2011 Training Camp – Day 3: P.M. Blog

July 30th, 2011 - 7:55pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos took the field Saturday night for a one hour and 15 minute walkthrough practice open only to the media. The players split into two groups — first and second team — and ran through various plays, sets and formations for about the first hour of practice. The last 15 minutes focused solely on special teams.

ROLL CALL
Linebacker D.J. Williams participated in the evening walkthrough after sitting out the morning practice. McBean, Woodyard and Prater looked on from the periphery of the drills but aren’t allowed to practice until Aug. 4.

PLAYMAKERS
In a walkthrough session, there often isn’t much to report in terms of notable plays. The team ran through their sets at about 75 percent as the players didn’t wear pads or a helmet. Some players sported Broncos hats or visors.

The last drill was interesting in that around 40 players, mainly those participating on the special teams unit, stood in two lines facing each other practicing blocking punts without taking out the punter. One player would kick their foot up while his partner put his hands in front of him and lightly tapped the top of his foot. The idea is to “block the ball, not the foot.”

QUICK HITS

  • Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway watched the second half of practice on the field with Owner and CEO Pat Bowlen.
  • The team spent 10 minutes towards the end of practice working on field goal protection and blocking schemes. The offensive line participated on the protection unit while most of the defense worked on blocking. During this time, the offense stood on the sideline.
  • Quarterback Tim Tebow threw on a separate practice field with rookie quarterback Adam Weber during the special teams drills. Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy and Quarterbacks Coach Adam Gase worked with them.
  • Wide receiver Mark Dell, an undrafted free agent, spent most of the special teams drills standing on the sideline talking with Wide Receivers Coach Tyke Tolbert.
  • Even though kicker Matt Prater cannot practice yet, he stood behind kicker Steven Hauschka and watched as the team went through protection schemes.
  • Quarterbacks Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn and wide receivers Matthew Willis, Eric Decker and Brandon Lloyd chatted lightheartedly with Head Coach John Fox on the sidelines during the special teams drills.
  • The team will hit the field next on Sunday with only one practice from 2:20-5pm that is open to the public.

Below are a few pictures of players heading out to the field. During afternoon walkthrough sessions, the shooting period is very brief.

Yeah but Delhomme somehow inspired the guys around him although nothing like Tebow, Orton doesn’t inspire the ball boys.

    2. BeastFromEast92 says:

Is it better to keep him here and give him almost 9 million,or cut him and give him 4.4 million,we are not going to the playoffs,Tebow needs real playing time with the starting Offense,if not the other young Offensive players learn while Tebow falls further behind riding the bench,it’s clear cut to me,cut him and get on with it!!!
Face it were not going to get anything outta him but a QQ!!!!!!

    3. O&BinCostaRica says:

The problem with waiting is that for that period of time he won’t be demoted to number 2 because it reduces trade value AND Tebow doesn’t get the 1st team reps he needs.

    4. BeastFromEast92 says:

Plus I don’t want any of Orton’s bad habits rubbing off on Tebow, lol.

    5. sndvl says:

What would really make me happy is if we were able to land LeRon McClain. Or Jason Snelling.

Sorry baylin. That is kinda gross. How about father of the daughter who is still in her prom dress waiting for her date Orton!

    6. strandoftds says:

Jake Delhomme got the Panthers to there only SB, that says alot.

    7. O&BinCostaRica says:

      Denver_Broncos Denver Broncos
Nice 7-on-7 session for Tim Tebow, who completed long TD passes to rookies Julius Thomas and Mark Dell

TEBOW is AWESOME on SUNDAYS (HINT HINT)

    8. strandoftds says:

      Sndvl, thats sick. LOL

    9. TheHorseWhisperer7 says:

I just don’t get why They had Tebow practicing with the second team yesterday, and Orton and Quinn playing with the first. I saw someone say to keep Orton and Tebow seperated, but i don’t believe that for a second.

    10. strandoftds says:

      The prom of Chucky. LOL

    11. TheHorseWhisperer7 says:

Sharing means caring, and caring means sharing. thats what tebow would say. lol

    12. baylinorcrush says:

That trade value for Orton being #1 has been demonstrated as being total hogwash by all the teams that turned down Orton, if that’s all EFX is doing all along it is utterly stupid, always said that and even had a big post about it this morning. If that’s what they are doing they are doing a lot more harm than good, destroying the moral of the team with the QQ and doing absolutely zero, zilch, nada to buil up Orton’s trade value, every one knows exactly what he is worth, and the current take is not much.

    13. TheHorseWhisperer7 says:

All kidding aside, I’d tell Orton were running an all wildcat offense and see if he wants to lower his contract then.

    14. broncosfreak30 says:

HAHAHAHAHAHA, just to make sure everyone saw the spoof that Woodyard did about Dawkins!! Must watch!

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUNAdnhEIBc&feature=fvwrel

    15. TheHorseWhisperer7 says:

We could trade Orton for a washing machine and then we’d have a solid DT, no puns intended ha ha

    16. broncosfreak30 says:

      CostaRica…

Where did you see that about Tebow completing those TD’s?

    17. baylinorcrush says:

I don’t have to watch it that was last year and I don’t like Woodyard and I think they should of part ways with Dawkins and giving him a chance to be reunited with his Eagle team that has a great shot at winning a SB for him, at least better than us, LOL. You must be bored freak.

    18. baylinorcrush says:

They get better news in Costa Rica than here with all those darn American retirees down there….

No never in Costa Rica, but spent a year down in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, back in the mid seventies, Mexico lots of time of course. That’s how come at times you’ll see me using spanish jargon.

    43. strandoftds says:

If Marcus Thomas has a breakout year then the Broncos can give him a long term deal. I believe Thomas has that beast to unleash in him.

    44. Casinoroyal19 says:

Anyone else get the feeling that andrew luck is gonna be our qb next year? I have a feeling that we will be at the very bottom of the nfl this year and luck will just be too tempting for elway to pass up in the draft.
