching like that and in the rams game, and the other games this year, something has to change with the coaching!! Obviously if the refs do not call a fair game, you will never have a chance to gain motivation and win a game!!!
Thanks for mentioning the refs freak! They REALLY made it even harder. That was the WORST refing I’ve seen in a LONG time.
1. DJ gets called for 15 but Carr does the SAME thing to Gaffney and no call?
2. Orton was NOT down in the scoop for Moreno.
And quite a few more but refs were HORRENDOUS today.
Why do my fellow Denver fans not see that this very young team has been in every game but two this year!! McD is a good young head coach… he just needs one more year to get his people. When he took over he had an 8-8 team that was old on D. Tired of hearing every one hatting on Our TEAM. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And on a side note when Tebow plays… after he learns the playbook we will have an awesome 4th quarter QB that CAN win under pressure.
Boncos81885 this is not a young team. Look it up they have the oldest defense in the NFL this is not a guess it is a fact.
I agree 81885. It takes more than a season and a half to turn around an NFL team. I think McD should be given another year.
Orton folds when he should at least throw the ball away. He tries holding the ball too long. The only QB’s that can get away with holding the ball too long are the ones that can actually run.
The season is lost. Might as well start Tebow and in the meanwhile be scoping out players we need to trade for and draft. It used to be a head coach was given 4-5 seasons to turn a team around. With the parity in the NFL, wins are tough and making a consistent team isn’t something that happens overnight.
The other thing is, this wasn’t already an old defense when McD took over. He made it old by bringing in players like Dawkins, Jamal Williams, Bannan, Hill, Goodman…
After watching the game today…isn’t it time to get rid of McD?!?! The players need a real leader on the sidelines, McD is definately not that! After the cheating scandal and the terrible season, McD is ruining a great Broncos legacy, running the team into the ground! Where’s the petition to get McD fired…I’ll sign it a hundres times over in a heartbeat!
I’m not going to crucify McD over the “cheating scandal”. The man that was responsible for recording the 49ers was fired. The only mistake McD made was trying to keep it under his hat and protect the employee’s job.
Belichick is still at the Patriots, even after his $500,000 fine. He was complicit in his recording of other teams.
The difference is New England usually wins when they cheat…
BRONCOS 6
CHIEFS 10
Official results of the score prediction contest:
This week absolutely everybody was totally off points wise, and it makes total sense when Vegas had this game at 48.5 points in the over and under betting. Total score: 16 points!!!! Anyhow as in every week we have some winners and some losers, so here it is even though there is no reason to crown anybody king for the week with such off predictions.
1st place:
O&BinCostaRica 14-31, 29 points off
2nd place:
strandoftds 10-42, 36 points off
3rd place:
killerekod 13-41, 38 points off
4th place:
baylinorcrush 17-38, 39 points off
5th place:
milehighmagic88 17-41, 42 points off
Congrats to all winners for being a little closer to the real thing than the others, that’s about it.
And our new addition to the Wall of Shame this week is someone who basically already knew he might be in for it as he actually thought we could paste up 38 points on the Chiefs, only 32 points off, LOL:
since 1972 38-27!!!!!!!!
Ok guys, it looks like next week this contest could be more fun since we actually have a chance at beating the Cardinals, or do we? Let me know, I’ll keep track….
Sorry, killerkod.
Well I had an epiphany, the reason I don’t like McD is because he can’t get our player game ready. I have watched all season and I realized that the other teams NEVER beat Denver, Its always us! whether its a stupid penalty or a bonehead decision we always seem to find new and upsetting ways to lose!
I know that that was an obvious problem, I guess I’m blind.
“New England usually wins when they cheat.” Obviously to you, cheating is ok as long as you win. Which McD didn’t do. Lets be honest here if we can. McD ordered the recording destroyed without viewing it himself. He kept quiet to keep the man from being fired.
You people that are demanding McD’s head on a platter are making your decisions based on emotions rather than fairness. I say give the man another season and a half and then make a change if no improvement.
I have some advice: If you are addicted to instant gratification, the NFL is not the sport for you.
Fire McD
Fire Xanders
Play Tebow
Beat the Cardinals
Did I mention fire McD? LOL.
I get so sick of listening to McD after the game and how he compliments the other team and the players that shined against our defense. I don’t care what he thinks about the other team…why not talk more about how Champ and Decker really stepped it up today and how Kyle Orton continuously fails under pressure. When asked about Tebow…he says it hasn’t even been discussed…Josh, you’re 3 and 9 now…I think it’s time to start having some discussions and maybe start making some changes. We’re lucky the Chiefs played terribly today…
Well, whatever…the disappointments from this season just keep getting easier to deal with. I’m hoping for a new HC and some major changes for next season!
McD’s press conferences are getting downright pathetic. It’s the same crap every week. Lord, I hope we can see a major change soon… it’s just killing me to watch this crap.
Orton failing under pressure is the norm now. Whatever trade value he has isn’t going to be helped by this kind of performance.
It’s past time for Tebow to get some reps. McD is clutching his last card tightly, hoping a Tebow unplayed buys him another season.
That’s not at all what I’m saying ATL. I never even hinted that. My whole point is the guy cheats, and we’re still 3-9. That’s pretty pathetic. And since when is the NFL not about instant gratification. Any analyst will tell you this is a win now league. The NFL no longer waits for teams to develop.
If I want McD fired for cheating, why would I think it’s ok as long as he wins? That’s just not logical, I’m sorry.
Okay, with the whole McD thing, I do really think that it takes a new head coach a few years to get the team that he really desires and really show his talent, if he has any!
However, the only reason that I would be wanting McD to get fired is if we can get Gruden to come out of retirement! He has been a great coach and has been to the super bowl! Also, if no one remembers, he absolutely loves Tebow and is probably the biggest believer with how great of a QB that Tebow is going to make!! Gruden has said no to everyone that has asked him, but maybe if the Broncos ask him and us having Tebow like he knows, maybe that would change something!!!
That is the only way that I would be satisfied if we fired McD! If we do end up keeping him, I hope he does his homework and see which players are stars in this years upcoming draft and go out and draft them!
But for now, this game put us out of the playoffs so we have a lost season!! Basically now we are just playing for pride so we should definitely put Tebow in NOWWW so that if we do end up starting him next year, he will already have some experience!!
Just like I said in my earlier statement, the Arizona game would be a perfect game for him to come into and start! Arizona has been breaking down over the weeks and it would be PERFECT for Tebow to come in and show everyone what he can do!! With us already out of the playoffs, it makes perfect sense now to get out as much as we can of the players that will be on the team for next season!! Basically like preseason, rookie and unproven players should play and should be able to come out and show what they got!! So that McD, if he is still here next year, will know a little bit better with what he has in each of the players!!!
Milehigh…
I am not on anyone’s side here but just McD has been on two teams that someone in the organization has cheated doesn’t make him a cheater!! I know that we, as fans, do not know all of the details in what really happened! We just know what we are told!! Obviously if someone cheats at their job doesn’t mean that his coworkers cheated as well! People do cheat independently!
Just like I said, who knows what really happened!! We only know what the press, media and what McD says!!
Haha, sorry for all of the exclamation marks. I didn’t know that I put soo many until I read over it. No point intended.
I LOVE ME SOME BRONCOS COUNTRY!!
Obviously people aren’t actually reading my comments because I’m not calling him a cheater because I’m assuming he actually looked at the tape or anything like that. I’m saying an employee he hired cheated, and he lied to try to cover it up. No matter which way you guys try to put it, that’s a deceitful way of doing business. Cheating by association, cheating by having the back of a cheater, no matter how you want to word it, it’s still the wrong way to run a franchise.
It’s not just the pass play calling. It’s Orton starring down the receiver that he wants to throw to. Play Tebow & you’ll see a different offense. Good job to Knowshon & Champ. Best I’ve seen them play this year.
