The third preseason game is typically the last dress rehearsal, if you will, for the first-unit offense before the regular season.
While some positions are becoming clearer, others are still up in the air.
One of the spots dubbed “a competitive situation” by Head Coach Josh McDaniels is at left guard.
For the majority of training camp and the preseason, Zane Beadles has spent time as the first-unit left guard. But McDaniels said “there are a lot of guys still competing for that job,” including Stanley Daniels, who filled in for Chris Kuper at right guard when the veteran sat out practices.
The head coach anticipated both players seeing extensive time at the position against the Steelers.
“We’re just finalizing how we’re going to rotate those guys around and last for four quarters doing it,” McDaniels said. “So you’ll definitely see a combination of Daniels at left guard with Beadles at left tackle. You’ll see Beadles at left guard with a different set of tackles in there.”
“That’s how we’ve practiced this week,” he continued. “We’ve rotated them, we haven’t given the job to anybody and we think both players are really competing hard for it.”
McDaniels ventured that neither player is satisfied with his consistency and level of play, but that’s to be expected with young linemen in the first year in a system.
Regardless of who earns the starting role, the head coach is hopeful both players will help the team in the long run.
“Hopefully the winner of that job will play well, and the player who may not have that job at the beginning of the season, hopefully he continues to push and compete to try to continue to take that job away,” McDaniels said. “I think that will only make both players better.”
BEADLES NAMED MWC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Speaking of Beadles, the rookie on Thursday was named the 2009-10 Mountain West Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The annual award — established in 1999 — is given to the student-athlete who achieves excellence in academics, athletics and the community.
Beadles had to maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average, demonstrate leadership and exhibit good character and conduct on and off the playing field to take home the award. In the process, he received a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship.
The lineman graduated from utah in December, 2009, with a bachleor’s degree in mechanical engineering. In the meantime, he was busy starting 50 of 51 career games played for the Utes, garnering All-American recognition as a senior.

11-5 you heard it here first…. and anyone in the yahoo fantasy league quit sending me requests for arian foster.. unless you really want to unload some offensive firepower for him…..
I like that one, I made mine way before all the injuries and I always stick with my first impression, but if I was to pick now, I’d do the 8-8. Then again, 8-8 would be no improvement at all in McD second year like you said, a type of failure if you wish, so I like to look at it with a possibility of improvement, even if modest with 9-7. Well so far we got it covered from 7-9 through 10-6 and every record in between.
If were only goin with one here, I’ll pick 10-6! I think we will do way better offensively!
Sorry Bay I was logged off for a while. It’s hard to trust myself as I am always too optimistic vis a vie the Broncos(except for two years did make $ then)I say 10 and 6with playoffs on the line last game vs SD.Funny the first game is so critical they run the ball well our weak point so I’ll take the Broncs on the money line and hope.GO BRONCOS!!
I go with 10-6 I like our odds being the underdogs.
Good, got all you guys down, keep those season record predictions coming.
Take a look at the monumental error made by the DP under a photograph:
BRONX27– Jamal Williams (76) talks about joining his brother D.J. Williams (55) after practice, Friday August 27, 2010, at Dove Valley. The Brothers are playing together for the Broncos. Veteran D.J. Williams was joined recently by Jamal at the linebacker position. RJ Sangosti/ The Denver Post
We are not professionals and even we do not make such stupid mistakes, not once but twice, give me the job! Jamal at the linebacker position!!! does this Sangosti guy even know who the Denver Broncos are? Geeee. DJ and Worrell are linebackers and brothers, Jamal is our NT, dumb kopf.
Another scary, thing, unfortunately this one is a serious one I’m glad Klis brought to my attention:
How about a three-and-out? The first-team defense has allowed penetration into field-goal range every possession so far.
Bend but not break is not going to cut it if you allow the other team to kick a FG in every single possession, right down disturbing, and we are talking first team!!!
Interesting view of the CBA impasse and a possible way to go about it in Klis’ article “More, not less, is NFL mantra” today in the DP, too long to post here.
Well, this is it, game day for the most significant game of this preseason, the third game, the one where starters play into the third quarter, the ultimate dress rehearsal for the regular season since the fourth game is just for the backups to prove their worth to avoid the final cuts.
So many unanswered questions regarding the first team:
As stated above can the D actually stop a drive outside of FG range?
Can they stop anybody on the ground, inside or out?
Can they find the LB combo that can both perform well against the run and the pass since they haven’t done either so far.
Who will make out the starters on the left side of the O line, the most heated position battle namely because of Clady’s questionable availability and Daniels reportedly coming on strong. Beadles reportedly is all of a sudden not a shoe in anymore.
Regardless of who runs the ball, can the revamped O line open up holes for them to run through, or will it still be as anemic as it has been?
Well, those are the main questions I will look to get some answers to, but even if this is just a preseason game it would do a load of good for everyone on the team, players and coaches, if they could win it, because the odds of winning our last preseason game at the Vikings with our back ups are not very good since a team as good as the Vikings have much more depth than we do, and going into the regular season with winning only 2 of your last 12 would not exactly be appealing, not trying to scare anyone, just pointing out to the obvious. We haven’t won since December 9 of last year, it’s a bad taste in your mouth you’d like to get rid of before the regular season starts, a vote of confidence if you wish, and today is the best opportunity out of two games remaining to do just that. Big game, don’t be fooled by the preseason label, just my opinion.
Bay
Put me down for 10-6. Using my heart not my head. But I soo do not want to sluge through a middle of the road season again. Besides my head has no idea what McD is doing. So I will listen to my heart cuzz (ready)—
I LOVE ME SOME DENVER BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!
FTR
I like what I see from our #1′s on offense thus far this season. Our #1′s on D however are way too similar to what I saw last year. Although I would like to reserve judgment on them till all players are healthy and playing.
FTR – I will agree with you on your prediction for the season record. I believe with the new development of Orton and his ability to spread the field this year, two more wins is realistic.
Not to bring up the past, but I am. Has anyone watched any of the Browns games this pre-season? Well, I have seen two of them and I know who received the better end of the trade between Peyton Hillis and Brady Quinn. Hillis looks great and I cannot believe we traded him, just saying.
Broncomania56
Yeah I have been watching Peyton Hillis he has 21 att 80 yds 3.8 average and 1 of his blasting steam roller TD’s. I have been hoping BQ would turn into a DQ treat but he has disappointed. I also think Orton not only is our best QB but deserves to be so. I hope we do well tonight but I still think we are missing too many 100 % players to judge them. It’s still only a preseason game.
Not downplaying its importance just saying.
FTR
I say 10-6 also Bay. FTR took the words right out of my mouth. I just cannot go into this season with the demeanor that our beloved Broncos will be mediocre and finish the season like a lame duck.
I know that this has been the infamous off season of “ifs” but with all of the issues the Chargers are having, I see this year as a big oppurtunity. Of course the Dolt fans things Rivers is a god send ( I actually read blogs where charger fans were arguing that Rivers is better then Manning) but their offense is missing key players. The Raider fans think that they are going to win the super bowl, whats new?
Lets go Broncos, kick some butt baby.
wow 10 and 6′s are mighty rampant. every year thats what i think we are going to be. for as long as i can remember. thats the worst i see us doing. 10 and 6 or better, but this year, just aint feeling the vibe, i know im biased, but still i just dont think we are any better than previous years. maybe i am gauging it by the wrong things, but preseason hasnt convinced me either. This game will be a good teller. and mroe importantly Jacksonville. 10 and 6 tho, wow, i see many peopel are keeping the faith lol
I couldn’t make myself so optimistic as going 10-6, 9-7 is the best I could do, but yeah the 10-6 have the upper hand now, 6 out of ten picks so far…
To reiterate;I would take the over in the u/o 7 wins for season BUT you have to wait till the end of the season! Instead I would take the money line(Broncos have to win and since they are underdogs you get plus money like 135 for every 100 that you bet) In the jacksonville game I see that game as crucial as they have the thing we fear most a good running game and if we lose that one it will be that much harder for us to go even 8-8.GO
BRONCOS!!
A blessing I’m grateful for my team on my nice TV. GO BRONCOS!!
The opening line for the Jacks game is currently favoring Jacks by 2.5 points, considering the 3 point standard home field advantage you can see how tight this game is being considered, except for some fans here who think our first real test is not until the Colts!?!?! Jacsonville does run the ball well with Maurice Jones Drew and their O line and Garrard just played very well in his third preseason game, we will have our hands full in that sauna of a game, it will be a tough one for our guys to finish strong, tough weather environment for the first game of the year, we got real unlucky in the scheduling of that game.
Garrard, 24 of 31 for 211 yards in a win against Tampa, usually a decent D. Didn’t see any stats for MJD, guess he didn’t play.
This is the lowdown on MJD:
Aug 27, 2010 – Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew is out for the rest of the preseason, according to Aaron Wilson of National Football Post. The report states that Jones-Drew is suffering from a “minor knee injury.” There’s been no word yet from the Jaguars if this is the case but Wilson reports Jones-Drew recently went through an arthroscopic procedure to clear out parts of his knee. Jones has been dealing with “lingering meniscus issues”, according to Wilson. Jones hasn’t practiced all week and has insisted to reporters that he’s not hurt. “It’s like Allen Iverson said, it’s practice,” Jones-Drew said Thursday. “There’s no worries.”
Sounds like he’ll be ready for us…
We are going national tonight, we will be on everyone’s TV, time to show the world we are ready, or at least getting there by handing it to the Steelers.
GO-O-O-O-O… BRONCO-O-O-S!!!
OC and FTR….lOVE US SOME DENVER BRONCOS!!!!!
come on bay.. give us some ILMSDB!!!!
lets get our cutting torch out against those Steelers!!!!
KEEP THE DRIVE ALIVE BRONCOS!!!!

WIN BACK THE MILE HIGH MAGIC AT INVESCO FIELD!!!!!!
ILMSDB!!!!
ILMSDB!!!!!!
Ok so this morning I was reading or should I say skimming through the 2010 NFL Preview Issue from Sporting News. They are predicting the Broncos go 4-12? What……….4 wins? I have a hard time believing from what I’ve seen from the offense so far that we’ll only win 4 games. WK 1 Win, WK 2 Win, WK 3 Loss, WK 4 Win, WK 5 Loss, WK 6 Loss, WK 7 Win, WK 8 Win, WK 9 Bye, WK 10 Win, WK 11 Loss, WK 12 Win, WK 13 Loss, WK 14 Win, WK 15 Loss, WK 16 Win, WK 17 Win. I’ve got 10-6 here.
So stoked by the way my Eddie Royal & Tim Tebow jerseys just arrived!
Go Broncos!
