After a string of unfortunate injuries, the Broncos have made several roster moves to help fill the voids.

The team announced the signing of linebacker Mario Haggan to the roster, and they also signed P.J. Pope and Roderick Rogers to the active roster from the practice squad, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.
The Broncos have also waived tight end Chad Mustard and added running back Cory Boyd and linebacker Tyson Smith to the practice squad.
Haggan is in his sixth year in the NFL after spending the last five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He appeared in all 16 games during each of the last four years with Buffalo and has played in 65 career games, totaling 21 tackles, one sack and 57 special-teams stops.
Pope has spent the first nine weeks of the season on Denver’s practice squad, and with the injuries to Andre Hall and Michael Pittman, the Broncos elevated him to the active roster to add depth at running back. He began his NFL career with the Bears in 2006 as a college free agent.
Rogers has also been on the practice squad for the first nine weeks of this season, but he saw action in Denver’s final two games of 2007.
Boyd is a rookie running back out of South Carolina who was drafted by the Buccaneers in the seventh round, but Tampa Bay waived him on July 26.
Smith is a second-year linebacker who joins the Broncos after spending training camp with the Dallas Cowboys. He has appeared in three games for his career, totaling four special-teams tackles for the New York Giants during the 2006 season. Last year, he saw time on the practice squads of the 49ers, Redskins and Cowboys. He entered the NFL in 2005 with Baltimore as a college free agent.

what is wrong with Josh Barrett? lol
why are you guys always wanting barrett what was he a 7th round pick. obviously he sucks or he would have been put on active roster STOP SAYING WHAT ABOUT BARRETT. looks like we picked up some more bandades to cover up that gaping wound we have. i cant waite to see the rest of the bloggs and see everyone say haggans and those other guys are going to be sweet and all is well now. i know i sound negative but lets face it injuries have killed us the last few years and its going to kill us this year. WE CANT EVEN BEAT MIAMI AT HOME FOR CHRIST SAKE.
umm columbo if u didnt know. horton for the redskins is a 7th round pick and now starting. you have to give him a shot. and he is big fast strong physical somethin we need. cant hurt us with mccree out for 3-4 weeks. w/e though shanny will know when to give him a shot but now would be the best time in my opinion
Hey columbusOHbronco……
WHAT ABOUT BARRETT?!!!!!!!
Hillis was a 7th round draft pick and look at what he did on sunday. Obviously we can use any help we can get right now. So why not try Barrett? He is physically one of the toughest safety’s we would had and I could gauruntee he would be the fastest. So everyone is correct for wanting Barrett to be activated. He could really turn out to be something good. But we cant know that unless he gets the chance!
As for the other transactions…..
Hopefully Haggans can do something for us. I wasn’t suprised to see a RB activated from the practice squad instead of signing a free agent. Shanahan is going to have 100% confidence in Torain for the remainder of the year.
Chad Mustard was nothing special. Maybe Rodgers can do some good for us?
columbusOH: If all the players we are signing are just “bandades” as you so illiteratley put…why cant we sign a bandaid from our oun roster? At least he can run a 4.3 40 and has the size to develope into an elite safety. Also, the round he was picked in doesn’t have a thing to do with how good he is. Only a complete fool would say that. For example Terrell Davis, or Shanon Sharpe. Or more recently…Peyton Hillis maybe? And as far as Miami goes, they are a much imporved team. May I remind you that they beat Buffalo not long ago who is in the hunt for their division? Its called, “any given sunday” partner. Take a look at your Bengals, who I am sure you believe are fixed now after their first win of the year. Go cheer for the buckeyes…Denver fans don’t need your negativity.
mus be something wrong
Just because some guy isn’t picked 1st in the draft doesn’t mean he won’t be successful on a team or in the NFL. Look at Cutler, outside his mistakes been a better QB than Young and Leinhart and they were both drafted before Cutler.
As for these replacements… I honestly don’t know much about any of them but I hope they can do something for both sides of the ball for us. We need all the help we can get. Torain will be a huge help to us as the season progresses. He’s going to help bring back the Mile High Magic we seem to have lost.
Keep faith Broncos Country…
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!
Well said 07elway…..
Here comes the Ryan Torain train… Have faith Bronco fans.
We stand strong through thick and thin… bad AND good times.
Enough is enough with the negative comments. Come on guys.
Get ‘em Ryan. Bring back the “smash ‘em” ball and mile high magic we love so much.
Hey colombus….
I AGREE!
My guess is that Barret’s knee still hasn’t fully recovered, maybe they’re taking it slow with the kid to make sure he’ll be 100% next season? I know this much, he’s going to be a player for this team. That size and athletic ability doesn’t ride the pine long on any team. He’s a hitter that can cover. He must not be 100% yet. Take a look at the kids hits OH, he’s a baller, just needs to be healthy.
I thought that Woodyard looked promising, I guess the coaches aren’t a fan.
What about Williams? Haven’t seen him except on special teams. I think I read a few weeks ago that Sahnny wanted to give Moss some time at LB. That would be interesting. Barrett should get activated, I mean you drafted him might as well get him some playing time and experience. Right?
actually i think that our dbacks coach is just stupid, barret has more talent then calvin lowry any day of the week. john lynch should be resigned NOW, he could at least make a tackle. McCree was a full time starter for san diego, how can he not start every game for us, except for when he is hurt. B-Marsh was right about our defensive game plan why would we play 10 yards off every play in our secondary coverage? i think it really proves our dbacks coach doesnt know what the f*** is going on seriously. our linebackers are straight screwed now also. no d.j. and no b. bailey, we should be putting niko in somewhere since he was supposed to come in and start at middle linebacker for us. haggan wont help us any where either. wesley woodard should play more since he is probably one of the fastest linebackers for us and he can only get better since hes a young.
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_10883258
Whats up with that?!… is Marshall really weak minded?
i say give him a chance he needs it. Everybody needs to get a chance at some point look at some of the other players in the league that were drafted late and got a chance to play.
I think we should just trust them to do what is best for the team and that is what they are clearly trying to do. It is better than doing nothing. This new linebacker Mario Haggan sounds pretty good and hopefully he can help.
lol bandaids for the ORANGE MUSH. OUR D IS crap. d coord cant figure out a high school football team. paymah has played better than dre bly. no captions on this team. shanahann needs to COACH and not let the other coaches do it. SHOW THIS TEAM HOW TO WIN. if we cant get it together here against the browns call the season over plz.
I wonder why we don’t take a look KGB who Green Bay released? I know they don’t release players that are good but we could try him out and maybe new team might spark something and he could become that consisent pass rusher we are looking for.
We have to put a linebacker that can somehow fill the void left by d.j! our rush defense was ridiculous WITH a fast, good tackler like d.j , imagine how it would be with a slower LB!! Throw woodyard in there and let the kid play! Green has experience but we need speed at that will position. I mean c’mon, woodyard proved he can play just by making the team, give the guy a chance!
larson woodyard all need pt put them in coach. and didnt we already try out a ex packer and he wanted out of denver?
How did we sign more players than we waivered?
PUT THE KID WESLEY IN AND LET HIM SHOW HIS SPEED IF YOU ELECTED HIM FOR A CAPTIAN ON SPECIAL TEAMS AS A ROOKIE THAT MEANS HE GOT SOM SKILLZ!!!!!
Do u guys agree?
ALSO THIS CHAD JACKSON LOOKS LIKE A MAJOR PLAYER BIG STRONG AND CATCHES WITH HIS HANDS.
AND THIS HAGGAN WAS CUT BUY THE BILLS WHEN THEY WERE TERRIBLE IN 2003 AND HAS BEEN OUT OF THE LEAUGE SINCE 2004 BECAUSE OF DRUGS, LOOKS A LITTLE RISK OF MONEY
ALSO THE RUNNING BACK FROM S.CAROLINA LOOKS BETTER THEN POPE
What about Barrett. This guy has some big upside, besides if he is out of position it wont change much because our defense cant tackle, couldn’t tackle high school punter for that case. I like the signing of Haggan but is he really going to make a difference at this point in the season. He has to learn the D. I like the idea of a 3-4 with Moss upright pass rushing. Maybe he could really come on and give the D alittle bit of a pass rush. I wish we had Nalen because that guy could run block and ever since he has been out of the line up the running game cant get going. What is up with Dre Bly did he just lose it over here or what. Karl Paymah looks better than him and i really like that he stepped up and kinda did a good job. He still let his guy get 100 yards i guess that happens though when you play 10 yards off and cant tackle all that well. I agree let wesley play let barret play let these guys get some playing expirence for next year and draft a good MLB next year or at least put in a bid for a big name DT in free agency.
If Barrett was that darn good we would have signed him from the practice squad already or another team would have signed him off our practice squad. That’s how we lost D Hixon to the Giants a couple years ago. Barrett may end up being good but remember what we saw in the preseason was him playing against 3rd and 4th teamers.
Blife how can you say Bly has lost it and then say Paymah did a good job?
They both were playing off the ball 10 yards?
sign deangelo hall once he gets released from the raiders.
im not going to lie our defense sucks.
the only good thing that might come from us losing so much.
is the draft.
James Laurinitis.
I THINK ALL THESE GUYS WE SIGNED SUCK I THINK WE SHOULD AT LEST TRY TO SIGN SOMEONE WHO CAN MAKE PLAYS. ARE D IS A JOKE!! AND NOW LOOK AT ARE OFFENCE IT CANT DO NOTHING!!!! WHAT A WAST OF TIME BROWNS ARE GOING TO RUN ALL OVER US!! NO PLAY OFF HOPES THIS YEAR!! WE CANT EVEN BEAT MIAMI AT HOME HOW WE GOING TO BEAT TEAMS WITH OUT SCOREING POINTS!!!
CutlerBmarsh: James Laurinitis looks good but the way our Safeties, all of them, have played this year I think that’s our biggest need right now. Then Linebacker, Center(both ours are getting old), Wr(Stokley is getting older and possibly one concussion could end his career).
Seriously, Denver should sign noone, they should spend nothing and leave cash to make a couple off-season pickups. Even if Denver made playoffs, they’re not winning a superbowl with this team. Stop crying for them to sign KGB and DHall…we don’t need to sign people and pay em lots of money when they are done, when we should be promoting guys from the roster and giving them playing time so they are experienced for next year. And D Hall doesn’t have the attitude to be a Bronco, whether or not he’s a good player, he’s a douche.
Don’t talk draft, I mean shanny is good at finding gems in the later rounds so really a high pick for us doesn’t mean much unless it’s plainly obvious that that person is by far the best for the decade of drafts. So really name one guy in the last decade that is by far the best player out of the draft for those years! High draft picks are very over rated in my opinion! Come with too high a price tag, and in a lot of cases don’t live up to that potential and end up moseying around the league until they find a team that developes their flaws and they mature enough to really get the game at the pro level.
I personally would like to stay at our mid grade picks, because it has been proven the last few years that they are not near as pricey as the picks occuring before them, and we are still getting the same performance out of them. Take Cutler for example, drafted 12th? And before him you had, Young, Leinart, Bush, Williams. Can you really say that for his position he has not done as much for his team as the rest of them? Now consider their respective pay…. MY POINT EXACTLY!
Example 2: Clady, tackles taken before him are getting more attention but he is by far out performing them! And really name one person in that draft that you would LOVE to have on your team because they have changed the game much more than he could.
I personally would not only love to see us make it to the playoffs because I love to see us extend our season, try and make a push, get some recognition for being there, put a damper on the Chargers hopes and morale. But PRIMARILY because I would like to have a 10-20 round pick in the draft, so much more you can do in that area. Trade up and get the guy you want/need, but you can also trade down and get some more picks. How many people really trade up for a 1-8th round pick? How many are able to trade down?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but those are just my beliefs.
I like the “band aid” aquisitions because it gives our rookies we want to see some more time to develop before being thrown in the shark pit, and it gives us more depth for when our players that our out become healthy.
Just hold onto the ball offense, and we won’t have to worry about the defense being patched up…..
I think Cory Boyd is a good tailback and perhaps he will fit in well in our scheme. He was a solid player for the Old Ball Coach at South Carolina. I also like Mario Haggan as he had some solid moments for the Bills. He’s not a long-term solution but I don’t see the defense significantly improving until the collegiate draft in April. We’ve got to make do with what we’ve got and I still like our chances. It all starts with blowing out the Browns. If we do so, everything looks that much better. I want to be 5-4 with a 10-day wait before we go to the ATL and smack the resurgent Falcons. We can do it!
atleast we added some youth the the DBs in Rodgers…still need A LOT of help too…
Ok,,i wasnt expectin D-Hall to be released,,,
AND I CANT BELIEF MARSHALL LET PORTER GET INTO HIS HEAD…
tjboy2011: Haggan actually has not been out of the league since 2004. He has played in every game for the past four seasons.
RonaldBailey24: The Broncos did not sign more players than were waived. You must take into account the fact that both Hall and Pittman were placed on injured reserve while Mustard was waived. That leaves three open active roster spots. They have been filled by Haggan, Pope and Rogers. Since Pope and Rogers both came off the practice squad, that leaves two empty spots on the practice squad. They have been filled by Boyd and Smith.
Wesley Woodyard should be given a chance to start. End of. Bench Jamie ‘Facemask’ Winborn.
Alright.. we need to play these young guys while we got a clear chance to see if they are gamers or not…. then next year, free agency oh and yeah… by the way.. we get 2 first round picks if im not mistaken for all of you that don’t care about this season and want the draft to start already, I beleive we got Arizona’s pick this year, which is amazing they are starting to do something, thought for sure that was a great deal. Oh well… and look how some of these rookies are turning out… royal.. clady.. hillis… why not give these guys a chance. Woodyard was a stud in college and then doesn’t get drafted at all… get the guy in there, huge chip on his shoulder! And our defensive cordinater.. get that man out of there…. why can’t we find a guy to coach our defense worth a crap..
Ok i here a lot of dont say this dont say that. Your not a real broncos fan for thinking that way. Well im realistic and here are my two cents. We SUCK as a team this year just like we have had for the last 5 years. We have a QB that likes to give the ball away in a regular bases. Yes our D sucks but when the offence turns the ball over 4 times a game on averege there is no team in the NFL that can overcome that not even your 8-0 Titans.
i say we will score 30pts against cleveland i hope its enough go cutler we believe in you in s. w indiana. go broncos
No one needs or wants any of your negative comments. With fans like you guys who needs fans at all. Buck up and think positive. Our team needs us to beileve in them right now so be a really fan and hope for the best.
I don’t know if you heard but someone just completed another pass to a reciever being covered by Karl Paymah…………..I’m still disturbed by this. It was like watching the AFC Championship game vs. the Steelers a few years back all over again. If you remember in that game Rosenbagger picked on Foxworth and Williams all game and we had no answer. Same was the case this past Sunday as the Dolphins kept picking on Paymah. How about slipping in a different CB every now and then to cover Camarillo………maybe Jack Williams. Oh and nice coverage by Louis Green on Ricky Williams on that key 3rd down late in the game. I know he was in there cuz DJ just got banged up but holy crap that was terrible. The offensive PI call on Marshall was just crap……..if that is not called we win the game. So…….my feeling is if we don’t win Tomorrow vs. Cleveland our hopes of an AFC West Championship are done! Let’s go out there and hit some Browns in the mouth and get a win!
Go Broncos!
I know right now it’s hard to keep a positive attitude about our beloved Broncos…..but look people we are true fans…correct?? We have to stand behind the team win or lose. Look how long it took for then to win back to back SB’s!!! It’s just very frustrating right now because all 4 games we lost are games we should of won. We had problems with the “D” last year also. I think the coordinator on our “D” needs to be replaced. Just think if we had a “D” like the Titans or even Miami for that matter we could be at the top. I feel like we can beat the Brownies tomorrow night. Our “D” looked half way decent against the Fins. We just have to cover better….this 10 yards off the opposing receiver is CRAZY!! Our “O” has got to stop turning the ball over and allowing the other teams to capitalize points. Yes we are banged up…but I know we can prevail and it all starts tomorrow night win a WIN against the Browns…one good thing is Brady Quinn will be their starting QB and hopefully we can put some pressure on him to make some mistakes. GO BRONCOS!!! It’s not over until the fat lady sings!!!
All i know is that the city of cleveland is going to super pumped for this Brady Quinn kid. Yeah he was a stud in college, but so was the Cut and if nobody remembers how happy were we when good ole Cutler got his first start againts the Seahawks, which we lost. So lets make it certain that yes we do put even more pressure than the city is on this kid and play some smash moth F#$ing football. Ohio’s right the game changer was the huge throw and catach from cutler to B marsh called back, killed the drive killed the rally, killed the game. Our D needs to step up against the Browns or we will have to worry about everyone in the division loosing instead of us dropping another game to a sh@ty team….. Neadless to say GO BRONCOS!!!
the raiders have parted company with deangelo hall, anybody think he would look good in blue and orange just wondering
31 pts was enough great win that was a dog fight and we won. hillis doesnt get enough credit he played good
