Broncos at Cardinals: Gameday Coverage

August 31st, 2012 - 12:02am by Gray Caldwell

BRONCOS AT CARDINALS:

FINAL SCORE: BRONCOS 16, CARDINALS 13: Denver trailed 10-0 in the second half, but came from behind to secure a 16-13 victory on a 44-yard game-winning field goal by kicker Matt Prater.

The Broncos are at University of Phoenix Stadium to close out the preseason against the Arizona Cardinals. Players from both teams are on the field warming up — the Broncos in all-white uniforms, the Cardinals with red jerseys and white pants.

STARTERS WORK OUT: Earlier in the evening, a group of 25 Broncos hit the field for a workout with Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Richesson. It was essentially the first-team offense and defense, so it likely signaled that group of players wouldn’t suit up for tonight’s game. With just about 25 minutes until kickoff, it became official — those 25 players won’t play.

CAPTAINS, COIN TOSS AND STARTERS: The Broncos won the coin toss and received to start the game. The starters looked a little different for the fourth preseason game.

CARDINALS ON THE BOARD FIRST: An acrobatic, 22-yard touchdown catch by Arizona rookie Michael Floyd gives the Cardinals a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.

BRONCOS SCORELESS AT HALFTIME: Denver nearly put points on the scoreboard right at the end of the second quarter, but a sack kept the Broncos scoreless at halftime.

CARDINALS LEAD 10-0: Arizona got into scoring position with a 52-yard bomb, but the Broncos defense held strong and forced a field goal.

BOLDEN PROVIDES SCORING SPARK: Cornerback Omar Bolden got the Broncos back in the game with a 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

ALL TIED UP AT 10-10: The running game powered the Broncos 94 yards down the field, and Matt Prater knocked home a field goal to tie the game.

INJURY UPDATE: Safety Duke Ihenacho has a mild concussion and will not return to the game.

BRONCOS TAKE LEAD LATE: An interception by cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson put the Broncos in scoring position, and Prater knocked home a 43-yarder to give Denver its first lead.

FEELY’S FIELD GOAL TIES GAME: Jay Feely hit a 35-yard field goal to tie the game 13-13 late in the fourth quarter.

alright I’m back from some cleaning: how has Hillman looked?

  2. skillz_inc says:

    like a BOSS

  3. alaskanbronco06 says:

Have you actually watched him play this preseason? Or are you just going off the fact he didnt play last year? He has played great and with Decker and DMT taking the double teams he will exploit that.

  4. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Very average Buddha…

  5. CARAMELLOO says:

We need Stokley for those critical 3rd downs

  6. tlcat06 says:

Fine, BT, but you still haven’t told me who is better than him on the roster.

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

AB… you know better than anyone that I watch every snap of Bronco Football

  8. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Even the Scrubs!!! :o )

  9. skillz_inc says:

i am gonna call hillman NITRO!!!!!!

  10. tlcat06 says:

Buddha, Hillman is doing well, breaking tackles and showing flashes of his speed. Can’t wait for him to play this season

  11. atodaro says:

hillman has been great. really looking forward to him being our third down back, and willis and knowshon powering the ball

  12. alaskanbronco06 says:

Then you should see how great he has been! Most consistent WR and while he isnt as fast he still is fast but he is as quick as ever. Can really juke the defender to get a gap to make a catch.

  13. atodaro says:

gotta admit, i thought knowshon was gonna be a 1200 yard back before the injury

  14. BuddhaBroncos says:

Well I’m glad to hear the majority thinks Hillman has been looking good. I have high hopes for him

  15. atodaro says:

he looked awesome last year before the injury

  16. atodaro says:

hillman doing the draw play, or the screen or any swing passes, he gonna be awsome

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

Hillman has also shown toughness and strength running between tackles.

  18. alaskanbronco06 says:

I think the announcer asked a good question. How many of these guys see no sleep tonight? And how many go over this game over and over again in their head.

  19. tlcat06 says:

    WIZARD TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

AB… what I see in him is a vet that knows how to take the space he’s given in the soft cover 2 schemes that D show in Preseason… you know these things man

  21. tlcat06 says:

    Nicely done, Squid!

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

Man nice play by Squid!!!!! 6 CBs? I REALLY THINK SO!!!! Bye bye Tony

  23. Bronco_Turtle says:

I love Squid… he has the best nickname ever… and he is a real ball hawk in regular season games

  24. atodaro says:

did i or did i not say he has a nose for the ball? hes gonna be our corner in the dime set.

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

Well he faced press coverage a few times and was able to shake the defender to get open. Sometimes the ball was thrown his way and made the catch other times the ball wasnt thrown his way even. As for Squids I think if we keep him he may see time as a safety when we want more speed out there. Has Ed Reed ball hawking potential IMO

  26. atodaro says:

hes gonna get a few picks with the amount of pressure there is gonna be on the QB

  27. alaskanbronco06 says:

Stokley also brings a good thing off the field to our young WR corp. He knows Manning very well. Would really be able to mentor our young guys and help them get better at route running and adapting to Mannings style.

  28. tlcat06 says:

    Matt Prater!

  29. Bronco_Turtle says:

He’s here at Mannings request there is no doubt about that…

  30. skillz_inc says:

    Prater is MONEY as alays

  31. atodaro says:

vons gonna have between 17-20 sacks this season dumervil willl have at least 10. its gonna be a good season boys

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

Ihenacho will get the ax i think. Needed to see more of him but is our with a mild concussion. Might be brought back to the PS I think.

  33. atodaro says:

prater is the most underrated kicker in the league

  34. alaskanbronco06 says:

ANOTHER PLAY BY JACKSON!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to get your hands up!!!! Something Ayers doesnt do…..

  35. Bronco_Turtle says:

I know Prater is the Bomb, but does he give anybody the same warm and fuzzy feeling that Elam use to give us… ? I mean, I love Prater, and wouldn’t trade him for anyone in the league, but I still don’t just sit back in my chair and say ‘money’ when the ball is snapped the way I use to with Elam

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

Nice try by Carter. I think it was his attempt to make his case and keep pace with Squid

  37. skillz_inc says:

i like how jackson always gets his hands up if he can’t get to the qb we must keep him

  38. alaskanbronco06 says:

BT I am the same way. I felt so much different with Elam but I still love having Prater.

  39. atodaro says:

yeah, elam was the man. but now theres a new one. the quality that is most underated for prater, the faact that the opponet starts at the 20 yard line everytime it seems like

  40. alaskanbronco06 says:

I love how Jackson has really played all this game!!!! Really getting a chance to strut his stuff!!!

  41. skillz_inc says:

and he is still performing ata very high level too ab

  42. Bronco_Turtle says:

my favorite part about Prater is his HEMP necklace!!!

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Yes he is Skillz!!!

  44. skillz_inc says:

good sign of things to come

  45. skillz_inc says:

i want the extra players for defese no need to carry 3 qb’s or 6 wrs rather have an extra lineman and or crner/backer

  46. Bronco_Turtle says:

I’m so excited about our Linebackers this season… of all positions that is the one that really makes me feel good! Miller is all World, Mays is one of the very best run stuffers in all the league, and between W2, Irving, Johnson and Tray we have alot of talent to fill the Will until DJ returns

  47. alaskanbronco06 says:

Skillz I disagree about 6 WRs that we will run a lot of 3 and 4 WR set I think and having 2 extra will keep them fresh.

  48. wolfedom says:

    Syd beaten again

  49. skillz_inc says:

well good thing they arn’t soccer players then

  50. Bronco_Turtle says:

They better not kick a FG… has anyone ever seen OT in a playoff game?
