San Francisco cut the Broncos’ lead to 24-20 with a field goal on its second possession of the half. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick led the drive with strong running from Anthony Dixon, who carried it twice and picked up gains of 11 and 8 yards.
On third down, linebackers Steven Johnson and Nate Irving stopped Kaepernick on a scramble to force the 49ers to kick a field goal. David Akers converted on the 45-yard try.
