Perrish Cox breaks up a pass on second down, setting up third-and-9 for the Chargers. Rivers takes the shotgun snap and hits Darren Sproles over the middle with room to run. Sproles turns on the jets and finds blockers down the field, turning the short catch into a 57-yard touchdown catch.
CHARGERS 28, BRONCOS 7
*INJURY UPDATE* Darcel McBath left the game with a quadricep injury. His return is questionable.
Q3 12:36: Nate Kaeding kicks off to Demaryius Thomas, who finds a seam in the coverage and carries the ball just past the 40-yard line. But there are two flags on the play, a holding penalty on the Broncos and a tripping penalty on the Chargers. The penalties offset at the spot of the holding call, so the Broncos will start with a first-and-10 from their own 19-yard line.
Q3 12:29: Knowhson Moreno gets the call on first down and runs for a 2-yard gain. Orton lines up under center, fakes the handoff to Moreno and throws a slip-screen to Demaryius Thomas. Antoine Cason sniffs out the play and tackles the receiver for no gain. Ryan Harris is called for a false start on third down, pushing the Broncos back to a third-and-13 from their own 16-yard line. Orton’s pass is too high for Lloyd, and Britton Colquitt will come in to punt.
Q3 10:57: Sproles returns Colquitt’s punt 5 yards to the San Diego 45-yard line, and Mike Tolbert takes the first down carry for 4 yards. Kevin Vickerson stops Tolbert for no gain on the next play, setting up third-and-6 for San Diego. Rivers drops back and throws a pass in the face of pressure, finding Malcom Floyd for 18 yards and a first down.
**INJURY REPORT** Demaryius Thomas has left the game with an ankle injury and is out.
Q3 8:43: On first down for the Chargers, D.J. Williams reads the screen pass to Sproles and combines with Ryan McBean to take the back down 6 yards behind the line. Marcus McNeil was called for holding on the play, but the Broncos declined the penalty. Sproles runs for 4 yards on the next play, setting up third-and-12 for the Chargers on Denver’s 35-yard line. Rivers’ pass is incomplete, and Kaeding has come on to attempt the 53-yard field goal. San Diego elects to take its first timeout of the half before the kick.
Q3 7:57: The Chargers have decided to punt instead of attempt the long field goal, sending out Mike Scifres. The punt rolls out of bounds at Denver’s 5-yard line.
Q3 7:48: Orton’s fakes the handoff on first down and hits Brandon Lloyd for 13 yards and a first down. The quarterback works the fake again on the next play, firing a deep pass just out of reach for Lloyd up the left sideline. On the ensuing play, Orton hits Moreno on a screen, but the back is brought down for a 3-yard loss. Orton hits Daniel Graham for a 6-yard gain well short of the first down, and Colquitt comes out to punt. Eric Weddle waives for the fair catch, and the Chargers will take over at their own 47-yard line.
***INJURY UPDATE*** D.J. Williams has left the game with a concussion and is out.
Q3 5:45: On first down, Tolbert takes the handoff and bulls his way forward for 6 yards before Brian Dawkins takes him down. Rivers hands off to Tolbert again on second down, this time for a draw play and a 3-yard gain. Denver’s defense is called for encroachment before the third down play, giving San Diego a fresh set of downs.
Q3 4:12: Justin Bannan stops Jacob Hester for no gain on first down, and Champ Bailey takes down Sproles after a 2-yard gain on second down. Facing third-and-8 from Denver’s 37-yard line, Rivers takes the shotgun snap, scrambles to his right and dives just past the first-down marker for a 9-yard gain.
Q3 2:15: Rivers hands off on the draw play to Tolbert for 4 yards on first down and gives to Tolbert again for a 3-yard gain on second down. On third-and-3 from Denver’s 21-yard line, Rivers lines up under center and completes a pass to a wide open Kory Sperry for 13 yards and another first down. Tolbert takes the first-down carry for 4 yards to end the third quarter of play.
Q4 15:00: On second down, Tolbert takes the handoff and runs for a 1-yard gain to the Denver 3-yard line, and Rivers hits Jacob Hester for a touchdown pass on the next play.
CHARGERS 35, BRONCOS 7
Q4 14:16: Perrish Cox is back to receive Kaeding’s kickoff, but the short kick falls to Spencer Larsen, who runs for 9 yards on his third return of the night. On first-and-10 from the Denver 29-yard line, Knowshon Moreno takes the handoff and runs for 4 yards. Orton finds Brandon Lloyd over the middle for a 3-yard gain, but can’t complete a pass to Eddie Royal on third down. Britton Colquitt punts to Sproles, who returns it 8 yards to the San Diego 22-yard line before Joe Mays stops him with a big hit.
Q4 13:02: Rivers lines up in the shotgun and hands off to Tolbert for 2-yard gain on the draw play. Rivers pitches left to Tolbert, and Wesley Woodyard and Joe Mays stop the back for a 1-yard gain. On third-and-7, Marcus Thomas pressures Rivers and the quarterback can’t complete a pass on the run. Mike Scifres is out to punt to Eddie Royal who picks up the bouncing punt and finds room up the right sideline for a 33-yard return.
Q4 11:27: Starting from San Diego’s 39-yard line, Orton lines up in the shotgun and tosses a screen pass to Moreno, who picks up 14 yards and a first down. Moreno gets the call again on a draw play, spinning off one tackler and keeping his balance for a 12-yard gain. The back picks up 1 yard on the next play, and then makes a 6-yard catch on the next play. Facing third-and-3 from Chargers’ 6-yard line, Orton takes the shotgun snap and has nowhere to go before getting sacked by Vaughn Martin for a 7 yard sack. The Broncos are going for it on fourth down, and Orton fires a high pass to Brandon Lloyd. The receiver leaps up over three onlookers and comes down with a circus catch for the touchdown.
CHARGERS 35, BRONCOS 14
Q4 8:48: Matt Prater’s kicks off for a touchback, and the Chargers will start from their own 20-yard line. Tolbert carries for 3 yards on first down, and Sproles turns a catch in the flat into a 10-yard gain on second down. With a new set of downs, Rivers lines up under center and hands off to Tolbert, who finds a hole up the middle for 22 yards. The run puts him over the 100-yard mark for the night.
Q4 6:25: Tolbert runs again on first down, picking up the 5-yards. A San Diego man has made his way onto the field and waives his T-shirt around before he’s tackled and escorted off by three security guards.
Q4 6:05: San Diego is called for a false start so the Chargers are moved back to a second-and-10. Tolbert carries for 2 yards before he’s stopped by Kevin Alexander, setting up a third-and-8. Rivers can’t get the snap off in time, so San Diego is called for delay of game and now faces a third-and-13 from midfield. Sproles takes the handoff on the draw play and gains 1 yard. Denver is calling their first timeout of the second half.
Q4 4:51: Eddie Royal fair catches the punt, putting his team in position to start from the 9-yard line. Orton lines up in the shotgun and finds Moreno over the middle for 8 yards. Orton hurries the offense to the line and completes a pass to Orton in the same place, picking up 10 yards and a first down at the 27-yard line. Orton looks for his running back again, this time completing an 8-yard pass. The quarterback completes a quick 5-yard pass to Jabar Gaffney for another first down, and then Orton throws an incomplete pass in the same direction. On second-and-10, Orton rolls to his right but gets sacked for a 12 yard loss when Larry English jumps on his back.
Q4 2:29: Orton’s third down pass is incomplete to Royal, and Britton Colquitt comes out to punt on fourth-and-22. Sproles returns the punt for 12 yards, and the Chargers will start from their own 45-yard line.
Q4 2:19: Jacob Hester runs for 3 yards on first down, bringing us to the final two-minute warning.
Q4 2:00: Curtis Brinkley carries for 9 yards up the middle, and Rivers takes a knee. The Chargers will run out the clock, finishing off the Broncos 35-14 on Monday night in San Diego.

Hahaha, I know it is impossible right now. But I just keep telling myself that I wait all year for football season and then it gets here and it is so bleak. I just can’t get myself to totally give up after 11 weeks. It’ll be less stressful then the other years we just collapsed thats for sure. Now it can only get better. Right? Right? Please tell me I’m right, ha.
I’m sure everyone heard Gruden last night when he questioned the draft picks we’ve had in recent years. I believe it was when they brought up the avg age of our defense or a little later. Gruden added that this should’ve been the area addressed thru the draft when Mcd first arrived.
In recent years, we haven’t made the playoffs, but we were always in the hunt through December. Can’t remember the last time we were out of the running so early in the season. Must have been right after our back to back SB wins, when we finished 6-10.
This is a major disappointment to see our Team at the bottom of the AFC West. Hard to see our players looking so dejected on the sidelines last night.
This pain is overbearing……
I think I’m getting tired of defending McD…Even more tired of having an opinion at all. I think I’ll just watch the rest of the season without any expectations at all! What’s up with the running game last night? Looked to me like if they’d have stuck with it they could’ve accomplished something. Orton just flat wasn’t on last night. Running game was looking pretty decent when they went to it but then even when they were only down by a TD they went all pass…plenty of time to run the ball. Don’t get it! And the defense? I guess they stayed home to watch the game last night and listen to Ron Jaworski’s sub-par commentary on all things football. He really is a genious behind the microphone. And Mike Tirico? I’ve had it with his sarcasm and rude comments. Wish that KOA could delay their broadcast for about ten seconds more so it would match up with what i’m seeing on TV! Just the price paid for all of us satellite/Comcast customers…(If any of you have figured out a way around this would love to hear it!) Oh well, next week should be the final reality check. I’m not giving them any playoff chances at all of course, but we’ll see if these cats can play with some pride and salvage a win. McD/Xanders most likely here to stay for one more year…I’ll just suffer with everyone else. But on the bright side…We’re not the Vikings!
Two plays that killed us. The fake punt and the blitz that Sproles scored on. And there front lines beat up our front lines on both sides of the ball. We were flat out beaten. Out coached, out smarted, out bullied and lots of three and outs. Enough said.
I`ve said this before. There`s 6 more games left and we are done. Come April, all of our draft picks better be on D. We need to get younger players on D to develope. DT, DE, S, and maybe another CB. Thats all I`ll say for now for our up coming draft.
Anyone know the scoop on Bay Bay? Hope he`s fine?
Blitzes never work for denver…Broncos aren’t nasty enough on defense. We’re full of cast-offs from other teams that have either lost a step or never had a step in the 1st place. I appreciate Brian Dawkins for the intensity that he supposedly brings with him but his tenure here has been lackluster at best. Haven’t seen the “team leader” that he’s supposed to be. That being said who’s gonna step up? Too many guys with too many average careers leads to an average team. I’m starting to believe (against my will) that we’re an average team. Everywhere except QB. Orton is the one QB we’ve got that gives us the best shot on offense. Don’t forget that Shanahan pulled Plummer for Cutler and we were 7-4 at the time…I believe we finished 8-8 or 9-7 that season. Haven’t seen the playoffs since. Tebow’s time will come, and nothing against the guy, I just hope not yet…
I love Gruden,Gruden loves Tebow,Tebow loves being a LEADER,sounds like a match made in Heaven to me!!!!!!!!!!!
Time 4 change in Denver!!!!!!!!
yeah strandoftds I agree bro!…..D-E-F-E-N-S-E…NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree ChargerHater0315….. Seems like yesterday when the players were saying that our D is an attacking, ball hawking, gang tackleing style of D. Yet I haven’t seen either of the 3 this year.
It’s crazy how other teams could get pressure with their front 4 and sometimes 3. While we get no pressure even with 5! Alot of false land was sold to us fans before and during camp. Maybe Dawkins should save some of that pre-game energy for the actual game. No I’m not calling him out, I’m just saying the facts from last night. People got highly upset last week when I tried to say the facts about Champs lack of effort.
Glass still half full theory:
The Broncos could still win the SB! IF……
Heck freezez over…
Pigs fly…
We were the last team on earth…
Elway un-retires tomorrow…
We transfer into the CFL…
We spike the gatorade of all other 31 teams in the leauge and get them disqualified for banned substances….
We create an Orange time machine, go back two years and hire Rex Ryan to be the HC…
We hire a guy off the street who looks like a coach, have him stand on the sideline in an ORANGE hoodie with a clip board and just let Tebow call the plays from the huddle….
We bring back Steve Atwater and Tyrone Braxton to play Safety…
Maybe we could just give up on this season and shoot for the #1 draft slot!!!!!! Yeah!
McD could use that #1 pick for Jake Locker and then we could have Locker, Quinn and Tebow “pushing” Orton to play better next year… Man I bet Orton will be GREAT next year with all those QB’s on the bench making him play harder…. Probably set all kinds of passing records…. It’s gonna be great! We are really going to be a contender in a few years… Good times..good times…
McD ain’t gonna play Tebow, because he thinks we can win more games with Orton, what does it matter if we win 1or2 games the rest of the year.We still ain’t gonna finish no better than 5-11.McD will do whatever makes him look good(it’s not really possible at this point). He will tell Mr.B “we will trade Orton, get a stockpile of draft picks and play our franchise QB Tebow next year, and go to the playoffs”.Don’t believe him Mr.B,he has already put this team in a hole that will take years to dig out of.We were a DC away from getting back to the playoffs, now we are the NFL’s new doormat. It’s a sad day to be a Broncos fan…………..
FIRE MCD!!!!!!!!!!
Everything’s a mess…lack of effort would be an understatement. As a teams they can’t seem to get anything right. I totally with you caramelloo about the lack of pressure from denver and then to watch other teams hit the qb on every down no matter how many they rush…sickening! Back in the old days the Broncos were good for at least 40-50 sacks a year with at least one guy in double digits, now they’re lucky to be in double digits at all for the season! Pass rush and running game, 2 Bronco staples that are non-existent this year. Awful!
“Denver Broncos-Grey Cup Champions”…Has a nice ring to it Orange!
Trade Quinn first…for a fullback or somebody like that, then lock all the O-Linemen in a room and make them watch film of the Broncos rushing attack from ’95-’05 and see if they can learn a thing or too from Stink, Nails, Habib, Zimmerman, Jones etc. Then give them some of Schlereth’s green chili and wait 2 hours…The recipe for a better running game!
Bowlen,
Not sure what it’s going to take to get you to listen, but PLEASE FIRE MCD and Xanders. Hire a quality GM and let him make all the decisions regarding our future HC and DC. It’s your fault things have gotten this bad, so do the right thing and FIX IT ALREADY! Can’t you see how bad it’s gotten???? WTF…
Oh don’t talk about running!! Everytime Foster gets me fantasy points I say…. “He’s running in that old Denver Offense”
To be honest I don’t wanna see that last game against the Chargers. Especially if they still need to win to get in. They weren’t even healthy last night and beat us down. lord only knows what they will look like when they are healthy.
I think we should get patrick Peterson from LSU as one of our picks in the draft.
caramelloo….I see what you are saying now bro!
I seen the quit in our team last night,it’s like when we fall behind the players start letting up,that makes me sick.Dawkins is one of my favorite players of all time, even when he played for Philly, but the dude is washed up now,he has NO speed, and is missing tackles,I’m not saying he gave up,because he didn’t,he is just done, the guy is WAY past his prime, and it showed big time last night…we need youth and speed on Defense!!!!!!
Wink ain’t cutting it either, and the Offense didn’t do any better.pass,pass,pass..no wonder Orton has 3000 yds,who couldn’t when you don’t even try to run the damn ball!
BAD COACHING=BAD PERFERMANCE=BAD LOSSES.
Or use Orange-Crusher’s Rex Ryan time machine and bring all those former Bronco linemen back in their prime!
I agree on Patrick Peterson from LSU,the guy is great, and probably the best DB to come out in years,I’ve watched him play this year, all I can say is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need some nasty players on Offense and Defense!
This is probably the biggest disppointing game yet. First, Bay, I want to apologize for ever thinking the Broncos were “on the right track”. I should have known that the first week the o line played together against KC and never allowed a sack or even a hit on Orton was a myth. I should have known the receivers couldn’t really catch the ball. I should have known the defense didn’t know how to tackle. I should have known not to believe. Ok I’ll buy in. I think we should fire McD today and make Wink the new HC, just like Minnesota. Promote the D cordinator right after giving up a bunch of points. Makes perfect sense to me now.
We could’ve had Raheem Morris…Tampa’s looking good!
Rex Ryan wanted to come here,I can’t stand the guy,but if he was running his mouth for us,I’d probably love the guy, just saying.
They need more than nasty…if they could channel Tom Jackson into Mario Haggan, Randy Gradishar into Jason Hunter, With a dash of Karl Mecklenburg and even a sprinkle of Al Wilson they’d be on the right track! Don’t forget a pinch of Steve Atwater and Dennis Smith for the secondary!
I agree Beast, Rex Ryan needs to shut up….but I wouldn’t be saying that if he was here!
BFE, were all in this together bro. Were a team, win or lose, fans included.
And it’s not looking to good for us…I’m confident though it won’t last forever though!
Ya, Petrson is a shut down for LSU.
Adam Schefter said on 850 KOA before the game that if the Bronco`s would not of hired McD last year, they were going to offer the job to Leslie Frazier now the Interum HC of the Vikings. Interesting news, kind of.
We definitely need a Defensive minded HC.
We do need youth and speed on D, hell ya!!
BeastFromEast92 I’m glad we are on the same page. I was starting to question myself until last night. I told my wife, “I’m not pissed off at the loss!! I’m pissed of bc there’s no full effort once we were down.” Most of the guys were like… Ahhhh we won’t come back so lets get this game over with.
We give more effort in suppoting them than they give us on the field. I think many of us get so upset over a loss bc we invest just as much into the Broncos organization as the players do.
We passed up alot of coaches who are doing real good right now. The Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns are more competitive than us.
If the players give up,how can we as fans NOT give up?
If there not giving their all how can we,I mean I will never give up on my team, but however I do give up on this season!!!!!!!!!
I will say this, love or hate McD,the coach is held responsible for how the players perform, either they don’t wanna play for the guy or he just ain’t getting them prepared for the games, either way it falls on him.
You can either blame 1 coach or 53 players.
BeastFromEast92 oh I know what you’re saying. That’s what I admire about Mike Tomlin. He holds his players accountable the same way he holds himself accountable. Don’t talk about we are prepared for the games and certain situations. Yet when everything actually happens….. we choke!
We are not a good football team right now.
The reality is that the Broncos got beat by the probable AFC Super Bowl representative. Rivers is a loud mouthed punk, but he does back it up. He is playing at a level several steps about the rest of the QBs and will likely end up MVP.
Despite the losss, which I felt fairly certain would happen, I’m in the minority and didn’t see the Broncos just going through thew motions like they did in the Raiders game. The running game certainly has looked much better the last two games and should continue to improve. Yes, our defense is old and a major infusion of young talent is essential.
Did any of you look at the rest of the Chargers schedule? The only team that will be a challange is the Colts. At worst they’ll be 10-6. Take a look at KC and Raider remaining games and tell me that either of them can finish at 10-6. Hate to say it, but Charges will be atop AFC West again.
Broncos 31 Rams 17.
Once the chargers make the playoffs, they will be eliminated week one as always. They just can`t win the big one.
I hate my self for saying this, but I quit on this season. I saw mcd and the players quit on this game. That just hurt in so many levels. But out the few games I have been able to watch this season, I feel we have a team with alot of good stuff to start off with. We just need a coach that knows what to do with this talent. Because mcd is like the kid who was born in rich family, that thought he could do what he thought all his life. but is failing because he dose not know how to start from the bottom up. He shows some up side, but the sad side of this business we want results right now. I just hope all he needs is this season. Like you said bay, he has one more season left at least on his contact!!! But have a happy thanksgiving my bronco family!!!
