Broncos at Cardinals: Gameday Coverage

August 31st, 2012 - 12:02am by Gray Caldwell

BRONCOS AT CARDINALS:

FINAL SCORE: BRONCOS 16, CARDINALS 13: Denver trailed 10-0 in the second half, but came from behind to secure a 16-13 victory on a 44-yard game-winning field goal by kicker Matt Prater.

The Broncos are at University of Phoenix Stadium to close out the preseason against the Arizona Cardinals. Players from both teams are on the field warming up — the Broncos in all-white uniforms, the Cardinals with red jerseys and white pants.

STARTERS WORK OUT: Earlier in the evening, a group of 25 Broncos hit the field for a workout with Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Richesson. It was essentially the first-team offense and defense, so it likely signaled that group of players wouldn’t suit up for tonight’s game. With just about 25 minutes until kickoff, it became official — those 25 players won’t play.

CAPTAINS, COIN TOSS AND STARTERS: The Broncos won the coin toss and received to start the game. The starters looked a little different for the fourth preseason game.

CARDINALS ON THE BOARD FIRST: An acrobatic, 22-yard touchdown catch by Arizona rookie Michael Floyd gives the Cardinals a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.

BRONCOS SCORELESS AT HALFTIME: Denver nearly put points on the scoreboard right at the end of the second quarter, but a sack kept the Broncos scoreless at halftime.

CARDINALS LEAD 10-0: Arizona got into scoring position with a 52-yard bomb, but the Broncos defense held strong and forced a field goal.

BOLDEN PROVIDES SCORING SPARK: Cornerback Omar Bolden got the Broncos back in the game with a 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

ALL TIED UP AT 10-10: The running game powered the Broncos 94 yards down the field, and Matt Prater knocked home a field goal to tie the game.

INJURY UPDATE: Safety Duke Ihenacho has a mild concussion and will not return to the game.

BRONCOS TAKE LEAD LATE: An interception by cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson put the Broncos in scoring position, and Prater knocked home a 43-yarder to give Denver its first lead.

FEELY’S FIELD GOAL TIES GAME: Jay Feely hit a 35-yard field goal to tie the game 13-13 late in the fourth quarter.

Tebow time is gone. I’m a bit confused right now? *scratching my head*

  2. alaskanbronco06 says:

That is a TD. Could see the green!!!! I still think Squid will make it over Carter….

  3. skillz_inc says:

    lol cat ha

  4. tlcat06 says:

Thought that was was insurmountable and then Bolden does that. Holy cow!!!

  5. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Lmao Cat!!!

  6. Bronco_Turtle says:

Bailey, Harris, Porter, Florence and Bolden… you think 6 CB’s AB?

  7. atodaro says:

squid has value as a returner, and i could see him in being used in dime formations too. I think he has a good nose for the ball

  8. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yea BT I think 6. Bolden and Squid will help the return game. What I have seen of Carter on D and ST has been awful

  9. Bronco_Turtle says:

then is Caldwell a cut or Willis? we don’t need 4 potential returners that don’t contribute anywhere else do we?

  10. CARAMELLOO says:

Willis cut! He plays to timid

  11. atodaro says:

caldwell is going to be our robert meachem. hes gonna make the team.

  12. alaskanbronco06 says:

BT With how bad our return game was without Royal I think we should. Caldwell can really help as a WR as well. Bolden and Squid be the main returners. But if anyone cut WIllis. Last week he made 4 horrible decisions.

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

That was the longest return in Denver Broncos history!!!! 103 yards

  14. Bronco_Turtle says:

ok… with Deckers ability as a kick returner I’m seeing at least 2 of those four being axed… and keeping an extra LB like Johnson

  15. tlcat06 says:

Bolden is ALREADY setting records. Gotta keep him. He can learn from the best!

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

BT I just think Caldwell and Willis can help as WR as well which might help them stay. Plus have the option to play as a returner in case Bolden and/or Squid gets hurt. But I would love to keep Johnson.

  17. atodaro says:

    too fast
    receivers
    1.thomas
    2.decker
    3.caldwell
    4.stokley
    5.willis maybe PS
    6.robinson MaybePS

  18. alaskanbronco06 says:

Willis cant make the PS. To many regular season games played. I think we keep 6 WRs as well. 6 corners 6 WRs. Cant forget Hill as a WR as well.

  19. Bronco_Turtle says:

Hill is the one I want… over Caldwell, Willis

  20. atodaro says:

yeah i was just looking at that too. hill will bump out robinson and land him on the practice squad

  21. tlcat06 says:

Am I the only one who doesn’t want Deck returning kicks?

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

I wouldn’t be disappointed if we let Stokley go either

  23. tlcat06 says:

    RONNIE!!!

  24. atodaro says:

they say caldwell is easily the fastest on the team.

  25. skillz_inc says:

i like hill over caldwell too

  26. Bronco_Turtle says:

    only cause they traded Vaughn!

  27. tlcat06 says:

BT Stokley isn’t going anywhere, especially after he made that ridiculous catch last week. Sorry.

  28. atodaro says:

nope, he’s too valuable catching the ball, he and manning are gonna complete a ton of passes

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

Robinson should make the PS. 3 years on it when possibly Os take over as starter. Would be great. I dont want to see Stokes go. Hes been a very consistent WR this preseason and has played pretty well.

  30. Bronco_Turtle says:

You will see in the regular season AB… he’s lost a step, and when he gets a full press coverage he will disappear

  31. Bronco_Turtle says:

He is solid as a possession reciever, but the slot guy should be able to exploit mismatches and shred a D, like he use to or like Welker does nowadays

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

I like Caldwell and Hill. I dont like Willis way to many mental mistakes. Would rather have Robinson or Orton over him. BT he has lost a step but he still can ball. Hes shown that this preseason.

  33. Bronco_Turtle says:

Maybe we can put Hillman on the PS and keep JJ on the 53 to start the season

  34. skillz_inc says:

jjwhat i say earliar he will win us this game period

  35. alaskanbronco06 says:

Stokley will be able to exploit mismatches. He still has speed and has solid hands. Plus he isnt afraid to be physical. As for Hillman I highly doubt he clears waivers. No way do we risk that!

  36. tlcat06 says:

Brock looks good. And I cannot get over how much he reminds me of Philip Rivers.

  37. atodaro says:

    prollly wont happen that way

    1. willis
    2. hillman
    3. knowshon
    4. Ball
    jj Ps

  38. CARAMELLOO says:

I’ve always been biased towards Stokley since we both are from Louisiana.

  39. atodaro says:

    3 or 4 RB’s though

  40. CARAMELLOO says:

Finally we have a nice flow going

  41. tlcat06 says:

No. I say Hillman makes the 53 man roster. He will not make it through waivers!

  42. alaskanbronco06 says:

Robinson has done well. He fights for the ball. Needs improvement running routes but hes big fast and strong and plus he can block! And 4 RBs McG Hillman Moreno and Ball I think. JJ on the PS. Or Moreno traded and the other 4 on the 53 man roster.

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

Hillman wont clear waivers and no way they would even risk it.

  44. Bronco_Turtle says:

I’m not convinced that Ball even stays… I want to see as surprise cuts him and Stokes getting pink slipped at the same time!!!

  45. tlcat06 says:

Haha… AB he still thinks Stokley isn’t making the team.

  46. alaskanbronco06 says:

BT you will be disappointed. Stokley isnt going anywhere.

  47. Bronco_Turtle says:

I know that… but he’s taking up a valuable roster spot..

  48. tlcat06 says:

Who is better than him, BT?

  49. skillz_inc says:

should have gave jj the ball there

  50. Bronco_Turtle says:

There is a reason he was out of the league last year, and it wasn’t an injury guys
