Bailey Presented with Darrent Williams Good Guy Award

December 29th, 2011 - 3:02pm by Gray Caldwell

On Thursday, Champ Bailey was presented with the Darrent Williams Good Guy Award.

The award, given by the Denver chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America, is voted on by the local media and presented to the player that best exemplifies Darrent Williams’ enthusiasm, cooperation and honesty while dealing with members of the press.

“It’s for somebody who handles the job with professionalism, win or lose,” said the Denver Post’s Jeff Legwold when presenting Bailey with the award. “Being that you played with Darrent, we all think it’s a pretty good idea to give it to you this year.”

The award is named after Williams, a former Bronco, who passed away on Jan. 1, 2007 after completing his second year with the team.

“I definitely appreciate this a lot, because I didn’t expect it — I felt like I wasn’t very cooperative this year,” Bailey laughed. “I appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Anything with Darrent’s name on it is special to me, because everybody knows what type of player he was and what type of guy he was. So, again, thanks a lot.”

Bailey is the fifth recipient of the annual award, joining Mario Haggan (2010), Elvis Dumervil (2009), Ebenezer Ekuban (2008) and John Lynch (2007).

I don’t work for the government.

$341.17 in monthly property tax. 15.3 % of every dime made in Social Security tax. 8.75% sales tax. My city requires me to pour concrete and put up fencing. $2459.97 to register, smog, and permit my vehicles. $540.00 again this year for license fees and bond. $5000 or so this year meeting federal Lead Paint removal education and compliance fees. (I’m certain I’ve missed some)

but…I do not work for the government!!! LOL….wait…that’s not funny!

Today we have 3 families who are visiting in my home. That amounts to 4 women, 2 adult female children, 8 teens, and 16 little children and pre-teens.

and you’re really worried about a little daytime blogging? (Thought I’d add a little perspective, Bay.)

I hope all Broncos fans have their seatbelt firmly secured. It may be a rough ride! Enjoy it anyway!!!

Have a great New Years celebration!! Be safe!

I don’t know what I erased to make it go in but there it is. A modified version.

  6. buck484 says:

Congradulation Champ, no one more deserving. Proud you are a Bronco.

  7. daddybronc says:

Turtle – that’s the point!!! I’m hiding out. My office is a 450 sq. ft. shed that is finished, insulated, heated and AC. It has one window and a skylight. Door is locked!!!

  8. WieminCA says:

Geez – Daddy – lighten up … hey – what’s that banging on my door??? … (Grandpa – Grandpa!!!) … heh – heh … no wonder you play softball … it must be a relief to just stand in the outfield for a little while … talk about out-of-cntrol … actually, I really wish my 2 grandkids lived closer … my HS buddy says his little 3 1/2 yr old lives RIGHT NEXT DOOR … wow … that would take some getting used to, but it sure would be fun …

  9. daddybronc says:

    Hey Wiemin,

Did you see my posts from softball last night?

  10. stephen_sholey says:

So…my son just called saying we won both games on our double-header tonight. Not only that -we 15 run ruled both teams – and I wasn’t there!!!

Have I just been Ortoned?!!! Am I the team Eeyore??? Was I our teams ‘best chance to win’???

Oh my! Where is my KC!!! LOL

    Broncos CB tandems:

    Louis Wright and Steve Foley

    Louis Wright and Mike Harden

    Mark Haynes and Mike Harden

    Ray Crockett and Darrien Gordon

    All those were pretty decent.

  16. daddybronc says:

Goodman and Bailey are pretty good as well. I like Goodman – and I think he is more injured and worn down than we know,

  17. daddybronc says:

Anybody know anything about Rafael Bush?

  18. daddybronc says:

Bay – those names bring back a flood of great memories.

  19. WieminCA says:

Daddy – sometimes we just need a little perspective … yeah – the game can sure give you some highs and some lows … just like the Broncos … guess it explains why we’re always here …

Louis Wright – there was a GREAT CB … the others Bay mentioned were good also, but Champ and Louis Wright – what a pair THAT would make … I believe Louis Wright played at San Jose State?? … some of these “other” colleges have produced some really great players … guess they matured “late” … like me – I turned 74 yesterday … my wife’s 14 year-old granddaughter called me and asked me if I felt 74 – I told her I thought I felt mmore like 71 … she didn’t see the humor in that … then I told her, more like 44 … that impressed her … actually, I’m just starting to feel 100% after those damn shingles … guys, and gals – DON’T EVER GET THEM … the pain was 24/7 at times … I could hardly walk for days … but one day, I forced myself to go play softball – did pretty good … but the next day WOW …

    Daddy – you’re TOO funny …

I still predict a Chief’s win on Sunday … I WANT TO BE WRONG … I think their D will win the game … but – THE CHARGERS WILL BEAT THE RAIDERS … and then – Norv Turner will be FIRED!!!!!!!!!

  20. daddybronc says:

Long live Norv Turner in SD!!! He is our best chance to win!!!

  21. daddybronc says:

Ahhh! Not meaning for Sunday but rather on into the future!

  22. baylinorcrush says:

Louis Donnel Wright (born January 31, 1953 in Gilmer, Texas) is a former American Football cornerback who played his entire NFL career for the Denver Broncos for 12 seasons from 1975 to 1986. He was a five time Pro Bowler in 1977 to 1979, 1983 and 1985.

Wright began his college career at Arizona State University, but would later transfer to San José State.

Wright was drafted by the Broncos with the 17th overall pick in the 1975 NFL Draft.

    That was for Wiemin.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

    Texas boy, big surprise, LOL.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

And the cool thing is Wright stayed in Denver, a true Bronco:

Wright is currently a football assistant coach and Physical Education teacher at Rangeview High School in Aurora. He is also a defensive coordinator for Metropolitan State College of the Denver club football team.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

Doing what he loves, very happy for him, remember those guys never made any real big moneys back then, they have to earn a living just like anyone else.

  26. daddybronc says:

and I still think it’s the money that is ruining the game!

  27. baylinorcrush says:

He is a year older than I. No wonder those Bronco days were my fondest.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

    Last but not least:

Louis Wright was named on the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team

  29. baylinorcrush says:

I’ll have plenty of time to talk about all of Bailey’s accomplishments since they are far from done.

  30. daddybronc says:

Dunno…I think Mecklinberg is my favorite all time Bronco. Tebow is the most likely to secede Mecks place in my heart.

  31. daddybronc says:

Of course Elway is the greatest QB ever…but I never did like him all that well as a full orbed person. I would put Davis higher on my list.

  32. daddybronc says:

Bailey has class – but I rank Dawk higher on my list and more influential to the Broncos.

  33. daddybronc says:

Lynch would have been one of my favorites but unfortunately he wasn’t always a Bronco.

  34. daddybronc says:

Wright – I remember him and liked him. I don’t rank him with those in my personal favorites – all time.

Remember Jackson and Johnson! fun days!!!

  35. baylinorcrush says:

And no mention of Gradishar, go figure, that guy did more for the Broncos than anyone except for Elway…

  36. daddybronc says:

Oops – was making verbal posts again not looking to see I had already killed the blog!!!

    Sorry!

  37. baylinorcrush says:

And Floyd Little of course, but I became a Bronco fan at the end of his career, his last two years, so I missed most of it.

  38. baylinorcrush says:

You didn’t kill anything, new blog has been on, LOL.

  39. daddybronc says:

I loved Gradishar the player! You gotta know by now that to impress me – off field is just as important.

  40. daddybronc says:

Like I said wasn’t paying attention.

  41. baylinorcrush says:

Without Floyd the Broncos wouldn’t be in Denver or in Colorado anywhere, I hope everyone knows that.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

What’s wrong with Gradishar off the field?

  43. daddybronc says:

Nothing – he just didn’t impress me with his humanitarian efforts. Might have been his on-field attitude never translated to true humanitarian sentiment for me. Probably just a perception thing. Obviously, not to take away from what he did on or off the field. I love Randy!

I’m going to goodle Little – I don’t know that history.

  44. daddybronc says:

    goodle= Google Haha!
