Beal to Injured Reserve

August 31st, 2012 - 3:55pm by Gray Caldwell

On Friday, as the team trims its roster to 53 players, the Broncos placed defensive end Jeremy Beal on injured reserve.

Beal suffered a left knee injury in Thursday night’s preseason win against the Arizona Cardinals.

A seventh-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Beal spent last season on the team’s practice squad.

During the preseason, Beal was making his presence felt along the defensive line as he notched five tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and a pass defensed.

The University of Oklahoma product is the fifth player the Broncos have placed on injured reserve in 2012, joining fellow defensive end Jason Hunter, running back Mario Fannin and wide receivers D’Andre Goodwin and Tyler Grisham.

The club’s roster now stands at 74 players, meaning there are still 21 transactions that must be completed by 7 p.m. MDT this evening to get to the NFL-mandated limit of 53 players.

Beal is eligible to come back correct?

  2. strandoftds82 says:

I`d rather have Hunter come back over Beal. IMO

  3. RH709 says:

Green and D.J. have suspensions and will go to the reserver list. So really only 19 cuts to be made.

  4. RH709 says:

Strand. I agree but I think Hunter’s injury will put him out for the season and then some.

  5. strandoftds82 says:

I did mention that last night RH. Good call dude! We`re on the same page. LOL

  6. strandoftds82 says:

Ya, thats a nasty injury. Beal is showing nice progress on the field. Bummer for Jeremy.

  7. alaskanbronco06 says:

I think with DJ and Green on the suspended list. That opens the way for Johnson and Thomas to make it.

  8. strandoftds82 says:

And of course eight of those cuts will go to the PS.

  9. strandoftds82 says:

We may know here in about an hour. There`s a press conference at 5:00 by the Broncos.

  10. The Dane says:

I agree strand. Hunter could be ready by December so he should be able to play in the last 3-4 games if he doesn’t get any setbacks.

  11. RH709 says:

I don’t see JJ making this team. Also, there are a few OL guys getting cut. We keep Blake and Clark as backup. Harris isn’t what he use to be (sadly).

  12. strandoftds82 says:

Hopefully we stay away from the IR bug this year. No big name players. HaHa!!

  13. RH709 says:

I wish we could keep Tony Carter but I think he gets cut and he is good enough to get picked up my another team.

  14. strandoftds82 says:

I do like JJ. He can make the PS still. He made that by 1 game. If JJ would have played 1 more game last year he couldn`t make the PS. WHEW! I really like the young man. He has a flare to him I think.

  15. RH709 says:

Strand. The new weight room, equipment and the new strength and conditioning coach should really help us this year.
I hear amazing things about this new guy.

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

Carter is good enough to be on the end of a depth chart. But we have 6 other CBs who are quit a bit better then he is.

Id watch out for JJ. Elway loves him and his ability.

  17. strandoftds82 says:

Ya, I read about him when Pat Bowlen hired him as the Broncos new conditioning coach. He monitors the players eating habits too. Kinda Bazaar.

  18. strandoftds82 says:

I heard that a week ago in that Elway thinks the world of JJ. Cool beans!!

  19. RH709 says:

I don’t see that as Bazaar, I see it as dedication to a craft. Nutrition is as much or more a part of health as excercise.

  20. alaskanbronco06 –

I don’t believe he’s eligible to come back. It’s my understanding that a player has to be “designated for return” at the time he’s placed on injured reserve. And the rule only applies during the regular season, so the player later “designated for return” would have to make the 53-man roster before being placed on injured reserve with the designation any time after 2 p.m. MDT on Sept. 4.

Here are the new IR rules as the NFL explains them: http://blog.denverbroncos.com/denverbroncos/nfl-modifies-trade-deadline-and-injured-reserve/

  21. alaskanbronco06 says:

Thanks Gray! Wasnt sure and that clears it us. So Hunter so far is the only one eligible to come back from my understanding of what ive heard.

  22. strandoftds82 says:

This guy even says too much weight lifting too much exercise can be just as bad as not enough. The Body is a strange thing to figure out. It is what it is!

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

Adam Weber has been waived. If clears waiver highly likely to return to the PS

  24. strandoftds82 says:

Thanks for the heads up Gray!

  25. strandoftds82 says:

I bet Weber does go on PS.

  26. marshisboss says:

You want to keep Tony Carter I think you are the first person I have heard say that

  27. alaskanbronco06 says:

Wayne Tribue has also been waived.

  28. RH709 says:

Carter was burned but he played hard and showed grit. He is raw. I see him as quality depth somewhere but we have other with more talent.

  29. marshisboss says:

Well if he does not make it he should make the practice squad

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

Denver players have been quiet on twitter. I wonder if the staff has asked them to keep quiet.

  31. bronco0723 says:

The cuts I am most anxious about are the rbs. I loved what I saw out of Moreno last night. He was running hard. It’s just so hard to trust he will stay healthy, but he sure looked healthy last night.

  32. strandoftds82 says:

KOA is saying the 2 cuts and one on IR so far, only three as of yet.

  33. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand thats right with what ive heard. Weber and Tribue vut and Beal to IR

  34. strandoftds82 says:

    Right on track AB.

  35. mcmcnees says:

Elway is having a presser @ 5pm MDT. We will know then.

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

Ben Garland has been released. Best case scenario is returning to the PS

  37. alaskanbronco06 says:

    The presser has been delayed.

  38. mcmcnees says:

Presser pushed back, and Ben Garland was released too

  39. marshisboss says:

where are you guys getting the info

  40. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Im getting it from Twitter.

  41. marshisboss says:

    ok cool keep me posted

  42. Royalbroncofan1 says:

KOA says JJ will most likely be on PS.

  43. strandoftds82 says:

    Hello Royal!

  44. Royalbroncofan1 says:

    What’s up strandsky !!!

  45. Royalbroncofan1 says:

KOA says Garland should clear waivers and be placed on PS.

  46. strandoftds82 says:

Just waiting. Remember the song on that old Heinz 57 commercial. ANTICIPATION! LOL

  47. mcmcnees says:

Is a Tweet a “Chirp” Do you guys think that Lance Ball will be active roster? I think he may be demoted… He didn’t have the greatest preseason.. Nothing to write home about i don’t think.

  48. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Haha – sure do strand… good one!!

  49. alaskanbronco06 says:

I am not a fan of Fumbles at all.

  50. strandoftds82 says:

Ball makes the team because of RB and ST.
