Bears vs. Broncos – Second Half Live Blog

August 30th, 2009 - 7:58pm by Chris Gentilviso

Q3 – 15:00: Bears receive the kick to start the second half. From one yard deep in the end zone, Wolfe takes it out to the 20-yard line before being stopped by Spencer Larsen. Bears long snapper Darrell McClover is called for holding, backing his team up to their own 6-yard line.

Q3 – 14:36: Caleb Hanie in at quarterback for the Bears. His first pass is good but for no gain to Aromashodu. Kevin Joens carries for one yard, before being stopped by Andre’ Goodman. Facing a 3rd and 5, the Bears run with Wolfe, but D.J. Williams and Kenny Peterson combine to stop him just short of the marker. Brad Maynard is in to punt.

Q3 – 12:37: Alphonso Smith takes the punt for a 1-yard return to his own 37-yard line. Tom Brandstater will start the second half at quarterback, with the rest of the first-team offense. Eddie Royal and Chad Jackson are at wide receiver while Daniel Graham and Tony Scheffler are in at tight end. Peyton Hillis runs forward for two yards, setting up a 2nd and 8 from the 39-yard line.

Q3 – 11:52: Hillis runs forward for another pair, setting up 3rd and 6 from the Broncos 41-yard line. Out of the shotgun, Brandstater fakes to Hillis, but comes up short on the bubble screen to Royal. Colquitt is in to punt, looking to replicate his 46-yard first-half gem that pinned the Bears at their own 2-yard line.

Q3 – 11:14: Colquitt’s mission is a success. He pins the Bears at their own 1-yard line. Hanie and the Bears will start from there after the 58-yard punt. INJURY UPDATE – Josh Barrett has an injury to an upper extremity, and his return is questionable.

Q3 – 11:09: Facing pressure from Mario Haggan, Hanie is rushed in the end zone for an incomplete on first down. Jones runs up the gut for five yards, before being stopped by Ryan McBean. On 3rd and 5 from their own 6-yard line, Hanie appeared to have a first down with Brandon Rideau. But Brian Dawkins delivered a vicious hit to the backside to jar the ball loose. Maynard is in for a quick second punt of the half.

Q3 – 10:13: Maynard’s 41-yard punt gets another 10 yards tacked on after Andre’ Goodman is charged with an illegal block in the back penalty. Brandstater and the Broncos will start at their own 39-yard line.

Q3 – 10:13: Opening up in a two-tight end set, Casey Wiegmann is whistled for a false start, backing his team up to the 34-yard line. Out of the I-formation, Correll Buckhalter erases the pre-snap miscue, bursting forward off a pitch out for 21 yards behind a big block from Peyton Hillis – 1st and 10 Broncos at the Bears 45-yard line.

Q3 – 9:15: In a mirror image, Hillis follows a big block from Daniel Graham, rumbling 17 yards down the right side for another first down. Buckhalter takes the carry from the 28, picking up four yards up the gut on first down. Ryan Clady is whistled for holding on the next play, backing the Broncos up into a 2nd and 16 from their own 34-yard line.

Q3 – 7:55: With four wide on his side, Brandstater finds Graham open in the flat. He is aided by a roughing the passer call on Bears lineman Alex Brown, pushing the gain to 18 yards. The result is a first and 10 for the Broncos from their own 16-yard line.

Q3 – 7:31: Brandstater rolls right on first down, but fires short for Royal. Buckhalter takes the pitch right on second down, but finds little running room in the presence of Lance Briggs. After the one yard loss, Brandstater finds comfort in the shotgun, slinging a ball 16 yards to Brandon Lloyd at the edge of the goal line. First and goal Broncos from the 1-yard line.

Q3 – 5:55: Hillis looks to punch it in, but Brian Urlacher stops him. Hillis recovers on the next play, finding the end zone from two yards out. Prater’s extra point is good: Bears 17, Broncos 10.

Q3 – 5:21: Prater helps the Broncos’ field position game with a touchback. Hanie and the Bears start from their own 20-yard line, but are backed up immediately by a false start penalty on Kevin Shaffer. Wolfe gets back the five yards, and Hanie completes to Rideau for one yard, setting up 3rd and 6 from the Bears’ own 24-yard line. Alphonso Smith wins the 1-on-1 battle with Derek Kinder, breaking up the pass, and forcing another Maynard punt.

Q3 – 4:05: Smith follows up his sound play on defense with another strong effort on special teams. He returns Maynard’s punt for 16 yards, setting the Broncos up with favorable field position at their own 44-yard line.

Q3 – 3:54: In I-form behind Hillis, Buckhalter runs out of room and is stopped for no gain. Brandstater’s pass to Royal sails off the hands of Royal and into the hands of Bears linebacker Marcus Freeman. The Bears take over at midfield.

Q3 – 3:06: Hanie escapes the rush of Nic Clemons, fleeing the pocket for a two-yard gain out of bounds. Wolfe takes the carry on second down and picks up four before being stopped by rookie Darcel McBath. Out of the shotgun, Hanie finds Wolfe in the flat, but a quick read by rookie David Bruton keeps the Bears from moving the chains. Maynard is in to punt.

Q3 – 1:19: The veteran recovers on the high snap, settling for a 19-yard punt that puts the Broncos at their own 24-yard line.

Q3 – 1:00: Darius Walker gets his first reps of the night, stringing gains of seven and six yards to give the Broncos a first down at their own 37-yard line.

Q3 – 0:22: Brandstater closes out the third quarter on a smooth rollout to Richard Quinn. The rookie connection goes for 16 yards and puts the Broncos in Bears territory at the 46-yard line. That’s where Denver will start the fourth quarter, trailing Chicago, 17-10.

START OF THE FOURTH QUARTER-

Q4 – 15:00: Brandstater starts the fourth out of the shotgun, working a draw play with Walker for three yards. He finds Kenny McKinley in the flat for seven yards and another first down.

Q4 – 13:37: As the lone setback, Walker bursts up the gut for three yards. That run balloons by 15 yards after Bears lineman Mark Anderson is called for unnecessary roughness. The Broncos are in the red zone at the Bears 19-yard line.

Q4 – 13:11: Brandstater finds McKinley for the catch, as he maintains possession while tightrope walking the sideline. The officials call the pass incomplete, but Head Coach Josh McDaniels throws the red flag for a challenge. The Broncos have all three timeouts in their pocket. This is McDaniels’ second challenge of the game, after losing one late in the first half on a Bears touchdown pass to Matt Forte.

Q4 – 13:11(2): Referee Ed Hochuli upholds the ruling, stating that McKinley’s left foot was out of bounds. The Broncos are charged with their first timeout of the second half.

Q4 – 13:06: Walker loses the exchange with Brandstater, and the fumble is recovered by Bears defensive tackle Matt Toeaina. The red-zone opportunity is squandered, and the Bears take over at their own 16-yard line.

Q4 – 12:00: Peterson carries up the gut for seven yards. After being stopped by Clemons for no gain, Johnny Knox breaks by Smith on a deep route. Hanie puts the ball over Knox’s outside shoulder and completes the pass for 43 yards, giving the Bears a 1st and 10 at the Broncos’ 29-yard line.

Q4 – 10:49: After an incomplete pass from Hanie, Peterson rumbles 29 yards on two carries, capped by a 12-yard run off right guard for a Bears touchdown. Gould’s extra point is good: Bears 24, Broncos 10.

Q4 – 10:42: Matthew Willis returns the kickoff for 23 yards. Matt McChesney is whistled for holding, backing the Broncos up to their own 12-yard line.

Q4 – 10:31: Brandstater finds Walker on a screen pass for no gain. Out of the shotgun, Walker takes the draw up the middle, finding five yards of running room to set up a 3rd and 5 at the 17-yard line. Lining up trips right, Brandstater finds McKinley on the left side for 15 yards and a first down.

Q4 – 9:09: Working play action with Walker, Brandstater dupes the defense to find McKinley wide open down the middle of the field. The catch is good for 54 yards and sets up a 1st and 10 for the Broncos from the Bears’ 14-yard line.

Q4 – 7:26: Walker works the middle of the Bears’ defense, putting together an eight-yard run and three-yard run to set up first-and-goal from the 3-yard line.

Q4 – 6:40: Walker works off left guard but is stopped at the goal line. He runs up the middle on second down but is again stopped at the 1-yard line. Working out of the I, Walker uses a good low block from Kory Lichtensteiger to scamper into the end zone for the touchdown. Prater’s extra point is good: Bears 24, Broncos 17. Thanks to the big Brandstater-McKinley connection, the Broncos needed less than four minutes to slice the deficit back to one possession.

Q4 – 5:42: Prater’s kickoff pins Knox four yards deep in the end zone, and a strong ankle tackle from Willis puts the Bears starting at their own 10-yard line.

Q4 – 5:13: In at quarterback for the Bears is Brett Basanez and he erases the long field quickly, finding Juaquin Iglesias for a 25-yard completion and a first down.

Q4 – 4:02: A three-yard run and eight-yard run by Peterson propels the Bears to another first down at their own 46-yard line.

Q4 – 2:58: After a strong stop by Matthias Askew on first down, Basanez finds tight end Michael Gaines for a 26-yard completion over the middle of the field. Wesley Woodyard pulls him down for the stop.

Q4 – 2:01: Peterson runs downhill for five yards, putting the Bears in a 2nd and 5 at the Broncos’ 22-yard line. The two-minute warning is upon us, with the Broncos trailing, 24-17.

Q4 – 1:49: Out of the break, Peterson runs forward for eight yards. The Bears are in the red zone at the 14-yard line, and the Broncos spend their second timeout.

Q4 – 1:41: Peterson and the Bears continue to milk the clock, as he barrels forward for three yards before being stopped by Clemons. The Broncos use their final timeout, with the Bears facing 2nd and 7 from the 11-yard line.

Q4 – 1:30: Larsen and Chris Baker stop Peterson for one yard, setting up third down from the 10. Clemons stops Peterson short of the marker, setting up 4th and 3 from the 7-yard line. The Bears take their first timeout, with 14 seconds remaining in the game.

Q4 – 0:10: Gould comes in to attempt a 25-yard field goal and tacks on another three points: Bears 27, Broncos 17.

Q4 – 0:00: Willis returns the kickoff to the 21-yard line. Brandstater comes in for the final play. He completes a quick out to Kenny McKinley on the final play. That will do it from Denver. The final score: Bears 27, Broncos 17. Thanks for following our blog, and visit denverbroncos.com for plenty of postgame coverage.

speaking of the guy who sang “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, did you know he hung himself like a year later? lol

  2. 07elway says:

LOL, uh wow, no I didn’t know that… that’s horrible. Totally defeats that saying, hmmm. I shouldn’t laugh but I didn’t expect someone to comment on that.

  3. kgallant46 says:

I know it’s wrong, but at least the Broncs aren’t as bad as KC. They fired their offensive coordinator today, BEFORE the season starts!

  4. DoomervilRocks92 says:

    Hey guys and gals,

I thnk that we played solid offense and defence last night. There are a few things we need to work on, but every team has that. If they didn’t, they’d be winning the Super Bowl every year.

Anyway, we need to stay positive! We will do good this year, I know it.

Does anyone have news on Orton, Royal, or Kuper’s injuries from last night?

  5. bronco-blaze says:

I said it in the pre-game that it seems like this team has something they improve every week we have seen them play. Though i was ticked off a bit last night , i re-watched the game today on NFL network and i must say, im greatly impressed with the way our defense played. I think the game would be a little different if hester didnt , once again, mess us up.

Once again i would like to say i am impressed by tom branstater **spelling prob**. I believe he did well considering what was all going on, and im very excited to see him play against az. The kid has a prettty good arm, and i feel he and Brandon lloyd **who im pulling for to be a starter* will be a great connection team, along with kenny.

  6. HomeTeam007 says:

Just a quick update……for anyone signed up for the Broncos Country Fantasy Football League. Its live draft is on for tonight at 9pm. Get ready! Not offically sponsored by the Broncos organization of course.

On the Orton injury, I am told that his finger is not broken. Good News.

  7. DoomervilRocks92 says:

If Orton didn’t brake his finger, why didn’t he come back out to even watch his team play?

  8. DoomervilRocks92 says:

    break, my bad.

  9. TheRoyalBeast says:

From what I hear, Orton is questionable for week 1 against bengals and simms is definitely out. This means either Inge Martin or Brandstater is gonna start come week one. Orton could possibly play but if he is less than stellar when healthy, imagine how bad he will be if his finger isnt 100 percent.

The way I see it, Brandstater will start, and Ill be happy to see him start. He could be better than orton (which isnt saying much) with enough repition and the confidence a starting job brings. Lets hope this is fate like with Tom Brady and Doug Flutie, that an injury gives us a star. He has a loooooooong way to go tho but im willing to give him the chance. Plus when he is in the game…we run more and thats always good especially if we have moreno by then. They will try to get him as many snaps as possible agaisnt the cardinals.

  10. DoomervilRocks92 says:

That’s going to be interesting to see if Brandstater starts, and how he does against the Bungles. I agree, Brandstater should get lots of reps vs. the Cards. I also want to see how Martin does. He might be good, you never know.

  11. cutlersucks8 says:

Guys I have a great feeling about brandstater, I think he is the next Tom Brady, I know it’s a stretch but I believe. O’Connell will be picked up by the Broncos, according to the educated guesses of Peter King and Adam Schefter, I told you!!

  12. DoomervilRocks92 says:

We don’t need more QB’s. We’re fine at that position.

  13. cutlersucks8 says:

Schefter reports that orton either has partially torn or sprained Index finger either way should be ready for week one.

  14. DoomervilRocks92 says:

    That’s always good to hear.

  15. cutlersucks8 says:

If he’s noot 100% he should not play. As an amateur QB I know that nothing lowers zip on the ball more than a hurt idex finger Kyle already has a weak arm. I believe in Brandstater, if he does not start this year I think he will start in the future. He has a live arm.

Doomervilrocks92 Orton and Simms are both injured and Martin hasn’t played for a year, We are not fine in that postion as of now.

When Andrea Kremer was talking to Cutler on the sidelines a bunch of great fans were screamin in his ear “cutler sucks, cutler sucks” That was my moment of the day. I kept shouting 8 at the end. ha ha ha. Amazing

  16. knowshon27 says:

I think tom brandstater going to play well he just needs more snaps in games. He started to play better the more he got relaxed he also has good pocket awareness. I hope he gets the starting job like flaco did in Baltimore.
    Or cassel with the patriots.

  17. DoomervilRocks92 says:

As of now, no we’re not. We don’t need anymore QB’s on the team, though. Orton will be good by game 1 or 2, and Simms will be back shortly after that. We don’t need someone like O’Connel, nothing against him.

Yea, that booing Cutler was the best. I also liked how some people dressed in baby clothes and Cutler jerseys. LOL! :)

  18. oldsouthstander says:

Not they way we all wanted the game to turn out. Hopefully Orton’s finger isn’t to badly injured. I just don’t understand those saying that he should have come back in the game. It sure looked to me like a significant cut that could have been very deep. With McDaniels “I’ve got a secret” as far as injuries, etc goes, we’ll probably never know the true extent of Ortons injury so any discussion of it is based one pure guesswork and totally futile. But to the game.

    Special teams:
Punting: C- A+ without the run back. A very interesting kicking battle developing.
    Kicking: A+ Exceptional kick coverage.

    Offense:
    Orton: B+ No mistakes.
Branstater: B- Did an excellnt job for the minimal amount of practice he’s had.
OL: D Uncharacteristic amount of OL penatlies made it impossible for Orton to get into any kindf of rythmn.
RB: C- Buchalter ineffective, Hillis not as dominating a power runner as in previous games.
WR: C+ Nothing spectacular. McKinney (?) may have made up for his previous return gaffs.

    Defense:

    Still no turnovers. Unacceptable.

    DL: C+ Still erratic.

LB: C Dumerville was only LB that played an excellent game.

Secondary: B+ Lots of almost ints. Hopefully, this will change to the real thing soon.

  19. DoomervilRocks92 says:

    knowshon27

We don’t want Brandstater to start like Cassel. We don’t want Orton and Simms out for the year (jk)

  20. charlton county bronco says:

I was quite impressed with Brandstater’s velocity and accuracy. Sure, Orton can manage a game, but it’s gonna’ get tough as the season goes on when the corners press our receivers more and more because there’s no deep threat. I’m not saying we need to air it out all the time, but we need opposing defenses to at least think we’re capable.

  21. DoomervilRocks92 says:

    charlton county bronco

I completely agree with you. We don’t need to throw the deep ball a lot, just enough so that teams will respect that we can do that.

  22. Broncosforlife80 says:

since were making predictions. 7-9 is my prediction and for ALOT of reasons i could go lower but im not probably the biggest reason is the schedule we have.

I really hope we dont finish as bad as some predict or its going to make mcdaniels look like an even BIGGER idiot by trading our first round pick next year for a second round pick which turned out to be alphonso smith, and seattle will be saying THANKS denver with a big smile on their face come draft time.

All we can hope is for chicago to completely bomb this year to get a high pick. But i wont think thatll happen were going to end up between the 22-26 range for our 1st pick in next years draft. GREAT!

    Go Broncos!!!{or should i say New england West???????????????idk??????}

  23. Broncs55 says:

    Broncosforlife80:

7-9 is a very logical guess, however if things go right and injuries dont plague us, so is 10-6! (That is on the extreme high side).

My prediction is a 10-6 season with plus or minus 1 game!

KoolAid drinkers will predict a 12+ win season and pessimistic fans will guess about 4-6 wins.

My guess is it will be on the higher side of the middle guessers.

  24. beefdirkus says:

I will be very happy if they get to 8 and 8. I look at the schedule and it looks tough. I figured with a new coach and a new system it is going to take a couple of years to rebuild.

  25. DoomervilRocks92 says:

I would be happy with 8-8, but I think they’ll go 10-6, beating the Chargers in the AFC West. Then they’ll get far in the playoffs.

  26. whitebronco#1 says:

I couldn’t watch the game yesterday, then I kept my nose out of NFL stuff all day, so I could watch the game this afternoon in NFL Network unspoiled.

I could talk of a lot of things of the game, but I really saw growing in confidence in general. That play of Hester really changed the game. But that’s no excuse, as it may happen in the regular season. Still many mistakes, quite evident… and I’m a little bit down about Clady, he had more penalties in this game than in the whole last season. But Bradstater left me with high hopes for the future.

My guess for this season is still the same I’ve been saying since the beginning… 7 – 9, which is good for the first season with new system, coaches, players and all stuff. I just hope we can get rid of the injury-curse.

    Go Broncooos!

  27. broncos20 says:

wow, that game was something else, the atmosphere was crazyyyy,,like it was important regular season game.
although its sad to see another one of our QBs go out…how in the hell did Ogunleye cut Kyle’s finger with gloves on. either his glove has dry plastic on or Orton has too soft of a skin..jks..lol..

Mr. Oldsouthstander, i agree with most of your grades, especially of the OL, very uncharactersitic of them.

I was so stoked to see Dawkins running out in Bronco Orange. The hasn’t lost it. Hands down, he laid the best hits in the game..and if anyone’s missed his post-game interview, ya’ll should hear it. The guy knows it all.

Last but not least, Brandstater is terrific. Hope He doesnt get injured in against Arizona..

    Go Broncos

  28. S.D.Bronco30 says:

anyone know what home game they are wearing their old uniforms for? I cant remember.

  29. broncofan96 says:

    the pats game

  30. florio's_mom says:

Im telling you guys. The ugly jerseys will help us!!!!!

  31. florio's_mom says:

I think we are wearing them for the SD game too.

  32. StadiumStampeed says:

I like the idea of Marshal for Crabtree. Sounds good to me so we can move on as a unit. Getting tried of the MEDIA SMOG, pretty sure everyone else is too.

  33. FTR says:

If Orton can not play due to his “upper body injury” So let be so. But stats do not lie! We are closer then some may think my friends. Some fine tuning and we are a conterder!!!

    OFFENSE:

During Denver’s last two games, QB Kyle Orton has completed 30-of-42 (71.4%) passes for 278 yards with one touchdown and one interception (87.2 rating). He is fourth in the league in completion percentage (67.2%) and sixth in passing yards (367) this preseason.
Rookie WR Kenny McKinley, a fifth-round pick from the University of South Carolina, has caught two passes of at least 50 yards this preseason. He ranks fifth in the league in receiving yards (165) while placing ninth in the NFL in combined yards (274).
    DEFENSE:

Against the Bears last week, the Broncos forced seven three-and-outs, including on all four Chicago possessions to open the second half.
ILB D.J. Williams leads Denver in tackles (16) and is one of three Broncos linebackers with at least 12 defensive stops this preseason.
Denver is eighth in the league in total defense, giving up an average of 294.3 yards per game.
    SPECIAL TEAMS:

The Broncos lead the NFL in kickoff coverage (14.0 yds., 8-112) through three preseason games.
P Brett Kern is third in the league in gross punting average (47.5 yds.). Rookie P Britton Colquitt, a college free agent from the University of Tennessee, leads all NFL rookies in net punting average (40.3 yds.).

  34. FTR says:

    StadiumStampeed
Humm. Let me think a diva for a diva. Nope I say keep BM!! Matter of fact I think the whole draft $ percentage on where you are drafted is BS. Produce before being paid like everybody else!! NFL will fix this or we will not have a season come 2010!
Loved seeing the raiders burned by 45 evean if it was preseason!!

  35. peytonoverthehillis22 says:

Hey everybody! Long time follower first time posting.

Does anybody know any word on the cuts that were supposed to happen today?

  36. oldsouthstander says:

I don’t know about anybody else, but I sure hope that BM watched and, most important of all, LISTENED to what every single person said about his conduct. To a man they said that he needed to get his act together and that someone near him needed to set him straight. BM. Were you or anyone close to you paying attention? We’ll know in a week.

  37. ShannyGone? says:

we are gonna suck anyways, so why not take a chance with brandstater? kid has a WAY stornger arm than bubble cannon orton. and if he does bad, it wont make a difference cuz a 5-11 record was expected anyways. maybe he becomes the next tom brady? a diamond in the rough found in the 6th round.

  38. TheRoyalBeast says:

Brandon Marshall for crabtree? Are you effing kidding me. Trade a proven “Diva” for a unproven “Diva”. Hell to the effing no. With the kind of money crabtree wants, they might as well have signed marshall to the better contract he asked for and deserves.

This is so unreasonable, It makes me laugh. I wont even entertain the notion. Even if they threw in alex smith…who wants that bust? Not I. McD says the end goal is for Marshall to remain a Bronco. While his track record for telling the truth about such situations isnt stellar. I would like to believe him because trading Marshall at this point makes no sense.

Ps: Start Brandstater. More reps and the confidence a starting job brings is all the kid needs. He has been with us from day one. He knows the playbook, been through camp, and has some natural talent. Only reason he is behind is cuz Orton and Simms sucked up all reps.

The Season is ours for the taking
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  39. canesnick says:

FTR…great stats. I was thinking we didn’t look as bad as people say, but you really put some numbers to it. To add to you stats check this one out: this preseason so far while everyone is deifying Cutler and killing Orton, here it is, the numbers don’t lie:

    Cutler 28-44 (64%), 329yds, 2TDs, 1INT
    Orton 39-58 (67%), 367yds, 1TD, 4INTs

I know that stats are stats, but at the same time let’s for a second give Orton slack on 3INTs from 1st game, new offense, new receivers, it was bound to happen. If you take those away, man those stats look pretty dang similar to me!! And…Orton played without his best two offensive weapons, Marshall and Moreno!!! Cheer up fans!!!

Another one to think about while everyone’s going into panic mode about the 0-3 preseason:

2008 Lions: 4-0 in preseason, 0-16 regular season
2007 Pats: 0-4 in preseason, 16-0 regular season

I rest my case, IT DOESN’T MATTER what happens in preseason!!! As a matter of fact i’d rather win them when they matter! And props to McD for not budging and going with his principles and his gameplan in preseason….which is treating it like more training camp!!!

    GO BRONCS!!!

  40. rkymtnhigh says:

Three things need to happen and we’ll be just fine.

    1. Stop em on third down.
    2. create turnovers on defense and be careful with the ball on offense.
    3. Get that f—er in the endzone….You can doooit!!!!

    out

  41. rkymtnhigh says:

Three things need to happen if we are going to do anything this year.

    1. create turnovers
    2. Stop em on third down
    3. Get it in the endzone.

We can be great between the 20′s but that doesn’t put points on the board does it.

We need to be alot better in the redzone.

    still hopefull though.

  42. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I think Orton will be ready for Week 1. Brandstater is our quarterback of the future and in that I rejoice because he’s got good stuff. Nevertheless, Orton is the more sure thing. I can’t understand why people bash him. He’s done nothing worthy of such things. He just won with the Bears who have no weapons. Sure, who would rather have Devin Aromashodu than Eddie Royal? Nobody, that’s who. I know the team is progressing nicely. I just hope they’re more sound on special teams in the Natti against the Bengals. I was a kicker on my high school football team and often helped my team win with good special teams plays. It’s important! GO BRONCOS!

  43. canesnick says:

Let’s not all get excited about Brandstater starting week 1. It’s obvious that the kid is talented and it’s blatantly obvious that he’s McD’s next Tom Brady. But he needs time to grow! And all the reports are that Orton will be ready for week 1, so let’s not get excited too soon. Next year is the more likely scenario for our Tom…why do you think we didn’t extend Orton?

  44. rkymtnhigh says:

If we can take care of the football (which we did for the most part).
If we can stop them on third down. ( which our first team D did at first).
If we can get it in the endzone. (which we really suck at so far).

    THEN…. we’ll be getting somewhere.

Lots of positives though. DOOM, DAWKINS, are a couple.

Not getting to excited about Brandstater but if Orton doesnt show me something Real beautiful Real soon, I see no reason we shouldnt take a wild 1 in a million shot with Brandstater.

Sure Orton “won” in chicago, But the NFL is all about what have you done for me lately and kid aint cutting it. Bad judgement, all his passes the WR does all teh work, scared to throw down field at least once a game. And him winning in Chicago had alot to do with a great defense, great field position and oh yea…A great RB like Forte. And we need to redefine win because I dont believe they made it to the playoffs with orton not to talk off winning a playoff game so

  46. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

I must say… After we got Brandstater and I YouTubed him, I thought “Wow… this guy has some potential”… But I honestly questioned his downfield throwing… After seeing that pass to MicKinnley, I now know, he can do it… and he, from what I saw, had pretty good arm strength in the short passes…

I wouldn’t be too surprised to see McD put the young rookie in at some point this season (as a starter…)

  47. ramboskithefan says:

BRONCOS PICK UP OCONNEL FROM THE PATS ON TUE!!! MCD coached him last year and he was a 3rd round draft pick of the pats…dude has game….

  48. Dynamicdave says:

I’m sorry, but reading your guys bashes on Orton is giving me a headache. BradJamesBroncoFan’s 10:49 post said it best. You guys bash when Orton did nothing wrong. He had a good game. Oh, and I’ll repeat this for the hundredth time, Orton didn’t throw down field because McD didn’t call for it! Man, watch his interview. He even says it. You guys have so much tunnel vision it’s humorous. The O line kept getting penalties but I suppose that’s Orton’s fault? His finger got cut, but I suppose you blame him for the injury, too? You guys are acting like a pack of rabid wolves. Panicking in preseason. Running around with pitchforks and torches, calling for Orton’s head and Brandstater to start…. Give me a break. The kid is not ready. He is green but learning. Orton is the guy. Stop turning on him for no reason.

  49. Dynamicdave says:

canesnick, the Pats were 2-2 in preseason in 2007. They lost the 1st two than won the 2nd two and went on to go 16-0 in regular season. In 2008 they went 0-4 in preseason with Brady, than 11-5 with Cassel.

  50. Dynamicdave says:

Oh, for those who think that a 7-9 season is acceptable, uh uh. If I wanted a 7-9 season, I’d bring Shanny back. Anything less then .500 would be a disappointment.
