Friday marks the final full day of preparation for Monday’s upcoming contest against the New England Patriots.
It also marks the day that Champ Bailey typically takes time to speak at the media from his locker, and today was no exception. Like his counterpart Dre’ Bly, Bailey finds it unusual to be preparing for a Patriots squad without Tom Brady.
“I mean it is different because Brady is such a big time quarterback,” Bailey said.

But the star matchup between Bailey and Patriots’ wide receiver Randy Moss will happen no matter what. Players always like to go up against the very best competition, and in Monday night’s game, two of the best at their respective positions will face off on national television.
Bailey has been to eight Pro Bowls in 10 seasons. He leads all cornerbacks with 42 interceptions since his rookie season of 1999.
Moss has been to six Pro Bowls in his 11 seasons. He holds the NFL record for touchdown receptions in a single season with 23, which he set last year.
This is clearly a marquee matchup that fans should love watching, and Bailey’s pretty excited for it too. When asked if he wanted to cover Moss for the entire game, a typically subdued Bailey had a pretty simple reply.
“I wouldn’t mind,” Bailey said. “That would be a good battle. I know a lot of people like to see stuff like that.”
Over the course of their respective careers, the two have gone up against each other a number of times. Add them all up, and Bailey feels like he has been successful against the Patriots’ top receiver.
“They have went well for me,” Bailey said. “Unfortunately for him he hasn’t had a good quarterback to throw him the ball (in previous years). I’m just glad playing them this year that they don’t have Brady throwing him the ball so it won’t be too tough, but he is still a tough receiver to cover.”
And Bailey knows more than a little bit about covering the league’s best receivers. He ranks Moss up at the top, and he still thinks it’s hard to prepare for the 6-foot-4, 210-pound wideout.

“He is still among the best to me – If not the best,” Bailey said of Moss. “The way he plays he is so capable of making the big play at any moment. I am aware of what he is capable of doing. I have to be perfect almost to have a good game against him.”
INJURY UPDATE
For New England, linebacker Eric Alexander, defensive end Jarvis Green, running back LaMont Jordon, tackle Nick Kaczur, running back Laurence Maroney, wide receiver Kelly Washington and cornerback Jonathan Wilhite are all listed as doubtful.
For Denver, Brandon Stokley, Tony Scheffler, Ryan Torain and Selvin Young are all questionable. Eddie Royal is probable.

get em champ
no matter what… Man to man champ on moss… No zone crap against the best deep reciever in the NFL
Shut him down champ, like you did when he was in Oakland.
Oh boy this should be good!!!!!
At least we know this time for this game, Champ has a pretty good chance at getting show his magic and hopefully he’ll get some INT’s. Its been so obvious this season that no one wants to throw to Champ’s side because he’s too good at what he does… but this time since it’s Champ vs. Moss, he’s gonna be the one doing alot more work (probably) than Bly has been doing. Bly has been getting hammered on and off the field because he’s getting the most action, now we get to see more of what Champ is good at and obviously everyone else in the NFL (player, coach or fan) knows it too because hardly anyone throws the ball his way.
If that doesn’t tell a person how good he is, then I don’t know what does. If he wasn’t good at his job, QB’s would be throwing that ball his way knowing he couldn’t try and pick it or force a fumble or something in his favor. But he is that good and I’m very excited about this matchup. If Royal, comes back at least my hopes will be up a little higher than last week, still wish Scheffler would be back. And I really hope Stokley’s concussion isn’t that bad… we have a lot of receivers but we can’t afford to lose this one or too many more. With all of our incredible players, we are one fierce team and I LOVE it!!! Dominate in this game – that’s one thing I’d love to see as much as another win.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!
Champ is the best corner back ever…… I feel bad for him… he never gets any action on his side… they never throw towards him….. NO 24!!!! IS THE BEST!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!
This should be a good matchup and i think Champ will end up winning. I didnt know they upgraded Ryan Torains status to Questionable i heard we has going to be doubtful, I hope we get to see him play if not ill just be happy if Selvin plays.
MONDAY NIGHT. BETTER BRING YOUR GAME!
Champ is the best all around corner in the league. Go Broncos!!!!!!
amen to that Rodsmithforprez………hands down…no coordinator dares make plays against him……now that he plays the run outstandingly,,he has his own league………..
the bad side of being the best CB in NFL is that your actions will be so limited… teams will not design any plays for you… but nonetheless broncos would love to have that kind of problem (if thats a problem..lol…)
champ, silence moss….
and 1 super request, since u dont have anymore takeaways because teams has only 1 side to consider, can u have a CB blitz and take down cassell with a sack…please…id love to see that… cassell is way immobile than Brady…
pinoy-bronco-fan
Champ will win hands-down, because Moss is a quitter and when his team sucks, he doesn’t try hard. Thus, if Cassel throws toward Champ, he’s going to get some INT’s stacked against him. The Broncos need to take care of business and if they do so, this should be a win of at least 10 points.
two old veterans both the best at what they do hit it on monday night football that matchup is too sweet. champ is not only th best shut down corner he is the only one left, there will never be another with the way the nfl is today. the only reason champ isnt getting picks is cause nobody throws at him unless hes 10 yards from the intended reciever. Champ Bailey is simply as good as it gets at the cornerback position i think we should of used him as a wide out last game too.
Did anyone read that Lowry would be starting in front of McRee or was I dreaming. Go Broncos.
Nope, you aren’t dreaming bones1965. I’m glad they made the switch.
Now if there was just a way to get Josh Barrett in place of Manuel.
I’ve seen enough of Manuel at SS to last me a lifetime.
THE CHAMP IS HERE! THE CHAMP IS HERE! WHO WANTS A SHOT AT THE TITLE. NOT RANDY, SHOW THE WORLD WHO THE BEST CORNER IN FOOTBALL IS ON MONDAY BABY BOY.
what do they say? 60% of the earth is covered by water, the rest is covered by champ bailey? moss shouldnt be a problem.
MNF is really Tuesday afternoon here in NZ.. BUT I will leave work to watch the game!!! Champ is an elite CB and over all the best the NFL has to offer. Without Brady Moss is a mere mortal, but don’t count him out. Cassel might suprise us.. just be weary.. BRONCOS!!!!
Champ is without a doubt the best shut down corner in the NFL. GET SOME PICKS CHAMP!!!! I’m so glad they are going to give Lowery a shot at safety But what about Barrett. Give him a shot. HE CAN’T DO ANY WORSE THAN Manuel
Cisco24 I believe what you mean is “how about TB’s QB!” Champ didn’t do anything against KC’s QB, he forced the fumble on Larry Johnson by forcing him to land on his head. You could feel the fear in LJ at that point as he fumbled to protect himself from breaking his neck.
It was Tampa Bay’s Bryan Greise (spelling?) that he hurt! Don’t care to spell a guy that wasn’t even half a mile high correctly.
Either way Champ is a play maker, even when he is only involved in a play maybe 6 times a game. He finds many ways to contribute. I think he honestly got bored with no one throwing at him, and that’s why he plays on kick off coverage for the special teams!
I mean imagine, trying to stay loose when all you have to do is stand on half of the field. I think if teams didn’t have to line someone up on that side of the ball to cover up the tackle, (procedure penalty) they wouldn’t put anyone over there! LOL
Champ’s the man, I love when we used to just match him man to man against the other teams top reciever, take him out of the game and make them gameplan more.
I think having him at receiver wouldn’t be a bad idea at all either, I remember how he kept that drive alive against KC first year we had him, taking a pitch in the backfield and diving for the marker to get the first!
Come on coaches, get us very favorable matchups on offense and defense!
I remember my little sister hearing “champ” and her thinking of the Lake Champlaigne Monster, how they call it champ from time to time or whatever.
I thought it was a pretty good analogy being as you really don’t see it much, just like you don’t see plays at #24 either.
But when you do see it, IT SURE IS A HIGHLIGHT FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK!
I am so excited to see Champ finally get some action! There’s no way NE will take Moss out of the game just because Champ is covering him, they’re not that smart! Go get ‘em Champ!
Champ is definitely the best corner in the league. Not only a good pass defender but a great open field tackler. It sucks that he does not get more action over there. Only one interception this year because no one passes over his way. Dre Bly is a steady corner as well that is why Im a little shocked he does not have more picks. Losing Lynch really hurt us too. Going back to Bailey though, I sometimes wonder if we did the right thing trading CP because with a running system like ours, he would still be doing a lot of damage. Not sure who I would rather have
I have all the faith in the world that Champ can shut down Moss, and it looks like a perfect chance for him to get an interception. I worry about the other side, and I hope we can sure up the middle and not let Welker get loose. A great game all around, and I can’t wait. GO BRONCOS!
While Champ is definitely one of the best corners in the league, he still occasionaly gets burned, and I think that will happen at least once tonight. Randy Moss is very talented, and he’s especially dangerous when he tries hard.
As far as the game tonight, we will win if we don’t make any mistakes; the Broncos are almost impossible to beat if they play well. If we have more than two turnovers, we lose. That simple.
Well I was looking forwad to this match up when the schedule was annonuced, but after rd one, the atmosphere sort of died on me. No Brday has been a direct effect on Moss’s production as we can all plainly see.. Cassell is suffering from Holding-the-clipboard-too-long-itis lol. The match up will still be a good one and Champ needs to maintain strong mental focus as we cannot underestimate Moss when the ball is thrown deep to him.. Best WR (Regardless of this year so far) versus the no1 CB in the game = FIREWORKS!!! Moss relies on his QB to get him the ball which is also his archilles heal… Always beware of a wounded bull!!! LETS GO CHAMP!!!
Now the Pats will have to throw in Champ’s direction. No other QB has had the guts to do that all season.
rodsmithrules – Philip Rivers threw fairly effectively (other than the questionable INT) toward Bailey all day, including the long pass to Chambers. But I digress, your point is pretty much right.
Now to my real point: Is Champ *really* going to be assigned to Moss tonight, or are we going to do the same stupid crap we’ve been doing all year where we just line Champ up in the same spot every play and allow the opposing team to choose the matchup? This is seriously driving me crazy. We are WASTING our best player, and it has to stop.
Limework, occasionally getting burned as a Safety is part of the nature of the position, and I dont blame Bly for getting burned as much as he has because CHAMP, well he is THE CHAMP! Clearly the best player on the D.
What the Broncos really need to think about is committing to Pittman on 1ST DOWN, and controlling the time of possesion. If they do this BRONCOS will control the whole game.
GO BRONCOS ! ! ! !
The defeat of Denver is disappointing, really they do not have defensive, and an offensive of butter.
