Blake: From Virtual to Reality

April 28th, 2012 - 11:42am by Kenny Legan

Philip Blake didn’t grow up with football.

Being from Canada, Blake didn’t have very many football resources. However, his mother came home from a trip to New York with a present that would change his life.

The John Madden video game.

“I started playing it,” Blake — who couldn’t remember if it was Madden ’98 or ’99 — said in a conference call. “From then on I fell in love with the game.”

From there, Blake furthered his game at Baylor, where he learned from current Broncos center J.D. Walton.

“J.D. Walton is a real good guy,” Blake said. “When I made the move to center he gave me a few tips. I’ve played with him, and I’ll learn from him again, so I know that’s a great experience.”

Blake said he could play guard or center, and has experience playing both positions. He can also squat an hefty 635 pounds.

“Yes, sir,” Blake said. “All the way down and all the way up.”

I know AB I know haha just reminding you lol

  2. Bronco_Turtle says:

Skillz! I wasn’t bashing either… just ‘called it like I saw it’ (I believe that was the battle cry from days of yore)

It hurt me to literally gift Hightower to the Pats… I mean REALLY? that deserves a big Ol ‘C’MON JOHN’….

  3. alaskanbronco06 says:

There are still guys I like but Coale has been my sleeper since before the combine. He would have been amazing in Denver as the Slot WR.

  4. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Whats shaking Turtle. Haven’t really been paying attention to the draft or talking about it. Since how the first round went down, I just pretty much ignored the draft all together and figured I will find out who we got later. Im not a big fan of the FO most of the time anyway but until they steer us wrong I guess ill just convert to a fan with blind faith lol. TRB

  5. Bronco_Turtle says:

maybe that was the ‘fee’ for Belicheat giving Elway pointers on how to Skirt league rules… could be

  6. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Here you go BT

    C’MON JOHN! ;)

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

Well said TRB… I missed all day yesterday working, and like you, after the first round the air kind of went out of my sails…

  8. jsizzla says:

Bengals are killing with their picks too.

  9. Bronco_Turtle says:

Score AB… 10 points for you bud!!!

  10. alaskanbronco06 says:

Danny Trevathan and Burfict are two LBs i really like. I now HOPE we can get one of those two.

  11. royalt19 says:

alaska-who got LB Travis Lewis? I just got off work.

  12. skillz_inc says:

ya turtle i thought forsure that was gonna be our pick at 25 then at 31 i thought well maybe doug martin but nooom lol we get wolfe and although i like the pick i think we could have got either hightower or martin then got wolfe with the 57th pick

  13. skillz_inc says:

and the qb in the 3rd round

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

Royalt Sorry I got them confused. It was Ronnell Lewis that went not Travis. Hes still out there I believe.

  15. royalt19 says:

H3LL YEAH!!! If we still have a chance to get Travis then let do it!

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

Audie Cole and Acho are also two LBs I like. I hope we can get at least one of Trevathan Burfict Cole or Acho. Maybe as UDFA for 1 or 2 of them?

  17. royalt19 says:

    When are our remaining picks??

  18. alaskanbronco06 says:

WRs Streeter and Criner are still available. Same with Jones from UNC and Jones from Cal. Maze also from Bama

FO please get at least one of them at 188 if not and they are UDFAs please target them then.

  19. alaskanbronco06 says:

    royalt 188. Thats it.

  20. skillz_inc says:

    pick

  21. jsizzla says:

I like the wolff pick but no 1st rounder bummed me along with osweiler where we took him and losing out on Lavonte David among other obvious talents. I always think we take too many unknowns instead of obvious board players.

  22. royalt19 says:

Wow so I guess no more trades this year.

  23. Louisianabroncofan says:

ya skillz thats dead on. the better scenario for us woulda been hightower in the 1st, wolfe in the 2nd, and osweiller in the 3rd. we missed on an elite player to get a few maybes. no idea whats in the mind of our fo this draft. and thinking back, trb is right, last years draft really hasnt been all that great. early for that tho.

  24. skillz_inc says:

    there goes rainey

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

The whole BPA and impact players to help now I gotta question now along with 4-5 starters.

  26. skillz_inc says:

i was never big on him like some and i am a huge gator fan just didn’t compete well against good competition

  27. jsizzla says:

    There goes Ryan Miller AB.

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

And there goes Miller to the Browns.

  29. skillz_inc says:

the guard from the buffs goes to where college players careers die Cleveland ;)

  30. SWBronco says:

Watch Kellen Moore go to New Orleans (I’m pulling for him to end up there learning from Brees who he reminds me of a lot)

  31. oldsouthstander says:

Several bloggers have tried to find an appropriate nickname for our (hopefully) future starting QB. It’s simple, if he’s good, “The wizard of Os”, if he stinks up the place, “BO”.
Broncos picks sure have been quite different than expected. In John we trust?

  32. eternalorangeandblue says:

I could see what they are trying to do if they are drafting situational players last and this this year to bolster depth then by next years draft take proven talent to be your starters

  33. jsizzla says:

That’s the big thing with me is that I look at some names we could’ve had and I have to scratch my head.

  34. eternalorangeandblue says:

    hope thats the case

  35. Louisianabroncofan says:

i guess it could be worse. could have the seahawks draft…

  36. skillz_inc says:

i like the name BRONCO BROCK for oswieler ;)

  37. skillz_inc says:

    very true lbf

  38. SWBronco says:

GAH New Orleans! pick up Kellen Moore! lol

  39. royalt19 says:

alaska-Do you think Jackson will play DE or DT this year?

  40. jsizzla says:

What’s funny is the teams the experts have said had the best draft just took obvious choices at team needs the same as any couch coach like any of us would choose.

  41. jsizzla says:

Are guys like Nate Irving and Mike Mohammed considered busts at this point or do they get one more year to prove themselves?

  42. Louisianabroncofan says:

malik jackson is a defensive end for sure. not a d tackle. it seems like he may actuallly turn out to be pretty good. if he fixes a few things, particularly getting too high. got the physical skills for sure.

  43. skillz_inc says:

    1 more year

  44. broncosmex says:

Is Tommy Streeter still out there? I like him for our next pick.

  45. SWBronco says:

jsizzla, I don’t think you can call Irving or Mohammed anything yet, they didn’t really play at all last year

  46. jsizzla says:

I realize they were mid to late round picks but how many of those guys actually pan out down the road? I mean Doom was a 4th and how many years before he started?

  47. Louisianabroncofan says:

nate irving was kinda the same story as our pick bolden. was hurt and missed their last year and would have been picked much higher if not for the injury. i havent seen anything from irving to indicate he’ll do anything great anytime soon, but i wanna give last years draft class more time considering they had no training until right before the season started due to the lockout and then they were pushed aside to get the people familiar with what was going on ready for the season.

  48. SWBronco says:

Well I think the lockout lengthens their time frame

  49. jsizzla says:

We should have laid off Osweiler and taken Moore with our last pick. Then we could’ve had jenkins, david or Reyes.

  50. skillz_inc says:

packers got a good linebacker in manning
and the bengals took a flier on illoka
