Blake: From Virtual to Reality

April 28th, 2012 - 11:42am by Kenny Legan

Philip Blake didn’t grow up with football.

Being from Canada, Blake didn’t have very many football resources. However, his mother came home from a trip to New York with a present that would change his life.

The John Madden video game.

“I started playing it,” Blake — who couldn’t remember if it was Madden ’98 or ’99 — said in a conference call. “From then on I fell in love with the game.”

From there, Blake furthered his game at Baylor, where he learned from current Broncos center J.D. Walton.

“J.D. Walton is a real good guy,” Blake said. “When I made the move to center he gave me a few tips. I’ve played with him, and I’ll learn from him again, so I know that’s a great experience.”

Blake said he could play guard or center, and has experience playing both positions. He can also squat an hefty 635 pounds.

“Yes, sir,” Blake said. “All the way down and all the way up.”

Jackson I think will backup Ayers also sub in and out and also challenge for starting job.

  2. Louisianabroncofan says:

man the bengals are just tearing it up this year. heck last year was good too. they should be really good for a long time.

  3. SWBronco says:

YES we pick right before the raiders in rd 6! That means we can get Burfict. I’m prepping myself to not get him though for whatever reason.

  4. alaskanbronco06 says:

Well there goes Criner. Dang. Streeter and Jones (Dwight not Marvin) are still there. So it Carrier, Dale Moss, and Gerrell Robinson (ASU) Maze also.

LBs Trevathan, Acho, Cole, Burfict and a new guy I like Ryan Baker LSU

  5. OrangeTsunami says:

Man, Cincy just keeps adding their draft…

Wtf is wrong with Billy Winn that we dont know about??

  6. Bronco_Turtle says:

I wouldn’t mind Chris Polk with 188 if it’s not burfict… he will have a solid career as a pro…

and is Ganaway still availabel AB?

  7. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Ganaway IS still available.

I also want to know WTF is wrong with Billy Winn??? The fn kid is athletic strong and flexible

  8. alaskanbronco06 says:

So is B F Es guy Vick Ballard. We can get him and cut Lane Fumbles da Ball ;)

  9. alaskanbronco06 says:

Never mind. LOL As soon as I say Ballard is there he gets picked LOL Of course that would happen.

  10. OrangeTsunami says:

Clearly there is something up with him that none of the “experts” don’t know about…

  11. Bronco_Turtle says:

Thanks AB… I like Ganaway as a bruiser… Like Jacobs! he would be a quality UDFA pick up also if still available

It is very possible that EFX felt as though Osweiler was too good to pass up on. You never know what they saw in private workouts. We can say what we want, and we can feel what we want, but there is a reason we blog from home and they get paid the big bucks. There are so many players every year that people love that bust, and that people hate that boom. It is a crap shoot, so I will trust EFX in what they saw.

Our first pick was a DT, so that right there shows that they are willing to address some big needs. I am excited to see what Wolfe brings to the DLine next to Bannan and Warren.

Hillman is an ankle breaker, and is a homerun type of back. In our zone blocking scheme, he can be majorly effective. And he can be the player Moreno was supposed to be but couldn’t due to injuries.

Bolden is a risk, but if he returns to form from injury he can be an absolute steal in this draft. Him and Porter help get some more youth in our defensive backfield along with Harris, Thompson, and Vaughn. I like the pick.

Blake is a great pick up to take the job from Walton, who really hasn’t been that impressive.

And Jackson gives us more depth on the Dline which is always welcome, especially here in Denver.

I like the draft so far. It hasn’t been full of big names, but they are getting players that they feel can contribute right away and be solid players. Time will tell if they got it right, but I am not upset by any of it. But I also avoided talking players until I knew who we drafted. Saved me the heartache of the Broncos not drafting people I really liked.

  13. OrangeTsunami says:

Well, we had a better draft than the Raiders…. ;)

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

It has got to be something with his interviews. Cause the experts dont know how they go. He had to have come off bad in them

  15. skillz_inc says:

denver i think next year i will do the same lol heart broken way too much this draft

  16. SWBronco says:

right now I’m pulling all the way for burfict! then we can go through UDFA and pick up more steals haha

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

BT I like Ganaway also. We would have four RBs that all have a different role. McGahee the old vet getting inside runs. Moreno hurt on the bench ;) lol but seriously Moreno and Hillman getting screens and getting outside runs. Ganaway our bruiser!

  18. OrangeTsunami says:

I kind of like that we took under the radar type guys. They are the type to bust their ass off in camp, do whatever is asked of them, and don’t come in with a sense of entitlement.. Positive thinking? Perhaps, we’ll see..

  19. SWBronco says:

OT, me too. I’ve always believed that but you never know

  20. skillz_inc says:

looks like jj and ball are on the outs whom is the other rb coming back from injury for the broncos he may be on the way out as well

  21. OrangeTsunami says:

I’m down for another RB personally. I’ve said over and over again, I want to see us run the ball 25+ times a game, and help squeeze a few more years out of PM

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT you may be glad to hear from what ive seen and what ive been hearing Malik Jackson can be a JPP type DE.

  23. Ikiratuki says:

Philip Blake is my favorite pick so far. for the next pick i’d like to see us pick Billy Winn or Marcus Forston

  24. SWBronco says:

We haven’t drafted our LB yet. Who else is one the board that we might be looking at?

  25. OrangeTsunami says:

That’s pretty wishful thinking AB.. Lol

  26. alaskanbronco06 says:

Travis Lewis Vontaze Burfict Danny Trevathan Audie Cole Ryan Baker Emmanuel Acho are all LBs I hope Denver considers. Part of me thinks with how long theyve waited they are hoping on Burfict…

  27. skillz_inc says:

lol i was thinking the same thing ot he may be like ayers but that is it ;)

  28. SWBronco says:

Guess we’ll find out soon enough

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT Ive heard it a few times that he has that potential but he hasnt had many flashes of it but has had a few. Some film of him makes me think he can be also. But Fox and JDR are really going to have to coach him up a lot to get him there.

  30. OrangeTsunami says:

CBSSports.com compares him to Tim Crowder, ironically enough….

  31. skillz_inc says:

man tar heel fans need to lay of the pipe ;) jk ab ;)

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

Yea OT I saw that. But I like what im hearing of him being JPP after a lot of coaching a lot better lol.

  33. skillz_inc says:

Well i gotta give it to AB he is good for about one good dream a day ;)

  34. alaskanbronco06 says:

This ISNT what im saying. I am hearing this from a good few of other people saying it. What little I have watched of him he does have that potential. BUT its going to take a lot of coaching to get him there.

  35. OrangeTsunami says:

Winn, Burfict, or Polk would make me happy!

  36. skillz_inc says:

WILL NEVER HAPPEN GET IT GOT IT GOOD ;) LOL I LOVE MESSING WITH YOU AB ALLIN FUN BRO

  37. OrangeTsunami says:

I hope so. I’ve read some positive things on him as well so we’ll. He’s big, has long arms, and is quick for his size, so that’s very good

  38. alaskanbronco06 says:

Maybe it wont. But when I am hearing some of the experts saying he has that kind of potential that makes me happy. Cause if the coaching staff can have him reach that we will have a very dominant group of pass rushers.

  39. OrangeTsunami says:

    *we’ll see

  40. Louisianabroncofan says:

i’m in the ‘will never happen’ camp. pretty decent pick tho

  41. OrangeTsunami says:

I do like that he is 6’5″, we need a bigger pass rusher

  42. alaskanbronco06 says:

Again not saying it will happen. I am saying that some experts have said that hes has the POTENTIAL to be. But it will take a lot of coaching to get him there.

Can never say never. Many said Brady would never make it. Just saying.

  43. OrangeTsunami says:

    6 more picks away……..

  44. skillz_inc says:

    I have potential too ;)

  45. skillz_inc says:

why do u always use brady as an example can u give me 20 others of the top of your head ?

  46. OrangeTsunami says:

I for one won’t say never, b/c you truly never know. I hope he does become a draft surprise for us, and that’s good to hear that there is some positive news out there on him

  47. skillz_inc says:

his chances are zero to none he may be an ok rotational guy but that is it imho

  48. Bronco_Turtle says:

    **** NEW BLOG ****

  49. alaskanbronco06 says:

TD? Many said he would never make it. Welker many said he would never make it. Dumervill many said he would never make it cause his size. Many said Foster wouldnt make it. Harrison was said to never make it. Thats just off the top of my head.

You can never say they will never get there or do it. Jackson has the potential to be a JPP like DE. If he makes it or not is on the coaching staff to coach him up and him to learn and accept their coaching. I wont say he will wont say he wont. But the potential is there.
