2011 Training Camp – Day 23: Blog

August 19th, 2011 - 12:49pm by Max Henson

Today marked the last day of training camp as the Broncos were back on the field at Dove Valley to complete a walkthrough session in preparation for tomorrow night’s home exhibition against the Buffalo Bills.

Here are some notes from the session:

  • Unlike previous walkthroughs the players took the field in shells.
  • Safety Brian Dawkins and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd both participated.
  • Broadcaster Verne Lundquist watched practice and spent some time talking with Head Coach John Fox.
  • Music from the team stretch included:

  • “Moment 4 Life” — Nicki Minaj
  • “I Do It” — Big Sean
  • “Good Times Bad Times” — Led Zeppelin
  • The team split up into their respective position groups and worked through drill stations at half-speed.
  • At the start of the session, linebackers and defensive backs worked on backpedaling before hauling in interceptions, the D-line worked on stunts, and the quarterbacks threw with the tight ends and wide receivers.
  • The players then broke into team sessions, with emphasis on clearly communicated substitutions.
  • Quarterback Kyle Orton and wide receiver Eddie Royal worked on deep patterns in between team drills.
  • The Broncos finished the practice with some work in the red zone and special teams drills before coming together for a team huddle.
  • Kickoff for tomorrow’s game is set for 6:35 p.m.

I`m looking forward to the game tonight. And like we are saying, it`s going to be a vanilla game plan. But hey, we`re inching closer to the regular season.

    2. stevecan2 says:

The insanity will never end… Gives me something to look forward to though.

Tebow not starting this year… not going to crush his career. My goodness, people act like this is it. Make or break, do or die, etc. Stop buying into this media crazed BULL puckie (lol).

We can all assume, Orton is gone next year. Leaving Tebow and possibly Quinn. A full off season with a third year QB, a front office going into their second year (first real year) together, the possibilities are astronomical. We know what we have this year, we are going with it. Next year we will have more than enough time and the ESTABLISHED team and Front Office working in harmony will produce on a higher level than we have seen since 2005.

The only person who is on the plank is Quinn. Orton will get a starting job somewhere, Tebow will remain in Denver. This year is what it is. Whether Tebow is second or third, no MATTER what, Tebow is Denver’s future.

    3. stevecan2 says:

Worst case scenario in my mind. We lose Orton to FA, we trade Tebow and possibly a draft pick to swoop up Luck. Quinn stays in Denver as Luck progresses during his rookie season.

BAMN another QQ next year. The fan favorite is always is the second string QB during a struggling season. More Denver specific MO. We were 7-4, we had a QB that had just lead us to the AFC Championship. The problem was, he didn’t play so well. And the fans didn’t like him. We had this stud rookie QB and lo and behold, the rookie gets the nod before he was ready. Missed the playoffs starting a downward spiral that has yet to end.

My point is. If Tebow isn’t ready, then he isn’t ready. That does not mean, he is done. That rookie QB that came in for a 7-4 team, took 4 seasons to get to the playoffs let alone a winning season since High School. And by comparison we all know that rookie QB was a more prototypical NFL QB. Orton is our best at the moment, Quinn is possibly a great stop gap, but Tebow is the future.

    4. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Bay I’m gonna have to disagree with you. I’ve gotten acquainted with the idea that Tebow is not starting this year and I can bear it. But to me there is nothing to that they’re not going with him in the future. The only “evidence” of this is pure speculation on the part of TV analysts. And I don’t really care what Elway was doing out there with Tim, he was still out there with him and I haven’t heard about him working with any of the other QBs. To me it sounds like someone may have taken that interest in Tebow – an interest that for some reason was deemed non existent without any proof whatsoever.

If Tebow gets traded before he gets a shot to get it done on the field, it would be pure heartbreak, but we’ve seen the departure of Cutler, Plummer in my case (not sure how you bloggers felt about him but I loved him – still my favorite after Elway), and of course we dealt with Elway’s inevitable retirement. So if it happens, it happens and I will pray that the organization knows what the hell they’re doing. If it happens because we give Orton a new contract I will know it is because they don’t know what they’re doing and, I will immediately lose faith. The only thing that would change my mind about that is if we win a Super Bowl this year. Making the playoffs wouldn’t be enough to convince me that Orton has the heart of a champion. Without that heart we aren’t ever gonna win the big game. Ask Tom Brady. But in any case we are long overdue for a franchise guy. We have a proud tradition that has been marred with embarrassment recent years. To me Tebow is the epitome of what Bronco football used to be and should be again. He’s tough as they come He’ll do whatever it takes to win and will never say die.

    5. Broncos Born & Raised says:

      Stevencan2,
I was far removed from the rest fans during Plummer’s last season – I was on deployment. But I loved him and didn’t see any reason for people to stop believe in him. It’s a shame if that was the case.

    6. Broncos Born & Raised says:

On a lighter note some tickets to tonight’s game just fell in my lap so I am going to have a blast tonight!

    7. shaztah says:

You know what is funny guys? I saw Brady Quinns tweet today and he quoted a bible verse…How come he doesn’t get flack for his “religion”? Just a TEBOW WANNA BE LOL.

    8. baylinorcrush says:

BB&R, feel free to disagree with me whenever you want but obviously you need to read my comments better:

“Like I said it is obviously not the organization’s main focus to do everything they can to bring in Tebow as soon as they can now”, I don’t see how you deduct from that what you just said “But to me there is nothing to that they’re not going with him in the future.” Unless it’s something else I said…

    9. baylinorcrush says:

Freedom of religion happens to be in the Constitution.

    10. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Sorry Bay I totally misread that sentence. We’re pretty much on the same page then. Which we have been quite a bit this season strangely enough.

    11. Broncos Born & Raised says:

I don’t think Tebow takes that much flack for his religion. At least not from anyone who’s opinion matters. It’s one thing to hold your own beliefs and it is another to savagely attack someone for theirs. So the people who are doing that are pretty much internet imbeciles and the only reason they aren’t all over Quinn is because he doesn’t get nearly as much attention.

    12. baylinorcrush says:

Well, that reason is simple, you were pro McD and I was like his enemy numero uno, or maybe tres along with carnage and sndvl. We were like the three anti McD Musketeers, haha.

    13. baylinorcrush says:

And for over a year we had the courage to stand up to the masses for major abuse like how dear we called ourselves Bronco fans if we hated McD so much! Now that was the good times blogging wise, LOL.

    14. baylinorcrush says:

Funny thing is now everybody hates McD, except for his mother maybe.

    15. henryac says:

Nah, Bay, she doesn’t hate him. She just doesn’t speak to him any more!

    16. killerkod says:

The game will be televised on one of the stations I get…..so happy about that.

Looking forward to watching, critiquing, and discussing the game with you all tomorrow!!

      GO BRONCOS!

    17. WieminCA says:

I don’t think there are any assumptions that can be made regarding personell now or in the future … things just have to play out … what makes me sad is to hear so many write off Orton … seems these people would be devastated if Orton were to succeed – to show “heart” – to lead us to the playoffs and beyond … that’s just a horrible attitude to have … just because they selfishly want another player to be “the guy” … come on – I thought you were BRONCO fans, and whatever helps the TEAM succeed, is for the good …

    18. royalbroncofan1 says:

bay – thanks for the info on the breaksdown of the QQ contracts.

Quinn does seem to have the most incentive.
Not questioning the other two….. just looking at dollars and cents.

21 mil for the trio – Wow!!

    19. BeastFromEast92 says:

3 Pics showing McBean, hope he somehow steps it up!!!!!

    20. stevecan2 says:

I am watching the St. Louis Offense. I still hold it in my heart that McDaniels is going to be a major force to reckon with in he NFL. It is a shame that he cut his teeth in Denver. But so many forget, Billichick was an absolute joke in Cleveland before creating a dynasty in New England. He may be dead to Bronco fans but I still reserve my opinion that he will end up being a great NFL HC. I have not given up on him.

The Plummer benching is when I realized, QB politics in Denver is straight prison yard.

    21. stevecan2 says:

I also heard that Orton initiated the trade talk. What a….. I have competition at QB1? Oh no, its Rex Grossman all over again. He can’t handle it. Face it Kyle, you were dumped for Cutler, but damn Lovie at least was ready to give you a pat on your back. Tebow is just getting guano’d on.
