After a sterling performance against the Cowboys, Champ Bailey is set to receive a conference honor.
The NFL informed the Broncos on Tuesday that Bailey will be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for games played during Week 4 (Oct. 4-5).
This marks the first time that Bailey has received such an award in his six seasons with Denver. He was twice named NFC Defensive Player of the Week as a member of the Washington Redskins (Week 6 in 1999 and Week 4 in 2003).
Bailey had a season-high eight tackles, a game-high four passes defended and his first interception of 2009 in the 17-10 victory over the Cowboys. Those four pass breakups tied for the highest single-game total in the NFL this season.
A pair of Bailey’s pass breakups came at key times — the final plays of the game, halting Dallas on third- and fourth-and-goal from the Denver 2-yard line to preserve the Broncos victory. His interception also came at a crucial point in the first half, halting a Cowboys drive at the Denver 3-yard line.
Bailey is the first Bronco to receive an AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor since Elvis Dumervil did in Week 14 of the 2007 season. His selection makes him the 21st Bronco to receive the award since its initiation by the NFL during the 1984 season.

Well deserved and congrats to champ. But this makes me think who did better in week two than doom? Really was there a player that had more than four sacks in week two yet I don’t think doom was named defesive player of the week. Just a thought. Everyone thought it was crazy that we would have a great defense and thought that doom’s four sacks was a mistake.

And Doom did atleast get some recognition… On NFL Total Access they went through who they think deserved to “____ Player of the 1st quarter” and Warren Sapp said Doom for “Deffensive Player of the 1st quarter”!

This is awesome news… no one deserves it more than Champ. Well, actually the whole D deserves a few honors cuz they ended that game as a team but Champ is very deserving of this. At least a few players on the team are getting respect and recognized for their performances.

Bailey still has it. He misses the challenges. Most humble CB I’ve ever seen. His actions apparently speak louder than words. In fact, thats what best describes our defense this year. No need to fire back at critics. Just getting it done on the field..

Just a little commentabout the look of the main page of this website. But at least on my computer the color has change for the main page and it looks more like a Cleveland Brown website then a Denver Bronco website. Don’t know if it looks like that for anyone else or if it is just my computer but I sure would vote for it to return to the original look. Not like its a big deal though. Not even sure why I am bothering to mention it.
Anyways if the Broncos beat the Patriots which I believe they will then all those nonbelievers will have to acknowlege that Denver is better then they thought. Dang at the start of the year my brother in-law who is a Bronco fan annoounced Denver would not win more than 5 games and here we are sitting 4-0.
Ha just realized that this is the week we will be in that throwback jersey. Maybe thats why there is brown on the main page of the website. Well it will be interesting to see the Broncos in that yellow (or gold) and brown uniform. I have never cheered for a football team that was not wearing orange. Those striped socks should be burned after the game the way they did all those years ago.
This is a huge week for the: fans, team, coaches, critics, sports analysist, league. This is the week when everyone finds out if the Broncos are for real, with the exception of the team and the fans, we already know that they are for real.
I’m sure both teams are preparing hard for this one. I think that it will be close to the score of the Dallas game. I’m looking for a very defensive game. We both have offenses that can explode, but I think that it will be a very close game. If you think about it we are kind of a younger, faster, better Patriots team. However, they have Billicheat who still has a crazy mastermind for the game. In my opinion it could come down to the wire just as last week.
Congrats Champ, now no one will throw at him. You think Romo got a big head, cuz he challenged Champ? I mean do you think that he thought that what people say of Champ of being a shutdown corner was a lie? C’mon Champ is the best, I still say he is the top corner in the league.

Champ!!!! Congrats man!!! Here is a funny story. I told my wife last year for my birthday that I wanted a Broncos Jersey. She dosent know anything about the team. She decided to pick Champs jersey because our oldest daughters name is Bailey and she was born on March 24th. I couldn’t have been happier with her selection. And whats even more I had a problem remembering the day that my daughter was actually born on. It was the 25th of march for me because I was in Japan with my strike group. Someday I want to get her one of those kids pink #24 Bailey jersey’s. It would be great to get Champ to sign it. Heres to dreamin!!!!
After we beat the Patriots, whoever says we still aren’t for real, they just flat out hate the Broncos. It will happen, I guarantee.
I really want to see Hillis more envolved with the offense. he’s such a good blocker, runner, and reciever. Why don’t we use him more?

Ok guys, I have been waiting to see someone break down this upcoming game against the pats to see if I agree with them but haven’t seen anything yet so I figured I would break down the game and provide an analysis of what I think is going to happen!!
1. We are the 4th best rushing team in the NFL. You have to look at that Buck will most likely be out of the game against the Pats but we have Moreno. Moreno will be able to provide all of the running and I hope they give Hillis redemption and give him some runs as well! Expect to see Moreno’s first 100 yard rushing game this Sunday!
2. I know our offense has been questionable at times, but expect Marshall to be getting A LOT more involved in the game this week. They will work on Orton’s accuracy this week and i think he will complete a lot of passes this week. They will be going up against a pretty weak defense and I think they will do great.
3. We have the BEST defense in the league. The Pats do have a good offense, but remember, this is an offense that barely came but and beat the terrible Bills and that should’ve lost to the Ravens! Lets face it, the Pats should be 1-3 right now. The only team that they really beat was Atlanta.
4. Stopping their run and passing game shouldn’t be a problem. We have stopped Barber, Lewis, Benson, and McFadden, all great runners in the league and Sammy Morris, Fred Taylor, Kevin Faulk do not even compare to those guys! With their passing game, last week they mainly hit Moss and Welker. They hit Ben Watson a couple of times but not too much. We have Bailey that will be on Moss and have Goodman, Hill, or Dawkins to cover Welker. Our defense should definitely provide GREAT coverage against the Pats.
5. The pass rush. Doom is getting sacks now in his last three games. The Pats offensive line have done pretty good but Brady did get sacked last week and fumbled the ball and gave up a touchdown. Doom and the boys should be getting through the line with a bit of ease considering that we tore apart Dallas’s offensive line. I expect around 3-4 sacks this week and seeing Doom have 2.
6. Now the only thing that worries me. You have to ask yourself, do we have the better advantage of having Mcdaniels or do they have the better advantage with having Belichek. Both of these coaches are going to change up a couple things since they know each other really good and know what the other likes to do.
Overall, I think our boys will win 17-14 against the Pats. The Pats have gotten too lucky at beating people and this will be a game that they will not be getting lucky with!

Broncosfreak30, FYI IMO you would get better reaction to your post if it was posted on a single blog, like the latter. Posting it on 4 different blogs is a bit overpowering, just a friendly suggestion… Each blog takes a different direction, that’s the beauty of it, if one doesn’t do anything for me, I just go to another, when you reroute everybody in the same direction, or attempt to, on the last 4 blogs, it kind of has a dead end effect to the flow.
Anyway, to your question of what I think, it’s too early in the week for me to look at my crystal ball, I need more reports coming in during the week then I can have a little more knowledge to speak about what I think will happen Sunday. I never do it before Friday, usually on Saturday.

They’re defense #7. Nothing weak there. Where do you say their D is weak?
If you say they were lucky for winning vs. the Bills and shouldn’t have won vs. Baltimore… remember what people say about or wins vs. Cowboys (lucky) and Bengals (shouldn’t have). Remember that a W is a W, no matter how pretty or ugly you get it. They’re 3-1 and that’s the team we’re facing.
Their RBs aren’t stars, agreed, but they are still great players. And last week against the Ravens, Brady spread the ball to 9 different receivers (same thing as we do), including TEs, RBs, not just a couple of WRs. It will be a real challenge for our D, just because Brady is a great game manager and a great passer.
I agree with your other points. And even when I don’t like to predict scores, I’m expecting something very close like your prediction. But I hope we’re both wrong and the W come clear and easily.

Well there wont be any other reports! The only report would be about buckhalter being injured and our for a week or two. Everyone saw that it wasn’t a kind of injury to where he sits out the rest of the game and return the next game on Sunday! So you should already have all of your “reports”.

Look at how many points they allowed against buffalo. And I hate to tell you my friend, haha and clip your wings, but the pats D is ranked 10th and have allowed 71 points compared to our 26. So I would say, compared to us, thats pretty weak.
The pats are also 10th in total yards allowed which is 1219 and ours is 1033. They are 12th with 381 yards allowed rushing compared to our 309. They are 9th with 838 allowed passing yards compared to our 724. Dont know where you got your stats.
I don’t get right the ranks… it’s just big BS. How can a 4-0 team be below 3-1 or 2-1 teams??
It’s like denying the 1st place in a car race to a pilot that crossed 1st the line just because the pilot who crossed at 5th was the champion the last 2 years and he “deserves” to be ahead.
This is a NEW season!! You shouldn’t rank teams according to old stats or past seasons, or if a team “deserves to be high” or not. “Deserving” doesn’t get Ws, which is what counts. Ws and Ls, fact, the numbers don’t lie. If so, how can the Chargers be above if we have 2 SB wins and they 0 (ZERO)? Or why the Steelers aren’t always 1st in ranks if they have won the most SBs??
Each season is a new monster (see Miami and Arizona last year). Every team is where it deserves according to what they do or don’t do IN THAT SEASON. Teams don’t program schedules or control if their opponents are weak or strong, or lucky or injured, well coached or a disgrace. They have to play each game and do their job.

I also thought this was very interesting. The Pats have had 3 home games and 1 away game. This will be their second away game and one of the most scariest and loudest places to go in to. Their away game was at Falcons and I went there last year to see our boys beat them and there wasnt much pressure at all from their fans. Plus it is a dome! The pats are TENTH in total points allowed and that says what rank they are! And the effort against the Bills. Yea, I know that we were closer to losing the game against the Bengals but we only gave them 7 points. The pats gave buffalo like 20 some if i am not mistakin!

BFreak, first post ” I think our boys will win 17-14 against the Pats”, then a few posts later “I think we will hopefully win by at least a touchdown”. That’s why I rather wait to make my prediction, so I don’t end up all over the gamut.
No one wants to give us respect..fine. We don’t need no stinkin’ respect. We’ve done pretty darn good without any. The rankings and stuff..whatever. It doesn’t matter what they rank us, we need to go out there and execute and play the way we’ve been playing and improve upon the things that need improving. I’m not saying throw the rankings out and I’m not saying live and die by the rankings. They are there, statistics will always be there, but that doesn’t mean that’s the way it will happen. Just cuz we’re ranked better than them doesn’t mean anything, same, just cuz they’re ranked below us doesn’t mean anything.
We need to worry about us and what we’re doing, not the rankings, they won’t win us the game. We need to go out there and dominate.

No one here is argueing! Were all a Broncos family and support one another and our team. But no, I do stand up for when I am right, and if you go to ESPN, the Pats are TENTH in TOTAL POINTS allowed with defense!! That is what says where your defense is ranked! But it doesn’t matter, I JUST KNOW DOOM IS GOING TO GET A VERY PRETTY SKIRT DIRTY IN THE MUD COME SUNDAY AT MILE HIGH!!
He played great and showed why he is the best corner in the game right now. We’ll see if he’s tested again. We have another corner on the other side of the defense in Goodman, a great veteran who can handle the load as well. We have one of the best defensive backfields in the league, and now the front 7 is bullying offenses again, this defense makes me grin. Can’t wait to see what this next challenge is going to bring out of our team.
