Ball, Powell Added to Practice Squad

November 3rd, 2009 - 4:46pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos on Tuesday announced several roster moves involving the practice squad.

Running back Lance Ball was added to the practice squad, and the club’s second 2008 fifth-round pick, Carlton Powell, was added to the practice squad as well.

In addition, Darius Walker was waived from the practice squad, and Everette Pedescleaux was placed on the practice squad/injured list.

Ball is a second-year player who appeared in one game for the Indianapolis Colts in 2008 as a reserve running back. He rushed 13 times for 83 yards and caught one pass for five yards in his first NFL appearance versus the Tennessee Titans. He was a three-year letterman who started 19 of 41 career games at the University of Maryland, and was originally signed by the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent before the 2008 season.

Powell is a second-year player who spent his rookie season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list after injuring his Achilles tendon in the offseason. He started 13 games in each of his final two seasons at Virginia Tech University, helping the Hokies rank no worse than fourth in the nation in both total yards per game and points per game allowed during those years. He had career highs in tackles — 39 — and sacks — 3.5 — as a senior in 2007.

If we are going to throw a bomb on the first play, we better block the pass rushers first! You guys can always give me good laughs. LOL. Lets’ not put the carriage before the horse type of thing. First play last week was probably going to be a bomb. LOL.

True-dat baylinorcrush. Our protection needs to much better this week or we won’t see good passes of any kind.

People be pulling Dilfer out the hat. Especial when they think you can have a average QB. If you remember properly! He made Stokley a household name. So much so that Peyton wanted him!! Dilfer and Stokley torched the Giants. That caught them off guard. Long passes down the field. D can get you to the Championship game, but and there is a but. The O has to win it. Bucs may be the exception. They knew the other team O to a tee. lol

Yeah everyone has been saying the Line has to blick better. We all said that. The first play was not on the line though. It was on Knowshawn!!!! He was suppose to block down instead of going out in the flat. It was one of those if no one is coming. Go to the flat. He went to early. No one is pointing that out. It was not all the lines fault!!!! Go back and look at the play. If you understand football you’ll see what I mean.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

I know that was Moreno’s assignment, yet it was the blocking scheme of the O line on that perticular play, same thing. To ask if people on this blog understand football is a bit much, maybe you should of put a LOL after that. LOL.

  5. NY_BroncoMan says:

Yeah The #1 ..Gruden really one that super bowl for the bucs since he knew everything the Raiders were doing as their coach the previous yr. Plus who wants to be a one yr wonder..the goal is to build a team that can compete yr in and yr out and to do so you need a good QB.

I think the O line will rebound. We’ve been great there for a yr and a half now and as stated by others the Ravens were in a desperate situation and just brought way more intensity and physically dominated us. We can fix that since i don’t believe our O line is a bunch of sissies. They’ll come back strong…however they have been showing weekness on short yardage plays with getting the push. we’ll see how they handle the physical Steeler rush.

Oh my bad “same page” lol On another note. I know their was a power outage. There is no excuse though for Orton being interview like he was at a police station. lol I thought they were gonna ask him ” Did you all throw the game! Come on Kyle you can tell us. We won’t tell the rest of the guys. You’ll get off easy if you work with us.” lol

  7. BeastFromEast92 says:

Orton runs the plays like he is told to do I think a lot of it was bad play and play calling as well, bad execution on both parts. We all need to realize we have great potential but we must remember we have a new coach, new offense, new defense,it will take time to put it all together, we still need to work hard and put it all together. When we do that, like the SanDiego game week after week we will be hard to beat.WE NEED TO GET GOING EARLY AND NOT FALLING BEHIND.Its hard to play good when the defense pins their ears back and comes after our QB.We’ll get better i just hope it will be soon we got some hard games comin up.GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will say now that I DO think we will win this Monday Night Football Game against the Steelers. I think we will play just like we did against the Chargers and I think we will be nothing like how we played against the Ravens. Our O-line will be much better and our offense and defense as well. I think we will win also mainly because we are home and Orton is very focused there! Also, the altitude gives the Steelers A LOT of problems and we are used to it! I just know one thing, there will probably be A LOT of steelers fans there so if you go to the game BRING THE PRESSURE AND I BETTER SEE YOU ON TV SCREAMING YOUR HEAD OFF!!! ITS BS WHENEVER YOU HAVE A HOME GAME AND HAVE PRESSURE ON YOU BECAUSE OF SOO MANY FANS FROM THE OTHER TEAM!!

    GOOO BRRROOONNNCCCOOOSSS!!

  9. G funk says:

listening to some off you make me sick it was one game ,when we where on our winning streak we heard nothing from none of you nobody had nothig to say about the play calling now we lose one because of a good Defensive team and the world has figured us out. listen you play the game with what type of personal you have. If we start throwing the ball all over the place and we strart throwing Int then people will start saying Orton a bad QB. We Know Orton isn’t that effective throwing the long ball but he great running the Offence like he has been doing. Why would you turn him into something he’s not its like turning Vick into a passing QB its just not what he is. I’m sure Mcd and the other coaches are working hard to get the O running good. I’m just saying in my opinion.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

G funk, that’s because as long as we won there was nothing for the fans who didn’t like what happened in the off-season to be complaining about, or no one would of paid any attention to them. Now the loss has open a can of worms. It started here right during the 4th quarter Sunday and will last through the week and if we lose Monday, it will be much worse next week. I’ve been keeping them from ranting too much and taking over the blog with all their complaints so I’m glad to see you out here helping out. Keep up the good fight, we can’t change their minds, but we can sure tell them to get a life. LOL.

  11. G funk says:

well said baylinorcrush. thanks for the support You can just tail the Orton haters out here. theyy just been waiting to speak there mind

  12. steveatwater5 says:

all I have to say is Darius Walker needs to be on this team release jordan and sign walker

  13. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah we lost one to a good defensive team, but we have a lot of good defensive teams left on our schedule.Nobody said throw it all over the field.I personally would like to see the offense open up a little more, the short stuff don’t always work.

  14. steveatwater5 says:

oh and Kyle Orton is the greatest QB to play in Denver lol……besides John Elway. He is a proven winner and can take us to the glory we deserve hahaha Go Broncos Go Orton and the man who made this season what it is GO Pat Bowlen Sorry Cutler you get no props lol

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

I think Orton is smarter QB than cutler was,but why have all that talent at wideout and not be able to use it?GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. steveatwater5 says:

the ravens just had our number that week one game doesn’t dictate a season lol well be fine were always best in the second half anyways

  17. brian_schneider says:

This is way off topic, and it is a little too soon to tell but I think Orton has been the 2nd best QB for the Broncos SINCE Elway. Griese will always live in his father’s shadow, “Big Mistake” Jake he was more careless with the ball than Cutler, Cutler good QB still a little careless with the ball but he may have learned that fro Plummer. Orton has only threw one INT, plays smart holding on to the ball during a sack (wish he wouldn’t get sacked), not forcing throws. You can’t blame last week on anyone except for the entire team and coaches plus the Ravens were just plain ready. Honestly people be talkin’ how it is the defense that is winning the games for us. I think it is complementary football all around. The D is playin’ well because Orton and co. don’t turn the ball over too much, the O is playin’ well because the D doesn’t let the opponent score. And the ST, well we’ve been slackin a bit last week, but Royal had two big returns and expect him to get some more. We are capable of playing good football. Hopefully we show up on Monday.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

brian, in the NFL you are always judged on your accomplishments, it’s no different with QB, for that reason my take is different than yours. Of course first there will be no argument EVER than Elway was, is and always well be the best Bronco QB, 5 super bowl appearances and 2 Championships. Second the other man to take us to our super bowl, Graig Morton, even so he played late in his career with us and had serious mobility trouble, he was greatly accurate and could orchestrate our offense flawlessly given protection. Third, Plummer who took us to an AFC championship, he was great throwing on the bootleg out of the pocket but was dreadful in the pocket, go figure… Fourth, Cutler, only because he had great natural abilities, but looks like a kid, acts like a kid, pouts like a kid, well you get the idea, never had the maturity needed to make us a winning team while he was here. As far as Griese was concerned, I wouldn’t list him on this list anywhere, he was one of the worse clutch player I have ever seen, anytime the game was on the line he would freeze, so it didn’t matter that he could make 15 completions in a row, he would throw it all away as soon as the game was on the line. Deberg and Frerotte were arguably better than Griese, but not good enough to be mentioned with our better QB’s. Steve Ramsey was also decent, but that’s even before Morton. As far as Orton is concerned, no way you can evaluate him in 7 games played in the first half of a season. This is when the going is easy. Hopefully everyone here knows the kind of football that counts is the one you play in November and December, not the one you play in September and October. He hasn’t taken us anywhere yet, no division title, no playoffs, so there is no way to put a judgement on him at this point. It would be ludicrous. I need to see how he handles himself first in a must win game, then in a playoff game and so on. IMO.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

I know you talked about since Elway, but I looked at it since I first started being a fan. Now that I mentioned the need to play well in November and December, it brought to my attention the fact that we are starting that stretch 0-1…

  20. brian_schneider says:

    Good point baylinorcrush.

WHAT NO BUBBY BRISTER!!! he could be 5th on that list. He save the SB season. When Elway got hurt and left for four or five games. That’s why us long time fans don’t see the problem with the O. When you givin the keys to a Ferari. You can’t dive it like a Saab! Our O is built for highway miles not city. Treat the D like yellow lights. Go threw them! Don’t stop like it’s red. All this stop and start is missing up our trans. lol Bubby drove it like a Ferari he got the keys to. Orton and McD needs to do the same!! That’s all we are saying.

People were saying things during the win streak. Comments like “we need to pick up the O.” When we beat the Pats. I remember poeple were saying. “We can’t win like that every week. Teams are gonna pick up on it.” I guess people read and react to what they want to. lol Now that our warning came true for one game. We don’t wanna have it happen for the next. Now we gotta be scorned Cutler fans. lol Ya’ll kill me with that. If someone speaks cridical of the team. We pissed off Shanny or Cutler fans. If you speak good about everything. You’re the real fans. lol That’s if we let you tell it!

  22. UUB says:

I like that analegy! Treatong a stick like a automatic. lol Just tryna grind everything out. Not just lettin it flow like it should. Now if Bubby could do it. Orton can. Knowshawn and Buckhalter are not TD though. See when he(Bubby) really got the keys. We got so decimated by injuries we could not recover from.

That is back then though. So we can learn from history. Not to make mistake of holding back anything. Play the season like it’s your last. In this game. It very well could be!!! To the one of the top RB dead or a live. That’s only on 4 full seasons.!!!! The Gale Sayers of generaion x’s time. Terrel Davis!!! Play the game like it’s your last!!!

  23. baylinorcrush says:

The #1, you have one gear only, the one were the O is not up to your ferrari standards because of Orton and McD, WE GOT IT, WE GET IT, WE’RE NOT DEAF! We like to talk about a variety of subjects, like how we need a way better running game if we want to go anywhere in December regardless if the fancy ferrari is purring or not. Talking about needed improvements on ST in coverage and Kicking game, Prater and Berger both. Things not only channeled against Orton and McD. That’s all that comes out of you, how do you want people to take you seriously, we know what you say is partly correct, we are just sick to death that an Orton/McD vendetta is the only thing we have to look forward to when we see your handle at the top of a post. You need to lighten up and open your horizon. You’ll be surprised how much impact that could have on your outlook on the Broncos, and probably your life in general.

  24. The #1 says:

LOL “Lighten up” Why should I?? I’m not mad at all. Never been in no way. You can speak about the run game. I have not seen a team yet that can run good with 8-9 in the box. Berger is new! So if he is a problem. Why did we get him?? He did what they wanted him to do. He is not a boom punter as far as gross yardage. They brought him here for net yardage. To get the ball high in the air. To limit returns. He did that. If they wanted distance should have kept Kern. That’s his thing. Berger never been a distance guy. Do your homework. Prater only kicks touch backs in Mile High. Kickoff coverage is not a big problem. Just like you have said” It’s just one game. Now everyone wanna criticize.” Only one kickoff went for a TD. They have been good since then. Can’t count the PR. That’s why they let Kern go. They said it was him.

We the one who you’ve said need to look at things differently. Were the one that said at the beginning.” This is not a rebuilding year. If Miami, Atlanta, and Arizona can do it. Why can’t we?? That’s go to the playoffs this yr!! So what we have a new coach. We have piece in place. We just said in the D can be in the top 15. We’ll be good. All other including you! This is a rebuilding year. We shouldn’t expect anything this yr. Someone I think it was either Greatness or Deify said” By the Chargers game we should be at least 4-1″ This was in the preseason. Arizona game!! You all didn’t see this coming. We are tryna keep it going. We believed while other gave up on it. You were part of the 8-8 crowd that said ” I’m a fan but I live in the real world. Now what other said was suppose to happen on this site. Has actually happened we want things to keep going.
