A Closer Look at Luke Richesson

February 2nd, 2012 - 9:48am by Gray Caldwell

Along with the news that the Broncos had hired Jack Del Rio as defensive coordinator last Friday, the team announced that Luke Richesson was joining the club as its strength and conditioning coach.

It’s a move that Del Rio said shouldn’t go unnoticed.

“I think he’s a really good coach,” Del Rio said in a conference call Monday. “He’s all about helping the team win.”

Richesson served in the same capacity with the Jaguars for the past three seasons, after Del Rio hired him in January, 2009.

Prior to that, Richesson designed and implemented programs at Athletes’ Performance, which provides training, nutrition and physical therapy to help elite collegiate football prospects prepare for the NFL Combine.

“I was looking to bring in a guy that was a little bit outside the box of traditional strength training,” Del Rio explained. “Luke, in the time that he had under his belt at (Athletes’ Performance), was very productive with getting guys ready for the combine, getting them ready to have special years.”

Del Rio found that in Jacksonville, many of his players wanted to go to Arizona to an Athletes’ Performance facility for their offseason training. So he asked them what was so special about the program before going to meet with Richesson to find out for himself.

“I interviewed him and he was terrific,” Del Rio said. “He’s more into functional strength, a lot of core strength, a lot of cutting-edge technology in regards to training the human body and recovery and all those things.”

From 2001 to 2008, Richesson not only worked with NFL veterans, he helped train 52 first-round draft picks — including four No. 1 overall selections — and more than 250 total draftees.

The coach, who enters his fourth season in the NFL, earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science while playing football at the University of Kansas.

“He’s a tireless worker,” Del Rio said of Richesson. “I think he’ll be an asset to the organization.”

I know TRB and I have said the exact same three positional needs in the first three rounds and now walterfootball agrees 100%, so I guess now it will all come down to in what order…

  2. baylinorcrush says:

Actually in truth our first three picks should be ILB, safety and TE.

  3. seweatherman1 says:

Actually it comes down to EFX, and their line of thinking. We all feel Fox is thinking defense, but he doesn’t have final say, does he.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Fox has a vote like in any democracy, even the Triumvirate.

  5. baylinorcrush says:

Meaning that’s all he has, the final say is in Elway’s hands, in case of a three way disagreement Elway’s vote counts double, LOL.

    shaztah,

At the bottom of the web site on your browser it should say view full website push that and then it should look just like it does on your computer then just navigate around like you normaly would.
I have a I phone so im not sure if this will work for you or not.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

And Bowlen has veto power but I doubt he wants to exercise that anymore, in Elway he trusts.

Weatherman: “Now we know who won the “Never Say Never Moment” of the year. I wonder if it will be televised?”

It will be on NBC at 10 pm Eastern time. This is the Inaugural honors show for the NFL and will be hosted by Alec Baldwin.

There were 5 finalists for the Never Say Never award, and Tebow’s finalist moment was ONLY for the Bear’s game, not all of them, although he and the Broncos won it 5 times over the season, and were nominated 6 or 7 times.

All finalists for the awards can be at the show to accept if they win, so even though Tebow has a good chance for winning his award, he’s not necessarily the shoe in. I hope he wins it, but he’s going up against Clay Matthews, Tony Romo, Jason Campbell, and Joe Flacco. His chances are pretty good though, in my opinion.

For anyone interested, the interview Skip Bayless (not much of a fan of his since his Aikman smear) did with Tebow in Indy yesterday will be on First Take today in just a minute. Hope Skip kept his emotions in check.

Thanks Tide. The way it reads to me was he had won it. I guess some of our writers of news need to return to school and catch up on what they missed.

Too true bay. DT RB and CB … in no particular order.

ILB S TE would be the ideal choice if we weren’t holding out hope to last years draft picks. Because those 3 positions are so key to success and we were severely missing it this year. Mays wasn’t bad earlier in the year but he seriously started to slow down towards the end of the year … somewhat like McGahee (even tho he ran hard in the playoffs. U could see the effort).

My mock draft goes Derel Worthy, Doug Martin, and a CB … I like worthy over Cox personally. But both are good. Glad Walter finally came around on Doug Martin. He used to have us taking polk and miller. I think Doug is the best prospect. Good size, speed, durability and can catch. I heard he was impressing at Senior bowl practice. He might shoot up the boards come combine.

    TRB

McShay has us drafting Tannehill at 25… Spluhhh….

  12. Bronco_Turtle says:

in his 2.0 Version… Don’t see the logic in that pick, but he’s a professional and i’m just a Turtle…

  13. baylinorcrush says:

Just the difference between a pro Tebow and a Tebow doubter….

I haven’t fully made up my mind yet.

Tannehill, Foles, those would be the two best options for the Tebow doubters if we can’t put our hands on RG3.

This is not a good idea. the talent pool in the league is diluted enough with 32 teams… I can’t see where adding two more will make things more competitive or exciting…

Move Jax and Minn to LA and call it good enough…

  15. Bronco_Turtle says:

I would like to see Foles in Denver… But I wouldn’t use a top 10 pick on RGIII even if I had two in the first round… But we all have our guys we cheer for, and I know he’s your favorite Bay…

  16. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, by far, but Foles has got the size, the accuracy and he is from Austin so if we do go QB I’d be fine with him too.

  17. strandoftds says:

I`m hoping for a DT or CB with our 1st pick. Since our playoffs run I`ve said DT Dontari Poe in the upcoming draft. It`ll be fun to see it all unfold.

  18. strandoftds says:

When FA starts, it`ll be cool to see what position and players we fill in before the draft, then we can all get a better feel for the contest.

  19. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Agreed Strand! New Blog!

I hope we make a trade before the draft or during to get a guy like Calias Campbell… I’d be ok giving up a 3rd or 4th for this guy…

  20. strandoftds says:

It`s snowing here in Colorado, we`re expecting 5 to 8 ” today. No work for me today since I work outside. We`ve had a very mild winter so far. It`s felt like Fall the last 5 months with no winter, crazy stuff.

  21. MANDIEGO says:

WORTHY with out first pick, and no QB. We have weber and we can find another one off the street if Tebow can’t go.

  22. jsizzla says:

    Jerel Worthy, Lamichael James, cornerback
