The Broncos held a walk-through Friday morning in preparation for Saturday’s preseason opener at Houston.
ATTENDANCE REPORT: Champ Bailey, Hamza Abdullah, Dewayne Robertson and Tom Nalen were all out of uniform during the practice and Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced that they will all be out against the Texans. He also said that Dre’ Bly will be only out on the field in nickel coverage.
POSTURING FOR POSITION: Eddie Royal took reps with the first unit and will start at wide receiver opposite Brandon Marshall on Saturday.
TAKE AWAYS: Positional units practiced together going over formations and assignments. The team also had some 7-on-7 walk-through with the offense taking on the defense. To end practice the team went over which squads should be on the field at certain times. Shanahan would shout a unit for example “first unit field goal” and those 11 players would run on the field. Then he would tell certain players to go to the sideline and their backups would rush onto the field.
QUOTABLE: “He would not be working with the starting unit unless he has proven to us that he is very consistent and he deserves that chance to start. For a guy to get that chance to start kind of gives you an idea of how hard he has been working and what he has done in practice.”

Congrats Royal…now give Denver something awesome to cheer about.
Marshall, the over-the-middle threat which is gonna turn short passes to long gaines with Yards After Catch
and
Royal, the speed demon big-play-waiting-to-happen receiver who’s gonna burn a lot of DB’s and make them look silly
I like our young WR corpse with those two and Colbert
Way to go Royal!
Off subject but, I guess Spencer Larsen isn’t as promising as they hyped him up to be. I haven’t heard anything good about him to date. It seemed like they we’re real high on him; as shown on TV for the draft special. I wish he was better than what we already had going for us. Oh well, guess I just want to have my cake and eat it too.
Still, I look forward to this draft class defining the Broncos for years to come. On the other hand, I haven’t heard much about the defensive rookies making an impact. Maybe Jack Williams, but we need a good DT, MLB and S. (Maybe I’m just scared from last years turnout even with the change of defensive coordinators.)
P.S. Here is to Eddie “Casino” Royal…..Rock On!!!!
Jack-O-Lantern, Larsen has been going through some testing family issues including the death of his niece, and the birth of his own child. It’s hard to think that this training camp has been a fair barometer of his abilities with all those extenuating circumstances. Carlton Powell is also out for the year with a ruptured achilles tendon so that would be why you haven’t heard much of him.
Looks like we have something special in Fast Eddie!!
