Bailey Leader Among AFC CBs

November 17th, 2009 - 12:23pm by Gray Caldwell

With five weeks of voting for the 2010 Pro Bowl remaining, Champ Bailey is the top vote-getter among cornerbacks in the AFC.

The NFL has released the top 10 vote-getters in the NFL — with no Broncos making the list — and the top vote-getters at each position in the NFC and AFC — with Bailey the only Bronco making the list.

The Broncos have 26 nominees for the Pro Bowl, with Eddie Royal nominated in two categories — wide receiver and kick returner.

So get out and vote, Broncos fans. You can vote as many times as you’d like at NFL.com/probowl until the deadline of Monday, December 21.

The Pro Bowl teams from the AFC and NFC will be announced at 2 p.m. MST on Tuesday, December 29 on a special NFL Total Access 2010 Pro Bowl Selection Show on NFL Network.

For those interested, the top five vote-getters in the entire NFL thus far are Saints quarterback Drew Brees at No. 1, followed by Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, Vikings quarterback Brett Favre and Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

woot bailey, depressing no one else made it though. I dont get why they do pro-bowl selections so early…

  2. denverbro89 says:

what about Doom who happens to be leading the NFL in sacks if I’m not mistaken.

  3. Gray Caldwell says:

    bronco-blaze –

These aren’t the final selections yet. There is still time to vote before the final teams are selected in late December. This is just one of the early updates the NFL provides us with so we can let fans know how the voting is going.

    denverbro89 –

Elvis Dumervil is in fact the NFL sack leader. But the No. 1 outside linebacker in the AFC at this point in the Pro Bowl voting is Pittsburgh’s James Harrison. The more Broncos fans that go out and vote, the better chance Doom has of cracking the lineup.

  4. brian_schneider says:

Theoretically, you could just continuously vote for a player that may not deserve the ProBowl and they’ll get in strictly based on the number of votes they receiver? I could just continuously vote for say…Mitch Berger for punter and if he would get enough votes he would go to the ProBowl even though he’s a horribly inconsistant punter??

  5. Broncos_Bill says:

I voted during the bye week when we were 6-0. I voted for Brett Kern for AFC punter.

I still don’t understand that move. I was actually pretty impressed with Kern. Then again, they pay me sooo much to provide input on personnel decisions.

  6. Deify_you says:

Just keep voting until they temporary ban your IP guys. Doom deserves a probowl this year, so does Dawkins, Davis,Williams, Marshall, and Royal.

  7. Broncfalls says:

    Gray,

What is the criteria with flexing the schedule? What’s the lead time allowed by the NFL and the networks.

Depending, could the game be flexed to Sunday night considering the implications and story lines.

    Just curious

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

oh…I’ve been voting for ever now.

  8. TheRoyalBeast says:

I doubt that Shneider, Voted up a storm for Bailey last year along with many others but he didnt make it because lets be frank he was injured for like 8 games last season, so the NFL does some looking into it if I’m not mistaking….Its part popularity contest and part statistical.

So lets go out and vote. Alot missing on that list for example, Brandon Marshall WR, Eddie Royal KR, Elvis Dumerville OLB, Clady LT, Brian Dawkins S, and prolly a few others that dont come to me straight away…but those are the most deserving in my eyes that stand a chance of competing with the other big shots in the AFC for votes

Congrats Roland Bailey, I believe this will be your 9th….You truly are a “Champ”

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  9. Broncfalls –

The NFL has already announced that the Week 11 schedule will stay as scheduled, so there is no chance of Sunday’s Chargers game being flexed.

Here are the terms of how games can be flexed, according to the NFL:

The NFL will utilize “flexible scheduling” on Sundays in Weeks 11-17. Flexible scheduling will ensure quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots in those weeks and give teams a chance to play their way onto primetime and into the late-afternoon 4:15 PM ET time slot on CBS and FOX.

For each of the flexible scheduling weeks with the exception of Week 17, the NFL will announce the start times of games on Sundays no later than 12 days prior to that weekend. To ensure a Sunday night game and doubleheader games with playoff implications in Week 17, the flexible scheduling decision for that Sunday may be made on six days notice.

    I voted today.

And yes, Dumervil, amoung others, deserves a trip to Hawaii. He has moved to a new position and is killing it. Just goes to show what effect having the right attitiude can do. Positive thinking guys! We are going to stand up for ourselves, we are going to make the Charges understand who the AFC West leader is!!! Right!!!

So encourage everyone to get on and vote daily. Like your vitamins.

  11. champ24thebeast says:

    lets go people…show the support!

  12. champ24thebeast says:

doom should be on there along with b marsh

  13. iceberg12 says:

Well I know I have voted a few times and a lot more to come over the weeks!!! There are a lot of players on this team that are deserving of beoing in the pro bowl and it is not all based on fan votes. We are only a part of the voting process but our votes do count so get out there and vote as many times as possible.

Also hometeam007- I not %100 sure but isn’t the probowl in Florida this year????

BRONCOS ALL THE WAY 2009 AND FOREVER!!!!!

  14. monodono says:

I DON’T CARE! andI don’t think Champ cares about anything but winning this next game.

  15. monodono says:

Sorry Gray, it’s a good post but we should be focused on the next task at hand and not looking at who goes to a game that doesn’t matter, AT ALL. I really mean no offense but let’s keep our eye on the prize please.

  16. Orange_Crusher says:

I just want to thank Coach McD for coming out in the “I” formation and using a full back on some run plays! We sent runs to the outside and even kept that extra blocker in the box to let the big plays develop. Bravo!

On the other hoof, I can’t understand why he didn’t use it “I” more in the second half?

Honestly…..Nobody thought we would reel off six games in a row, and I’m sure a lot of us are stunned by the three game slide into a tie for the AFCW.

The truth is that right now all I really know for certain is we have only lost three games. If we won six in a row to the disbelief of the nation. Why can’t we do it again and get out of this season with a 13-3 or 12-4 record? It’s not too late to turn this BUS around!

Yeah I know there’s problems on the team but heck, we’ve all seen what this defense can do and also what the offense can do when things are going right. Who’s to say McD can’t put this thing together and make a run to the end of the season.

I’ve seen flashes of brilliance from this team. It’s time to get this candle lit and keep it burning for “60min”! It’s a “one game at a time” climb to the top, and our season starts on Sunday against the Chargers. All we have to do is stay ahead of the Chargers to secure a spot in the playoffs!

    COME ON BRONCOS!!!!!

TOO MANY GUYS WITH WAY TOO MUCH HEART!!! LETS GET THIS DONE!!!

  17. broncos20 says:

i still consider this a successful season. who would’ve thought we’d be hanging around the top going into Dec, considering we’re under a completely new regime at the beginning of the year? lol

now that Orange_Crusher mentioned it, I did see the “I” formation in play, then there was the added deep ball, thats what we love to see, opposing defenses on the bench looking confused and arguing about missed-assignments,instead of a predictable game plan, eyup!
, its becoming a well balanced team if the running game continues to put up yardage…

heal up Broncos, whip those bolts

  18. icefire7 says:

The Broncos need to have a complete game from all facets of the game. I believe the Chargers can be beaten but it will take a solid effort. I also agree that Doom, Clady, Marshall and Royal deserve to go the the Pro Bowl. As they say in Chicago, vote early and often.

  19. monodono says:

Just thought I’d send this to Coach McDaniels. I know He has it in Him to put together a good game plan and start grinding out some more wins like He did the first five games.

“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” ~ Ralph Waldo

    Let’s get it done.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  20. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Well said Monodono…little correction…first 6 games lol

Like I said, you dont win 6 consecutive games of luck alone…We still have the skills, just gotta be more dynamic on offense with our run selections. and he just needs to stop being hard headed and step out of his comfort zone….he finally did with the deep passes and we torched the number 1 pass defense…sending a message to teams that if u sit on short routes all day cuz thats all u think we do…you will get burned….without wild horses we might have lost to patriots…changing it up and being dynamic has helped us alot…lets keep it up and this team can still win the west

Remember, play as a team. Its what got us our first 6 wins. Go Get Em Boys….

PS: Tightends are the Chargers ultimate weakness, sheffler wasnt the only TE to torch the chargers D this year…its been happening all year, look it up

THE SEASON IS STILL OURS FOR THE TAKING
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  21. Peytonoverthehillis22 says:

There are alot of Broncos that deserve the trip to the pro-bowl, but none more than Ryan Clady…..This guy is the best tackle in the NFL and it is attrocious that he is not mentioned. I guess I am going to have to vote for him a thousand times.

Also I really hope that Orton is ready to go against the chargers. Simms just can’t light the match.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

  22. royalbeast5050 says:

b doc is awsome donating for thankgiving he’s a great player and a great person

  23. whitebronco#1 says:

Now you see why Cutler was in a Pro Bowl. What’s the sense of doing the voting so early??? What if Drew Brees suddenly begin to play bad? or Favre, as was last season? It wouldn’t matter, because they have now enough voting to win.

That’s why the Pro Bowl must be played a week after the SB, and the voting should be into the 2 weeks between Conference Championship games and SB. That would be a lot more objective.

Anyway, right now I don’t care if there are zero Broncos this time in Pro Bowl, or 11 in each side of the ball. I just want the Broncos to beat SD THIS sunday.

    Go Broncooos!

  24. brian_schneider says:

The Pro Bowl is nice and a great honor. I can guarantee that our players would rather be playin in Janruary rather than the Pro Bowl. I really hope they don’t pay any attention to who has the most votes or any of that other distracting garbage. All they need to know is we have SD in our own back yard and we better be ready to take care of them. We are going to have to rely on more than Royal’s returning ability to win this game. Marshall needs to embarass Cromartie like he did last season. We had a good gameplan last week, come out in a strong formation with two back set and that set up the long ball. It is time to bring the SD Chargers and their fans back down to earth with a huge beatin’.

  25. whitebronco#1 says:

    From twitter…

“Adam_Schefter As @DaveKrieger wrote, the NFL’s only unbeatens are the Colts, Saints and Titans P Brett Kern, who went 6-0 for Denver, now 3-0 for Tenn.”

Maybe he was mr. lucky charm… and we let him go, just like our 3 game lead in the division.

If Berger doesn’t get a net punting yards at least 45 (without a return for TD, of course), I’ll begin to question mid-season sense of our coach i f he doesn’t waive him.

  26. Fan voting counts for one third of the vote, with players’ votes and coaches’ votes each counting one third as well. Players and coaches cast their votes on December 22-23, so for all of you concerned that players will be more focused on the Pro Bowl update than the upcoming game, that isn’t the case. We are just providing you all with this info to encourage you to go out to vote.
