Adams: ‘It Just Felt Right’

March 15th, 2012 - 4:53pm by Gray Caldwell

It didn’t take free agent safety Mike Adams very long to decide Denver was the place for him.

“It is a great fit for me,” he said Thursday. “The atmosphere is good and it felt right. I didn’t have to take any more (visits), it just felt right.”

He laughed that the 70-degree weather didn’t hurt, especially coming from Cleveland.

But most of all, he appreciated the warmth he felt from everyone he met on the visit, from Owner/CEO Pat Bowlen to Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway to Head Coach John Fox.

“I knew of Fox when he was with the Giants,” Adams said. “I was born and raised in Paterson, NJ, and I heard nothing but good things about him. Even when he went to Carolina – nothing but good things about him. It was proven once we all met today and it was a no-brainer to not take any more visits and just stay here.”

Adams said he met “basically everybody in the whole facility” as he took a tour around Broncos headquarters, enjoying his meetings with his position coaches and Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio.

“Coach Jack Del Rio – he played the game 11 years, so he knows and he understands what defensive players go through, when he needs to back off or when he needs to push guys,” he said. “As a player, that’s what you want. You want a coach that really understands. (Fox and Del Rio) definitely do.”

Adams spent the last five seasons in Cleveland, starting all 16 games for the Browns in 2011, leading the team with three interceptions while accumulating 61 tackles six passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The ninth-year safety said he played some cornerback for the Browns as well, in addition to the nickel corner and dime corner positions.

“I’m not the typical 215-pound, 220-pound safety,” he explained. “I’m a 200-pound, versatile safety that can add flexibility to the defense. I think that’s one of the things that attracted Coach Fox and Coach Jack to me, the fact that I can be flexible.”

While Adams said he and the Broncos haven’t gone into details about his role on the defense next year, he knows part of his job description already.

“(Being a mentor) is part of it — that’s part of my job being in the league going on nine years,” he said. “Whatever knowledge I have, I’m definitely going to give it to Rahim (Moore) and ‘Q’ (Quinton Carter). I’m going to give it to both of them and try to help them out as much as possible so they can be successful in this league.”

So now that Adams is going from orange to orange and blue, what can Broncos Country expect to see from the team’s newest addition?

“They can expect a lot of enthusiasm, for me to go hard every play,” Adams said. “They can expect us as a defense playing together. That’s what the Broncos fans can expect.”

Well I guess I stuck my foot in my mouth, sorry ab.

  3. gabeharter says:

The article makes you wonder if paying PM 10 X what tebow gets is any help maybe just a diss to Tebow spend that much in weapons on offense get dallas clark and a good C and mike wallas then draft a DT aRB and our team would be beast if we get a cb in FA in my opinion…. loaded with talent and still money left.

  4. BeastFromEast92 says:

That’s why I don’t read the DP,I’d rather listen to Bay,he’s the most reliable source when it comes to the Broncos,….hey Bronco wiki..where u at???

  5. shaztah says:

Well at least one QB gets the support of his FO.

“We do think Colt has a big ceiling,” Heckert said. “It’s my job to get better players surrounding him. After the season, we said we have to protect him better. We have to be able to run the football, which we did at times last year. If you look at the games when we ran well and protected well, Colt played very well.”

Too bad OUR QB can’t get a supporting cast. What happened to the 5 year project? Oh yeah PM will only be 41 then.

  6. brian_schneider says:

Good thing about Manning is now instead of Tebow throwing the ball away we’ll get to see Manning throw interceptions. LOL!

  7. BeastFromEast92 says:

    90 million for 5 years???

  8. shaztah says:

Hubby is happy to hear that.

  9. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Broncos meeting with Peyton Manning, offering roughly $90 million over 5 years http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_20188486/denver-broncos-plane-headed-n-c via @denverpost

reaks more and more the further we go

  10. DenverCB says:

Yea, bring in Wallace hes pretty good at making backwards passes look like incompletions!!!

  11. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Shaztah … he is talking about running the ball well but didn’t resign Hillis …. Trent Richardson anyone?

  12. brian_schneider says:

I’d rather of us spent that money on Mario.

  13. 1nOnlyTRB says:

CB pay manning 90 mil and the only thing we will be able to bring in are cheapplayers past their prime

  15. DenverCB says:

That is an Ubsurd amount of money!!!!!!!

  16. gabeharter says:

The more i hear about this PM thing prolonging the less i like it.

  17. Bronco_Turtle says:

hey good plan… let’s pay that guy all we can for the next three years and see if he can take the 4-12 talent that is on this roster to a superbowl victory… I mean, so many times with a team built just for him he got the job done…. almost… Don’t bother trying to get the best Defensive player available… Spluh… what planet am I on?

I’m depressed by this nonsense… and it takes alot to make a Turtle blue… this is so DUM DUM DUM DUM PUM PUM PUM PUM

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

Wallace is an UFA,it would cost us our 1st round draft pick to get him, plus a huge contract to lure him away from the Steelers.

That was the Colts original offer 5 years 100 million,Manning said keep 10 million to sign Addai,so it was 5 years 90 million.

  19. gabeharter says:

Haha…. cheer up BT nothing has been done yet…… Cross your fingers and hope 4 the best. :-D

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

PEYTON YOU BLOODSUCKER!!! GO CRAWL BACK UNDER A ROCK….

VON TEBOW FOOTBALL BABY!!!! I still Believe!!!

BRING US SOME BEEF!!!! (if there’s any left)

  21. gabeharter says:

These media sources are scattered on the “facts” can’t wait to see what it really is.

  22. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Manning also already collected over 50 mil from the Colts because of his new contract even tho he didn’t play a snap under that new contract.

And now we are about to sign him working of that same contract for 5 years 90 million with 60+ mill payed in the first 2 years … this is getting more and more ludicrous as it goes. And people believed it wasn’t about the money and he would not bankrupt the team chashing him … well now u know … and if its anything like his last contract, he could go down week 3 and who knows, still collect 50 plus million.

    TRB

  23. gabeharter says:

Who Let The Cow Out?!?! WE Want BEEF!! haha

  24. brian_schneider says:

For that kind of money we had better win the Super Bowl the next 5 years.

  25. 1nOnlyTRB says:

We are taking addai too? really? how magnanamus of u manning. shelling out 10 mil to your former teammate. we already have an addai and we are frustrated enough.

  30. gabeharter says:

    CB have a gd 1.

  31. BeastFromEast92 says:

DenverCB…I’ll have several for you dude!!!!!!!!

  32. 1nOnlyTRB says:

From the start i said this reaked of desperation and if there is one thing history has showed us in football … desperation rarely pays off. But people are like “how dare you speak against the front office” “he won’t drain the team, he wants to win” “Broncos are not into throwing money around” … well, here we go. last time we got McDaniels to create Patriots west it blew up in our faces. And if u don’t learn from hsitory u are doomed to repeat it. Well guess what … call us doomed if he agrees to us … because even one superbowl does not equate that risky contract … and that 1 superbowl is not gauranteed. Well … its bowlens money … go crazy buddy. People say “be patient in FA only been a couple of days, we will sign someone” … the real patience needed is in building this team the right way, not trying to buy a championship. That rarely works.

  33. 1nOnlyTRB says:

For the future denverCB … Bronco Country! Have a good weekend.

    Bronc on Rock on

    BFE

  35. brian_schneider says:

This isn’t going to end well for Tebow even if we don’t get Manning. Not getting Manning is going to leave a sour taste in EFX mouth. They’re going to have resentment towards Tebow, and quite honestly I wouldn’t blame Tebow if he had the same feelings towards EFX. EFX will not put 100% effort to helping Tebow we’ll probably go 6-10 maybe 7-9 then since Tebow didn’t win a Super Bowl his 3rd year in the league they’ll trade him and bring in their own QB. No matter what happens Tebow won’t be on the team after this season, maybe not on the team for the season.

  36. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB you better tell Von Miller it’s Broncos Country,LMAO!

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

One more thing before I leave,Elway wants a conventional QB,it is what it is!!!!!!!!

  38. 1nOnlyTRB says:

BFE, I tell Von Miller EVERYDAY … right when he tweets Nation … I reply back “BRONCOS COUNTRY” … he is yet to realize it. Im sure many people tweet him. But I won’t give up lol

Duke Chronicle Sports is reporting that Manning didn’t throw for the Broncos staff today.

  45. gabeharter says:

That would suck if they show up and nobody is there except the janitor. HAHA!

  46. millertime2 says:

Yah, I think so to Gabe, their plane is set to leave in an hr or 2. They can still conduct interviews today.

  47. millertime2 says:

Well someone has to clean the plane LMAO

  48. 1nOnlyTRB says:

havent u heard nalen … no space for them with our monster manning contract.

And those are not my words … via AdamShefter. He said John Abra.hams market was slow cuz of manning (he was talking about us because we were the only ones that WERE gonna bring him in) … so he decided to chill with the Falcons … Trufant on the other hand has no real suitors so he can wait for a long time. Dunno about McClain.

I wouldn’t call it jumping to conclusions … just new information coming to light supporting what many feared from day one.

    TRB

  49. gabeharter says:

Hopefully they were morning interviews so we will have some news to check out until the PM junk is done.
