Ayers Sack Keeps Lions Off Board

October 30th, 2011 - 3:06pm by Gray Caldwell

The Lions faced a third-and-4 at the Denver 37-yard line, knocking on field goal range for Jason Hanson, who just made a 50-yarder.

But Robert Ayers made sure no points went on the board, bringing down Matthew Stafford for a 7-yard loss. It was Ayers’ second sack of the season.

It was the second sack of the game for the Broncos — earlier in the game, Ryan McBean forced Stafford out of bounds 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage for a sack.

The ensuing Detroit punt bounced into the end zone for a touchback, and the Broncos offense will take over at its own 20-yard line with 9:52 remaining in the second quarter.
