2011 Training Camp – Day 23: Blog

August 19th, 2011 - 12:49pm by Max Henson

Today marked the last day of training camp as the Broncos were back on the field at Dove Valley to complete a walkthrough session in preparation for tomorrow night’s home exhibition against the Buffalo Bills.

Here are some notes from the session:

  • Unlike previous walkthroughs the players took the field in shells.
  • Safety Brian Dawkins and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd both participated.
  • Broadcaster Verne Lundquist watched practice and spent some time talking with Head Coach John Fox.
  • Music from the team stretch included:

  • “Moment 4 Life” — Nicki Minaj
  • “I Do It” — Big Sean
  • “Good Times Bad Times” — Led Zeppelin
  • The team split up into their respective position groups and worked through drill stations at half-speed.
  • At the start of the session, linebackers and defensive backs worked on backpedaling before hauling in interceptions, the D-line worked on stunts, and the quarterbacks threw with the tight ends and wide receivers.
  • The players then broke into team sessions, with emphasis on clearly communicated substitutions.
  • Quarterback Kyle Orton and wide receiver Eddie Royal worked on deep patterns in between team drills.
  • The Broncos finished the practice with some work in the red zone and special teams drills before coming together for a team huddle.
  • Kickoff for tomorrow’s game is set for 6:35 p.m.

Well with training camp basically over and all practices to be held behind closed door from now on, no sense in paying any more attention to these practice blogs with all due respect to the guys who write them, on with the games!

Question for my fellow Broncos fans: I’m considering buying a jersey, and I want one of the orange ones (current, not throwback). I’ve noticed different orange jerseys; some are a nice, bright, vivid orange, while others seem to be kind of a dull orange. Does anyone know the difference? I know it seems silly, but I kind of don’t like the dull orange.

    3. baylinorcrush says:

Answer: Wait until next year unless you have money to burn, because next year we will go with orange as our regular home color jersey and they will be designed by nike and will look different making the one you are about to buy obsolete. I know that’s not what the organization wants to hear but just trying to help a fellow fan.

    4. drice97 says:

Thanks for the heads-up Bay. While I don’t have ‘money to burn,’ I am rather impatient. I bet the cost of Nike redesigning will probably add $50 to the price :(

    5. killerkod says:

and you might want to hold out if the jersey is gonna have the #15 on it! hahaha

    6. baylinorcrush says:

No, it will be about the same but for the regular like $5 yearly increase, I’m waiting for it myself.

    7. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah if Tebow goes the way of Marshall I think that 15 number should be retired for bad luck, haha.

    8. killerkod says:

lol bay………..I wonder if a team has actually done that before?

    9. baylinorcrush says:

      Our 15 is everybody else’s 13?

    10. brian_schneider says:

I’m telling ya, velcro letters and numbers is the way to go.

    11. mex bronco says:

last year i bought tt replica jersey thinking i’m going to use this jersey for the next 15 years, i’m not really sure right now.

    12. mcmcnees says:

I’ve got 4 authentic Marshall Jerseys. When you’re sitting on your couch, everyone is none the wiser. I’m still pissed at McDaniels… Feels like we’ve been set back a decade. I hope to see the starters do well for that first quarter tomorrow.

    13. brian_schneider says:

Like I have said before I only have the standard home Davis and Elway jerseys. I’d sure love to get an orange one but I think if I did I would get a “personalized” one.

    14. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Looks like their not going to update the depth this week. Ty Warren is still listed on the second team.

    15. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Well its good to know Orton and the starters will play into the 2nd quarter. If those sacks against the bears are telling … Orton might get killed lmao. But our Oline is way better. Looking forward to the game more.

      Later days, TRB –

    16. BeastFromEast92 says:

Too bad if Orton gets hurt,WHAT will we ever do without him?????…….

    17. caramelloo says:

I have a white Dawkins and a blue Tebow. I to will be waiting til next year to get my new jerseys. I’m not messing with anymore current players unless it’s a Bailey jersey. I wanna get an Atwater, Davis, Sharpe, Little, and Rod Smith jersey. After I build my collection with those….. I’m good!!

    18. BeastFromEast92 says:

I bought a bright Orange Tebow jersey, almost 100 bucks, but like I said if they trade Tebow,I’ll piss on it and burn it while I drink a cold beer, lol.

But I’m still hoping Tebow will eventualy become the starter and the jerseys next year aren’t too much different than this years,if they are I will still wear my Orange one I got now!

    19. BeastFromEast92 says:

      melloo,I want a #27 Atwater,and a #92 Doom too!

    20. BeastFromEast92 says:

What if Orton gets a bloody nose or a chipped tooth, and Tebow or Quinn would get the nod to play the 1st half with the #1s….hmmmmmm.

5:00 here time for a beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    21. caramelloo says:

Beast my Atwater and Little will probably be Orange. While my Davis, Sharpe, and Smith will be Blue. I’ll probably add a white Doom and Bailey. Luckily I goy my Dawkins and Tebow for about 60 dollars total. Some deal a Saints fan got on Jerseys if he ordered so many.

    22. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Lmao BFE … u sound like u really want him to get hurt … nothign major … just so that the rest can get a chance with the ones lol. I dunno about a nose bleed or chipped tooth but what is all too often is a jammed figner. I believe one of our QBs had one of those not too long ago, and I think it was in a preseason game … hit his finger on the defenders helmet. Either way … no more wishign ill will on Orton … before the Ortoners blast u BFE lmao. TRB

    23. eternalorangeandblue says:

I still have my home Davis and Elway away jerseys from the super bowl seasons and I will always wear those! even when the numbers and letters are completely worn out.

    24. DenverOranges says:

Trb It was Orton Who hurt his finger in the preseason game against the Bears his first year here….I think it was the Bears game.

    25. seweatherman1 says:

bfe, if you can get with Tebow and ask him to sign that jersey, I would put it away and hold on to it. It will be worth a fortune one day.

    26. Carsonic says:

This is the funniest thread I’ve seen on this blog in a while. BFE, TRB and Bay are on fire!

    27. WieminCA says:

Orton and Tebow will both go down this week, leaving us with Quinn and the rookie from Minnesota – no more QQ … I like Fox – even the interviews seem more relaxed and businesslike … our OL should get a real test this week – seems Buffalo has built their defense first …

    28. broncofan9137 says:

Personally, I’d like to see Adam Weber play just to see what he can do. After all it’s only preseason. They have given Tebow & Quinn a shot so lets see what Weber can do.

    29. caramelloo says:

I’m glad we are finally gonna get back to running the football. Want to see us grind it out. Slowly but surely we will be ok.

    30. stevecan2 says:

With the politics in Denver, I won’t ever buy a QB jersey again. I love the concept of the velcro jerseys, hahaa. I think an improved backing and stitch witch would be a better way to go though.

    31. sndvl says:

It was Orton who dislocated his first knuckle on his index finger on his throwing hand. Against the Bears.
I clearly remember DOOM getting penalized for roughing the passer and some Jaw-Jacking ensued.
Can’t wait for that game in November.

BFE- be careful who you wish harm on. It could backfire. Especially with Tebows style of play. Have a few beers and pray Tebow doesn’t come out of that game as #3 on the depth chart…

    32. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB……a little ding or 2 never hurt anyone, lol.

      GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!
      GO TEBOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    33. BeastFromEast92 says:

It never fails everytime I say something about Orton, here comes sndvl to the rescue,LMAO,I am having a few beers bro!

For the record I never wish to see a player hurt, for any reason, just playing around, probably shouldn’t tho,but hey who believes in superstitions anyway, bay knows a witch doctor,I could have him put a hex on Orton,so he has the twitches when the game starts,oh….he already does, lol.

sndvl..I know You like Orton, just mesin’ with ya bro,you know I am!

    34. BeastFromEast92 says:

sndvl…I would like to ask you one question bro,how do you want the QB scenerio to play out,Orton this year and Tebow next year,or Orton staying around with another contract,or what about Quinn???

      just wondering.

    35. stevecan2 says:

Just finished my Fantasy draft… I got who I wanted at QB that is about it. Mattie ICE. Know his cousin and even though he is NFC, I will always hope for success for him.

QB Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez (to be traded)
RB Arian Foster, Stephen Jackson, Frank Gore, Darren Sproles, Willis McGahee
WR Santonio Holmes, Santana Moss, Mario Manningham, Mike Thomas, and 0.o Brandon Marshall.
      TE Gronkowski
      K Matt Bryant
      Def Baltimore Ravens

I doubt Jackson will be of much for fantasy with that one guy heading the offense, Darren Sproles is on my short list to trade. Sanchez will be traded due to the bye week irregularity, I specifically picked him up due to having 8 weeks to find that must have trade and when some of my leagues QB’s are faltering I can cash in on the GQ poster boy.

Overall I am hoo hum about my draft, nothing like I had sitting on my mocks or even notes, but oh well.

Kyle Orton notes on Fantasy NFL dot com

Orton completed 2-of-6 passes for 37 yards during Thursday’s preseason game against the Cowboys.

Analysis: Orton started the game and was seemingly outplayed by Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn, but he won’t be losing his starting job after a six-pass effort in a preseason game.

      Overall owned 20.5%

Tim Tebow notes on Fantasy NFL dot com

Tebow completed 6-of-7 passes for 91 yards and had two carries for 15 yards Thursday against the Giants.

Analysis: Tebow outplayed starter Kyle Orton, but it likely won’t be enough to supplant him. Brady Quinn, who is seemingly battling Tebow for the backup role, also had a good game, so Tebow will have to keep up the good performances if he wants to stay on the second row of the depth chart.

      Overall owned 38.9%

      Brady Quinn

Quinn has outplayed Tim Tebow during training camp and could win the backup role behind Kyle Orton, ESPN’s John Clayton reports.

Analysis: Clayton acknowledges that Tebow has gotten a lot of publicity about starting, but he’s closer to being the No. 3 quarterback than the starter. Because of Quinn’s solid play during practice and the team’s first preseason game, he could win the backup job.

      Overall owned .1%

    37. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yea never wish ill will … remember when Orton went down and we were stuck with simms? Another point to make about quinns preseason play .. doesn’t always translate to real game. People were high on simms cuz of preseason and its one thing to do well mopping up in preseason. That’s why I still give it to Tebow … we have seen him play well on our team in reg season. But I hope they are all improving … freak injuries happen all da time. Good to know we possibly have 2 people that can step in. If Tebow doesn’t get a chance with the ones … I hope he actually gets a chance to display a Tebow package in da redzone. I gaurantee a TD.

      Later days, TRB Out –

    38. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Also im not watching da game but im monitoring stats but it looks like shanny has remmembered how to run da ball. Dunno if people remember me talking about Roy Helu. Looks like he is beasting. Great size great speed … prototypical one cut back. Wasn’t surprised when shanny took him. Still kinda wish we did. He went in da 4th I believe. Hightower seems to be doing good as well but then again … its colts run D. TRB

    39. broncosfreak30 says:

      Sndvl…

The Bears Broncos game is in December. I know because me and strand will be at the game!!! I hope Miller has about 8-10 sacks by then and gets 4 on Cutler in that game!! I hope we bring a lot of blitz packages on Cutler in that game!!!

    40. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB…Shanny has a great eye for RBs,always has!!!!

    41. sndvl says:

I know you’re just messing around BFE. As am I. I just couldn’t help myself. LMAO

Baylin knows a witch doctor?! WTF?!

It’s a tough call on this QQ. I just want to make it clear that I’m rooting for Tebow to succeed. I just don’t think he’s ready. (I’m not alone in that assessment). Orton has his limitations. He’s hit his “ceiling”. That doesn’t mean he still can’t be successful. Quinn is the enigma here. We all basically wrote him off a la Simms. I am happy to admit, I was wrong. And good for him!!!

This is how I see it Orton starts until we are out of playoff contention. Or he’s hurt.

    42. sndvl says:

Tebow takes the helm next year as long as he progresses this season with no set backs. And Quinns contract is extended here in Denver to provide insurance and competition.
Unless Orton has a pro bowl year and leads us to the playoffs. Playoffs? You wanna talk about playoffs? Are you kidding me?
Then again, if we wind up with a top 5 pick (doubt it) we may have an entirely different QQ scenario.
Then again, what do I know. I just want to enjoy this season and watch how it plays out! That’s the fun of it all. We just don’t know!

    43. sndvl says:

Thanks for the correction freak. I have that game circled as well. My family has season tickets and if I decide to go to a game this year, that shall be the one!

    44. BeastFromEast92 says:

You see we aren’t that much different,we are both rooting for Tebow,I just wanna see him in there now,and you wanna see him in there next year!

As far as Quinn goes we both are dumb*u@#$%ed,LMAO,go sndvl!!!!

Orton leading us to the playoffs,DID YOU SAY PLAYOFFS???LMAO!!!!!!

    45. sndvl says:

Is it me or does McBean look like a beast? I feel somewhat relieved as far as the DT injuries are concerned!

    46. BeastFromEast92 says:

I see us with Orton leading us until we go 3-6 and then Tebow should take his rightful place as the Field General!!!!!
Then we go 8-8 with Tebow at the reigns, that’s right Bay,we go 8-8,that’s my prediction~!!!!!!!!!

8-8 for the Denver Broncos in the 20211 season, that’s my prediction!!!!!

Anyone else ballsy enough to predict our record right now?????????lol.

    47. BeastFromEast92 says:

McBean is at best a backup to me..but I could be wrong..I like Vickerson!

    48. BeastFromEast92 says:

That means Tebow will go 5-2!!!!!!!!!!!!

    49. sndvl says:

I got the results of my Wonderlic Test today. I got offered the job as well! (now I want to measure my vertical and time my 40 lmao)

I wanted to see how I stacked up compared to the football fraternity. So I did a little research.
50 questions 12 minutes. 50 is the highest possible score.

      50= superior intelligence
      21= average intelligence
      Below 14= moron

There has only been one perfect score among NFL players and it comes as no surprise it’s a Harvard Alum by the name of Pat McInally (who?). Another Harvard gent scored a 48 and I know of one Ryan Fitzpatrick! (Benjamin Watson scored a 48 too. He’s the TE who played with Cleveland).

This is an average breakdown by position-

      Offensive tackle – 26
      Center – 25
      Quarterback – 24 (Most teams want at least 21 for a quarterback.)[6]
      Guard – 23
      Tight end – 22
      Safety – 19
      Linebacker – 19
      Cornerback – 18
      Wide receiver – 17
      Fullback – 17
      Halfback – 16

As for some individual scores- I’ll start with our very own Denver Broncos.
      John Elway-30
      Ian Gold-17
      Deltha Oneil-15
      Brian Griese-39. Go figure!
      Mike Anderson-18
      Tim Tebow-22
(Jay Cutler scored a 26. I wonder if he were on Insulin his score would have been higher)

      Other prominent names- Eli Manning,39; Drew Bledsoe,37; Aaron Rodgers,35; Steve Young & Tom Brady, 33; Philip “CryMeA”Rivers,30; Troy Aikman,29; Peyton Manning & Dre Brees, 28; Roethlisberger,25; Favre,22; Marino,16; McNabb,14; Vince Young,6 (he scored a 16 on his second attempt).

      sndvl-29

      GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!

    50. 3rdGeneration says:

My jerseys: white Dumerville, blue DJ Williams, orange Bailey. All replicas but with stitching.
My take on jerseys: Need to buy right after contract extension or signing. I try to buy only 4+ years contract guys and also they must be in good standing, ie. I wouldn’t buy a loose canon like Marshall or a non starter like Tebow. I bought DJ’s before he was started earning punk status with his DUI and seemingly poor dedication to the team. Also, I wouldn’t buy Dawkins because he’s old and came to team old with potential for release after any given season. This is late because this was discussed this AM, but for what it’s worth that’s my opinion.
