COIN TOSS: The Broncos captains – joined by John Elway – call heads. It is heads and the Broncos will receive.
Q1 15:00: Joe Nedney’s opening kickoff is fielded by Demaryius Thomas who breaks tackles to the 32-yard line.
Broncos start out on offense with; Beadles, Kuper, Walton, Clady, Hochstein, Graham, Quinn, Moreno, Gronkowski, Gaffney and Orton.
Q1 14:00: After two Moreno runs, the Broncos face third-and-four and try a reverse with Thomas. The 49ers sniff it out and are forced to punt.
Q1 12:56: 49ers take over with the Broncos lined up in a 4-3 with McBean, Thomas, Bannan, Jamal Williams, D.J. Williams, Haggan, Hunter, Dawkins, Hill, Bailey and Goodman the starters for the defense.
A short run by Frank Gore on first down and an incomplete on second down have the 49ers looking at a third-and-seven. Brian Westbrook gets the call on the run, and only gets 2-yard setting up a punt. Eddie Royal lets the punt go over his head, but a good bounce keeps it out of the endzone and the 49ers down it at the Broncos’ 3-yard line.
Q1 11:56: The Broncos begin their second possession with Kyle Orton getting his pass attempt knocked down as he was looking for Jabar Gaffney. The duo hook up second down for an 18-yard gain and a first down.
A 17-yard gain by Knowshon Moreno has the Broncos setup at their 39-yard line, where Orton picks up another first down connecting with Brandon Lloyd. The Broncos are now in 49ers territory.
Q1 9:00: Moreno gets five yards on first down, but all-world linebacker Patrick Willis sniffs out the screen and stops Moreno for a loss of a yard on second down. Third-and-6, Orton drops back but is sacked as the 49ers come with a blitz. 9-yard loss and the Broncos will punt. Colquitt’s punt is fielded by Ginn – who spins – but is brought down by Cassius Vaughn at the 18-yard line.
Q1 7:54: Broncos again line up in the 4-3 defense, as Smith hits tight end Delanie Walker for a gain of six. Gore picks up the first down on second down, with a gain of 13 yards.
After a short run and an incomplete pass, the 49ers face third-and-8 at the 39. Smith drops, and hits Vernon Davis on a quick slant for the first down. Gain of 12, first down at the Broncos 49.
Q1 4:54: Gore gets one on first down and then Smith hits Walker on another quick slant for a 10-yard gain and first down. 49ers have the ball at the Broncos 36-yard line.
Q1 3:00: The 49ers are putting together a nice drive and have moved to the Broncos 26-yard line. Gore gets seven on first down as he weaved his way through the hole. On second-and-3, Smith gives the ball to Gore who looks like he is just short of the first down. Third-and-inches, and Gore is stuffed for no gain. Joe Nedney takes the field for a field goal attempt of 35-yards. The left-footer splits the uprights and the 49ers take a 3-0 lead.
49ERS 3, BRONCOS 0; 0:23 Q1
Q1 0:23: Thomas is back deep again for the Broncos. He takes the ball a few yards in the endzone and returns it to the 26-yard line where the Broncos will have a first-and-ten.
Q1 0:17: Orton hits Eddie Royal on the bubble screen, Royal alludes a tackler and is close to a first down. But, a flag is on the field. Lloyd was called for offensive pass interference pushing the Broncos back 10-yards to the 16-yard line as the first quarter comes to a close.
Q2 15:00 First-and-20 at the 16 to start quarter two. Orton looks to setup the screen and has Moreno. Moreno picks up 15 yards setting up a more manageable second down. Orton takes the second down snap, looks and dumps the pass to Daniel Graham who gets the first down at the 41-yard line.
Q2 13:00 Moreno gets 4 yards on first down and then loses 2 on second down. Third-and-8, Orton in the gun with Buckhalter to his right. He hits Royal, who can’t allude the tackler and can’t get the first down. Colquitt on to punt. Ginn takes the punt, dances and gets to the 20-yard line before being brought down by Eric Decker.
Q2 11:42 First-and-ten 49ers, they give the ball to Ginn who picks up 9-yards on the end-around. Second-and-one, the give is to Gore who picks up the first down with the short gain.
Q2 10:10 A 4-yard gain by Gore on first down and an incomplete on second down and the 49ers have a third-and-six. Smith under center, wants a quick slant, its not there and he throws the ball incomplete. Lee is out to punt as Royal sets to return. Royal takes the punt, makes a move and is taken down by his facemask. Indeed a flag is thrown and the Broncos will start at the 31-yard line.
Q2 9:32 Moreno gets the ball on first down, but a flag is on the field. Illegal formation is called, and a 5-yard loss. First-and-15 at their 26-yard line. 2-yards on first down as Orton hits Buckhalter out of the backfield. Orton zips a pass on second down to Gaffney for a gain of 14 and a first down at the 42-yard line.
Q2 7:44 After a short gain by Moreno, Orton is in the gun. He takes the snap and here comes the pressure. He alludes the rush and throws the ball away bringing up third-and-eight. Again in the gun, Orton steps up to avoid the rush, tucks the ball and gets 6 yards. Fourth-and-two and Colquitt is back out. Ginn calls for the fair catch, and the 49ers take over at the 11-yard line.
Q2 6:30 Six-yards on first down for Gore, who takes the second down pitch around the left side for a big gain – 21 yards. First down 49ers at their 38-yard line. Anthony Dixon spells Gore, and is stopped by Champ Bailey for a yard loss. Second down, Smith gives the ball to Gore, who sprints inside and gets six. Third-and-four, and the 49ers try the quick slant again, but this one is too far ahead of Josh Morgan. Their punt unit is back out and Royal is deep. He has the bouncing punt jump on him, recovers and dives forward for a few yards. Broncos take over at the 18-yard line.
Q2 3:54 Orton starts the drive in the gun, and gives the ball to Moreno who gets a short gain of 2-yards. Second-and-eight and Orton is sacked, but looks like Manny Lawson tackled Orton by his head and the laundry is on the field. Two penalties on the 49ers, illegal hands to the face which is declined and then the roughing the passer penalty gives the Broncos 15 yards.
After a pass to Moreno and a carry by him, the Broncos are looking at third-and-three after the two-minute warning.
Just announced in the press box, 49ers tight end Vernon Davis has an ankle injury and his return is doubtful.
Q2 2:00 Third-and-three for the Broncos at their 35-yard line. Orton has tons of time and hits Gronkowski for the first down at the 43-yard line.
Hurry up offense, Orton hits Buckhalter for 4-yards and then picks up the first down with a completion to Lloyd. Timeout Broncos.
Q2 1:05 First-and-ten at the 49ers 47-yard line. Orton remains in the shotgun with Buckhalter to his right. Orton threads the needle between three defenders, but Gaffney can’t hang on to the pass. Second-and-ten, Orton scampers to avoid the rush and throws the ball away. Flag on the field, and the Broncos had an illegal man downfield – Russ Hochstein. Second-and-15, and Orton is sacked by Justin Smith. Third-and-23 at the Denver 40-yard line and the 49ers call a timeout.
Q2 0:15 Third-and-23, Orton sets up the screen and Buckhalter gets to midfield and is forced out of bounds. Colquitt is back out, and kicks it out of bounds at the 49ers 18-yard line with a one second remaining. 49ers take a knee, and we are at halftime. 49ers 3 – Broncos 0. 49ers will receive the second half kickoff. See you in the second half blog.

Hello Broncos Fans
Olay!!

really cause three first downs by troy smith so far
what is clear is that we need points when we get the ball
did we stop gore on 3rd and short?
clock management?
wow our offense doesn’t look any better than last week
still don’t look good in 1st quarter mark of a poorly coached team
gotta stop them on d
Wow why would you run the ball twice and in a row. We are a passing team not a running team. Stupid playcalling so far
what is wrong with our offense?
really, we are not putting three plays together
its the whole show we don’t look good anywhere this is a third string QB who hasn’t started in three years
benbronc..you r right, it may come down to our defense making a play.
that was nice
you were rite to at least moreno looks decent today
good stop….now put points on the board
but lol decent 2 yards per carry what has it come down to for us the fans cheering medeocrity
pass first take a shot down the field
whats with the trick plays on offense? This 49ers d is too disciplined
illegal formation?…..offensive interference?..what holding next?
we can’t get anything going penalties lack of discipline
first down!!!!!!yea!!!!
lets get some points
orton!!! r u kidding me?? dont go down until you have the first down!!
it is hard to watch this team he dove a yard short without being hit????
gashig us for 5 yards a chunk and we knew we had to stop him
here we go, 3rd and 4…
well the defense is doing thier job today…
wow, what a break for the offense..on a call from the ref
i hope that call in our favor doesn’t come back to bit us..
you are rite 007 between this weekly blogg and the way this team is playing hard to watch harder to be positive but football supposed to be fun so I will try to get positive enjoy the game
it is close points any points would be good change the game
we have kinda been moveing the ball what about a shot down field a 20 or more try
ok, me too…..look at that, we converted!!
where is tebow package today
i agree, orton has great protection this quarter. maybe a shot down the field to mix it up.
MCD must not want to start a qb contreversy
our offensive line is questionable today
didn’ mean to disagree mabey too negative
need twenty yards
little mistakes are killing us but it is still close so any thing is possible
Another disappointing half
I am watching the worst nfl team in all three phases and its not San Fran
boooooooooooooo
I now believe they will not win another game this year, there is nobody they can beat
Easily the most uninspired team in the NFL. Most all of you will not agree, but this team is in the process of quitting on their coach. And their coach, albeit a nice guy, is in way over his head in this league. We are so predictable…..1st down RUN 2nd down Bubble Screen 3rd and long Screen or Throw over the middle 4th down Punt It’s just sad.
