Philip Blake didn’t grow up with football.
Being from Canada, Blake didn’t have very many football resources. However, his mother came home from a trip to New York with a present that would change his life.
The John Madden video game.
“I started playing it,” Blake — who couldn’t remember if it was Madden ’98 or ’99 — said in a conference call. “From then on I fell in love with the game.”
From there, Blake furthered his game at Baylor, where he learned from current Broncos center J.D. Walton.
“J.D. Walton is a real good guy,” Blake said. “When I made the move to center he gave me a few tips. I’ve played with him, and I’ll learn from him again, so I know that’s a great experience.”
Blake said he could play guard or center, and has experience playing both positions. He can also squat an hefty 635 pounds.
“Yes, sir,” Blake said. “All the way down and all the way up.”
