2012 NFL Kickoff Game Scheduled

February 28th, 2012 - 2:16pm by Gray Caldwell

The 2012 season-opening NFL Kickoff game, featuring the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants as host, will be played on Wednesday, September 5.

It’s the first NFL game played on a Wednesday since September 22, 1948, when the Rams and Lions squared off.

The game was scheduled for Wednesday to avoid a conflict with President Barack Obama’s Thursday night speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

NBC will televise the game at 6:30 p.m. MST, and NFL Kickoff 2012 beginning an hour earlier.

I`ll throw in a little monkey wrench here. A good friend of mine is a police officer. We were sitting down one morning at a restuarant shooting the breeze and I asked him his take on Marijuana. He said that he NEVER felt threatened by a pot smoker when pulling them over, and realizing they reak like pot. My buddy was saying that when compensating their stuff, their mellow and laid back, and some saying (Oh, come on dude, don`t take my stash). LOL! On the other hand he said its a way different story with alcohol, and thats all whole nother ball game. He said you already know the story behind that.

Here’s the link TRB on Chris Polk from Seattle Times. He actually lost 9 lbs from 224 lbs for combine.
I know Martin is the favorite for most of us.

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/seahawksblog/2017598170_huskiesrbchrispolktrimsdownforcombine.html

  3. strandoftds says:

I`m still vying for Doug Martin.

  4. alaskanbronco06 says:

I read somewhere i think a post on here saying that Denver wasnt looking at Polk. I like Polk he would be my third option at RB in the 2 or 3 round Behind Martin and James. In the 4th i like Cyrus Gray and Rainey. Both looked really good. Rainey would be a good compliment back for the future behind any of those RBs,

  5. alaskanbronco06 says:

    1 Doug Martin

    2 LaMichael James

    3 Chris Polk

    4 Cyrus Gray

    5 Chris Rainey.

First four good be good starters in the near future and Rainey could be a good backup/3rd down back/ Special teamer

  6. strandoftds says:

The other story in that my ex-wife was a severe alcoholic. Heck, I`d be much more comfortable hang out with a pot smoker than an obnoxious drunk. I`ve learned through experience.

  7. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Haha i learned so much about Martina nd researched so much he feels like Bronco already … no one else will do lol But im open to the likes of James and Rainey … true burners. We will just have to take what the other teams give us. TRB

  8. strandoftds says:

I firmly believe we`ll get a RB with one of our early picks, and hoping its Martin.

  9. strandoftds says:

I can see us going after James, but Martin is my numero uno at RB.

  10. alaskanbronco06 says:

to true 1n0nly. Unless we can make trades our picks are what everyone else gives us.

Strand pot smokers are so relaxed. Id actually agree with you. Pot smokers are easier to deal with Alcoholics or even someone drunk are a pain in the ass. I learned that with my leg.

Its the harder drugs that i have the issue with NOT weed.

Now that the combine is officially over it’s time to lay out the rules for our annual draft competition 2.0-

Beginning Monday April 16th at 1201AM blog time I will start accepting entries and will close entries on Wednesday April 25th at 1159PM blog time.
1st entry counts. So make it count.
Choose the 4 players the Broncos will select with their first four picks. Also include at what number they will be selected. 25, 57, 74 etc…(these will be used for tie breaker scenarios), include the player position (DE, LB, WR) to avoid confusion if there is a player with the same name.
This year, we will include a point system to make things more competitive. I apologize to previous winners UK Broncos and Lonewolf. Let this not diminish your wins…the NFL is an evolving league and with that, so our contest shall be!!!

I will accept 3 names at each pick. With 7 pound going to a correct name at the top of the list. 4 for the second name. And 1 for the 3rd name.

    Example-
    #25-
    Worthy DT
    Hightower LB
    Martin RB

In all, you will have 12 names on your board, each group of 3 will be at the same draft #. No breaking them up. As I will not count that entry. If there are more than 3 in any group, I will accept the first 3 names and drop any additional selections- that will count as your entry.

If anybody knows how I can contact blog administration, I’d like to seek permission to offer a prize to the winner. As I mentioned, it will be a piece of Denver Bronco Memorabillia from my personal collection. However, I don’t want to violate any blog or Denverbroncos.com rules by doing so.

Choose wisely, double check your submission before sending and good luck to everyone who participates!

    Broncos Country Strong 2012!

  12. strandoftds says:

If Poe, Cox, and Brockers are gone and I`d rather get a RB, CB, or MLB at #25. Then we can snag a DT in the 2nd or 3rd round.

  13. royalbroncofan1 says:

Wow – that’s pretty neat strand… you sang in a rock band! You did a good job of avoiding drugs in that environment as most of those guys are pretty hard core. Kudos to you.

  14. alaskanbronco06 says:

If we could pull of the trade with the Eagles ive been talking about we could get a RB DT and CB in round 2.

On the business side of the deal its actually a great deal. Denver gives 25, and 2013 3rd and say the 7th round this year with Knowshow. Eagles give Picks 46 and 51 in round 2 pick 114 in round 4 and 190 in round 6.

Breaking down the trade The 3rd round next year is more for the last two picks 25 and Knowshow are for the two 2nd round picks. and adding a 7th this year picks up any value slack.

The Eagles need a 2nd RB to compliment their starter. They have taken risks on injury prone backs. Plus they will be able to get another need at 25.

Denver should be able to get Martin at 46 and Reyes or Thompson maybe Ta’amu at 51. Then could get a CB at 57. Then with the added fourth we could grab Rainey and a OG. In the 5th Moore and another DB or LB then in the 6th pick up a DE

  15. sndvl says:

I should have double checked my own work-

    7 points, 4 points and 1 point… I will amend that in future posts…lol!!!

If anybody has any questions or needs clarification, don’t hesitate to ask!

  16. royalbroncofan1 says:

Thanks for taking the initiative to run the contest sndvl!! :-)

If Gray is monitoring, he may respond to you.
Don’t have the actual email address for blog admin.

  17. royalbroncofan1 says:

Whenever I see your handle sndvl, it reminds me of the Arizona State Sundevils and for the longest time, I assumed you were from Az…lol!
Of course I know you’re originally from CO and now live in IL.

  18. Bronco_Turtle says:

Ab… you really do sell those madden trades hard!!!

First and Foremost to make a trade with the Eagles they have to covet someone that is on the board that won’t make it to them… Who will they be so eager to get at 25, that they passed with their own pick that they’d give up those picks?

In order for us to get an extra second (#33) STL has to make a trade, giving them 3 of the first 33 picks… That (1) single pick could be obtained in a multitude of ways, and Marting could be brought to Denver…

As I speculated over a week ago on this, I would give them DJ, Williams and a 4th for their second… or Knowsho and a 3rd if I really was going to make this happen from a practical standpoint…

Hightower M&M’S baby with our first 3 picks (Martin RB and Martin DT Mich)….

PUM PUM PUM SUPER MARIO MUST BE A BRONCO!!!!

  19. Bronco_Turtle says:

LOL… rbf.. I think the exact same thing seeing sndvl… Sundevil!!!

    :o

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

    http://www.milehighreport.com/2012/2/28/2832090/the-broncos-have-plenty-to-spend-will-they-spend-it

Ummmm…. So, looks like they HAVE to Sign Super Mario… !!! :o

We all knew we had about 50 mil… but nice to see where it comes from!!!

  21. strandoftds says:

My next in line of DT`s with the 3rd round are Ma`atu or Crick.

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

I dont even play Madden so i dont see how you could say i covet those trades.

From a business end it makes sense. With whats involved. If there was a guy at 25 they wanted it is likely. I took the board part out of effect by talking about the business side of it.

The rams may go for Knowshow but they wont go for Williams. They are set a LBs and look to add depth through the draft. Also a third is a little high with Knowshow. adding a fourth from next year and either a 5th and 7th from this year or both 5ths. When talking trade you have to remember the trades of future picks. Also they may not want a player and may very well ask for 57 and a 4th. The big rules for trading is when trading picks from end to the beginning of a round like 57 to 33 the team with the higher pick will ask for the lower pick and a later round. For example 57 and our 4th.

Also I like the picks we have and would want to give away to much for one pick. My trade with the Eagle son the business side of it helps both teams. They get a player and two/three picks and we get four picks this year. If a OT is there or a DT they like maybe even Floyd or Wright they could go for it. Yes they have Maclin and Jackson. Jackson has been causing them problems and Maclin is having a hard time staying on the field. They may even take a WR with their pick and then we could try to work the trade with them for them to move up and get Keuchly or Hightower. They also have a big need for ILB

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

With that Cap space many fans will be really upset if they dont even try to sign Super Mario.

  24. alaskanbronco06 says:

Also going after Lofton would be nice to see. And Carr. Three big signings for probably a total of 15 mil this year for the three would leave a lot of cap space. Denver also has an advantage with Williams and Carr.

  25. strandoftds says:

Thanks Royal. to me it wasn`t even a struggle, not one iota. When I was a kid, my mother said to me, stay away from drugs, drugs will kill ya. Thats all it took. I never gave it a second thought. As far as my band, all of us were grug free. I guess I`m alot like Ted Nugent, a Rocker through n through and never touched the stuff. I love wild man Ted.

  26. strandoftds says:

This contest will be a blast!

  27. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Thanks for picking up the contest Sndvl.

For those who don’t know it stands for sandoval. (Sundevils is such an awesome team name. The needs to be a MoonGods so they can play each other lol)

Any trade is possible. Things move real quickly in the draft. All speculation anyway … Im sure eagles were just one example of many possible scenarios. As they do have 2 picks … they would be an awesome trading partner.

Id rather not trade DJ or Knowshon but at this point they are all at Foxes Mercy …mainly Moreno not DJ … I see no world where without DJ we are a better team in the immediate future. Just me tho.

    TRB

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

That is really great you were able to stay away from that Strand. Especially in those times.

  29. Bronco_Turtle says:

From a ‘Business standpoint’ AB, How do make that trade even work?!?

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

1in0nly the Alaska MoonGods there we go. Thats a team we need lol saying as winter its always moonlight.

I also dont see DJ going anywhere. I wouldnt mind it though. Also with the Dream teams need they may be willing to trade up to fill there holes. They are a couple players away from being legit contenders. I took that into account when thinking about this trade.

  31. Bronco_Turtle says:

and, how can you say any team with a new Coach is ‘set’ at any position?

Just curious as to how you draw your conclusions AB… I can’t follow your train of thought, and that’s all i’m looking for… Help a Turtle out…

  32. strandoftds says:

Sndvl, I like the contest lineup and rules and I`m all for it. Also thanks for taking the reigns for this since Bays no longer with us. Miss ya Bay, Rock On dude if your scoping from time to time!!

  33. strandoftds says:

And this whole time I thought Sndvl went to Arizona State. LOL!

  34. Bronco_Turtle says:

TRB… I agree that trading DJ would be one step backwards this year, but would give us the ability to take 3 steps forward in other areas…

I understand this is all speculation, and it’s fun, but it’s more fun to come up REALISTIC scenario’s that can be transacted to make our team better and not just fill up our days thinking about things that really have very little to no chance of happening…

  35. alaskanbronco06 says:

Knowshow is valued as a 3rd round pick. then 25 and our 7th plus next years fourth.

    They give up 46, 51, 114, 190.

So their two 2nds value combined is that of a mid 1st. 16-22 give or take. Adding knowshow to that deal gives them the better side. So you add their fourth 114, then we throw in the last two picks our 3rd next year and 7th. and ask for 190. Its a pretty even deal.

Ill break it down differently. 25 is equivalent to 46 and 114 next years third and Knowshow equal to 51 with some extra value from those two portions of the trade. Add in the 190 and our 7th bout puts it about equal. What also goes in our favor is there a few pieces and healthy players away from serious competition. Making that trade gives them options at 15 they can choose someone different if they feel there other guy can fall to 25 or can choose the same or choose a guy they need at 25. They fill a need with Knowshow who will be a backup which is a need for the Eagles. At 15 they could jump on a O-linemen and snag Hightower or a DT at 25. All three are needs not to mention a WR because Jackson causing problems and Maclins health concerns.

  36. Bronco_Turtle says:

    :o

    So to recap…

    Draft

    1. Hightower (25)
    2. Martin (33)
    3. Martin (57)

    Sign

    1. Mario Williams
    2. Calais Campbell
    3. Brandon Carr

Now all you need is a legit number 3 reciever and an Interior OL/ Safety and TE… WTF, how did we the division? ;o)

  37. alaskanbronco06 says:

The Eagles coach is still Andy Reid. He knows what he needs to make his team contenders. It is more realistic than you realize BT. Its an equal trade. Filling a need for the Eagles also giving them options in round one.

Oh you were meaning what i said about the Rams having Fischer. Ok well Fischer is new to the team but not new to the game. He is one of the best underrated coaches in the league. He knows he has a lot of young talent at LB. He knows that they need to address the DBs and Offense.

  38. strandoftds says:

And for instance just as Sndvl stated, there are 3 players that are projected in the first two rounds with the last name Martin, so that can get confusing if you don`t say position and full name. Just to clarify.

  39. Bronco_Turtle says:

So they upgrade with all first round talent, and we scoop 2nd rounders… Sounds kind of like a McD move… We had three number 2′s in ’09… How many of those guys are still on the Roster… (I’ll help you out 0)

  40. alaskanbronco06 says:

I like the look of that BT my thing is though the Rams may ask for 57 to trade up to 33. We and if it didnt we would loose a lot of picks this year. Also i like Ta’amu or Winn better than Martin. but thats my opinion.

  41. strandoftds says:

Turtle, hows it going dude? Did you get everything all settled with your grand parents and scattered buddys. LOL

  42. Bronco_Turtle says:

So one way we get picks 25, 33 and 57

The other way we get 46, 51 and 57

?!?! Hmmm… Giving up less to get more seems prudent… but again… i’m new to football so please help me see how your way helps our team more than staying put and trading for one pick…

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

McD was an idiot. Fox isnt. Also 2009 wasnt deep in talent like this year. With Fox Elway and Xanders they will be able to notice talent in the 2nd round. No matter what you do drafting a player is always a risk. Even at #1. Fox adn his staff will be better able to bring out the talent in their 2nd round picks than McD ever was.

  44. alaskanbronco06 says:

To get 33 we may not have 57. If we do we would loose any combo of our picks. 3 and 4 and 7. or 3 5 5. Thats a lot to get that pick. Giving up 25 allows up to keep 57 and our other picks minus the 7th. Even if they ask for 57 we still get two 2nds and are able to grab a DT and RB with them.

  45. sndvl says:

Haha! Great story behind my username.

It does mean my last name Sandoval without the vowels. However! I created it after visiting a friend at Arizona State. She is the one who pointed out that my name strikes resemblance. But it was soon after the Broncos signed Jake Plummer as a FA. He being I Sun Devil alum…and the BRONCOHOLIC I am…with my last name…it was perfect….

Speaking of Jake the Snake…man. No one could execute the naked boot like that cat…

    Broncos Country Strong 2012!

  46. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Hola Strandsky!

I did finally get that stuff unloaded… Me and my Girlfriend!!! I was impressed, she tries real hard! lol

    How’s your day?

  47. strandoftds says:

I liked Jake as our QB back in the day.

  48. Bronco_Turtle says:

AB… You new nickname is Little McD!!! ;o)
